Re: Nicalis: We'd Like To Support Europe, But Nintendo Doesn't Make The Process Easy

DualWielding

@KittenKoder

Age ratings have nothing to do with region locked, that's just the excuse NIntendo likes to give..... You know U.S, Canada, Mexico, and all latin american countries in the NTSC region also have different rating boards......

In fact the main reason this is a problem for digital games is Nintendo's region lock, in the PS3 or 360 you can just change the region of your console and download whatever you want.... You may need to find foreign cash cards if the region you want to buy from does not support international credit cards but that's still easier than with Nintendo because Sony and Microsoft allow retailers to sell cards digitally unlike Nintendo...

Re: Nintendo Still Seeking a Product to Define the GamePad, With Hopes of Sales Driving Third-Party Support

DualWielding

third party support won't come to the Wii U, yah it'll get skylanders and lego and just dance and shovelweare movie tie-ins but more than that.... nope.... and unlike the 3DS localizing Japanese games is not an option... at least I haven't heard of any amazing Wii U third party exclusives that are selling millions in Japan and are just waiting for localization likek is the case of Fantasy Life, ect.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Dedicated Development Team for Smart Device Services

@Baum897

Actually yes, having an account system is something Nintendo could do in a couple weeks if they want....they have all the infrastructure, the NNID is actually an account system.... the only thing holding them back is that they want people to send the systems back to them as evidence that the users are not trying to doubling their games by cheating the system...... the technical part is mostly done, Iwata stuborness was the isseu

Re: Talking Point: Is There A Future For The Wii U Without The GamePad?

DualWielding

yes a Wii U sans gamepad should be released along with Super Smash Bros at a 199.99 price. Smash Bros is a poster child for why gamepad is a bad idea..... It can't be used for anything gameplay related becaue the game is oriented toward local multiplayer and out of 4 players only one would have a gamepad..... second if two friends buy Wii U for smash bros and want to get toguether and play like old times, they can't each bring the gamepad they got with their console, one has to go and buy and additional controller..... 3 people who may be interested in buying Wii u for Smash Bros may be put off by the idea that they are paying extra for the gamepad which is irrelevant and even detrimental to the game they care about

@FantasiaWHT

It is but I can live with that as long as there is some story and character interaction in this and is not only dungeon crawling...... apparently there is indeed some sort of story as we have been shown dialogue scenes, if that is the case then I'm buying

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's 'Relevance' Is About Sales, Nintendo's Strategy Has Remained Consistent

DualWielding

@Williaint

Better is subjective but I don't think it can be argued that PS3 lineup of exclusives is more varied:

Wii U exclusives this year:

3D World
Wind Waker HD
Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
Wii Party U
Game and Wario
Sonic Lost World
Wii Sports Club (Bowling and tennis)
Wii Fit U
Lego City Undercover

PS3 2013 exclusives

The Last of Us
Ni No Kuni
Pupeteer
Kingdom Hearts 1.5.
Beyond Two Souls
MLB the Show
Talex of Xillia
Gran Turismo 6
Saint Seiya Brave Soldiers

and I'm sure I'm missing some.....

While you can argue quality its clear the PS3 list is just more varied not only in the genres represented but in art styles (you get real looking, seinen anime style looking and cartoony while Nintendo is all cartoony) and story/gameplay ratio (some are story heavy others are pure gameplay while all Nintendo exclusives are gameplay only with no story or only excuse plot stories)

Of course its unfair to compare a console in its last year with one on its first year, but although I'm not completely familiar with Wii's exclusive lineups I doubt you can find that the Wii ever got such a diverse list of exclusives in a single year

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's 'Relevance' Is About Sales, Nintendo's Strategy Has Remained Consistent

DualWielding

@N64ever

I don't really get how people can claim Nintendo offers more diversity compared to the 360/PS3, they have diversity on the DS/3DS but the Wii/Wii U is basically platformers and party games and only one or two token titles for other genres.....

People talk about shooters and sports, but other genres are also were completely missing from the Wii, did the Wii get any 1 on 1 fighting games at all? what about Western RPGs (yah I know they are much better pc but apparently there are lot of people who want to play them on consoles), JRPGs? Wii got xenoblade but thats just one title (fire emblem is strategy rather than a traditional jrpg), What about Indy games? if you only had a Wii last gen you missed on stuff like Limbo, The Walking Dead, among many other;

and I could go on, Nintendo's library lacks variety because of no third party support and because Nintendo own first party lineup is not very diverse (compared to Sony's at least, not really familiar with Microsoft's first party lineup) and because some of Nintendo's title that add diversity to the lineup only come on handhelds (pokemon)

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's 'Relevance' Is About Sales, Nintendo's Strategy Has Remained Consistent

DualWielding

@Obito_Tennyson

Nintendo maybe is the masters of exclusives when it comes to handhelds but In home consoles Sony has a much better lineup as exclusives...... The PS3 already has a better list of exclusives than the Wii ever did and there are still a good number upcoming while the Wii is dead... if you only talk the present PS3 had much better exclusives than Wii U this year

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's 'Relevance' Is About Sales, Nintendo's Strategy Has Remained Consistent

DualWielding

Part of the Wii success was that Nintendo managed to fool a lot of people with it, but those that were fooled are the most reluctant to buy a Wii U... it was also helped by Sony's terrible strategy during the PS3 launch which motivated people who did not really trust Microsoft who had yet to have a real foot on the console market to give Nintendo another chance

Re: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata "Has Earned The Right To Fail", Says David Jaffe

DualWielding

@TheRealThanos

O.k I don't know if its Iwata personally that its making the bad calls, but its clear that Nintendo problem is in the administration the people actually designing the hardware and games are doing their jobs fine enough...

Launching the 3DS and Wii U with no games hoping their gimmicks would be enough to sell them is an administrative decisions you can't blame engineers or game designers for that...

Both consoles suffered from being severely overpriced at launch, again setting the price is an administrative decision.....

I'm pretty sure we could have stuff like region free and account system the next day if Iwata ordered it...

Re: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata "Has Earned The Right To Fail", Says David Jaffe

DualWielding

@Damo

The DS and the 3DS are not flukes...... the DS had a gimmick and his gimmick caught on just like the Wii, but unlike the Wii the DS was not only a gimmick, it was also a solid gaming machine with solid third party support and a more powerful GBA..... the 3DS is doing well despite its 3D gimmick not catching on because it is still a solid gaming machine with solid third party support and basically a better DS.....

Now what was the problem that Iwata got into the mentality of "gimmick sale consoles" the 3DS was failing in the beginning because it was launched with no games and Iwata was expecting it to sale only on the 3D gimmick.. fortunately for the 3DS and us who love it the games eventually came and things were turned around.....

and Iwata, not learning from his mistakes did the same thing with the Wii U, launched it with no games thinking the gamepad gimmick was gonna sell the console on its own...... It thought all it needed it was Nintendo land.... He failed to identify that what happened with the Wii and Wii sports was a one time lighting in a bottle kinda thing and really thought a gimmick and a tech demo was all he needed to sell a console.... and he has been proven wrong

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Wii U Struggles Bring a Challenge, Not Doom

DualWielding

yah that's what i've been saying from Day one, Wii U was gonna flop, 3DS would keep Nintendo in the black.... Nintendo can easily recover next gen but it needs someone willing to admit their mistakes and learn from them. Iwata is not that person.... Sony and Microsoft have proven able to learn from their mistakes and make corrections, Nintendo just hasn't

Re: Iwata Accepts Responsibility For Poor Financial Results, Ignores Calls To Resign

DualWielding

Iwata needs to go, as a consumer I want to see him go because I dont' think we'll ever get things like region free or account system as long as he is there. However form a business perspective he has proven incompetent. He was the one who made the ridiculous sales projection. That means that he either has completely loss touch with reality and really expected to sell 9 million Wii U or he doesn't understand business at all and thought announcing extravagant projections you have no chance of meeting is a sound business strategy. In either case he doesn't seem fit for the job

Re: Nintendo Confirms Major Reductions In Sales and Financial Projections

DualWielding

to be fair the 9 million target was always ridiculous, I don't think even the biggest Nintendo fanboys really thought it was possible to reach that number. The problem was that Nintendo, read Iwata established that target and kept insisting it would be met when everybody knew it was simply not possible. That shows the guy simply doesn't have his feet on the ground

Re: Here Are Some Monstrous eShop Discounts for North America

DualWielding

This is decent but far from what I would call monstrous, Nintendo eshop has by far the worst prices, and never have any real amazing sales... Forget about Steam, even the Playstation and Xbox stores kill it on prices, especially when you consider the lack of account system which mean Nintendo digital games offer less value (only playable on one system, risk losing them if something happen to your system) they should cost much less to make up for that but still they cost more

Re: Senran Kagura Is Bursting Onto European Store Shelves In February

DualWielding

for those wondering yes the game is worth it for its gameplay even if you don't like the fanservice, I'm really not into ecchi aesthetics but love this game because its simple as good as it gets for 2D beat em ups. Plus is nice for a change that all costumes and extras are unlockable through gaming instead of being sold to you at 0.99 or more the piece

Re: You'll Want To Check Out These New Senran Kagura 2 Screenshots

DualWielding

Senran Kagura Burst was amazing, one of the most underrated 3DS games in my opninion. my only worry for this sequel is that it may end up being light in content compared to burst which was basically two full games in one...... the $30 price tag was pretty reasonable for Burst amount of content but I wouldn't pay the same for something with only half the content.....

Re: A Third-Party "Secret Developer" Gives an Inside Story of Working on Wii U

DualWielding

It is clear that Nintendon't think about third party developers when developing their consoles, with the 3DS it doesn't matter because they are leaders of the handheld market and developers would come and game developing is cheaper for it meaning exclusives can be profitable... but for the Wii U where they are competing against other consoles and higher production cost mean only multiplats can be profitable their "build it and they will come" attitude towards third party developers just doesn't cut it

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th December (North America)

DualWielding

@JaxonH

Because it illustrates all that is wrong with Nintendo the point of cloud storage is that you don't have the risks associated with physical storage, but with pokemon bank you have the worst of both worlds you can't retrieve your pokemon without an internet connection but if you lose or break your system you can't retrieve them either because Pokemon Bank is tied to your system even if you already paid Nintendo in advance for one year of cloud storage.... the fact that Nintendo ties your digital games to the console is bad enough but that they would dare charge for a 'cloud' storage system that is also tied to your system is beyond ridiculous

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th December (North America)

DualWielding

I'll keep on saying it Pokemon Bank is the most pointless app ever and illustrates all that is wrong with Nintendo..... Charging for a Cloud storage service where access is tied to your system? Really..... I really, really, really would like to see Iwata come and try to justify that
