Crisis Core is wonderful in many different ways. The battling was a bit weird, but the story and music were both moving. It really is a worthy prequel to FF7. The end of the game flows right into the beginning of FF7, so it is a treat to play Crisis Core then FF7 back to back. Really looking forward to this.
@EVIL-C I tried Triangle Strategy last night. It's well done. Good music, good mechanics, and well thought out. It's almost as if SE has a few divisions within them, some putting out excellence while others are tasked with quick budget games like Choco GP
All aspects of the game need changing, not just their approach to battle passes and mtx. Just about everything in this game screams of low quality, low effort, low budget. I was planning on pre-ordering this one as I'm a big SE and FF fan, but I'm glad I tried the lite version first and found how badly put together this game is.
@Friscobay I nearly quit at the tutorial too. No tutorial should ever completely restart the tutorial when you make the smallest of mistakes. Especially when the tutorial expects you to do things that it doesn't actually say (like continuing to hold A even after you boost at the start, and letting go of the left joystick after starting drifting). No hyperbole, this is the worst tutorial I've ever encountered.
Downloaded the lite version to give it a try and came away disliking it, and I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan. Mobile quality menus, poor quality music, the feel of racing is unpolished at best, and there seems to be a major lack of content. This game needs more development and better choices from the director.
I've also been playing for the last 6 years. Aside from the level cap update there hasn't been any significant content updates for years now. Someone who opened the game in 2019 vs now would be greeted to just about the same experience. I'm now way past burnout. I open the game every few weeks to see if there's anything truly new, but then close it again after catching a few of the same Pokemon I originally caught years ago.
Ehhhh... This game needs a lot of refinement. $5 is probably the appropriate price. The matchmaking should auto add you to the next available open public lobby instead of forcing you to select lobbies, getting a full message over and over. Reminds me of early 2000 PC matchmaking. It's also not a good sign when no one plays the game as intended (no one does tasks, just meetings over and over, etc..)
Hmmmm, the level cap increase is both exciting and disappointing at the same time. It's long overdue, but I was hoping they would have used XP+Medals to create an infinite level system. Basically each level from 40+ would need a flat amount of XP (3 mil lets say) + enough medal points. Each gold medal would be worth 10, silver 5, bronze 1. So 3mil XP + 40 medal points (for example) would level you up to 41. This would encourage players to try and perfect all the different aspects of the game (obtaining the medals), while allowing Niantic to always automatically update the level cap as they introduce new medals for new features.
The new mechanic s going to be interesting for a little bit, but then we'll get stuck at 50 like last time. It's also a bit lousy that those players with 60+mil xp and most of the medals will still be the same level as a new account that reached level 40 within a month or two of just doing raids.
Slowly but surely Niantic continues to sour the attitudes of nearly all Pokemon Go players except the most casual of casuals. Even whales are beginning to hate this game, but they will keep playing due to the addictive nature of it until they reach a sour breaking point. I do think Niantic is swiftly destroying this game and they don't realize it yet. It's going to be interesting once their revenue significantly drops and, only then, they will suddenly act like they care about improving the fun of the game.
Not a fan of most rogues. They aren't inherently bad, but since they rely on a short gameplay loop most of these titles become a bore after an hour or two. I loved Slay the Spire due to how mentally taxing it was, but could never get into Dead Cells or the other usually praised rogue games. This title though.. it is definitely a special one. Action like Diablo (without the loot), with so many ways of rewarding you. It takes the genre to the next level with the way it continues to progress the story and unlockables after every attempt. That itself would be a nice change, but the developer polished this title so well it is really mechanically stunning. I didn't expect to like this one, but I just can't stop playing it. Switch game of the year easily for me.
Looks good, but as always it will depend entirely on the game play and replayability. We do need more of these types of games though. It just takes a fun mechanic with challenging AI to generate some fun adrenaline.
No mention of input lag in the article. Looking around at other projects from this company I saw some user complaints in that regard. Was any input lag noticed in the review?
Those bemoaning the bad frame rates and bad graphics probably haven't played the original game. This is the only series I can think of that actually benefits from a poor presentation. There's an odd charm in seeing a character attempt a genuine smile that comes out as weirdly warped lips that barely resembles a smile. It adds to the charm of the B movie feel. The original game was incredible for it's story telling and bizarre characters. Glad to see the second is going to be more of the same.
The requirement of a new type of pass, 'On Sale' for an entry price of 100 coins really hurts my desire to keep playing. I've got a lot of paid raid passes in my inventory from before Covid hit, so it seems really low of Niantic to suddenly require you to spend money on a different pass for the same end product. I've spent a lot on this game, and gotten my value from it in the past, but this seems like a new level of low for a multi billion dollar company.
You don't usually see PSX era graphics nowadays. Usually it's either bad pixel art, or something resembling PS3/XB360. Almost seems like it would be extra effort to do the graphics seen here.
To all those non-vegetarians/vegans, don't think for a minute that PETA represents those communities. PETA is the absolute worst thing for the vegan community. Their only purpose seems to be to annoy everyone, telling people what to do, which causes the larger culture to get annoyed at vegans. I've been a vegetarian for nearly 20 years, and the world would be a much much much better place if PETA were to go away for good. The vegetarian & vegan lifestyle speaks for itself of the benefits, individually and beyond. We don't need some pushy front group going out of their way to act like entitled brats to the entire world.
Almost done with the game. It's definitely received more hate than it should have. It's not a great game, but aside from the graphics it's not truly bad in any way. The target audience is someone who just wants something to pick up and play for a half hour without much thought involved. Sit down, put on some music, and just play for a few minutes. It's repetitive and needs some polish, but it's not a 4/10. I'd say it's a 5-5.5 overall, and fine for someone who just wants a quick distraction.
Meanwhile I'm about 18 hours in, and on world 6. Great game, it provides a great workout if you prioritize exercises that wear you out instead of going for pure damage.
Picked this up a few days ago. I'm slightly disappointed at the roguelite approach of the game (this just artificially inflates game duration without adding much content), but the game is truly fun to play. Don't go into this one expecting a AAA title. The graphics are bad, the music is amateur, and there are long load times everywhere. Despite all that, the actual gameplay is fun and satisfying. Worth the asking price just for the fun factor alone (which really... what else matters?).
I actually agree with this review. I've always loved the Blitz games, especially "The League" (both 1 and 2). Since the last league game I've been wanting another Blitz style game and immediately picked this up. Unfortunately this one is just dull. Yes, it has a lot of trickery and over the top-ness to it, but the fun with that only lasted an hour or two for me. Once the novelty wore off I found that the core of the gameplay is just unsatisfying, and doesn't give any excitement.
Starlink regardless of the reviews. I've been craving a starfox-esque game, so I'm willing to give it a go regardless of what others will say in the reviews.
It's time for Dragon Force to make a comeback (and a translation for Dragon Force 2). Sega released it for PS2 a few years back, but it never gave it a western release.
Played the original for 2-3 hours but didn't quite understand it, and ended up moving on to other games I had at that moment. Can anyone explain what the hook(s) are for this game? Is it just for those that want to memorize every move an enemy makes over a lot of failures, just to beat said boss, or is there more to it?
@-Juice- I think there's a misunderstanding based on my poor wording. I'm not stating that the models/animations are originating from Pokemon go, only that they are intended to match Pokemon Go exactly.
Been playing since launch, and I can confirm we are getting a flood of newer players in my area. The game is thriving, and today another big update is dropping with Celebi research.
The game certainly isn't perfect, but it's the only game I know of that is engrossing with content specifically based on location. This makes mundane tasks like grocery shopping fun as you are always making progress regardless of what real life task you are doing. It's definitely my game between games, and probably will be for years to come.
Yep, hatch summed this one up. I don't think multiplayer would save it. The core gameplay already consists of multiple characters that help you in battle. Adding another player to control those characters for Co-Op would only add a small value of drawing enemy fire away from one of the players, making the missions slightly easier. Overall it wouldn't add enough to change the core gameplay in any meaningful way.
A versus/competitive multiplayer would be a different game mode, but probably wouldn't be that enjoyable. The pace in this game is slow, with slow moving characters and slow firing weapons. Two people facing off against eachother would just be two players dancing around slowly, exchanging fire that sometimes hits, sometimes doesn't.
Agreed with a 5 rating. I've put about 3 hours into it, and if I continue it will just be race to finish it as fast as I can so I can consider it beaten in my library.
This game screams of a mobile port, right down to the user menus. They are clunky and clearly intended for the touchscreen. Trying to use a controller in the menus is somehow confusing and irritating.
