If the multiplayer, both local communication and online, wasn't a mess then I would agree with you. As it stands now, it has some solid single player content for sure but local communication and online mulitplayer might as well not exist. I was disappointed when I came across the constant rubberbanding AI and the major lag online when I bought the game. In fact, I bought it just so I could play together with some friends online so you can imagine how letdown I felt. I was very disappointed when I found out that the folks at Shin'en with their technical prowess didn't address either of these issues with this update. Out of all the games I've bought for my Switch, Fast RMX is the one I regret buying the most. @justin233 Unfortunately not. And since Shin'en have refused to answer people's concerns on Twitter before and after this update was released, I'm certain the AI behaviour won't change in the future.
@victimOfNirvana You mean this article? http://nintendotoday.com/nintendo-switch-ram-specs/ Yes, that was the initial source (before the console was released). And while Samsung did take that information down, there was no solid confirmation since the console wasn't out yet. Once the console was released and people started cracking it open, the info in that article was confirmed to be true. Look up any teardown video of the Switch where they crack open the silver part of the front of the motherboard and you can see there are two 2 GB RAM modules next to the NVIDIA GPU. And they are the exact same as the ones in the article you refer to - two 2 GB LPDDR4 RAM modules. Not only that, but all the specs at the end of that article match up as well (ARM CPU, NVIDIA Maxwell GPU, etc). I'll use Ben Heck's video as an example.... https://youtu.be/hpSPyW5v8r0?t=16m2s And here's iFixit's teardown as well.... https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nintendo+Switch+Teardown/78263 So yes, while there's no confirmation from the big N themselves on their website or in a statement there are several people who have teared down their Switches and found the same two 2 GB LPDDR4 RAM modules next to the same NVIDIA GPU on the same motherboard in the same place inside. Is that enough evidence for you? Or does it need to on some tertiary source like Wikipedia?
@victimOfNirvana If you're a developer who says they don't like X system because it's underpowered and then proceeds to try and back that up by talking about how it has such little RAM and gets the size wrong, then they do deserve backlash for getting their facts wrong. Nintendo did actually confirm months ago that the Switch has 4 GB of RAM. And as I've just proved, it's not just one distasteful comment about one of the most influential figures in the industry that's wrong with what this dev said regarding Nintendo during his time on the show.
@impurekind Spot on.... in terms of getting his facts and wording wrong. He seriously believed the Switch has less than 2 GB of RAM (when it's actually 4 GB) when this was recorded.
Like @Grandpa_Pixel said in his first comment, I lost my respect pretty fast when when listening to his opinions regarding Nintendo in this talk show. He's acting like it's their fault for his port of a game well over ten years old not selling well on a system that is now widely regarded as Nintendo's Dreamcast in the last year of it's lifespan. And saying the company's lack of "thinking" killed their president was an incredibly insolent comment.
I wouldn't be surprised if he makes a decision to release a game for the Switch after all this backlash and then complain about how it was * insert generic excuse * here.
** Finds out Starfox 2 will be exclusive to the SNES classic edition *
Congrats Nintendo, you just gave scalpers a reason to scalp this. Unless you produce more than a few dozen of them? Who am I kidding? It's Nintendo. I can't wait to be in work when it goes up for pre order and sells out within seconds.
All the salt from Wii U owners in this comment section.... my goodness!
I've said it multiple times with USF2 and I'll say it again - if you don't like any product that a company puts out, vote with your wallets by not buying it or waiting until it falls to a price you consider suitable for the product.
Whether you like it or not though, this version will sell more than the Wii U version. Why? Because the majority of people don't know/didn't own the Wii U and the Switch will have a larger install base than the Wii U.
I am sick and tired of, without mentioning usernames, certain Wii U owners who bought games that are getting ported to the Switch saying that no one wanted a Switch port/this port shouldn't exist. It just goes to show how selfish some gamers in this fanbase are. I didn't hear PS3 owners complain when TLOU remastered got announced or Xbox 360 owners complain when it was announced Xbox One was backwards compatible with games they owned.
@Discostew "Vgchartz" Oh yes, I am laughing. For those of you that don't know, this is a website that reports the Sega Mega Drive sold 29 million units worldwide but in reality it's actually 40 million. That's how reliable they are when it comes to sales statistics. "And why would folks buy on Switch if they bought the 1st collection on 3DS?" Because, regardless of portability and new content, quite a few don't like double dipping for games they already own no matter what kind of content is added. Especially Capcom games. I mean, have you seen the reaction from people here regarding USF2? Why don't you ask them why they're not double dipping? It's because they own multiple versions of the game and I don't blame them for not buying it/waiting for a price drop.
@Discostew
"You're making no sense with bringing up SFV with a different context"
My point was that it sounded like you were saying a sequel to a game/compilation can't be released on a platform that didn't receive the first game/compilation.
"As it is, the first Legacy collection sold the best on.....you guessed it, a Nintendo platform."
Can you give me a source for that?
And if it did, then why are Capcom ignoring the consumerbase (Nintendo console owners) that bought the first compilation the most? All the 3DS owners who bought the first compilation who now own a Switch would not buy a big compilation with OVER 50% of the games being ones they already own ON THE FIRST COMPILATION. And with a bigger price tag than just Legacy Collection 2 on its own.
@Discostew Regarding comment #83.... I'm sorry, no.
Put it this way, would people be defending Capcom if (in a parallel universe in which USF2 doesn't exist) they announced that Street Fighter V wasn't coming to the Switch by saying "it makes sense, the Switch doesn't have Street Fighter 2, Third Strike or IV"? No, of course not. Why should it be any different here?
The first legacy collection was released on PC, a Sony Platform, a Microsoft platform and a Nintendo platform. This legacy collection will only be releasing on PC, a Sony Platform and a Microsoft platform. And they've done this exact approach with the Disney Afternoon Collection as well. You declaring that Capcom will release a "Ultimate Legacy Collection" for the Switch reminds me of the naive people years ago who thought the Wii U would get the GOTY version of big third party games when they weren't announced for the Wii U alongside other versions when revealed.
@JaxonH
Preach. If you don't approve of Capcom porting these compilations to the platform it is most convenient for you to play on, don't buy the game on another platform. If you're not going to enjoy the games as much as on your Switch, why bother?
You know what? Hats off to them for making me smile a few times in that teaser. Even though I really despise how Ubisoft handled third party support on Wii U and how they don't try to shake things up enough in sequels to their IPs, this teaser had charm and that Aisha joke made me laugh (I'll also take that as a hint she won't be hosting it this year). And that caught me off guard because of how soulless their recent games feel, so hopefully this is a sign they're actually going to innovate when it comes to making more sequels. I can't wait to see how they will handle the reveal of the Mario x Rabbids game. I fear that it will be full of memes and the gameplay won't be interesting in the slightlest but who knows? Maybe Ubisoft have changed their ways and this trailer is the start of a clean slate.
Oh no! More people in Japan bought USF2 in launch week of all weeks than a game like Breath of the Wild which they already own? How dare they buy what I consider to be an overpriced game meaning you shouldn't buy and enjoy it! I hope you're looking forward to MH XX Switch and future game having microtransactions and less content in them now because you bought this one game. /s
@Henmii Because to a general consumer (i.e. someone who doesn't follow anything Nintendo related in any capacity), they think these are new games. They either don't know what a Wii U is or they thought it was an add-on for the Wii. That's how bad the marketing for it was. But I guess the "general consumer" in your opinion is anyone who didn't blindly buy all the games on the Wii U? I do know some Wii U owners who chose to get Mario Kart 8 on the Switch instead of the Wii U, so I guess they're dogs who are lapping it up for buying the up to date version over the old version?
Surprise surprise, more "it's another cash grab port" comments as others have pointed out. I'm sure many who keep saying this for every port that gets announced are either people who owned said game on another system or who aren't getting a Switch just yet. Why can't people who didn't even know what a Wii U was/have my play these games before get to experience the definitive versions and on the go? Seriously, watch all the people who enjoyed Pokken when it first came out last year commenting that the game was boring and say the port, if it does happen, won't have enough content to justify the price tag. Just watch.
I remember the many people commenting how this was a rip off and it would bomb. Well, looks like it didn't and there are actually people out there who wanted this. I didn't expect it to make the top ten, but granted this is a nation where a GTA V next-gen remaster and the current FIFA game can consistently get into the top five. And Disagea 5 Complete's placement? That's such a shame. 1-2 Switch sold more than that game this week, let that sink in.
@ThomasBW84 "Capcom churns our remixes / remasters to fill gaps ahead of 'main' series entries" Thank you! I've been waiting for someone to say this. It was funny witnessing many people jump the gun the other day and saying Capcom was the worst company in the world because of a certain article on here before it got amended. All their doing is trying to see which genre on the Switch sells the best for them by releasing games (such as USF2 and now MHXX) and working around that. Basically, if MHXX sells well expect a MH 5 on Switch. If USF2 sells well expect either SF V or the next Street Fighter on the Switch.
@Damo "How does that headline suggest that they will cut support?" Because you say "Capcom's Future Output For Switch", as in all Switch games coming out in the future from Capcom or whether they make any more games for the Switch period, "Depends On Ultra Street Fighter II Sales". But in the interview, the COO talks about future support and he never mentions sales. He implies that they will look at how well gamers receive it so your observations in your last quote are correct and I agree with them but the title implies everything Capcom does on the Switch will be decided by the sales of this one game.
The way @Damo has worded the title makes it seems like Capcom's president says if USFII doesn't sell then they'll cut third party support for the Switch. Whereas like @TruenoGT pointed out, he's actually saying Capcom will take a Ubisoft approach (release a few games targeted at different demographics and audiences, see what sells well). That is much better than no third party support but it's worrying since we all know what Ubisoft said/did with regards to the Wii U in 2014 after taking the same approach and declaring their conclusions when all they did for their mature titles was port the last gen versions and stick a map on the GamePad screen. So it looks like both Capcom and Ubisoft will be doing this strategy for their Switch third party support. But I'll stand by what I said in the USFII review comments section- vote with your wallets. If you don't like a game either company has to offer for whatever reason (lack of content you like, cutting a feature that's in other versions of a game because "it wasn't powerful enough"/"we'll patch it in later" etc), wait until there's enough of a reduction in price or until the content you want gets patched in so you can justify the purchase or don't buy it. It's a shame because owners of other consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One don't have to go through this kind of thing to get decent third party support. :/
@BionicDodo "Someone who has never played SFII before will likely feel like they haven't got an awful lot for their money" That sounds like someone who has never played a 2D fighting game from the nineties/a new fighting game IP. You can tell who they are because they've complained about how bare the Pokken and ARMS rosters are. The smaller the roster, the easier balancing is which is why developers of a new fighting game IP have to tread lightly, otherwise there could be two or three characters that are vastly superior compared to the rest of the cast of twenty or so fighters. And by the time they nerf them in an update in order to bring more balance, the damage would already be done because people who don't follow the news for the game would still think said game is flawed . And when remaking a fighting game such as SFII, if it ain't broke don't fix it. It's as simple as that. At its core this is supposed to be an update to Turbo, as @Fuz rightly pointed out, which is generally considered to be the most balanced iteration and was highly recommended by pro players. So in this case, complaining about the old bonus stages is like complaining about no battle frontier in the generation three Pokémon remakes when they were based on the Ruby and Sapphire versions and not Emerald. At the end of the day, if the content and lack of old bonus stages doesn't justify the price just wait for a price drop or don't buy it at all. It really is that easy instead of telling newcomers to go and buy an earlier iteration and saying this version is terrible because of price alone. I'm shocked by the number of people in the comments saying this version isn't worth it just because of the price and Street Fighter V should be on the Switch instead. Do you know how barebones and lacklustre SFV feels with no arcade mode and microtransactions? But hey, if you guys want that game then simply don't buy USFII and drop Capcom a line asking for SFV. It's the power of voting with your wallet and it has been proven to work.
@BionicDodo I forgot to mention that it seems our fanboy logic doesn't apply to first party titles.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a definitive version of Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U. It has all the DLC from the last version, new features/modes (albeit not ones that make you want to rush out and buy it immediately), slightly improved graphics and has an online mode that is more populated than the last version since it's the most recent one. It was £49.99 at launch on Nintendo UK's store.
USFII: The Final Challengers is currently the definitive version of Street Fighter 2. It has the majority/all of content from the last version AFAIK, new features/modes (albeit not ones that make you want to rush out and buy it immediately), an option for slightly improved graphics and has an online mode that is more populated than the last version since it's the most recent one. It is available to pre order for £34.99 on Nintendo UK's store.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is given a 10/10 by this website. Many Nintendo websites agree with this saying it is a solid game while other reviewers dock it a few points for being a definitive version.
USFII: The Final Challengers will most likely be given a 5/10 or 6/10 by this website. From what I've seen it's the opposite of above - many Nintendo websites agree aging this is Capcom being soulless and selling us another rehash (also hints at how they would have preferred SFV instead) while other reviewers are reviewing the game and not taking into account that this is the nth iteration of SF2.
As usual though, gamers in general are divided over whether MK8D and USFII: The Final Challengers should exist or not.
It's funny how different fanbases react to remasters/definitive editions of an already existing game. Sony and Microsoft fans generally praise games like the Master Chief Collection and The Last of Us: Remastered. They don't really let the pricing or the fact that it's an updated version affect their viewpoint of the game. But us Nintendo fans, as @Damo has proved, will tend to judge a remaster based on price first and then any new content and featured that have been added to the experience. At least that's the vibe I'm getting from this review in progress. What I feel many don't consider is that, believe it or not, there are gamers who have never owned or even played Street Fighter 2. I myself have only played it once but I have never owned it, hence why I'm buying this version. Friends of mine are in the same position as me (played it a few times at an arcade/someone else's place, don't own the game and will be buying this version). It's also funny how whenever a game like the Azure Striker collection (or whatever its proper name is), we tend to beg for a physical version even if it the game only lasts for a few hours and doesn't have much replayability cough Wonder Boy 3 remake cough. With this game, Capcom create a physical version of a game with an arcade mode and online multiplayer but it's passed off as a budget title that should have been download only and not worth your time. TL;DR I feel it should be made clear that this is the version to buy if you have never owned Street Fighter 2 before and if you already own another version and don't like what this one has to offer, simply wait for a price drop. P.S. It's good to be back making essay comments like this, I've missed you guys.
Just want to say thank you Nintendo Life for opening my eyes (no reference intended). My social media blackout started last night and I was planning to start my Internet blackout on February 17th, but now you've convinced me to start it tonight. You could have easily put "Aonuma gives an idea of Breath of the Wild's timeline placement: Spoilers within! or something like that as the title, but of course that wouldn't get you clicks so you just put the spoiler in the title instead. At least it wasn't a major one, but it's still wrong in my opinion. Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys Breath of the Wild when it launches and I bid good luck to anyone else trying to avoid spoilers.
Well looks like the Writer & Comms Director of the game says otherwise....
You know what they say, a picture paints a thousand words. The "technical challenges/difficulties" reason is just pure PR that anyone who didn't pledge for the Wii U version/who did pledge for a Wii U version but they're buying a Switch day one would gladly accept.
TL:DR It's damage control and the cancellation was a secret they've kept under the rug for months most likely.
@rjejr Response to #102, those are exactly my thoughts. It's so obvious to me why they removed the GamePad map from Zelda (Breath of the Wild) U now. Why? Because the Nintendo Switch tablet (the tablet is the Switch console) MUST be placed in the dock to play on a TV. It's in plain site 3 times in the reveal. You know what this means? No GamePad like features. When they killed the Wii U, they killed that concept as well. Aonuma was making up excuses all along because he knew the Switch version would seem like the lesser version as it would have no map on a second screen since the console/tablet MUST be docked when playing yet the Wii U would. How does he fix this? By gimping the Wii U version and removing the GamePad map from it. And just like that, the Switch version is now more appealing because it's on a new console. People will automatically think that the Switch version is better than the Wii U version because it's a new console and since the Wii U version lost it's main gimmick, they will get the Switch version. Simple as that. I can't believe how many people here and online have missed that crucial piece of information about the Switch - it MUST be in the dock to play it on your TV. Therefore, there is no second screen and there will be no touch screen capabilities. And if there are touch screen capabilities, a lot of people who are primarily home console gamers will not buy this. Why? Because they won't be able to use them features most of the time. And while I didn't buy a Wii U for Breath of the Wild (got it back in Christmas 2013), when I saw its reveal I was glad I was a Wii U owner. Now I'm quite the opposite and like you, I can't get over their betrayal of the system and it's owners. I imagine many Wii U owners like you and I won't be picking up the Switch for a very long time. At the end of the day, I know it's a business focused decision on their part (completely dropping/killing their old home console and making the new one seem light years better) but it will cost them in the future. Before I finally stop talking and finish my massive comment, can I also say that I don't like the look of the new Splatoon? Take away the super jumping (possibly), the live feed of your map on a second screen (remember, no second screen people) and the motion controls (I highly doubt there will be gyro in a pro controller like some speculate) and what do you have? An almost soulless and run of the mill yet colourful shooter with one original idea - the cover system. And Nintendo presenting the idea of Splatoon becoming a major eSport like StarCraft or League of Legends as well.... I don't know, it all just rubbed me the wrong way. It's probably the idea of the Wii U losing all its exclusives and in the process losing all of its meaning. @dres If the 3 hour battery life rumour is true, the system is underpowered compared to current generation systems and it has a touchscreen but you can't use it unless it's out of the dock then I'm sorry but it's clearly not for everyone.
I'm definitely getting this. Good thing I held back from buying the first game digitally; as amazing as I heard it was.
Here's hoping it doesn't have a large release gap like many recent 3DS have had....* Cough * Fire Emblem Fates, Yo-Kai Watch and
Dragon Ball Fusions * Cough *
@Rocossa Is.... Is that real?
Please don't tell me that's real. If it really is what you say, you should have linked it to Imgur instead of embedding the image.
"Better late than never"
I'm tired of people thinking it's OK for Europe releases to be delayed. Let's face it, 2015 has been absolutely terrible when it comes to the "localisation" of 3DS games in Europe.
America got Fire Emblem Fates in February. Europe? We had to wait for 3 months.
America and the rest of the world are getting Pokémon Sun and Moon on November 18th. Europe? The big N apparently need more time on "localising" the games so we have to wait five more days. Keep in mind as well millions of 3DS owners across the globe (except for Europe) will be playing S&M from the 18th, so we'll either have to watch everyone else have fun or stay away from the entirety of the Internet for almost a week.
And this news is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Seriously, why does the UK have to play a waiting game for a matter of days/weeks/months because of the rest of Europe? Most Europeans will straight up say that they play the game in English anyway because the translations are meh, so why bother with the meh localisations?
@Grumblevolcano Oh come on, Nintendo aren't going to announce their show floor games less than a week before it starts.
Infinite Warfare and 4: Modern Warfare Remastered were cutting it close I'll admit, but they were announced to make an appearance on show floor over a week before EGX kicks off. Name me some games that have been revealed to be on show floor less than a week before EGX has kicked off.
I too have a massive backlog to get through; albeit one with a variety of games so at least I won't get bored ploughing through it. I imagine that Breath of the Wild will be dedicated to a variety of gamers with different playstyles à la (I dare say) Skyrim - you can do all the sidequests you want, explore as much of the land as you want or just focus on the main quest. I feel that with some games of the same genre though, such as Xenoblade Chronicles X, you can't have the best of both worlds/appeal to both casual and hardcore gamers at the same time so it is hard to find the right balance with a few games. Hopefully, Nintendo nails it with Breath of the Wild. @Grumblevolcano https://www.egx.net/egx/2016/show-floor See any Nintendo games or Breath of the Wild there? Sad, I know.
@fchinaski You seem like the right person to answer this question. As someone who wants to get into the Dragon Quest series, should I get this one or wait for VIII? I've heard VIII is more newcomer friendly so I'm wondering if I should hold off or not. I've got a lot in my backlog as it is right now, but it'll be nice to break it up with an RPG such as Dragon Quest.
@rjejr That is very plausible. They probably considered at one point pushing the Wii U for Christmas but realised the NES Mini would be easy to market and make a profit from in comparison. Same with the 3DS. It's a much easier system to sell than the Wii U, that's for sure. I never thought about manufacturing contracts, but now that I think about it that way it makes sense if they have a contract like you described (100,000 each month for the next 3 months). And hey, no worries. I enjoy reading your comments no matter how long they are.
More like the fate of the Wii U has been decided - its life support was turned off two days ago and it's dead .
It's clear that the 3DS will be Nintendo's main source of income now after this Direct. What's also clear is that they don't want any more people buying a Wii U. @rjejr , you brought up a good point yesterday (Or was it the day before? Can't remember). They probably have around 800,000 units left and don't want to increase its popularity because they've probably ceased their production to make way for the NX. It's sad to see it go though.
@WiltonRoots I wasn't here last year (accurately, I wasn't active last year). But I would have said "The Wii U is still putting up a fight! We've got Super Mario Maker coming out this month, StarFox Zero and Zelda U are coming next year!". Now I can safely declare the Wii U is dead. Whatever hope I had for it was gone after this Direct. Like I said in my initial comment, it is indeed the right business strategy - focus on making money by investing more resources into the 3DS. But did they have to stab Wii U owners in the back once again in doing so? No, they didn't. I wouldn't be surprised if they alienate Wii U owners even more if Aonuma announced tomorrow the Wii U version of Breath of the Wild is cancelled. Seriously, they may have 3DS owners on their side but I highly doubt the same could be said about Wii U owners.
@BensonUii It's insult to injury. First of all, Super Mario Maker is no longer a Wii U seller/exclusive. Second of all, like @eltomo rightfully pointed out, Nintendo could easily go down the Hyrule Warriors Legends path and introduce new features exclusive to the 3DS version which Wii U fans were requesting for the longest time.
"Hey Bob, how do we save the Wii U?" "What if we port over its killer app to the 3DS, which has a much bigger player base, and make tons of cash while we leave it to die?" "That's a genius idea, Bob! Think we can do this with Wooly World as well?" "I don't see why not." It's a clever plan from Nintendo. They're trying to cut their losses. But I'm afraid they just killed the Wii U off folks. Anyone who owns a 3DS has no reason to go out and buy a Wii U now. What's worse is that Nintendo have biting the hands that feed them (Wii U owners) since last year. This is the final bite, and oh boy it's a big one. Two of the Wii U's finest exclusives gone just like that. I feel sorry for everyone who recently purchased a Wii U. I truly am sorry.
Here's the thing: this is a worse situation than Codename STEAM when you look at it in a different perspective.
Think about it. Codename STEAM was a new IP, it got hardly any advertising and received middling reviews. Surprise, surprise! It sold less than 2,000 copies in Japan in its release week.
Federation Force is a spinoff of a franchise which has been around for 30 years (I still feel that the Metroid Prime name was tagged onto it to sell more copies to this day). It is part of an established IP, it's had lots of coverage and received middling reviews. Federation Force was outsold in its release week and denied a place in the top 20 by a game (Splatoon) which is part of a new IP, released on a dying system and over a year old.
Really makes you think....
As much as I want to get this game on launch, one thing is stopping me - the price.
I feel that £24.99 for a digital version (the only one coming to the West) is just too much. Just like Zero Time Dilemma, I'll wait for a sale before contemplating buying it.
Meanwhile in the UK, still no Pokémon GO! ARGH!
Hopefully, we'll get it today.
Also, inb4 you know who complains about the abundance of Pokémon articles again.
@FreakFerrett "But they are a company that must make a profit for their shareholders on a yearly basis"
Exactly. You know a company is soulless when they're pumping out yearly releases just to make a profit to appease their investors and if a new game part of an IP/genre of games on a certain platform fails to make a massive profit, they'll drop it/stop porting games of that genre to that system instead of looking at what went wrong and how to improve on it.
Do you think Nintendo stopped developing entries in the Super Mario Bros franchise when they saw that Super Mario Bros USA and The Lost Levels combined only sold around a quarter of what the original game sold?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Came here to say something along those lines. You pretty much summed up everything I hated about Ubisoft's "support" on Wii U. Their ports were half a- I mean, didn't use any of the potential the GamePad had and were uninnovative delayed cash grabs. Watch_Dogs U was a perfect example of this. Tons of people were hyped when it was announced for the system and, like me, expected Ubisoft to capitalise on its main gimmick by putting hacking features on the GamePad for seamless gameplay. But Ubisoft, wanting to punish Wii U gamers who didn't buy their inferior ports, decided to remove a bunch of features and add in the standard "off-screen play and active map on GamePad screen" schtick that most Wii U games of W_D's genre have. Also, it was delayed. So by the time it came out 6 months after it was release on every other platform, people knew it was overhyped to immense levels and not worth full price. It's like they didn't want to make a superior version on the Wii U and instead wanted it to fail to prove Mr. Guillemot's statement about Wii U gamers.
Just downloaded it while I was out on the road with the small bit of wifi I could find. Can't wait to play it, @ImDiggerDan . Hopefully, Nintendo will realise you can't copyright "gameplay elements". If they're taking this seriously, I expect games like Cube Life: Island Survival and UCraft to be taken down after Mojang say they both copy the crafting system of Minecraft (which is of course a copyrighted gameplay element /s).
Regarding comment #116, well said @Yorumi . When a game is localised, it is translated and "adapted" for a different audience/region. This means if something that is considered sensitive to Western audiences is removed from the game during said localisation, it is censored. Censorship is censorship. Nothing will change that. But what I don't understand is why they aged the protagonists up to 18 years old and then censored the fan service side of the game. When you have a niche audience which likes this fan service and the characters are aged to the point that the fan service isn't considered sensitive or controversial anymore, then why censor the fan service? It just boggles my mind. And after seeing this tweet from an Atlus PR Manager 2 months ago, I'd like to believe that while Atlus was in charge of localisation Nintendo was censoring the game.... http://archive.is/peu33 I'll leave it at that. If you've read some or all of this, I thank you for your time.
I'm happy to hear that it's a fun and solid game. However because I'm still playing through Fire Emblem Fates at the moment (over halfway through Conquest, still have Birthright and Revelation to play), a massive backlog to clear out this summer and the letter beginning with "c" I'll be waiting for a price drop or sale.
@Ezzzy The thing is that Wind Waker was released 16 years after the series had begun and fans had plenty of main series releases to play two years before its launch (Majora's Mask and the Oracle games). That was a good time for a change. This year is Metroid's 30 anniversary. In other words, it's been 30 years since it first started and there have been plenty of chances for a change in tone. The last main series release was 2010 and the last spinoff series release was over 10 years ago. See the difference?

Re: Reminder: FAST RMX is Bigger Than Ever and Is Still an eShop Gem
Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch
@victimOfNirvana You mean this article?
http://nintendotoday.com/nintendo-switch-ram-specs/
Yes, that was the initial source (before the console was released).
I'll use Ben Heck's video as an example....
https://youtu.be/hpSPyW5v8r0?t=16m2s
And here's iFixit's teardown as well....
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nintendo+Switch+Teardown/78263
So yes, while there's no confirmation from the big N themselves on their website or in a statement there are several people who have teared down their Switches and found the same two 2 GB LPDDR4 RAM modules next to the same NVIDIA GPU on the same motherboard in the same place inside. Is that enough evidence for you? Or does it need to on some tertiary source like Wikipedia?
Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch
@victimOfNirvana If you're a developer who says they don't like X system because it's underpowered and then proceeds to try and back that up by talking about how it has such little RAM and gets the size wrong, then they do deserve backlash for getting their facts wrong. Nintendo did actually confirm months ago that the Switch has 4 GB of RAM.
And as I've just proved, it's not just one distasteful comment about one of the most influential figures in the industry that's wrong with what this dev said regarding Nintendo during his time on the show.
Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch
Re: Nintendo Announces Super NES Classic Edition

** Finds out Starfox 2 will be exclusive to the SNES classic edition *
Congrats Nintendo, you just gave scalpers a reason to scalp this. Unless you produce more than a few dozen of them? Who am I kidding? It's Nintendo. I can't wait to be in work when it goes up for pre order and sells out within seconds.
Re: Pokkén Tournament DX Confirmed For Nintendo Switch
Re: Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 is Announced, But is Skipping Nintendo Switch and 3DS
@Discostew "Vgchartz"
Oh yes, I am laughing. For those of you that don't know, this is a website that reports the Sega Mega Drive sold 29 million units worldwide but in reality it's actually 40 million. That's how reliable they are when it comes to sales statistics.
"And why would folks buy on Switch if they bought the 1st collection on 3DS?"
Because, regardless of portability and new content, quite a few don't like double dipping for games they already own no matter what kind of content is added. Especially Capcom games.
I mean, have you seen the reaction from people here regarding USF2? Why don't you ask them why they're not double dipping? It's because they own multiple versions of the game and I don't blame them for not buying it/waiting for a price drop.
Re: Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 is Announced, But is Skipping Nintendo Switch and 3DS
@Discostew
Re: Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 is Announced, But is Skipping Nintendo Switch and 3DS
@Discostew Regarding comment #83.... I'm sorry, no.
@JaxonH
Preach. If you don't approve of Capcom porting these compilations to the platform it is most convenient for you to play on, don't buy the game on another platform. If you're not going to enjoy the games as much as on your Switch, why bother?
Re: Video: Ubisoft Unleashes Its E3 Teaser Trailer
Re: Ultra Street Fighter II Debuts at Third in Japanese Charts as Switch Leads Hardware
Re: Rumour: Japanese Retailer References Pokkén Tournament in Switch Arcade Stick Listing
Re: Rumour: Japanese Retailer References Pokkén Tournament in Switch Arcade Stick Listing
Just watch.
Re: Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers Scraps Its Way Into UK Top 10
Re: Capcom Unleashes Debut Trailer and Details on Monster Hunter XX for Nintendo Switch
@ThomasBW84 "Capcom churns our remixes / remasters to fill gaps ahead of 'main' series entries"
Thank you!
Re: Capcom's Future Output For Switch Depends On Ultra Street Fighter II Sales, States COO
@Damo "How does that headline suggest that they will cut support?"
Because you say "Capcom's Future Output For Switch", as in all Switch games coming out in the future from Capcom or whether they make any more games for the Switch period, "Depends On Ultra Street Fighter II Sales". But in the interview, the COO talks about future support and he never mentions sales. He implies that they will look at how well gamers receive it so your observations in your last quote are correct and I agree with them but the title implies everything Capcom does on the Switch will be decided by the sales of this one game.
Re: Capcom's Future Output For Switch Depends On Ultra Street Fighter II Sales, States COO
Re: Review: Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers (Switch)
@BionicDodo "Someone who has never played SFII before will likely feel like they haven't got an awful lot for their money"
That sounds like someone who has never played a 2D fighting game from the nineties/a new fighting game IP.
Re: Review: Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers (Switch)
Re: Review: Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers (Switch)
Re: Yep, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Takes Place After Ocarina of Time
Just want to say thank you Nintendo Life for opening my eyes (no reference intended).
Re: Yooka-Laylee's Wii U Cancellation is Only Due to Technical Challenges, Not the System's Woes

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch May Divide Opinion, But It's Made a Splash
Re: Azure Striker Gunvolt Double Pack Confirmed For Euro Release
I'm definitely getting this. Good thing I held back from buying the first game digitally; as amazing as I heard it was.
Here's hoping it doesn't have a large release gap like many recent 3DS have had....* Cough * Fire Emblem Fates, Yo-Kai Watch and
Dragon Ball Fusions * Cough *
Re: Some Grab Paper Mario: Color Splash Early in North America Due to Preload eShop Error
@Madmanonfire Oh man, now I need to get this game! Where do I pre order from?
Re: Some Grab Paper Mario: Color Splash Early in North America Due to Preload eShop Error
@Rocossa Is.... Is that real?
Please don't tell me that's real. If it really is what you say, you should have linked it to Imgur instead of embedding the image.
Re: Dragon Ball Fusions Arrives in North America This Year, Europe Shortly After
"Better late than never"
I'm tired of people thinking it's OK for Europe releases to be delayed.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Now Battles for Our Time, Not Just Loyalty
@Grumblevolcano Oh come on, Nintendo aren't going to announce their show floor games less than a week before it starts.
Infinite Warfare and 4: Modern Warfare Remastered were cutting it close I'll admit, but they were announced to make an appearance on show floor over a week before EGX kicks off. Name me some games that have been revealed to be on show floor less than a week before EGX has kicked off.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Now Battles for Our Time, Not Just Loyalty
@Grumblevolcano
https://www.egx.net/egx/2016/show-floor
See any Nintendo games or Breath of the Wild there? Sad, I know.
Re: Review: Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past (3DS)
@Yorumi @fchinaski Thanks guys. I'll get it ASAP.
Re: Review: Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past (3DS)
@fchinaski You seem like the right person to answer this question.
As someone who wants to get into the Dragon Quest series, should I get this one or wait for VIII? I've heard VIII is more newcomer friendly so I'm wondering if I should hold off or not. I've got a lot in my backlog as it is right now, but it'll be nice to break it up with an RPG such as Dragon Quest.
Re: Talking Point: The 2017 Role of the 3DS Was Established in its Nintendo Direct
Re: Talking Point: The 2017 Role of the 3DS Was Established in its Nintendo Direct
"The fate for Wii U is altogether more grim"
More like the fate of the Wii U has been decided - its life support was turned off two days ago and it's dead .
It's clear that the 3DS will be Nintendo's main source of income now after this Direct. What's also clear is that they don't want any more people buying a Wii U. @rjejr , you brought up a good point yesterday (Or was it the day before? Can't remember). They probably have around 800,000 units left and don't want to increase its popularity because they've probably ceased their production to make way for the NX. It's sad to see it go though.
Re: Super Mario Maker Is Coming To 3DS
Re: Super Mario Maker Is Coming To 3DS
@BensonUii It's insult to injury.
Re: Super Mario Maker Is Coming To 3DS
@eltomo Get ready for slopes on Super Mario Maker 3DS!
P.S. They can only be created on the New 3DS.
Re: Super Mario Maker Is Coming To 3DS
"Hey Bob, how do we save the Wii U?"
"What if we port over its killer app to the 3DS, which has a much bigger player base, and make tons of cash while we leave it to die?"
"That's a genius idea, Bob! Think we can do this with Wooly World as well?"
"I don't see why not."
It's a clever plan from Nintendo.
Re: Yoshi's Woolly World Will Soften Up Your 3DS In 2017, Poochy amiibo Also Incoming

Re: Metroid Prime: Federation Force Power Bombs in Japan
Re: Niantic Is Lifting Some Pokémon GO Account Bans
@ShaunOfNintendo Why are you greentexting outside of the website beginning with the number 4?
Re: Futuridium EP Deluxe is Heading to New 3DS Very Soon, With Wii U Cross-Buy
I've been on the fence for a while since the game came out on the Wii U. Now this crossbuy seals the deal! Looking forward to playing it.
Re: Video: Go Back to Court With This Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice Prologue
As much as I want to get this game on launch, one thing is stopping me - the price.
I feel that £24.99 for a digital version (the only one coming to the West) is just too much. Just like Zero Time Dilemma, I'll wait for a sale before contemplating buying it.
Re: Weirdness: It's Crazy To Think That Pokémon GO Wouldn't Exist Without Google's April Fool's Prank
@Megumi_Sagano What? This is my first comment about the game.
Re: Weirdness: It's Crazy To Think That Pokémon GO Wouldn't Exist Without Google's April Fool's Prank
Meanwhile in the UK, still no Pokémon GO! ARGH!
Hopefully, we'll get it today.
Also, inb4 you know who complains about the abundance of Pokémon articles again.
Re: Ubisoft Hails Nintendo As "One Of The Best Partners In The World"
@FreakFerrett "But they are a company that must make a profit for their shareholders on a yearly basis"
Re: Ubisoft Hails Nintendo As "One Of The Best Partners In The World"
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Came here to say something along those lines.
Re: Takedown Notice May Spell the End for Digger Dan DX
Just downloaded it while I was out on the road with the small bit of wifi I could find. Can't wait to play it, @ImDiggerDan . Hopefully, Nintendo will realise you can't copyright "gameplay elements". If they're taking this seriously, I expect games like Cube Life: Island Survival and UCraft to be taken down after Mojang say they both copy the crafting system of Minecraft (which is of course a copyrighted gameplay element /s).
Re: Review: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U)
Regarding comment #116, well said @Yorumi .
When a game is localised, it is translated and "adapted" for a different audience/region. This means if something that is considered sensitive to Western audiences is removed from the game during said localisation, it is censored. Censorship is censorship. Nothing will change that.
But what I don't understand is why they aged the protagonists up to 18 years old and then censored the fan service side of the game. When you have a niche audience which likes this fan service and the characters are aged to the point that the fan service isn't considered sensitive or controversial anymore, then why censor the fan service? It just boggles my mind.
And after seeing this tweet from an Atlus PR Manager 2 months ago, I'd like to believe that while Atlus was in charge of localisation Nintendo was censoring the game.... http://archive.is/peu33
I'll leave it at that. If you've read some or all of this, I thank you for your time.
Re: Review: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U)
I'm happy to hear that it's a fun and solid game. However because I'm still playing through Fire Emblem Fates at the moment (over halfway through Conquest, still have Birthright and Revelation to play), a massive backlog to clear out this summer and the letter beginning with "c" I'll be waiting for a price drop or sale.
Re: Metroid Prime: Federation Force Will Have amiibo Support
@Ezzzy The thing is that Wind Waker was released 16 years after the series had begun and fans had plenty of main series releases to play two years before its launch (Majora's Mask and the Oracle games). That was a good time for a change.
This year is Metroid's 30 anniversary. In other words, it's been 30 years since it first started and there have been plenty of chances for a change in tone. The last main series release was 2010 and the last spinoff series release was over 10 years ago. See the difference?
