Why do you default to blaming the victim and siding with a potential sexual predator?
I feel like this is going to go down in history as another one of those infamous tales of cinema flops, like how John Carter was in development since the 1930s and Waterworld was, at the time, the most expensive movie ever made, only to have both movies completely bomb. And then the Sonic movie made the absurd decision to basically re-do their entire movie because a bunch of nerds on the internet complained about Sonic's eyes and teeth, only for the movie to completely bomb and lose a historic amount of money in comparison to its budget.
I hope this isn't the case, but it could very well happen.
The comment sections on any Smash-related Youtube video are so embarrassing. Here's my favorite gem:
"Thank you Mr. Sakurai!!!! You give us so much and we respect you so much for it! Please don't push yourself too hard. Thank you for this update, now please rest well. You deserve it and surely need it!"
The way Sakuraidolizers talk about the man (and heck, the way he talks about himself), you'd think that he was physically building these characters in a mine shaft, carving them out of stone with a butter knife.
The guy sits down at a laptop, writes a character treatment, then points at his developers and tells them to write lines of code.
"Sorry, the Re-enactment Dad character was just not feasible as we could not think of an interesting moveset to satisfy fans. Please accept this sword-fighter from Fire Emblem 19 and their female echo as compensation. They should feel instantly familiar and comfortable as their moveset is identical to Marth's except their Up + A attack has a critical hit chance!"
I appreciate the service Limited Run Games provides and have been happy with the overall experiences I've had with each successful transaction, but I have to say that they have **THE WORST** system in place for buying Collector's Editions. The last few times I've bothered to attempt to get a Collector's Edition, the item has sold out within seconds, often WHILE IT WAS IN MY CART. I have no idea why so many online storefronts don't give their customers a limited amount of time to keep an item in your cart while you're checking out.
It's like if I went to Best Buy and was standing in line with the last copy of a game in my hand, then the person in front of me turned around, took the game out of my hand and then purchased it themselves. It's ridiculous.
Good thing Nintendo's picking the DLC characters. If it was up to Sakurai, we'd be seeing the code names "FEsword1", "FEsword2", "FEsword3", "FEsword4" and "FEsword1Echo".
> since Bayonetta did indeed win the fighter ballot among feasable characters
She allegedly won the poll 'in Europe' but not in North America OR Japan. And data-miners had uncovered that they had ALREADY added a character slot for her before the polls even closed. So... there goes that lie of Sakurai's.
And following along with the "among feasable characters" excuse... I suppose we're just supposed to believe that King K. Rool, Ridley and Simon Belmont (who all received top votes on the Smash ballots) took Sakurai 4 years to think of movesets in order for them to be "feasable" and finally added?
I mean, if you want to believe anything Sakurai says, then more power to you, but the guy is definitely not transparent and honest. He just does whatever he wants and makes up an excuse later.
Oh yeah, he's said he was a big fan, but he's never put that forth as a reason for there being so many Fire Emblem clone characters in favor of others that fans have actually been requesting. Case in point, Corrin. He talked about how much the fans wanted Corrin in the game (while Corrin has/had fans, it wasn't to the extent of most of the truly fan-requested characters) which was false.
I will give him the fact that Corrin at least plays a little differently than the Marth/Lucina/Roy/Ike/Chrome clone character, though.
I just value transparency. I'd certainly respect answers like "I'm just obsessed and I wanted to put this character in", or "we wanted to promote the ____ game", or "we got drunk at our brainstorming meeting and wrote 'Piranha Plant' on the whiteboard".
Sure, I don't disagree at all. I just think his excuse for including her was utter BS. Especially given the fact that the fan polls showed King K. Rool, Ridley, Bomberman and Simon Belmont as more popular than her. Even worse for Sakurai is the fact that they eventually did add three of them to the game, so his argument that they "were't fully realizable" and "couldn't think of interesting movesets for them" doesn't hold water. And of course the smoking gun that data-mining showed Bayonetta's character slot was added very early into the ballot.
Just be honest with us, it's pretty simple. I'd have a lot more respect for him if he said "I'm obsessed with Fire Emblem so I put more FE characters in the game" rather than "oh, well, fans were requesting all these clones with swords and I just don't know how Simon Belmont could be an interesting character!"
Just once, I want to hear an honest interview from Sakurai. I don't appreciate how he's always making up lame excuses to simple questions.
Q: "With the DLC poll closed, Bayonetta was a surprising inclusion given that dozens and dozens of fan-run polls have shown her to be consistently low on the list of favorites to win. Why did you include her?"
Sakurai: "Well, you have to understand that we can only put in characters who we can think of unique and interesting moves for."
Q: "Then why did you include Lucina who is basically an echo of Marth? You couldn't think of any interesting moves for Simon Belmont?"
Sakurai: "... I'm... I've been working so hard. I'm too tired! No more questions!"
Because the majority of Smash Bros fans have a weird, gross, idolization of Sakurai and will praise anything he does, even if it's wasting time creating characters nobody asked for like Piranha Plant and Fire Emblem Clone #56. There's such an extraordinary variety of characters and mascots from not only Nintendo's history, but other 3rd party publishers and it's a shame we don't see more variety.
@Yorumi Retro game collector here. You must have gotten some great deals, because those are outliers, not the norm in terms of pricing. Especially if you add a manual and a nice clean label to those. @3rdParty is correct, your "norm" pricing is quite off.
For the amount of people who are bragging about ripping off Nintendo by organizing a "family account" with 5 friends and paying next to nothing for their online service, they're sure acting pretty entitled about what they feel they "deserve" for free as part of their membership.
Nintendo Online is already cheap as dirt. Why are you whining?
"Nintendo has already decided who the DLC characters will be. I had nothing to do with it! They just so happened to select:
Lupus the sword-fighter from Fire Emblem 19 Fauntleroy the sword-fighter from Fire Emblem DX6 Bart-Bart the sword-fighter from Fire Emblem x Fire Album Wicker the sword-wielding mage from Fire Emblem Furry Edition Ducky & Dicky the twin sword-fighters from Fire Emblem x Golden Sun Lakitu's Cloud from the Super Mario series
I had nothing to do with these! honest! I mean, I don't even like sword-fighters or Fire Emblem!"
@JuiceMan_V You know who the worst members of the Smash community are? The people who call the other members "ungrateful" for daring to be disappointed by certain aspects of the game.
Do I think the Piranha Plant character is dumb and a monumental let-down? Absolutely. Am I still excited to play Smash for all of things about it that I do like? Absolutely.
Same here. Writing off complaints as people being "entitled whiners" is ridiculous. We're allowed to be disappointed by disappointing content. Piranha Plant, while funny, is a dumb character and a waste of development time.
Dracula is treated as an "encounter" much like a stage hazard. Traditionally, a "boss" would be a dedicated enemy that you would face at the end of a stage. Until we get confirmation that he appears every time as the final encounter in this stage, then I don't think he can be called a boss at this point. You're right as the facts currently stand.
He's worked on 4 games in the last decade. This is another thing that amuses me about Sakurai fanboys. They consistently praise how "hard he works". He's the director of Smash Bros. He doesn't do hands-on development with it. Every interview we get from Sakurai has at least one instance of him complaining about how "tired" he is directing one video game every 2.5 years. It's ironic that people talk about "whiners" in defense of Sakurai.
And as he has admitted, at the end of the day, we get a game that he wanted. So he "works tirelessly" on a pet project every 2.5 years and he occasionally throws fans a bone by putting some characters in that they like. But ultimately, he's just making a game that he wants to play. I mean again, I'm not passionately pro or anti Sakurai, but let's bring things back to reality and away from emotion for a minute.
I always cringe so hard when people say "you should be happy Sakurai gave us _____. He made the game he wants. At least he gave the fans ____."
As if to suggest that Sakurai is being kind in letting us play with his personal toy. The job of a game developer/designer is to create games that please people and make them want to buy it. If his games didn't sell, he wouldn't have a job. So it's hard to take these arguments seriously when people say "so what if he doesn't cater to the fans?" Isn't that literally what you're supposed to do? It's not "entitlement" to be disappointed when you have been asking for a particular character for a decade only for them to be shoved aside in favor or a troll character, or another Sakurai-chosen sword fighter.
When you really think about it, it's actually quite selfish if he's only in it to make a game that he wants to make at this point in the Smash Bros. franchise.
Calm down, Sakurai zealots. I think the game is going to be great and am looking forward to it, I just think we need to have a reality check sometimes. The Sakurai-worship is unsettling.
I think the real question we should all be asking is - when they announce the DLC characters, should we be placing bets on whether or not Sakurai can resist having a Waluigi-shaped shadow that turns out to actually be some D-level sword-wielding character named Fauntleroy from a relatively obscure Japanese RPG?
Oh, I have no problem whatsoever with crazy left field characters, but I think the ones you included highlight the problem with choosing Piranha Plant.
R.O.B., Game and Watch and Wii Fit Trainer all have some sort of significance in Nintendo's history. To try to apply that same logic to Piranha Plant would be disingenuous. It's literally just a minor enemy from Mario games. Heck, it would have been more significant to select a Koopa turtle given that they were in the very first Mario Bros. game.
His moveset looks fine and I'm sure he'll be fun to play as, but you could really make a good moveset out of any character. That's kind of the issue. It's not like you couldn't think of a ton of fun moves for any other character, really. I mean, I don't care enough about this to be riled up or anything, this is just stating what I think about the character. It just feels like an intentional troll to the fans.
I didn't have any extra characters that I was really hanging on for, or looking forward to, so this isn't coming from a place of being salty - but I can't even begin to understand why they wasted a character spot on Piranha Plant. I mean yeah, it's "funny" and "different", but it really just feels like a kdjkdndbfjcove to bother developing such a nondescript character for seemingly no reason. There are a ton of other viable characters from any Nintendo franchise that would have been more satisfying. I'm not a Waluigi fanboy so I don't personally care about whether he is included or not, but you'd think that if the fans were demanding something so hard for so long, you would want to please them rather than troll them. It feels intentionally spiteful. At the end of the day, it's really just an underwhelming choice of a character.
I can't wait to see all of the awesome lists full of fan-favorite characters with unique, diverse movesets who would fit in perfectly in the Smash Bros franchise...
Only to have Sakurai throw them all out in favor of 62 more Fire Emblem characters that nobody asked for.
"His name is Bertil Valley, and he sadly passed away in 2004."
SADLY? Phalanx was released in 1991 and in that cover photo, Bertil looked to be about 86 years old. By the time he passed in 2004, he would have been like 99 years old. I think he lived a good, long life.

You don't have a single clue what you are talking about and you just proved it here. There are no absolutely no facts to back up your claim that Obama hurt the economy. If you do, by all means provide them. Because every source I have ever read has shown a positive impact of his economy and how he pulled America out of another Republican Slump.
America's credibility financially and reputation-wise was massively improved under Obama. You can look at any poll from any source that will show you the opinions of other nations regarding America under Obama (positive) and under Trump (negative).
What is so hilariously ironic about the nonsense you just posted is that you just perfectly described TRUMP'S presidency.
Seriously though, if you want to make a case out of it, please provide me with statistics, data and facts to back up your claims. Otherwise all you have to stand on is "racial tensions" and "divided the country", which, in your racism-speak, means that Obama's presidency made it difficult for racists like yourself to be openly racist without repercussions.
Exactly. The reason that I assume the worst of Conservatives is because of the fact that they have given me absolutely no reason to think otherwise. I've been arguing about this stuff since before Trump was even a presidential candidate. Conservatives talk about what a "mess" Obama made of the country. But when presented with the cold, hard, facts that PROVE he actually improved the country in almost every single measurable way and managed to drag it out of the downturn that Bush put it into, they just claim it's "fake news" or that I'm "getting the facts from liberal sources" or some other nonsense.
So then I ask them to clarify exactly what it is that Obama did that was bad. And they immediately turn to some whataboutism or randomly bring up Hillary Clinton as if she had anything to do with the conversation. The only argument I've seen them make is complaints about how the US has "become too PC", which is a dog whistle for the fact that America was making a lot of progress and rightfully telling racists and homophobes that it was bad to use the N word and to use gay slurs. Conservatives are mad that their "right" to be an asshole has been "trampled on". And further to that, their next point will be some nonsense about "migrants" or "rapefugees" or "black lives matter".
So given what limited information I've been provided and the fact that it's all skewed towards racism, what else am I supposed to take away from it? If modern day Republicans don't like being called hateful, racist, anti-intellectual bigots, then they need to give me a reason to think otherwise. It's not my job to try to understand their point of view if they can't even clarify one.
No, I'm not black. I'm just tired of Right-Wingers/Conservatives pretending to care about the oppressed and less fortunate while at the same time doing everything in their power to retain the status quo. I don't let them ģet away with making excuses for their bigotry and racism. I believe everyone should have equal rights and that we should never go backwards after making so much progress.
I'm a straight, white male. According to Trump supporters, I should feel super oppressed and unfairly disadvantaged. That's seriously what they believe.
See? I TOLD you it was because a black man became president.
"Why does everyone call Trump supporters racist? We're just angry that a black man became president and a black man is daring to protest racial discrimination and black people want to stop being profiled by police and that black people want to be able to have an easier ability to vote! These uppity blacks need to sit down, shut up and know their place!"
"#makeamericagreatagain was a stupid slogan to begin with because it implies America wasn't great in the first place."
That's where you fundamentally don't understand the views of the Right-Wing.
To them, America stopped being great when women were starting to be treated as equals to men and were allowed to have their own opinions and control over their own bodies. The biggest blow to them came when a black man became president, because for years, Conservatives have had to be FORCED to allow minorities to be given equal rights and fair treatment. They always start with the whole "herp derp duh Democrats started the KKK!" nonsense. And yet when you look at the Civil Rights movement, the abolishment of slavery, the Suffragette movement, etc.. who is always on the WRONG side of history, refusing to allow the oppressed to have rights?
Conservatives.
"Make America Great Again" is just a more politically correct (oh, the irony) way of saying "Make America White again" or "Make America the 1950s Again".

Re: Soapbox: That Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct; Let's Talk About It
I always cringe so hard when people say "you should be happy Sakurai gave us _____.
Re: Soapbox: That Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct; Let's Talk About It
I think the real question we should all be asking is - when they announce the DLC characters, should we be placing bets on whether or not Sakurai can resist having a Waluigi-shaped shadow that turns out to actually be some D-level sword-wielding character named Fauntleroy from a relatively obscure Japanese RPG?
Re: Soapbox: That Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct; Let's Talk About It
@Frenean
Re: Soapbox: That Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct; Let's Talk About It
I didn't have any extra characters that I was really hanging on for, or looking forward to, so this isn't coming from a place of being salty - but I can't even begin to understand why they wasted a character spot on Piranha Plant.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Fans Are Harassing Masahiro Sakurai Over Waluigi Snub
Just be glad Sakurai managed to restrain himself from adding 15 new Fire Emblem sword fighters nobody cares about.
Re: Review: Animal Super Squad (Switch eShop)
Probably wasn't a smart idea for the developers to team with up with an Alt-Rightard.
Re: Random: Join Us As We Do Our Best To Guess The Super Smash Bros. For Switch Roster
I can't wait to see all of the awesome lists full of fan-favorite characters with unique, diverse movesets who would fit in perfectly in the Smash Bros franchise...
Only to have Sakurai throw them all out in favor of 62 more Fire Emblem characters that nobody asked for.
Re: Random: Here's Why SNES Shooter Phalanx Had That Weird Banjo Guy On Its Cover
"His name is Bertil Valley, and he sadly passed away in 2004."
SADLY? Phalanx was released in 1991 and in that cover photo, Bertil looked to be about 86 years old. By the time he passed in 2004, he would have been like 99 years old. I think he lived a good, long life.

@brandonbwii
Yeah, why are Trump supporters so violently angry about eliminating Nazis and the KKK from America? Why are they trying to stop this from happening?

Republicans:
Anti-women
Anti-gay

Anti-abortion
Pro death penalty

Weird how their values align, huh? I'm not sure you can say the same for Democrats who are pro-choice, pro-women, pro-minorities, pro-immigration, pro-science, pro-technology, aren't religious zealots, etc...
Re: NSFW: Wolfenstein II's Launch Trailer Shows The Many Ways To Skin A Nazi
@SeriousSam
You literally have zero credibility thanks to your insane, unhinged post full of misleading and quite frankly, blatantly false information.
The most egregious example is this:
" a Hillary supporter shot up that Republican basketball game"
The Right-Wing dingbat websites have actually claimed that he was a BERNIE supporter and he shot up a BASEBALL game, not a basketball game.
Maybe you need to start learning how to use Google and stop visiting the crazy Breitbart and Infowars fake news sites.
I mean, unless you are posting as a parody of a typical Right-Wing conspiracy theorist, then in that case, you've done a bang-up job.
Re: NSFW: Wolfenstein II's Launch Trailer Shows The Many Ways To Skin A Nazi
@AlternateButtons
Re: NSFW: Wolfenstein II's Launch Trailer Shows The Many Ways To Skin A Nazi
@brandonbwii
Re: NSFW: Wolfenstein II's Launch Trailer Shows The Many Ways To Skin A Nazi
@brandonbwii
Re: NSFW: Wolfenstein II's Launch Trailer Shows The Many Ways To Skin A Nazi
Totally not racist though.
Re: NSFW: Wolfenstein II's Launch Trailer Shows The Many Ways To Skin A Nazi
@brandonbwii
