Come on, Shibata! Give us Explorers of Sky! Now it's our turn to play catchup, I guess. My American friends, I hope you have a blast with the Mystery Dungeon games.
@Marce2240 One of my favourite reviewers had this to say about Star Fox Zero.... "Even when taking away that Star Fox moniker, this game is a mediocre experience." You know what? I think this statement equally applies to Federation Force. Take away Metroid Prime from the title (and the controversy along with it), what do you have? A mediocre game that looks like it once had potential. @Socar I stand by @LUIGITORNADO - in my opinion, this game shouldn't exist for various reasons. I'll go through some of them right now. This began development in 2009, so that's a surefire sign it has been stuck in development hell. The last entry in the franchise was Other M - a game not received well by most fans. The art style and other things such as the mechs indicates that Nintendo/Tanabe want to target the casual audience with this game and not longtime fans. It's also a case of wrong place, wrong time unfortunately. If it was announced alongside a Wii U Metroid game/if a Wii U Metroid game existed beforehand, then maybe fans would have been open to change. But because that isn't so, many fans believe that this is another case of Chibi Robo: Zip Lash - the state of the franchise depends on the success (or failure) of this one game.
"This is where NWPlayer123 enters the story, as she helped tweak the tool to fix this issue. It was all going down to the final day." Sigh NWPlayer123 proving once again she's doing this kind of stuff for the popularity. Didn't she start the whole Octoling hacker situation in Splatoon by proving it was possible to play as them making other hackers who had no idea what the consequences were follow suit? Anyway, I did hear about this last Wednesday and also heard the reason it didn't go down was due to a "snitch" of Twitter. If it did happen, it would have been a disaster for Nintendo. Like @HeCaster101 mentioned, hackers could potentially bypass the coding if they got their mitts on it and end up spoiling things that are meant to be surprises for players. You know, like how NWPlayer123 spoiled multiple weapons for Splatoon as well as Callie and Marie amiibo before they were announced....
The first E3 I ever watched live was E3 2013. I remember it like it was yesterday. The E3 Direct was coming to a close. After being blown away by Bayonetta 2's gameplay and the reveal of Project X from Monolith Soft (which would go onto be my GOTY of last year - Xenoblade Chronicles X), I thought: what can they show next? The answer was Smash 4. As someone who was aware of Brawl but had never played a Smash game in their life, Smash 4 looked really interesting and exciting but I needed something more to safely say "I'm getting this day one". Then it happens. After the 2014 release date, the phrase "New challenger approaching!" flashes on the screen. Some of Nintendo's most famous mascots look up towards this cliff where a figure is standing in a pose on top. And as the camera focuses on this figure, I think the pose is familiar. Then as soon as I hear a sound effect, I start jumping up and down as I scream "MEGA MAN'S IN SMASH! I'M GETTING THIS GAME!". That was the first time in my life I had felt sheer hype over a video game announcement and it was so memorable. @SLIGEACH_EIRE The number 2 reaction on that list was pretty much how I reacted but with less screaming, haha.
I'm expecting one small surprise (cough Mother 3 cough), but that's it. Anyone expecting more than one surprise announcement.... prepare for disappointment.
@BensonUii "It was release 6 months later, why would you expect it to sell? Blah blah blah"
But really, why would you expect a full price game to sell 6 months after initial launch when by that point everyone knows it's an average game with some technical hiccups and when you can buy a better version at a cheaper price?
@OorWullie You're right. Also the Yves Guillemont review in which he said "Wii U gamers only like Just Dance" or something along those lines and the Watch_Dogs Wii U 6 month delay to "improve features" (but they did the usual off TV gameplay and active map on the GamePad screen like they did with their other ports) probably caused even more disdain. They left Wii U for dead.
@ThanosReXXX I was trying to subtly say you brought up a good point about last year's digital event. Nintendo kicked it off with the dessert (Starfox Zero), then moved on to an entrée (Skylanders), then they dished out main courses (TriForce Heroes and Hyrule Warriors Legends), then went back to a starter that's made of Marmite (Federation Force).... and now I've taken this analogy way too far, haha. In short, the pacing was all over the place. Even though I'm slightly disappointed over them putting Pokémon first on the agenda instead of Zelda U, I think the pacing will be better because of it.
So Sun and Moon will be shown during the first half and then Zelda U will be shown during the second half on June 14th? Man, that's a bummer for people who don't care about Pokémon.... or don't want to be spoiled like me, haha. @ThanosReXXX "I always learned that you save the best for last, and not to start a dinner with the desert" Are you implying that Nintendo kicked off their Digital Event last year with the dessert instead of the entrée?
Personally, I find Nintendo's E3 this year to be lacklustre. Sure, as someone in the comments already mentioned, you could take their unusual approach this year as quality over quantity but to me and many others E3 is all about megaton announcements and getting excited over what each platform/company has to offer. It may sound weird, but I want to play Zelda U and Pokémon Sun almost completely blind. After watching the latest trailer for Sun and Moon out of curiosity and internet hype, I already think GameFreak have given away too much about the game for my liking (like that "mysterious" character and the new pokédex) so I'm going to give the entire Pokémon portion of E3 a miss which means I'll be watching about 45 minutes of Nintendo's E3. I'm a bit disappointed to say the least. Also keep in mind that Nintendo fans who aren't interested in Zelda, Pokémon or RPG's in general have been left in the dust by Nintendo this E3. I bet they feel alienated right now.
I didn't even know this competition existed. Thanks for the article, Damien. I bought the game last Wednesday and got it today, so I'll get right onto saving Corneria and getting accustom to the controls. @Grumblevolcano Congratulations on qualifying, man.
@Dezzy Regarding #210 about Watch Dogs Wii U. "Watch Dogs took months longer to release on Wii U and then sold almost nothing when it had." Ubisoft delayed the Wii U port from May to November of 2014 (about a week before Sm4sh Wii U IIRC) to "make sure the game was good" when they shipped it. After that, fans didn't get further information until around 2 weeks before launch when Ubisoft provided a few screenshots and announced it would not receive DLC released on other versions. The game finally launched and surprise surprise, it was a standard port at full price which didn't make use of the GamePad apart from offscreen play. Is it really that surprising that it didn't sell well considering the timing of its release, little to no information about it beforehand and the fact you could pick up better versions at a cheaper price at that point? It's as if Ubisoft wanted the port to sell miserably....
Awesome! I was thinking it would release in the middle of the month, so this is earlier than I expected. So now that us Europeans will get to play as Corrin in Sm4sh next week, can we please get a European release date for Fates Nintendo?
I liked the European Direct for the most part, but the lack of release date for Fire Emblem Fates over here really killed it for me. America are getting it on February 19th yet we in Europe still have a placeholder date of 2016. No month, no season - just 2016. 😔
Also, is it just me or did they reconfirmed a lot of release windows for games? I thought people already knew that Zelda U would be coming out next year and Fast Racing Neo was coming out sometime in December.
