Re: First Impressions: Kid Icarus: Uprising

@lex0plex: It's when you're trying to support the (3)DS with only your left hand, resting one finger on the L button and your thumb on the Circle/D-Pad. The other hand is pressing against the touchscreen with the stylus, causing the left wrist to sometimes cramp up if you're not used to it. Definitely not the most comfortable of positions, but you can get around the cramping if you rest the handheld on your leg or other surface.

Re: First Impressions: 3DS Operating System and Built-In Software

@warioswoods: Correct about the multitasking. As mentioned, you can only hop between your game, Notifications, Browser, Friend List and Game Notes. While the main menu screen pops up when you hit Home and you can jump to another application, jumping anywhere apart from those destinations will exit the current application/game.

The second image is what happens when you press Home. You can see the multitask bar at the top of the bottom screen and the main menu filling out the rest.

@Bensei: Definitely used a PNG, don't know why it looks like that on the main page and not here.

@BJWanlund: Re: your answer to @14:

The original Game Boy's resolution is much smaller than what the 3DS's top screen is capable of, so the image has been stretched to fit vertically. As a result, it's noticeably blurry but certainly not unplayable. It's tough to judge from a video, but in person it's very apparent.

@Bass X0: When was the last time you actually played Mario Land?

I called it "bizarre" because it does stuff that no other Mario game has even tried to incorporate since, like exploding turtle shells and hyper-bouncy fireballs. Plus the physics are a little wacky compared to other ones.

Re: Pachter: Nintendo Should Charge More for 3DS

JonWahlgren

1. He's not talking to gamers, he's talking to investors when he says these things. Investors like lots of money. A higher price tag for an item that will surely sell out this fiscal year is good for them.

2. He points out how surprised he is by how consumer-friendly Nintendo is being in this case. That's a nod to us and how not-quite-as-screwed we all are by the price.

I think $250 is pretty hefty, but it's no $300 like everyone expected it to be.

EDIT: And it won't be $250 forever. Early adopters always get screwed in every case, so if you have a serious problem with the price tag then don't buy it until it comes down.

Re: Donkey Kong Land

I played the crap out of this game back in ze day. Probably got more enjoyment out of it than I did with the SNES games, even though it's obviously not as strong. But hey, portable!

Re: Review: Call of Duty: Black Ops (Wii)

JonWahlgren

@Hypno1001: By "no local multiplayer", I mean you can't play splitscreen, so having two Classic Controller Pros would be useless for this specific game. If you want to do a lot of splitscreen multiplayer, you should get GoldenEye.

Re: Podcast: NLFM Episode 10: Fear Your Tears

I accidentally messed up the file name when I uploaded it (double extension if you must know), so I'm re-upping it as I type. Go make some tea and it should be done by the time you get back.

EDIT: After re-uploading it, same problem. Argh.

Re: Review: GoldenEye 007 (DS)

JonWahlgren

@CCEFanboy27: I called it bizarre because it always fires three shells at a time when you pull the trigger. I'm not up on my weapons, but that seemed really odd to me.

@James Worldwide, so bring it on! Anyone else up for a game with fellow NLifers, plop your Friend Code in the online gaming thread.

@Monteblanco: I mention the objectives:
"Newer conventions like regenerating health and weapon carrying limits have wormed their way in, and older ones like added objectives depending on difficulty are still here, if a bit on the bland side."

Re: We Love this Michael Jackson Wii Glove, It's So Bad

JonWahlgren

Grrr, profits for a business, how dare they!

Seriously, you might want to loosen that tin foil hat of yours. Casting the fact that Ubisoft is trying to make money off of their popular franchise using one of the biggest musical stars in history known for being awesome at the game's premise as overly exploitive is kinda silly.

And the whole re-issues are evil argument is bogus. So just because someone died means that estates have to stop commercializing the artist/actor/whatever because it's somehow wrong, and thus deprive fans and future generations from enjoying what they love? It's bad to enable people to discover a massive talent after they've died? iTunes should have pulled the entire MJ catalogue so as not to inadvertently make money off of fans sad about his death, Ubisoft should cancel this game because it's too conveniently timed and nobody should be allowed to see This Is It because it's all just exploitive and evil.

"But there are bootlegs of these things, why do we need a commercial release?"

Because your average person has no clue how to get ahold of said bootleg performances. Also, because they might want a professional release. When the Nirvana Reading performance was released on CD and DVD I scooped it up. I already had the bootleg video, so why spend money on it? Better quality, collectible, and it looks great with the rest of my albums.

Re: Netflix Channel Now Available From Wii Shop

JonWahlgren

@JirachiFan: Those aren't through Netflix, those are through the Microsoft-owned-and-operated Zune Marketplace. Netflix never sold movies on XBLM.

@Captain-Delton: Have you been able to get them to work? I've been unsuccessful.
