A brand new trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet dropped earlier today, and we got lots of little bits of information for the upcoming 9th generation of Pokemon games, including a November release date.
However, we also got our first look at the game's brand new legendaries who will adorn the box art and (likely) will be waiting for eager trainers towards the end of their Scarlet or Violet journey.
Named Koraidon and Miraidon, these two serpentine creatures match their respective associated colour perfectly. Koraidon, with its beautiful white, pink, and blue plumage and red scales will be exclusive to Scarlet, while Miraidon has what looks like engines at its feet, and glows, will be the Violet exclusive legendary.
The new trailer also gave us a look at the duo's starring role on the front cover, both looking majestic and powerful against a backdrop matching their colour scheme:
There's not much to go on other than their designs right now, but Miraidon might just have some electric-typing going on there, what with the glowing chest and all that.
Don't forget to check out all of our Scarlet and Violet coverage throughout the day, including that trailer!

They remind me of motorcycles
Not really a fan of their designs as they fall into the post Gen 2 design ethos of more is more. That being said, the character designs are great so it balances out.
Koraidon looks pretty good, although I don't like the other one at all. It's all personal preference, but I've always thought Pokemon should be creatures, and stuff with machinery or something built in have always been weird to me.
I’m a sucker for dragon looking designs, still don’t know what version I’m going for yet tho.
This box art is a huge step up from Sword and Shield's "graphic design is my passion" approach.
Given the clear theme of past (Koraidon) and future (Miraidon), the designs are well done. I’m having trouble deciding which game I’ll start first
Yeah Scarlet. Without a doubt. Koraidon is absolutely ******* SICK.
I just hope now they don't pull a SwSh and have a really cool Pokemon only to lock it behind the version I'm not picking (looking at you Sirfetch'd).
Oooh...! 😯
So Koraidon is the Past and Miraidon is the Future.
In the past we use normal motorcycle with wheel but in the future we use anti gravity vehicle.
Look at the design of the Legendaries.
Why do the legendaries have wheels on their chests? There's no way anyone can look at the red one and not think that's a wheel
But I guess we have chandelier and keys pokemons, so maybe its not that weird
@Anti-Matter totally! And it sounds like “ride on” as well, I assume these will have alternate forms that look more like a vehicle for the player to ride on like mega Lati@s in ORAS
wow these are..... wow. they look, uh...
yeah.
I don't really get Koraidon...it's got a tyre stuck through it's chest?
Miraidon is more mechanic sure, but we've had essentially robot Pokémon since Magnemite in gen 1 so it doesn't really feel out of place to me. Overall it's design feels sleeker and makes more sense to me.
I love their design. I want a steelbook for these games but I just know Nintendo will screw over North Americans yet again & only produce them for Europe.
I'm guessing Fire-Dragon & Electric-Dragon types but I could be wrong!
If these legendaries aren’t screaming “we’re out of ideas,” I don’t know what to tell you.
I personally think these look awesome. I've been on the series since Red and Blue and this still feels in line with Pokemon for me. Way more than whatever the ***** Calyrex was and the pure meme-level inspiration of a wolf holding a sword in its mouth.
They look a bit more like early Digimon than usual, which may be a good or a bad thing depending on taste. I think I liked the wolves more, but the lizards may grow on me yet.
Now we have a problem because both my girlfriend and I want Violet...
@maulinks I think they're supposed to be throat patches, like on some lizards. They do appear to be reptiles, after all.
Like them both, can't wait to find out what Types they are. The thing on Koraidon's neck reminds me of freakin' Duel & Alpha Hydranoid's chest saws from Bakugan, which pleases me greatly.
Well... they're better than Sword and Shield's legendaries at least.
Now those were the worst legendary designs in the series by far.
Anything else is a step up at this point.
That said the designs look interesting, they're giving off transformer vibes the way how they look similar to a motorcycle as someone pointed out, maybe they have an alternate form?
@mr-duster Ah fair enough, that does make sense.
They seem more natural on the blue legendary though, on the red one it really does look like a wheel was pushed into his neck.
Really cool designs for both, but especially Koraidon.
I'm a fan of both Legendary designs. They may have been my favorite part of the trailer. Their reveal reminded me of Lugia/Ho-Oh and Zekrom/Reshiram — how they look similar or even related and they're situated in these high or remote locations.
Taken as a whole, they do look like lizards with those inflatable pouches on their throat, so the 'wheels' don't look out of place. I read them much more like energy turbines/wheels as opposed to a straight up motorcycle tire.
I think they look so cool. And the boxarts look appropriately epic, since the trailer portrayed them as the covers of books.
The 'wheel' thing in their chest looks kind of out of place on Miraidon, but then it looks like it fits just fine with Koraidon. Welp, I'll go with Scarlet anyway, I knew I'd go for Koraidon within seconds of seeing them side-by-side.
Best legendaries since gen 5!!!!
Overdesigned, I can barely make out what they are. Sometimes less is more.
The designs are okay but those are weird names.
I'm going with the Jet Harrier one
I kinda like both. I guess it’ll depend on the other version exclusives. I was leaning Scarlet before but I do like the futuristic idea of Violet.
Not gonna lie, I expected one of them to have a angelic theme or something on it. But thinking about it, mascot legendaries represent the main culture of a region in general, like in Kalos and Galar. Both have got enticing designs, but I think they could end up having the same typings as Reshiram and Zekrom respectively.
@Fizza Version-specific pokemon are a long tradition. Always had to do some trading with the other version to catch-em-all, back to the beginning.
🙋🏾♂️I'll get Violet as it's closer to my favourite colour (🔵) but I'll get both eventually.
Honestly they both look like garbage. Its mainly their chest that bothers me. They look like a frog when it inflates its chest its terrible. But besides that yeah they still ain't great.
