Deep cut- I remember composing the LM theme on my Nokia 3310 & it was my ringtone for ages. Loved it and LM2. Give LM 1 a few months breathing space on 3DS and then a double pack for switch to get hyped for the third one would be lovely.
Hi guys. Your “Man in Japan” here. I just wanted to say thank you for your messages of understanding and support. The typhoon devastated Fukuoka/ Kyoto/ Osaka and surrounding areas. The earthquake in Hokkaido this morning was truly horrendous. It is a very difficult time, but hopefully things will get better and we can look forward to the direct in due course.
As I've been in Japan (and Tokyo) for a while now, I've got no idea how prominent Nintendos presence is around the world but rest assured, I'll take lots of pictures for you all to enjoy in the coming weeks/ months!
I've just had my first anniversary writing for this website. I really enjoy writing, I’m always trying to improve my style/ accuracy, strive to produce more original content and get developer interviews. It's certainly been a learning experience, but the audience and the NL team are so supportive. Cheers!
Mario Kart 8D is amazing. I honestly can't imagine how it could look better or have another gameplay hook. That being said, there are possibilities. More tracks based on new franchises, a Diddy Kong racing style adventure/ mission mode, an F- Zero last kart driving/ battle royale mode (which is crazy popular atm) or #bringbackblockfort.
@Alto now, the controller being the console is really interesting. Make it USB, so it can go via a cable in to a N64 shaped multi (four port) USB hub then HDMI to the TV and you could be on to something...
It's just as cool to see what people come up with as it is a catalyst to see what is possible. Just as labo is ’merely’ cardboard, it's inputs of motion and IR combined with the outputs of rumble, sound and light show real potential. Hopefully new sets, tweaks and updates, along with new programming ability will continue momentum.
@invictus4000 if you're Just looking for somewhere to chill and play retro games and not bothered about the decor, try here. There's an entrance charge but then soft drinks and snacks are free. Tokyo Game Bar

@Heavyarms55 For a few reasons. There aren’t enough hours in the day to find every great artist out there (I wish there were!) second, I felt there were enough pieces to warrant a feature and third, it was an interesting idea I hadn’t seen done as well as this before. As far as I'm aware, our Facebook page recently called out for artists/ artwork to be shared. I personally try my best to find interesting stuff, and I will continue to do so.
@smyr completly agree. I think they are great games in their own right, would suit the platform perfectly and would warrant/ and deserve new content for a new audience.
To be clear, the number that I decided on for my review reflects how I feel about the game, not the price. I'm not disputing that is good value, or better value than most other games in its price range, and some may enjoy the grind and various other elements a bit more than I did, but for me I can't add an extra point and say that it is a 'good' game based on the asking price alone.
@Nincompoop they are completely different games, and yes, breath of the wild was as personally impactful to me as Celeste. Don't look at it as 'dethroning'. I reviewed BOTW as well (not for NL) and I can explain the differences both technically and thematically. BOTW was reviewed last March by a different reviewer.
Great piece. It makes me sad that some of the best Nintendo first and third party IP (I'm looking at you, Konami) are in no mans land, but there are new devs and titles all the time to keep things going. It is still mental to think that there are games that only started development when the Switch launched which are still a way away. Housemarque (resogun and NEX machina) stated their disappointment with recent sales. If starfox needs a few years to get another crack at an epic on rails shooter, I'd love to see a smaller twin stick game in the lylat system from them. I'm amazed Nintendo didn't step in with scalebound. It's clear that the Switch is doing numbers that will justify third party exclusives, it's time for consumers to be patient and Nintendo to carry on with what they've started.
I'd be happy with a load of smaller games and save Metroid/ Smash for E3. A box boy collection, Captain Toad's treasure tracker sequel, Yoshi, Kirby, Runbow, along with Wolfenstein and maybe another R* or Capcom port.
@KeeperBvK What I am writing, I mean honestly and sincerely. I can definitely not call myself a perfectionist, but I am incredibly hard on myself when I make mistakes. I made a lot of grammatical errors in this review, and I should have taken extra care to proof read it myself, and not relied on my editors. My personal circumstances notwithstanding, I will take extra care in the future. Please accept this as an acknowledgement of my mistakes, gratitude for your constructive criticism and a sincere apology.
I'd like to see kid Icarus uprising get a second chance with 'proper' twin stick controls. I sincerely hope we don't get an N64 mini/ VC- some of the games just don't hold up that well. OOT and Starfox 3D show what they can look like, but on a HD TV, that don't look good. Now, if Mario 64 was remastered to look like spoiler from you know what, I'd buy it for a fifth time in a heartbeat. Three quick wishes- captain toads treasure tracker sequel, box boy collection and a super paper Mario sequel. Just no more themed joy cons, I'm having a hard enough time resisting them as it is!
Personally, it's more of a statement that there was such a short turnaround from announcement to release. This surely highlights how much more user friendly the Switch is to develop for or port to. Of course, the mandatory download stuff is frustrating, but as this is an attempt in such a short period of time and a sign of things to come, both from a technical and developer standpoint, it's pretty cool. Shrugging off these ports of AAA games (including skyrim and LA Noire) is detracting from the fact that it not only is showing how powerful the Switch is, but that it is also the first time to have games of this caliber (not to mention BOTW and Odyssey) on a handheld. I play my Switch 85% of the time on the go- seeing these games on this thing and transferring so easily to the TV is some kind of witchcraft. I'd still like to see a few smaller games like device 6, volume and repulique appear, but if games like bayonetta 2 get a second chance and current gen games like wolfenstein 2 are possible and not gimped, a lot more is possible than I first thought.
@keeperBvK @Twinder @Azikira I want to sincerely apologize for any offense caused by the wrong date that was put in the review regarding when You Don't know Jack was first released. I will do everything in my power to get this rectified and it won't happen again.

As perfect as it is for vertical shooters, I would get it for mudd blocks and Downwell more, but that's just preference.
