@abe_hikura Nintendo bar for success is much lower cause it chump change to develop for the Switch, and Nintendo actually make profit from the sales of their hardware. No booming development cost and subsidizing $600+ hardware.
Even as someone who get ill from poor framerates, have a highish end gaming PC (i7 9700k and a 3080ti) connected to high end 240hz monitor. I can basically play games at 4k/120fps if I want. Currently playing Soul Hackers 2 at 4k/200FPS.
I'm perfectly fine with 30FPS as long as it has no dips, have perfect frame pacing, and don't have mass input lag. There basically only one game i can think of that has more or less manage to accomplish this to a T, and that Forza horizon. If a gane can't do that... 60FPS or higher is always gonna feel better.
@moodycat To some studios, Metacritic score actually do matter and it can determine if employees get a bonus; and some studio hire employees based on if they was apart of team who shipped a 90 Metacritic score game... But let's hope those studios are looking at critic scores and not user scores.
@HenHiro Like I said, Elden Ring is the way it is cause of Fromsoftware not Bandai. Bandai is willing to invest simply cause Fromsoftware name alone will see a return on that investment. Digimon is far from the biggest franchise they own as the popularity of the IP has dwindled since the 90s. Gundam is Bandai biggest franchise by far. Probably followed by the Tales of games and tekken if we're not talking about licensed IPs.
But Bandai rather shovel out mid budget games cause they know fans will eat that garbage up. If Bandai isn't willing to put actual money behind a DBZ game or Gundam game. Something that will have a bigger return investment compared to digimon. I doubt we'll get any big budget digimon games.
An open world pokemon game doesn't excite me if the game quality doesn't hold up. PLA had plenty of quality issues that I doubt will be fix in these games.
@HenHiro Well there isn't really a mainline digimon game, so stuff like Survive and Cybersleuth aren't spin offs. The closest thing a spin off for digimon probably digimon digital card battle.
I don't really see what Elden Ring has to do with this? Elden Ring was the way it was cause Fromsoftware, not Bandai. LMAO.
Actually, I have played PLA. Pre-order and played it day 1. But Scarlet/Violet doesn't look promising in the slightest, and this coming from someone who have played EVERY pokemon spinoff and mainline game, and double dips for each version. Maybe what ever they show off today will change my mind. If not, this will probably be the first release I skip in 21 years.
@HenHiro That may not be great. But they're at least better than whatever garbage the Pokemon Co and Gamefreak will be releasing at the end of the year.
And requesting a big budget anything from Bandai is like asking for pigs to fly. Lmao. Look at how well they're treating the DBZ, Naruto, and One piece license.
Both Cybersleuth and now Survive are fantastic ideas. It bring fresh ideas to IPs that have outlived their stay. Why do you think we got the same thing from Pokemon with detective Pikachu and pokemon Conquest?
Not surprising that BD/SP outsold Pokémon Legends: Arceus. BD/SP had the benefit of releasing before the holiday season. All those kids that wanted a pokemon game Christmas got BD/SP. Legends release right after the end of the holidays, so didn't get sale boost from the holidays.
@westman98 All of those studio are nothing but bloat. Those studios are excatly why Ubisoft has some many issues. Way too many cooks in the kitchen. They also drive up operations cost which is probably why Ubisoft has to pump out endless open world game back to back. Closing up a couple satellite studios isn't gonna cause the value to drop as they still have a big enough staff at the main studios to continue development, and you can easily outsource the stuff the satellite studios did.
@Not_Soos The only thing is that it doesn't make sense. Why close down their publishing label, shutdown/close all their studios. Only to than return to the industry 4-5 years later by buying EA.
@Pod I was thinking the same thing too, but it the logo that shows up in official state of play video on the official Playstation youtube. So they could be in process of logo changes.
@dimi 1440P/60FPS docked is probably gonna be out of Nintendo's reach as not even the Series S does that. 1080P/30FPS with last gen PS4/Xbox One era graphics is the most we can hope for.
Not surprised we got gen 9 announcement. We have basically got 2 pokemon games every year for the last couple of years may it be remakes, new generation, spin off or mobile games. It there was bound to something else new for this year.
@Xansies I really think it come down to engine choice. MH Rise was built on the RE Engine. An engine that is use for all the recent Resident Evil games and Devil May Cry 5. An engine mainly designed for modern systen and high gaming devices like PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and High end PC, and breath taking visuals and animations.
So the backend was in place with Rise, so they just had to scale down which modern engine are very capable of.
Game freak seems to suffering from what many Japanese developers suffered from during the PS3 and Xbox 360 era, but far worse due to them coming from a handheld device. They are probably still using an engine and tools set designed around the DS and it outdated hardware, but are trying to scale up instead of start from scratch and building something modern.
@Meteoroid Well the good thing is that this isn't really pushing to be a competitor anyway. No one will be able to buy this unless they're a developer.
It also really just a product to convince developers to start taking mobile gaming more seriously cause the hardware and marketshare is there... They just need to have the hardware in their hands.
Honestly, we as switch fans should be happy about this. As there is a very high chance that a next gen Switch will be using Snapdragon, and if not... Having developer more familized with developing game around mobile ARM based hardware isn't a negative.
@Meteoroid Devices like the normal GPD win devices are portable PC, Steam Deck is the one of those devices that blurs the line. This on the other hand is targeting soley the portable gaming market. This isn't even coming close to portable PC. Most portable PC/PC like device still runs an x84-64 chips set using either a custom Linux OS or windows. This is gonna be running Android on an ARM chip.
Who ever is handling the development of these vampire the masquerade need to do better... The only time i ever see anything about these games in the news. Is when they are getting delayed.
@AstroTheGamosian I wouldn't say it got the short end of the stick. It literally released at the tail end of the generation. The WiiU was technically a 8th generation console, and so was competing with the Xbox One and PS4, so again... Nintendo released a massively weaker console.
Most developers at that time was focused on developing content for Xbox One and PS4, and was only releasing content on PS3/Xbox 360 to take advantage of the massive player base.
The WiiU had neither specs or player base on it side, and also didn't have unreal engine support... A engine that was on a massive raise at the time.
@Octane_st1m Yeah. This something they started back in 2019. While Riot, the actual studio, isn't into making single player experience. They want to continue making mostly live-service games that primarily focus on the competitive, multiplayer experience. They know that people love the LoL IP, characters, lore, universe. So they created Riot Forge, a separate label within Riot Games that is focused on publishing League of Legends games from third-party game studios
@Twisted_Mind While that would be cool... I really don't think Switch has the system resources to spare to proper integrate anything from discord... People don't realize that in order to get that stuff to function. Nintendo would have set aside cpu cores, ram.. etc for that stuff to properly function.
@twztid13 Million of people own high phones, but very few of them use it for games, and even fewer used it for high end gaming experiences like Genshin Impact. That number get even smaller in the west where mobile games aren't nearly as popular as in the Asian markets.
Millions of people would rather of the game on a dedicated handheld than their smartphone.
@twztid13 Uh... I was only mention BoTW cause it game performance is still extremely sub par considering it a big IP from a first party team. We've had many better open world games on the platform that performance doesn't even come close to performing as bad from both 3rd and 1st party studios.
Many people can still find Botw playable. So if Genshin hit that bare minimum for performance it'll be fine on the Switch.
Pokemon Go was successful not just of the Pokemon name itself. It was successful because the game style fit the IP. The kind of game that they released for Harry Potter just didn't work.
@anoyonmus Unity have generally always had an issue with console hardware in general. But there is nothing wrong with Unity on the Switch as long as the developers know what they are doing. Games like Cuphead, Snipperclips, Ori and the Blind Forest... And that new game that just came to switch, Dusk, all run fine on the Switch.
@anoyonmus And most high end phone cost almost 2-3 times more than Switch so it isn't surprising.
And while the PS4 version didn't run ok. It wasnt unplayable, nor was it even all that bad; unless you was someone who super sensitive to performance inconsistencies. They've also made massive changes to the performance over the last year.
We're also talking about the Switch... A platform where people are fine play DOOM, a 60FPS game, at 30FPS... As long as the performance is at least on par or better than BoTw. People will be fine.
@Octane_st1m I don't know... The Switch has what 90 million units sold. That alone is enough to make any port worth it.
Also saying that lot of other players are already invested in other platforms as reason for poor market share is a poor excuse when Genshin Impact is cross-platform/cross-save with all platforms. Being able to grind out Expeditions, dailies, and use your resin while on go away from your PC or PS4 would be a God send. Genshin impact on Switch could be the definitive handheld version for the millions of player who refuse to play on smartphone/tablet.
@-wc- Both the GPD Win1/2 was offering better handheld game vs the Switch 2017. But their $600+ price tag made them more or a none competitor to the Switch.
Switch has literally done well do to any other portable console being too over price.
The Steam Deck is the only portable/handheld system that has managed to break in competiting range of the Switch due to sub $600 price tag.
@-wc- Both the PSP and DS would have been marketed around the same time, so no body would have even looked at the DS as the strongest handheld, even at the time of release when the PSP would be releasing just a coupe of weeks later.
In terms of the handheld and portable space the Switch hardware wasn't even all that impressive at launch. It was the price that made it impressive. It didn't require selling a kidney like other handheld.
Even now with things like the Steam Deck, GPD WIN... etc. None of them can even compete in the same space as the Switch due to price.
@Specter_of-the_OLED We would all love Sega to do that... But that not how the world work when you got bills to pay, developers to pay with families, mortgages, and bills of their own.
This guy can say that cause he only has to worry about himself, and only himself. Stardew probably made him so much money, and he could have easily disappeared off the face of the earth. So he just chosing to develop another game cause he wanted to.
@GannonBanned Cause the type of gamer who would talk about framerate aren't ever gonna be in the wild. They're too busy locked up in a dark bedroom some where trying to min max their character in WoW, or having online arguments with random on the internet.
@MH4 Would never happen. Disney more or less keep their IPs in a wall garden. Just read any interview about the amount of work the developer's of Disney Infinity had to do. There was a significant number of mind-boggling obstacles with licensing that the developer had to overcome that caused all sorts of restrictions. Brands couldn't exactly overlap with ease.
@Davzilla Cause it extremely hard to make a game like smash, and for it to actually sell well... Look at Playstation All Stars.
EDIT: Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that over a million copies of the game had been sold by June 12, 2013, though he conceded that, at the time, this was not enough to justify a sequel or developing further DLC for the game
These companies want Smash like number, not a few million or few thousand sold.
@Tendogamerxxx Consider past Omega Force games aren't known for having the greatest of framerate on any consoles... I definitely think the developers are the one to blame, and not the hardware.
I'm all for cloud gaming where it make sense. Games like dying light 2, Hitman 3, Guardians of the galaxy, and KH3 makes sense. Games like KH 1 and 2 Super ultra deluxe heart remind edition doesn't make sense being on the cloud.
Cloud gaming is unavoidable. It is the future, and every company knows this.
Why spend $500 on a console when you can buy a $100 tablet and play Battlefield 2042 at 4k/120fps and Ray Tracing? Or why upgrade to the next Xbox when you can use your current gen Xbox and play the same games.
It'll open up the industry to so many more people.
If Nintendo is gonna start allowing cloud games. They need to make some massive changes. The whole launch portal is trash, and needs to be removed. Launching a cloud game need to be as seamless as launching a native game... Look at xCloud and Stadia.
They also need to change the cloud provider. What ever hardware that Ubitus is hosting these games isn't the greatest. I tried playing the cloud version of Control, and the first load screen took way to long, like it was loading data from HDD.
The trials are way too short, and only being able to try the trial once isn't good.
If Nintendo is gonna continue to panther with Nvidia. Granted I was playing Control in handheld, so the 720p resolution didn't help.. But the game didn't look any better than someone $200 PS4. They need to find a way to bring GeForce Now to the platform. That should allow them access to top of line hardware configurations with all the bells and whistles like Ray Tracing... etc.
@Tendogamerxxx Some time you do need to blame the developers.
If you don't put some blame back on them. Then you create a mentality that it always the hardwares fault. And you get situations where developers just blame gamer's crappy hardware, and don't put time into optimization.
@jtmnm Microsoft only listened cause the Xbox One is still selling like garbage... They couldn't afford bad PR going to the next generation when the PS5 is already outselling them.
Why listen when your console is the best sell console for 33 months straight, and basically riding the coat tails of the PS4 in term of sales.
@-wc- Both the DS and 3DS was not the most powerful handheld at the time. That award goes to PSP and Vita. The only reason the Switch is most powerful handheld is cause it had no competition... If we had gotten a Vita 2. It would have probably out paced the Switch due Sony probably trying to make a decent side system to the PS5 and PS4 Pro.
Every one keeps mentioning Age of Calamity running like trash... But fail to mention that all of Omega Force games generally don't run well on any platform.

Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Version 1.3.0 Is Now Available - Wave 2 DLC, Adjustments, Fixes And More
@Tendogamerxxx Consider past Omega Force games aren't known for having the greatest of framerate on any consoles... I definitely think the developers are the one to blame, and not the hardware.
Re: Out Now: Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cloud Version Is Out, But Try The Demo First
I'm all for cloud gaming where it make sense.
That should allow them access to top of line hardware configurations with all the bells and whistles like Ray Tracing... etc.
Re: Out Now: Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cloud Version Is Out, But Try The Demo First
@Tendogamerxxx Some time you do need to blame the developers.
If you don't put some blame back on them. Then you create a mentality that it always the hardwares fault. And you get situations where developers just blame gamer's crappy hardware, and don't put time into optimization.
Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 13.1.0 Is Now Live - Adds The Switch Online Expansion Pack
Re: "I Don't Think The Switch Needs A More Powerful Version" Says 'World War Z' Lead Designer
Re: "I Don't Think The Switch Needs A More Powerful Version" Says 'World War Z' Lead Designer
Every one keeps mentioning Age of Calamity running like trash... But fail to mention that all of Omega Force games generally don't run well on any platform.
