It's time to take a look at the most popular WiiWare titles available on the Wii Shop Channel. If you're feeling adventurous you can even take a look for yourself by simply logging on to your Wii Shop Channel, heading into the WiiWare section and then viewing "Popular Games". It's that easy!
We compile this list using the USA region Wii Shop channel, so if you live elsewhere your list will probably be quite a bit different. Please feel free to post your region's findings below as always.
Keep in mind that the list below is a measure of actual sales made recently, not of the total time the game has been available for sale.

* [-] - Denotes a game that was not on the Top 20 last week
Well the fish might have dominated in recent weeks, but they couldn't hold off the Contra Rebirth assault this week. Now it will be interesting to see how long Contra Rebirth can hold onto the top spot.
Our big climber this week was Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 2, which rocketed up 13 places to #4. The big dropper this week was NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits, which continued its drop this week falling five spots to #16. Could this charming platformer be on its way off the chart?
Of course with the debut of Contra Rebirth, we did see Cue Sports - Pool Revolution drop off of the Top 20 this week.

Wait. Friday? After the official announcement of it having a definite time on Wednesdays? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEEEVE ;(.
It's definite time is "whenever they get around to it".
Holy crap. Great job, Contra!
Download NyxQuest or your not cool
Yeah, never put a new game in my hands on days when there's work to do. Bad idea. Sorry the Top 20's are late.
I think the Top 20 should be on Friday now. It gives the new games a chance to show up. I feel it's a little more accurate/fair.
Corbie just forgotten about the weekly Top 20, because he has been playing Mario & Luigi:Bowser's Inside Story. I knew it was going to be awesome, I can't wait to get my hands on my copy!
Nice to see that Contra ReBirth is number #1! It is a great game, and I'm glad to see the fish dethroned.
ok
I'll be having words with your surpervisor, Corbie...

Down: Texas Hold'em Tournament is losing ground. Unfortunately CORE took a slamming.
Hello: Contra, entering at 4.
Goodbye: NyxQuest, falling from 19 to the outer realms.
Started playing Contra ReBirth last night- it's not Contra 4, nor is it even 3, but still a hardcore game nonetheless.
Wow, I thought we were binning this!
Okay here's the Japanese goodness (retro since it's from Wednesday):

20 (N) Ghost Mansion
Farewell: Tomenasanner Wii, Dr. Mario & Germ Buster
Well, I'm frankly shocked. Not only is Pokemon no longer dominating the top of the charts (okay it's still 3 out of the top 5), but Discipline has rocketed into second. I think enough people were curious after that odd ad campaign that they had to check it out; how long this interest lasts remains to be seen. There is some hope that if it performs well we might see localisation and release overseas, but the implied mature themes of the game might prove a barrier and Pole's Big Adventure (Sega's WiiWare gift that keeps on giving and their biggest download title on Wii full-stop barring Puyo Puyo 2) hasn't been localised yet, so that might mean nothing...Room Escape is also in the top 5 which is also a surprise.
The appearance of the Eric Carle-themed children's game and Ghost Mansion (wow Gameloft breaking the top 20 in Japan!) means the end for Tomenasanner's novelty "one-button wai wai action" game and incredibly the evergreen Dr. Mario & Germ Buster has also fallen off the list.
And again just for fun, the VC top 20:
1 (1) Super Mario Bros. (FC)
2 (2) Super Mario Bros. 3 (FC)
3 (3) Puyo Puyo 2 (MD)
4 (4) Super Mario World (SFC)
5 (5) Downtown Special Kunio-Kun no Jidaigeki dayo Zenin Shuugoo (FC)
6 (6) Final Fantasy III (FC)
7 (8) Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask (N64)
8 (10) Super Mario Bros. 2 (FC)
9 (7) Final Fantasy IV (SFC)
10 (9) Super Mario Kart (SFC)
11 (11) Super Mario RPG (SFC)
12 (13) Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (N64)
13 (12) Mario Kart 64 (N64)
14 (15) Seiken Densetsu 2 (SFC)
15 (N) Xevious (ARC)
16 (16) Super Mario 64 (N64)
17 (14) Custom Robo V2 (N64)
18 (17) Downtown Nekketsu Kooshinkyoku Soreyuku Daiundookai (FC)
19 (18) Super Smash Bros (N64)
20 (20) Ice Climber (FC)
A bit of shuffling and Xevious breaks into the charts (could either Dragon Spirit or RYGAR follow?) knocking Ike lke! Nekketsu Hockey-bu out of action -- guess the love affair with Kunio Kun only goes so far...
Take that fish!

20) (-) - Defend your Castle
We welcome Contra Rebirth which came out last week and Defend your Castle which was released the 1st Aug of 2008.
With two new release, we say goodbye to:
TV Show King our biggest climber with four spots from 12 to 8. It's unbelieveable that Texas Hold'em Poker climbs with three spots from 8 last week to 5 now. So we got two poker games in the top 5, yeeee.
The big climbers from last week dropped down the list again. Swords & Soldiers fell seven spots from 7 to 14 and World of Goo dropped 5 spots from 6 to 11.
And you see XGen, just as predicted, Defend your Castle makes his way back in the top 20.
it has to be disheartening to spend so much time, energy and money, create a fantastic, well reviewed game and then see garbage like sexy poker outsell it week after week after week.
People are entitled to purchase whatever they want, but really! Anyone with an internet connection can play poker or see anime boobs whenever they want, for free.
Contra rebirth was #2 wednesday for the record
Hot damn. Was not expecting Contra ReBirth to do so amazingly well but way to go, Konami! A well-deserved #1 spot for a terrific game.
Why do you keep using the Contra 4 box art for Contra Rebirth? Rebirth deserves better!

(-) 20 Mr. Driller W
Put on a bus: Texas Hold'em Tournament (12), Bit Trip Core (19)
Monkey Island holds on, didn't know the series was that popular but I guess there's a reason Lucas Arts recently re-released their old games at retail. Contra joins high as expected from a hardcore game, as always it's the follow-up performance that will be important. Maybe it's more newbie-friendly design can make it a hit with the expanded audience as it's not a very complex game, just hard. Arkanoid's stay near the top was short, I guess the expanded audience just doesn't like breakout as much anymore. Overall a lot of shuffling.
Contra! Just go's to show that people with guns beat fish.
I'm disappointed that Mr. Driller didn't make the list. More people should check it out.
"Beginning next week, the WiiWare Top 20 will be put up on Wednesdays at 6pm CST" ...
Managed to hold it together one tiny little week... That's almost sad...
The Swedish top 20 (from Wednesday as always):
(1) 1 - Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal
(-) 2 - Contra ReBirth
(2) 3 - Family Slot Car Racing
(5) 4 - World Of Goo
(9) 5 - Driift Mania
(11) 6 - Mr Driller W
(3) 7 - Arkanoid Plus!
(8) 8 - Mega Man 9
(6) 9 - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Darklord
(7) 10 - Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
(18) 11 - Texas Hold'em Poker
(10) 12 - Icarian: Kindred Spirits
(16) 13 - Bomberman Blast
(4) 14 - Bit.Trip Core
(15) 15 - Swords & Soldiers
(13) 16 - Texas Hold'em Tournament
(14) 17 - Bubble Bobble Plus!
(17) 18 - Gradius Rebirth
(12) 19 - Onslaught
(R) 20 - LostWinds*
The performance of Monkey Island is really starting to scare me now. I mean, I knew that Guybrush and Co has a stronger standing in Sweden than pretty much anywhere else, but at this point it's first place performance is comparitive only to WoG and MM9. And also have in mind that the competition is much stiffer these days than it was during the other two title's reigns. And that's for an episodic game. It wouldn't surprise me if there are 5 episodes of Monkey Island all charting at the same time in November. Yikes...
Also, the fishes didn't make a quick return this week and it even let LostWinds go past it. Maybe that means it really is gone for good... Or maybe the LostWinds boost was just due to the sequel announcement.
Don't worry Djungelurban. It still is number one in Holland too. As an Adventure fan it's great to see an adventure game back at the top of the list again, but I've heard it had so many problems that it's weird it's still there.

By the way, Sean Aaron, I like this Top 20 VC "just for fun" thing. Would you mind if I do the same???
Contra, wow, I guess alot of people were bored on Labor Day...
Awesome. Deserves every download.
2009 has been a great year for the Wii...and there's still more to come!
It looks like Nintendo's decision to release Contra ReBirth on Labor Day really paid off! Also, more people should really be downloading Mr. Driller and NyxQuest because they are great games! It is such a shame that they aren't doing as well as games with fish and boobs.
If you like Reel Fishing Challenge more than NyxQuest, you fail at life.
Sorry. It just needed to be said.
Wow, it Contra beat the fish games :0
@Earendel68: wow, first time i see the mexican top 20 posted, hehe i think i contributed for contra
wow i knew contra would do good but never thought it would get to number 1 with out being out a week, but my fears is that it will fizzle out fast also
Good for you, vakama94, I think I'll download it too!!!! It's a classic.
Shouldn't Contra Rebirth have been the big climber, not tales of monkey island?
May I talk to your manager, Corbs?
Where is the Mr. Driller love in North America -- where? And et tu France? Well, at least the Northern Europeans can appreciate a good drilling game when they see one!
@Sean: When I see that damn poker game at the first place, if I were you I wouldn't refer too much to the French taste ^^
Maybe we might get another Contra down the road, If it continues to sell good.
