Re: Review: Live A Live - A Brilliantly Faithful Remake Of A Unique And Influential JRPG

@Crono1973 I die inside whenever people say they should remake chrono trigger in this style. I'm not really down with thinking every game should be remade to look exactly the same in the current trendy style which is already getting played out.

But yeah I loved it at first, I totally agree with you there. For me it's like the games haven't looked as crisp since octopath though.

I feel like all square games just get freebie points from every outlet. Automatically deduct 1 to 3 points depending on what publication you're reading.

It's a 7 to be fair. The pixel graphics aren't holding up as much as they should be getting crispier so it's really a 6.

Square has their tentacles rooted pretty firmly in the media which is why you have so many articles on this game anyway.

@Enigk hmm... yeah. Basically, like restoring furniture for his resume to get that sorta gig. But the nostalgia grab on a popular Nintendo IP bolsters the talent in a somewhat disingenuous manner.
This person is obviously talented, but what can they build without other properties or uh, rather obvious "influences"?

Even so, you know at the end of the day it's a good piece for the resume and that's what they are going for. They have even acknowledged its a dead end project.

@Rosona There are bonus weapons, those will be available later in the game, they are not exclusive.. Just a Head Start kit... And a digital art book. I don't feel those are worth the extra, but for those that do... it's there.

I grew up with square soft. I haven't been as pleased with their output since the merger. I enjoyed Bravely Default immensely (dumb name and all), but each subsequent entry in the series has had diminishing returns. (The females are the real leads, the "leads" are basically witnesses.)
I did like Octopath Traveler.
Nier: Automata is amazing. That was the first game that compelled me to go out and buy the books, But at its heart that is a Yoko Taro game. He is the only big talent over there I watch. I will buy anything he puts out, but i don't care for the excessive amount of crossover content. And no mobile games.

I'm more curious about JRPG's from other companies these days because I really missed out on those back in the day and in the period I was not gaming. The latest JRPG that gave me an incredible experience look experience and actually moved me emotionally was 13 sentinels, So I'm really interested in vanillaware and Atlus right now.

Square is more so a publisher now than an actual developer, so I pay more attention to who's directing and developing the games. And Yoko Taro is the only one I really favor.
Asano had me, but I REALLY dislike Triangle Strategy, and I was hype. I had to turn off a lot of visual options to even be able to play that. Artdink =/= Acquire.
So, I'm just trying to keep my expectations in check. If I do get something from them it won't be full price.

But hey... Live-A-Live! That WILL be awesome. Takashi Tokita rocks!

  • I don't usually write books, just short stories. Have a great weekend!

@B_BIackNinja_N I love JRPG's. That was pretty much all I used to play until square became a disappointment to me and became SquareEnix. So I didn't game for like 15 to 20 years and recently came back because I have time on my hands again (kinda).

Now it's pretty much JRPG's with metroidvanias. I love the switch because it's indie heavy and a lot of those games give me the same vibe from back in the day that I don't really get at all from Triple A titles anymore.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Re: Square Enix Announces Farm Sim RPG 'Harvestella', Coming To Switch In November

@itslukec worse... Detroit.

I used to love square and grew up squaresoft everything, but I haven't been into them in the past few decades and it's because I feel like all they do is chase everyone else's tails instead of being innovative on their own. IE- Rune Factory is 5 games deep and now SE wants a piece of that pie because I guess they have to have every kind of RPG? They may still be "the" RPG company, but they're not the greatest at anything anymore. They're just sort of mediocre at everything. (Exceptions - Nier/ DQ11)
Then when a game "fails to meet expectations", they blame the developer that they hired.

But yeah I like to cook at home so it would be nice to go out and have my garden full of very fresh produce. I would rather go outside and apply life skills than play a game like this that doesn't offer much of an escape from anything. It's just mindless tedium. This basically looks like mobile trash that they're going to put on switch.

Re: NieR: Automata Confirmed For Switch, Coming This October

I mean this is a cool announcement, but why even watch these events if everything was leaked beforehand? I know they put care and effort into these exhibitions to try to give something to the fans but Why even bother thanks to leaks? There were 0 surprises in this showcase. I can see why it was so "mini"mal.

I own multiple consoles. This did nothing for me, especially since everything leaked before hand and every FB site updated w the announcements. It was pointless. Do we really want to send a message that they don't even need to bother with this anymore because I feel like we are.
