We have to say we're really looking forward to getting our hands on Detective Pikachu when it lands on the 3DS on 23rd March, 2018. In the game you will take on the role of young Tim Goodman and explore with his talkative partner Pikachu. Yes it is weird that Pikachu now talks - and who expected that accent, either?
Tim and this gruff, coffee-drinking Pikachu have teamed up to investigate the disappearance of Tim's father. Look for clues, talk to witnesses, and uncover the secrets of Ryme City. A special Detective Pikachu amiibo is in the works, too. This amiibo features a sleuthing Pikachu that's larger than the standard amiibo, and when used with your game, it can unlock short videos that may contain helpful hints for your investigation.

If all that has you hot under the collar, then check out the new trailer above to see more action from the game itself. Sure, 3DS games look kinda pixelated these days, but it sure does look like a whole heap of fun.
Let us know if you plan to pick this up in March with a comment below.

I’m tempted but will probably pass.
Yikes it looks like they showed mainly cutscenes. What's more revealing is that this might be what the live action movie will be like? I wish it was headed for the Switch, also--the 3D work looks Switch-ready.
I'm just gonna get my Pokemon friend to buy it and pass it around like the bubonic plague. Easy peasy; the game itself looks weird and way too action oriented. There's a reason why a movie is coming out
I mean this is more similar to say...Ace Attorney than the RPG or action spinoffs.
Well I hope in the first scene of the game they explain why detective Pikachu talks — something no other Pokemon appears to be able to do. Watching that unfold is sooooo weird.
Anyone still disappointed they didn't go with Danny DeVito for the voice or is it just me?
1st/2nd party 3DS games from Nintendo being released in 2018.
Yes... That is still a thing.
@GC-161 Nintendo Treehouse was getting bored not translating anything since its mostly ports for months (and Kirby)
I want that amiibo
@ieatdragonz Someone needs to buy Treehouse's ppl a Switch.
It’s nice to see some small efforts from Nintendo to close out the 3DS, even if this is simply a localization of a game released in Japan in 2016. Part of me believes this was only released to set the stage for the Detective Pikachu movie, but I welcome it either way, and I look forward to playing it.
Miiiiiight need that Amiibo
Considering there is also a movie coming (with Ryan Reynolds as d.Pikachu, I guess...) I wonder if this is a complementary game, an adaptation or a completely different story...
I want that amiibo! We'll see about the game, I haven't played my 3DS in several months at this point. Totally on Team Switch right now!
Buying it, of course.
DetectivePikachu with that voices = MEH !!
I knew it !
That voice actor Ruined it !
@masterLEON
Well I guess this blows my entire earlier comment out of the water.
Retail release, eh? Noice.
The voiceover work is absolute garbage though.
I'm not interested in anything Pokemon. Just popped in to let you know the Detective Pikachu amiibo costs $30.
Don’t usually do Pokémon myself, but this does look interesting to me! I’ll probably pick it up at some point.
Interested but considering my 3DS's collecting dust since March, I doubt I'd play it much. Gimme that amiibo, though! Give it now!
@thesilverbrick there's new content. It's not simply the japanese game being localized.
Both games in one package? Okay, you've got my attention, Nintendo.
Where is the EU release news?
If this comes to Europe, I will unashamedly buy it.
Actually looks like it could be really cool.
Remember when Nintendo at least tried to make their tie in games sound consistent? Seems like those days have long since passed.
My god, it's glorious.
I must have it.
I'm still not able to play Detective Pikachu.
#DoNotForgiveNintendo
Let's just hope the... unique voice acting is because of NOA's direction...
>3DS
woah is it 2016
You know if they really wanted to promote their upcoming live action movie, releasing it on a dead console isn't the best way to do so.
Probably gonna get it, just to say I’ve played a game with Pikachu in a deerstalker hat.
Too late, I'd say.
@RazumikhinPG @ROBLOGNICK The game has been confirmed for a worldwide release (Japan (retail), North America, and Europe) on March 23, 2018.
Ew
@MoonKnight7 The rotom Pokedex, Ash's Pikachu, Hoopa, Snover, Darkrai, Manaphy, Slowking, Entei, Ghastly, and Meowth are all able to speak.
Wasn't there a movie too? When is that releasing or has it already released?
o..kaay?
This game is a maybe for me, I'll have to read the reviews first. I'd enjoy this, but it's not a high priority for me.
I'm curious about what the amiibo does. I don't plan on getting the amiibo, so it could discourage me from getting the game if too much is locked away by it.
I'll be keeping an eye on this one. It looks quirky and fun.
@MoonKnight7
Meowth
I need this in my life, XD
@quinnbad It'd be nice, but Danny already said he wasn't interested (forgot the source but I saw it in one of the comments here) so I'd rather someone enthusiastic voice him.
@MoonKnight7 It'll be touched upon but not right of the bat. In fact all talking Pokemon are explained or implied. Meowth in the anime taught himself human. Most of the movie hero mons speak in telepathy (including Ash's Pikachu in Movie 20). And the Mystery Dungeon games where you (a human) got turned into a Pokemon thus understanding their language.
At last! It took long enough for the game to be released outside Japan. But the wait is finally over. As for the Amiibo... it's a must have. Although it's pricey.
mess.
Due to my Pokemon addiction I will be buying this regardless.
This looks realy cool. I'm not selling away my 3ds just yet then lol! This and mario tennis on switch in march can't wait.
Wait! When was this announced for the US?! I thought it would never come! Yay
Looks interesting, but I would much rather have the Switch Pokemon RPG.
@Melkac
3DS is NOT a Dead machine.
There are still some upcoming games for 3DS regardless of their region.
@rjejr Well, no one really knows what Nintendo's up to, I guess
I have been waiting for this for so freaking long. I can’t express how hyped I am and I am definitely buying that massive amiibo
@crimsontadpoles "I'm curious about what the amiibo does."
It let's Nintendo make $30 for a $5 piece of plastic. 😆

Nice new avatar, did flaming Chibi inspire it?
@MoonKnight7 It’s explained in the game, and only the main character can understand him. Everyone else just hears the usual “pika pika.”
No Danny Devito???? Nintendo dropped the ball.
This...this is going on my wishlist.
What's this 3DS garbage
I will probably grab the amiibo. not sure about the game yet
Skipping the game, but I'm buying that amiibo for my desk at work!
@quinnbad It is 2016 game though
@rjejr lol, just a coincidence. I changed the avatar just before the Chibi Robo tweet.
@Anti-Matter ...And?
Voiced by Ryan reinolds, just joking!
@crimsontadpoles Timing is everything. 😆
elementary My dear charlizard lol.
Yikes.. I think I'm just going to import the original for my Japanese 3DS instead. Not liking Pikachu's English voice actor..
@SanderEvers I only mentioned Pokemon that actually speak, I think Mewtwo and Lucario use telepathy
