I have been and am still getting Violet. The only thing I'm sorry to miss out on from this info is Tyranitar. But there's always trading, so no worries.
I get the gripe if there really is no level-scaling for gyms. I think that would have been the more 'obvious' approach to having the open-world.
The traditional way of playing a Pokemon game is to build a party as you go, leveling up your party, maybe swapping in one or two different Pokemon as needed for type matchups at gyms.
But with this 'go anywhere' approach, you could use it as an excuse to develop a new team with each gym. Say you do want to grind a party of 6 right off to challenge the strongest gym. What do you do when you wind up back at one of the easier gyms? Go choose another party of lower-leveled or non-evolved Pokemon that you like. Each gym could be more of a holistic test of you as a trainer as opposed to 'have you netted the total required amount of experience points to beat this next gym leader?'
I'm always looking for ways to organically train lots of different Pokemon in a game instead of getting locked into the 10 most powerful ones I find on the gym journey.
I'm a fan of both Legendary designs. They may have been my favorite part of the trailer. Their reveal reminded me of Lugia/Ho-Oh and Zekrom/Reshiram — how they look similar or even related and they're situated in these high or remote locations.
Taken as a whole, they do look like lizards with those inflatable pouches on their throat, so the 'wheels' don't look out of place. I read them much more like energy turbines/wheels as opposed to a straight up motorcycle tire.
I think they look so cool. And the boxarts look appropriately epic, since the trailer portrayed them as the covers of books.
Ooooh, I love the new Legendary designs. They're like those lizards who can inflate their necks.
The distinction between versions with one being more old-world and the other being more futuristic is showing thru a lot more with these Legendaries and the professors.
It's interesting to see some of these human character designs. They look way more in line with the character designs in Pokemon Go. Sort of generic and aged-up compared to previous games.
It's always nice to see new Pokemon debut. That little orange mouse/dog looks like Kirby's new Awoofy enemy. Very cute.
@Kirby_Girl Yes! I love the ending of Adventure where the game plainly states, "King Dedede was trying to help." That really is the moment that seals Kirby and Dedede as allies.
I haven't played much of Super Star, but I consistently see it listed as a favorite for many people.
@Kirby_Girl I do think Adventure is really the start of the series, despite not being the actual first game. It's where Kirby's ability to inhale and copy powers first appeared, and that's really essential to Kirby as a character. It's such a pretty NES game, too!
@Kirby_Girl You're right. There are a lot of similarities (or things lifted directly) from Dreamland 3. Even many of the bosses like Acro and (essentially) Adeline.
I do like the animal buddies as characters, but it seems more in-line with the character that the combo powers would be inherent to Kirby as opposed to needing some team-up. But it's hard to argue when Nago is so stinkin' cute.
@Clyde_Radcliffe There are collectible cards, kind of like the collectable gatcha machine toys in Forgotten Land.
And the primary objective of the game is collecting the hidden crystal shards in every level. As usual, getting 100% in the game leads you to...more of the game. Definitely worth doing in this one.
I think a mention needs to be given to the music, which is so bouncy and fun (until it's unsettling and other-wordly).
Also, the 100% collection of the crystal shards is worth it. I won't be the one to spoil it for anyone who hasn't played it, but what happens from there (and, again, the music) is still such a great "Oh, this is Kirby" moment.
And, as the author already pointed out, the ability to combine powers was really, really cool. The game encouraged experimentation, and every power and power combo was really fun and cute.
That Surgull is the most convincing fan art design I've seen for the water starter. Seems entirely plausible, keeps the design elements from Quaxly and embellishes in a natural way.
@TrainerRosa Yeah, the funny thing (especially including this Picolebre design) is the sort of doofy-looking facial expression carries through.
I'm thinking back to Serperior, which was a regal/smug snake. That attitude seems fitting for a final evo, but it seems more unusual to have a light-hearted attitude on a final evo (at least judging by most starter's official art.)
@DanijoEX Yes, the fire/fairy type combo would be really cool. I'm all for starters getting unique or unusual typings. Like Greninja with water/dark, Decidueye with grass/ghost or even Empoleon with water/steel.
I loved the demo. Specifically, in the most recent demo, I was surprised to find the mindfield battles (practice sessions that still seemed to give you experience and prizes) in the encampment. As well as the ability to promote your units and enhance your weapons there.
Game still looks so great. Kirby games are always a blast. I'm glad they've implemented difficulty levels (still expecting the game to be on the easy side either way).
And it sounds like the Mouthful Modes can combine with copy abilities? Either way, Kirby abilities are always what I enjoy about this series.
Of course 2-player co-op is really exciting! I know we'll be playing thru the game together on my channel.
For fun, I asked my three kids which they'd choose. The two older ones (6yo and 5 yo) picked the grass cat immediately. The youngest (3yo) chose fire croc.
I'm personally leaning towards Fuecoco. He's giving me those Totodile vibes I'm living for.
While I most likely won't ever play this game, THANK YOU for this review as it led me to check out the soundtrack. Really fun! Gives me flashbacks to De Blob's soundtrack.
Yes! Looks so good! I'm excited about Kirby being in 3D, and the graphics are so sweet looking!
BUT, my co-host and I will be playing this on the Games Conversation Channel over on YouTube, so I'm really excited about the 2-player co-op! Looks like it'll be a ton of fun!
Whoa! This looks soooo good! Kirby is at his best when the stakes are high, there's a big adventure and lots of FUN! And 2-player co-op confirmed? Looks awesome.
We're playing Earthbound on our channel in January! Can't wait! That after-Christmas winter time feels like such a great time to play this cozy awesome quirky game.
Would be so great if Mother 3 ever gets released, but anyone holding their breath at this point has probably passed out. Still would be great tho!
@geiseldiesel I agree with you. The story is the big draw to the game. And while I enjoyed the motion controls on Wii, it's been nice to play with the Pro Controller on Switch.
The amount of backtracking and slow/padded-out find-the-things quests is really what kills the flow of the game for me.
It does seem like it should be someone big/meaningful, but in a weird Nintendo way. More in line with the surprise characters like ROB and Game & Watch. Even Duck Hunt Dog and Piranha Plant.
I wonder if Sakurai goes back to Smash Bros origins and serves up a fighter from Dragon King.
But I agree with others, people will be upset no matter who it is.
@Funneefox I was noticing the Waddle Dees, too. Specifically, that there are three of them, and they're functioning like a news crew or something similar.
In the trailer, we saw Kirby rescue three Waddle Dees. I wonder if this Waddle Dee news crew is the trio that you rescue, maybe early on, and they document/report on Kirby exploring this abandoned planet? One of them even has a 'teleprompter' of sorts with that spiral-bound notebook saying, "!!"
Alternatively, maybe they function more like the Toad Brigade in the Galaxy games — just sort of around and occasionally offering side-questy material.
Wow. That was INTENSE. I just finished Zero Mission last night, so the call back to that Chozo wall art/hieroglyphics scene hits hard. And obviously, so cool to see Kraid be brought back and looking even more fierce and gross than before. I thought the EMMIs were what would sell the 'Dread' of it all, but the tension between that Super Chozo and Samus as it builds throughout the trailer as she's eventually overcome — ending on that heavy version of the main title theme. Whew. Just incredible.
Agreed @the_beaver, this is probably just the first area. Especially with the mention that now Samus can also find Energy Parts (like heart pieces?), I'm guessing the world will be much bigger than just these lab/cave areas we've been shown since there will be more upgrades to find than in previous games.

I have been and am still getting Violet. The only thing I'm sorry to miss out on from this info is Tyranitar. But there's always trading, so no worries.
Re: Talking Point: What Does Your Favourite Pokémon Say About You?
I started back with Pokemon Red. My favorite in that game? Mr. Mime! Or "Marcel" as he was called when you could only get one by trading.
With Gold, my favorite was Shuckle.
Ruby, I loved Chimeco.
Diamond, Chingling!
I recently got back into Pokemon with Sword and Shield and discovered a love for Rhibombee. Toxtricity was another favorite.
I generally like a lot of Ghost, Dark, Fairy and Psychic types as they have the most unique/weird/cool vibes going on.

@kupocake Haha, honestly my first thought, too. He's such a champion for this game.

Re: A Kirby And The Forgotten Land Demo Is Out Now
Oh cool! Definitely didn't expect a demo, but I'll of course try it.
It's similar to the Metroid Dread demo, in that I know I'm getting the game anyway, and the demo is a way to alleviate the tension of the hype haha. 😜

That Postwick Gen II Remix reminds me so much of music from the original Pokemon Pinball.
I would definitely play a Gen II styled Sword/Shield demake.

Dread looks so so good. I'm playing thru Zero Mission now to tide me over. Glad it's not that long of a wait from here!
