Sad to see this happen, but this could really happen in any company if you get some crappy managers who want to say "I'm the sole reason you guys made it anywhere" for every project their staff works on. Something similar happened to me in one of my jobs, but everybody involved was American and the excuse was "because I said so" instead of "I'm Japanese".
Either way, I think some form of bias and elitism was involved in both my case and theirs. The "vehicle" was different for using it, if you will.
@LaVelle About your 5th paragraph. I think if that happens, Nintendo will bury the amiibo in a landfill in New Mexico. Then, 30 years later, somebody will dig them up and have an amiibo treasure trove. xD
What's even more annoying is that you go into a store (I'm talking about Gamestop and Target in particular), and it would appear that their amiibo stock is limited to a only a selected shelf space. I noticed that not long after the Super Mario amiibo came out, that line slowly started taking up more space than the smash ones. I come back about a month later, and about 90% of the amiibo's are now Super Mario. The common smash amiibo are now starting to become uncommon it seems like.
You'd think that the retailers would maybe be smart enough to create more shelf space for these things. My local Toys R Us has about half a shelfing unit dedicated to amiibo (vice the other stores that only have an eighth of that space).
I felt that this E3 in general was very lackluster imo. Nothing to really gawk at. Just more details on things we knew about and a few surprises. Nothing earth shattering though...
@Quorthon Good enough for me. Just wanted to make sure you knew what you were talking about and not just pulling facts out of you know where...
As I said in my previous post, I only did a quick search, as I was doing about five things at once, most of them things for school.
Also, I think you should reread my previous post. I specifically said the only stuff I could find was for sales projections, but you bring it up in one of your references as if I never mentioned it.
I seem to sense a bit of a tone in your posts. I'm not sure if you're just passionate about the subject or if you think I have a tone because I don't. I only wanted to start a healthy discussion and didn't intend to offend you. I could really care less if I'm "right" on this to be honest. Just wanted to see what others would say.
@Quorthon You make a good point about them not repairing the state of the console during, but they didn't do much to revive the GC either but look at what the Wii did.
Also, can you give me a link or source on when Iwata ever said, "we failed"? He did say they "failed to meet sales projections", but that's not the same as saying "our product is bad." I tried looking, but couldn't find anything.
And also, if I remember correctly, his infamous "please understand" apologies were about things like not doing more to bring 3rd parties in, etc. not directly talking about the quality of the product. My google foo skills could not produce a list of quotes or else I would talk about this more, so I could be wrong..
To all the people saying that Iwata is in denial because he shows optimism...what are you expecting him to say?
He is the CEO and "figure head" of a company, and it is his responsibility to promote the company, no matter what state they are in.
I've never known a CEO, VP, etc. of any company to say in a public press release: "Yep, this product x that we have is terrible and is completely trumped by our competitors’ products, you should totally not buy it.”
What kind of an example would that set for potential customers and investors to see him say that his company makes inferior products? It should be up to each individual consumer and investor to take an honest look at the company and say "Hey, this comapny is on the right track, lets invest in them and/or buy their products." Not just the word of an executive.
Also, this press statement, in my opionion, is in no way, a found basis to say he is in denial. As I said before, the side we see of Iwata out in the public spotlight might not exactly reflect his statements that he makes inside the company's walls.
And, to those that ask why is it taking so long for them to develop a "Nintendo App", that's what happens when a company decides to break away from industry trends, and their plan does not work...
They need to invest lots of time and money in R&D (Research and Development) to build a product, and that generally is not done in one fell swoop or a short amount of time.
Now, if the situation hasn't improved this time next console generation, then, there will be cause for concern... My 2 cents anyway...
I'd think you'd be surprised. This was the game that I saw most of the people playing at that Best Buy E3 event last year and most of them were in their 20's or older.
Believe it or not, this might actually make me pre-order the game. I always hate having to spend money on gas, and I'm going to cut corners wherever I can.
@Hernandez I didn't mean like it's the only game not coming to the Wii U. I meant that this game was a huge part of the reason you were selling it. Sorry I didn't make that clear above. There's still good first party stuff coming down the pike. Like Smash Bros. and Mario Kart.
Also, don't knock DK until you try it.
What I'm saying is, unless you have zero interest in 1st party Nintendo stuff, I would think twice before selling it, that's all.
@cookiex True, but isn't it the record labels that are doing the same thing with digital song purchases? I honestly don't know how that stuff works to tell you the truth, but it is still thought provoking...
These are pretty cool stats. My only beef now (and correct me if I'm wrong) is why are digital sales of games still not accounted for on video game sales records? Based off this article, they would probably count for a pretty good percentage of sales and would be worth noting. What if the same thing was done with music, where companies like Billboard only counted the number of physical CD's or Vinyl (yes, they still make vinyl) copies of albums, EP's, and singles sold? Then there numbers would be drastically different!!
I still have a backlog of games I need to play, so the drought doesn't really affect me. From what I've seen, very few 3rd party games interest me anyway besides Watch Dogs. I think the industry had better 3rd party content back in 2003 - 2005 than now. Why can't a developer make a game like Destroy All Humans that's just completly crazy and fun to play? Then, I might be looking more at what the competiton has to offer.
Also, other than a few comments on here, nobody's stated anything new that hasn't been said in the past. If you want to see my views, just flip through my profile. No sense in posting the same thing over and over.
As a final word, for those of you who say 3 months is a long time, it's not. May will be here before we know it...trust me...
As I said in the forum thread about this, if this is anything like what happened with Pokémon X & Y on Amazon, this could potentially be great news! I definitely can't wait to get my hands on this along with Smash Bros. 4
@JimLad I don't think announcing something new and ground breaking during a presentation that only current Nintendo fans watch would get the job done either.
Also, unless all heck were to break lose (which believe it or not, hasn't happened yet), there's no way they would pull the plug on the system so early. We will just have to wait and see how E3 goes...
@JaxonH That was very well thought out and well written comment and you really hit the nail on the head!!
The only thing I don't agree with you on is the at the end, you seem to suggest that Nintendo SHOULD not be 3rd party focused. They should be 3rd party focused just as much as the others imo, because it will cost them in the long run. It is true that I by Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't get the best 3rd parties have to offer as well.
I still think the game is on unless it turns out the game is utter garbage and doesn't sell well on the other platforms like Aliens did. If it doesn't come to Wii U, then I'll see if my PC can run it. If not, oh well, I'm not going to cry myself to sleep over it. I also have no desire to buy another system for it at this point.

Re: The Man Who Found The SNES PlayStation Thinks It Will Probably Be Sold
Since it appears that we have documented evidence that at one time, the prototype looked like this, I think it's genuine.
There is always the possibility that it's a fake, but given the circumstances it was found under (that we know of), it seems unlikely.
Re: Prototype SNES PlayStation Found In The Wild, Unicorn And Big Foot Expected Next
I thiink he should try to find a 7.5V power supply (think that's what it was rated at), plug it in, and hope it doesn't explode. xD
But seriously, if I were him, I'd probably donate it to a tech museum or smoething.
