@Tony Can't possibly imagine many true FF fans being particularly interested in today's event cause if you're a real Final Fantasy fan, how the hell is it possible that you don't own this game already. It's been re-released something like 6 times already...
I've always thought making a Magic Sword game in a Metroidvania style would work excellently. Also, of course, a Mega Man X sequel in SNES style would be amazing.
Being fairly familiar with fan translations in general I know full and well that those last 5% take up atleast 75% of the time spent... But good to see them chuckin along, wish them all the best.
@24: Just face it. It's never gonna happen. Either just switch your Wii's region to Australia at some point when you're on 0 points and then buy it there. Or just do what I did, buy the SNES cart...
It was a bit touch and go there for a while due to the new update but thanks to the extremely efficient homebrewing scene everything was solved and I'm now able to bring you the chart.

Too bad the first year anniversary didn't happen under better circumstances. Ever since the algorithm chance everything has been going crazy and quite a few good games left the chart this week. I'm almost starting to think that maybe it wasn't an algorithm chance at all, but instead someone happened to mistakenly hit the big reset button and nullified the logged sale number data. Not to fret though, considering the current chaos the good games are sure to bounce back before long. Most of the returnees of the last two weeks probably don't have a staying power longer than a few weeks. As a side note, impressive feat of Sexy Poker to reach 6th considering that at first it wasn't released at all and when it eventually was released a bit later than everything else it was buried good.
@Tony: Don't see how demos making some developers lose sales would be a bad thing. That obviously just means that the game wasn't very good and we don't want bad games to do well anyway. And also, like you said, others would most likely get more sales, the good ones, which is a good thing. All in all, demos are a win-win situation for everyone. Well, except for Nintendo's bandwidth costs.
Someone on NoE headquarters has seriously been fiddling around with the algoritm a bit too much in the past few days and now the chart movement makes no sense anymore. For example, this time last night Pokemon was at 12th, midday today it was 7th and now it's down to 12th again. There's no way that should happen, especially since it didn't even chart last week. How hard is it to just measure the number of sales for any given game within the last 7 days. Seriously NoE, just solve this and then stop messing about, it annoys me.
The Swedish top 20: (2) 1 - Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal (1) 2 - Contra ReBirth (4) 3 - Driift Mania (3) 4 - Family Slot Car Racing (6) 5 - Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (5) 6 - World Of Goo (8) 7 - Texas Hold'em Poker (19) 8 - Bonsai Barber (15) 9 - Onslaught (11) 10 - Mega Man 9 (10) 11 - LostWinds* (12) 12 - Bubble Bobble Plus! I'm feeling pretty sure the algorithm for calculating the "Popular Titles" just changed again cause for the past few days everything has been jumping all over the place in a rather chaotic way, however this time I can't really figure out how they've decided to do it. However it does seem like it's done over a shorter interval than before, possibly even shorter than a week... This is however only speculation... And in any case, it's not like I can do anything about it.
The Swedish top 20: (2) 1 - Contra ReBirth (1) 2 - Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal (3) 3 - Family Slot Car Racing (5) 4 - Driift Mania (4) 5 - World Of Goo (10) 6 - Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (15) 7 - Swords & Soldiers (11) 8 - Texas Hold'em Poker (12) 9 - Icarian: Kindred Spirits (20) 10 - LostWinds* (8) 11 - Mega Man 9 (17) 12 - Bubble Bobble Plus! Left the chart: (9) - - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Darklord (8w) (13) - - Bomberman Blast (49w)
Damn, just checked out Castle of Magic and god dammit, it looks awesome... So why the hell can't Gameloft release games like THAT on WiiWare. Why do we have to make do with only shovelcrap from them... Seriously, I demand that they port that over to the WiiWare before too long, you hear me Gameloft?
This has the potential to be one of the best games of this fall... I mean, all they have to do is just port Worms Armageddon, add online support and rankings and such and that should do it. Hopefully they won't end up screwing that up.
I'm pretty sure that's not a complete list. For example, Monkey Island 4 and 5 is nowhere to be seen and we all know those games are coming out in November and December respectively... And we all know how well NoE's list for Q2 turned out... However, I do agree that LiT nonappearance is kinda disconcerting, someone should pester NoE about that... And also the name change of Night Game makes me cranky, I really liked the novelty of having a name like that.
Impressive how fast they're churning these out... Although I guess technically Gradius ReBirth wouldn't be a "new" game per se. Still though, what's next one might wonder... Salamander? Twinbee? Goemon? Metal Gear? Or perhaps, if I'm allowed to hope, a new Axelay?
"Beginning next week, the WiiWare Top 20 will be put up on Wednesdays at 6pm CST" ... Managed to hold it together one tiny little week... That's almost sad...
The Swedish top 20 (from Wednesday as always): (1) 1 - Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal (-) 2 - Contra ReBirth (2) 3 - Family Slot Car Racing (5) 4 - World Of Goo (9) 5 - Driift Mania (11) 6 - Mr Driller W (3) 7 - Arkanoid Plus! (8) 8 - Mega Man 9 (6) 9 - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Darklord (7) 10 - Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (18) 11 - Texas Hold'em Poker (10) 12 - Icarian: Kindred Spirits (16) 13 - Bomberman Blast (4) 14 - Bit.Trip Core (15) 15 - Swords & Soldiers (13) 16 - Texas Hold'em Tournament (14) 17 - Bubble Bobble Plus! (17) 18 - Gradius Rebirth (12) 19 - Onslaught (R) 20 - LostWinds*
The performance of Monkey Island is really starting to scare me now. I mean, I knew that Guybrush and Co has a stronger standing in Sweden than pretty much anywhere else, but at this point it's first place performance is comparitive only to WoG and MM9. And also have in mind that the competition is much stiffer these days than it was during the other two title's reigns. And that's for an episodic game. It wouldn't surprise me if there are 5 episodes of Monkey Island all charting at the same time in November. Yikes...
Also, the fishes didn't make a quick return this week and it even let LostWinds go past it. Maybe that means it really is gone for good... Or maybe the LostWinds boost was just due to the sequel announcement.
@Sean Aaron: Well, it would be much funner if the arcade games released weren't always games that already are available on console, and even more so games that already are on the VC in some form or another. How about giving us something new... Or DoDonPachi... I'd be alright with that too.
@KnucklesSonic8 That would be the famed exception that confirms the rule. That game would also have extremely strong brand name pull to... Something the rest of them doesn't have to say the least.
When will people learn that any mini game collection, or even anything that looks like a mini game collection, will fail every time on WiiWare. Just look at Jungle Speed... Or F&FP... Or Picturebook Games... Or 3-2-1 Rattle Battle... It's just not happening, drop it already... Jeez...
Never been a fan of the run'n'gun genre really but it's a good game to get. Should be interesting to see whether it's Monkey Island Ch 2 or this that will make it to the top spot.
@XGen Yeah, cause having it leave the chart after 53 straight weeks? And what about the Swedish chart, it left the top 20 there 9 weeks ago even. That's just awful...
I wonder how Legendo would feel about those numbers though.
Say after me everyone! NO.MORE.FISH! Oh well, it'll probably return eventually but as far as I'm concerned this is a landmark moment.
The Swedish Top 20: (1) 1 - Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal (2) 2 - Family Slot Car Racing (9) 3 - Arkanoid Plus! No big surprises?! I'd call Protöthea a huge surprise. Not perhaps the kind of surprise I looked forward to but as far as it being surprising it's a huge shocker none the less and one that's unlikely to be topped any time soon.

And in any case, it's not like I can do anything about it.

Re: Nintendo of Europe Announces WiiWare and DSiWare Plans for the Rest of 2009
Damn, just checked out Castle of Magic and god dammit, it looks awesome... So why the hell can't Gameloft release games like THAT on WiiWare. Why do we have to make do with only shovelcrap from them... Seriously, I demand that they port that over to the WiiWare before too long, you hear me Gameloft?
Re: Worms: Battle Islands
This has the potential to be one of the best games of this fall... I mean, all they have to do is just port Worms Armageddon, add online support and rankings and such and that should do it. Hopefully they won't end up screwing that up.
Re: Nintendo of Europe Announces WiiWare and DSiWare Plans for the Rest of 2009
I'm pretty sure that's not a complete list.
Re: Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth Coming This Month
Impressive how fast they're churning these out... Although I guess technically Gradius ReBirth wouldn't be a "new" game per se. Still though, what's next one might wonder... Salamander? Twinbee? Goemon? Metal Gear? Or perhaps, if I'm allowed to hope, a new Axelay?
Re: Flowerworks "Coming Soon" To WiiWare
@jbrodack
What he said...
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (11th Sept)
"Beginning next week, the WiiWare Top 20 will be put up on Wednesdays at 6pm CST" ...
Managed to hold it together one tiny little week... That's almost sad...
The Swedish top 20 (from Wednesday as always):
(1) 1 - Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal
(-) 2 - Contra ReBirth
(2) 3 - Family Slot Car Racing
(5) 4 - World Of Goo
(9) 5 - Driift Mania
(11) 6 - Mr Driller W
(3) 7 - Arkanoid Plus!
(8) 8 - Mega Man 9
(6) 9 - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Darklord
(7) 10 - Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
(18) 11 - Texas Hold'em Poker
(10) 12 - Icarian: Kindred Spirits
(16) 13 - Bomberman Blast
(4) 14 - Bit.Trip Core
(15) 15 - Swords & Soldiers
(13) 16 - Texas Hold'em Tournament
(14) 17 - Bubble Bobble Plus!
(17) 18 - Gradius Rebirth
(12) 19 - Onslaught
(R) 20 - LostWinds*
Re: Nintendo Download: Rygar, Solomon's Key, Spaceball and Solitaire (EU)
@Sean Aaron:
Well, it would be much funner if the arcade games released weren't always games that already are available on console, and even more so games that already are on the VC in some form or another. How about giving us something new... Or DoDonPachi... I'd be alright with that too.
Re: Nintendo Download: Rygar, Solomon's Key, Spaceball and Solitaire (EU)
So... you're skipping the chart this week eh? Also, boring update, move along, nothing to see here.
Re: Interviews: Carnival King - Incredible Technologies
@KnucklesSonic8
That would be the famed exception that confirms the rule. That game would also have extremely strong brand name pull to... Something the rest of them doesn't have to say the least.
Re: Interviews: Carnival King - Incredible Technologies
@KnucklesSonic8
Which is why I added the "even anything that looks like a mini game collection" line...
Re: Interviews: Carnival King - Incredible Technologies
When will people learn that any mini game collection, or even anything that looks like a mini game collection, will fail every time on WiiWare. Just look at Jungle Speed... Or F&FP... Or Picturebook Games... Or 3-2-1 Rattle Battle... It's just not happening, drop it already... Jeez...
Re: Toribash Has Finished Development
Looks like Ballz... And it also looks like balls...
Re: Two New Hudson Titles Coming Soon
Just imagine if every major company focused as much on WiiWare as Konami/Hudson does... We'd have like 10 releases per week atleast.
Re: Contra is Reborn in Europe Tomorrow
What? Not even Monkey Island 2? That's surprising...
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (2nd Sept)
@NotEnoughGolds
Not true. In fact, Mega Man 9 has never been further down than 11th around these parts. Atleast not on a chart day.
Re: Contra is Reborn in Europe Tomorrow
Never been a fan of the run'n'gun genre really but it's a good game to get. Should be interesting to see whether it's Monkey Island Ch 2 or this that will make it to the top spot.
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (2nd Sept)
@XGen
Yeah, cause having it leave the chart after 53 straight weeks? And what about the Swedish chart, it left the top 20 there 9 weeks ago even. That's just awful...
I wonder how Legendo would feel about those numbers though.
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (2nd Sept)
@Supermarioman
Then you outta focus more on the Swedish chart...
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (2nd Sept)
Say after me everyone! NO.MORE.FISH! Oh well, it'll probably return eventually but as far as I'm concerned this is a landmark moment.
