Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Network ID Creeps Ever Closer to Being Fit for the Modern Age

@eza

No they are not removing region locking, region locking remains for physical games and now they have an additional country locking for digital ones.... there are no words to describe how much they suck... Microsoft announce anti-consumer policies, customers backlash and they fix things, Nintendo has anti-consumer policy, customers backlash and they retaliate with even worst restrictions..... Nintendo fans are the most devoted of all and they really don't deserve to be treated like this

But do they? do they transfer them without you needing to send the system to then? if so then why can't they do the same for the 3DS after the NNID is included, I would not mind the new restrictions so much if they also came with the guarantee that I wont' lose my games if my 3DS breaks or gets stolen... the problem right now is that they are basically introduction new restrictions with no benefits except sharing balance with Wii U, which is pointless for those of us who don't ahve one..

How dare you call the i3DS ridiculous, I may give Nintendo stick because of their ridiculous anti-consumer policies but there's no denying in terms of a game library 3DS is the most epic console ever or at least that no other console ever came close to having such a great and varied library in just 2 years in the market...... Wii U on the other hand is just a box that happens to play mario

@PenCapChew

My concern is that this is a temporary measure to allow people that have balance in multiple countries eshop to spend it because it would be illegal for them to simply take the money away (I have no doubt they would have loved to do just that if it wouldn't have left them open to a law suit). They may eventually require nnid even for paid purchases... My other concern is that they said you won't require NNID for paid purchases but you'll require it for free apps and demos but it's not clear whether you'll require it to redeem download codes such as those you get from Club Nintendo.......

Honestly at this point I think Iwata and Reggie just sit down and decided they were tired of people complaining about MiiVerse on 3DS, region lock, account system and Youtube on 3DS and came up with plan to screw us all in one single move...

Come on Man how can you support this you are Australian, Aussies and Kiwis are among the people that are gonna be hit the hardest by this thing....

@Wolfgabe

What are you talking about Nintendo already has the servers in place, the cloud is there, all your information on balance, purchases ect is already on Nintendo servers... When your 3DS log into the eshop it accesses the club, the only problem is that instead of being a username and password you control the log in information the server checks for is a system id that is coded into the system (and not hardcoded since you can transfer it to other systems) the only problem is the policy decision by Nintendo not allow them to transfer the system id from one system to another without having both systems in the same place and working or to give us a portable id that we could use to log in from any 3DS instead of the system coded id..... Maybe there are coding issues involved I'm not a programmer so I don't know, but it's pretty clear that the physical infrastructure is already in place

@StrawHatChopper

Is this truth? what I've heard from everyone is that digital games are as tied to the Wii U as they are to the 3DS

@Gerbwmu at least with the 3DS you can only transfer if you have your 3DS and its working, if its not you lost all your investment.... and at least for me this region locking thing is a problem, I am from Panama, I was studying in the U.S. where I got my 3DS and now I'm living in Australia for further studies cuz I got a scholarship here, since my U.S. 3DS can't play Australian physical games I buy everything from eshop (Canadian eshop since I don't have a U.S. debit card anymore)...... Now if I want to set up a NNID I guess I could set it to Canada... the problem is that once you set an ID apparently you are locked to it forever or at least can't change it without losing your games and I don't know what future restrictions they'll apply to the Canadian store... now I hope to move back to the U.S. an maybe work there after I finish here in Australia in a years time if my NNID is tied to Canada I won't be able to change it back to the U.S. so if for example, they lock the Canadian eshop from accepting international credit cards, I"ll be screwed forever....... Now you can blame for trying to cheat the system but I don't think I'm doing anything wrong I just want to enjoy games in a console I legally purchased in one country while living in other countries for legitimate reasons and in the process I've given Nintendo lots of money... I don't see what's so wrong with that that Nintendo needs to go out of its way to try to close any loophole that would allow me to continue to GIVE THEM MY MONEY....... see how stupid that is?

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Network ID Creeps Ever Closer to Being Fit for the Modern Age

DualWielding

@StrawHatChopper

If he's Wii U would have been not working, stolen or not available for any other reasons then that called would have gone very differently that's the problem

Seriously I don't see how this is an step up, they are basically screwing 3DS customers they give you the ability to share balance which is meaningless to 3DS users who do not have Wii U (Statistically the majority of us) and give a half-baked mii verse which offers nothing that the browser version doesn't...... in exchange of that they take away from you the possibility of changing countries taking their already ridiculous region lock to new levels... Can't Nintendo understand the very simple concept that people sometimes do move around to different places even across regions...

Also I don't think account system is something they are working on and that this is a first step..... they could have account system tomorrow if they wanted, they just prefer to screw their loyal customers instead of taking the risk that someone could have the content in two systems if one of the systems never go online.....

@rjejr in the Vita IDs are tied to memory cards you can have one ID per memory card, granted this is still a problem because of the hyperexpensive Vita memory cards but it's still better than what NIntendo is planning to do which is one ID tied to the system forever

@Marshi

I would say call of duty is the most overbought series of all time, no doubt about that, but not necessarily the most overrated since it doesn't get that much critical praise..... Zelda on the other hand it always get critics gushing about it and I just don't see what's so great about it

Re: Guide: Using Nintendo Network ID On Your 3DS

DualWielding

now if I recall the direct correctly they said you would be able to buy paid stuff without a Nintendo Network ID so you can spend any balance you have so it won't be fully mandatory in the beginning but it still sucks that they would tie you to a country without possibility to change.....

Re: Video: Pitching a Wii U to Parents Requires Serious Production Values

DualWielding

@element187

Nintendo is not the largest publisher, they have actually admitted they are lacking in manpower to deal with the demands of HD development which require more work... Nintendo need to expand and lack of variety in their first party output is part of their problem, since they can't fill by themselves all the gaps in the console lineup that are left by the lack of third party support

Re: Video: Pitching a Wii U to Parents Requires Serious Production Values

DualWielding

This is one of Nintendo main problem at the moment, they expect children to bug their parents about getting them a video game console and that parents would buy the cheaper more family friendly over Xbone and PS4, the problem is that chidlren are not bugging their parents about video game consoles anymore, they are bugging them about tablets and smartphones...

Re: Long Awaited YouTube Application Coming To 3DS Later This Month

DualWielding

@GC-161

I know but there are lots of devices you can watch youtube on, being able to watch on 3D would be the added value of having youtube on your 3DS... As I always said while 3D does not really work for gaming, access to a constant stream of 3D video could be an important novelty factor increasing the appeal of the 3DS with the casual masses

Re: Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida Wants The Wii U To Succeed

DualWielding

Both Sony and Microsoft need Nintendo to hook kids onto gaming so they can become Sony and Microsoft gamers when they grow up, Nintendo losing kids to smartphone and tablets should be a huge concern for them, it would not likely affect them this generation but if kids not play Nintendo this generation Microsoft and Sony would feel it badly the next one

Re: Feature: Why Nintendo Isn't Popular in Poland

DualWielding

One factor that was not mentioned in the article is the lack of account system, in countries like these people recurr to digital because physical games are hard to find and when you find them are ridiculous expensive but if your consoles breaks and you are in a country where Nintendo has no operations you are screwed...,. That's what people not understand when they defend lack of account system with "just send your console to Nintendo, Nintendo costumer service people are so nice.." that only applies if you are in one of the main countries where Nintendo has operations

Re: Satoru Iwata Outlines Wii U Holiday Target Audience and Aim for a "Unique Approach"

DualWielding

the problem is the Wii U misses the price mark for the casual market of the Wii even after the price cut and the gamepdad just doesn't appeal to casuals the same way motion control did (I hated wii motes but I can't deny they were a great commercial success)

@Shade_Koopa the quality of first party titles is something subjective. Are you familiar with Sony and Microsoft's first party titles? I wasn't until rec'ently when I landed a PS Vita for cheap on ebay and then decided to buy a PS3 and have been exposed for the first time to Sony's first party lineup and I have found lots to like, just like with Nintendo not all their games appeal to me but several do and although I give Nintendo the historical benefit if we go only by the 7th gen not counting handhelds (PS3 vs Wii) I think Sony's first party support for the PS3 greatly outshadows what Nintendo did with the Wii quality wise (commercially there's no denying the mass appeal of Wii whatever titles but I just never found any of those titles appealing)
