Re: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata "Has Earned The Right To Fail", Says David Jaffe

DanMan82

I didn't agree at all with him on the Disney buying Nintendo thing, but he really hit the nail on the head with this statement. See if the execs. at the big N can turn this thing around, and if not, then we can talk about getting rid of people. After all, if everything just came easy to us, would we be the same people we are today?

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." - Michael Jordan

Re: PS4 and Xbox One Surpass Wii U Lifetime Sales in the UK

DanMan82

(After finally being almost done with school, finally gets to enjoy the Wii U and the great games it has to offer. Finally forgets all the hate for the Wii U and that Nintendo is "backwards", then sees the comments).

"What did you say? I can't hear you over the sound of Batman smashing in someone's skull!"

Note: I'm not saying Nintendo has made some bad decisions, but do you know how often I think of them when I'm playing games? None. Like @theblackdragon said, play what you want and forget everyone else that tells you to play something else for no good reason.

(Goes back to corner and smashes Joker's skull in as Batman).

Re: Super Mario 3D World Underwhelms on Japanese Chart Début

DanMan82

Well, even though we all had high expectations for this game, if you really look at it, this isn't all that surprising. As we've seen from the previous sales charts, portable gaming is the "in" thing now in Japan with console gaming taking a back seat. Also releasing it around the holidays helps them, but it certainly doesn't help with making quick sales. Since we are so close to the holidays, people prob. put it in their Christmas list or something and some simply haven't got the chance to buy it yet. I know if it wasn't around the holidays, I would probably already have this game in hand. It will probably do better in America, but I wouldn't be surprised if those numbers don't meet our expectations as well.

Re: Reggie Talks Up Wii U Blockbusters As Top 10 Sellers Across the Whole Generation

DanMan82

You can say what you want about Reggie, but one thing that I admire about him is that he has guts. Hopefully he can leverage the assets he has at his disposal and make his claims a reality. All the highly successful businesses out there didn't get there just by "playing it safe" and making profits on "getting by". Reggie def. has the right mindset for the job. Only time will tell if he can put it into action.

Re: Performance of Batman: Arkham Origins Wii U Version Compares Unfavourably to 360 and PS3

DanMan82

I never had any problems with the game besides frame rate issues in cut scenes and occasionally a few drops in game. It runs pretty good on Wii U IMO. Funny how the people that did the comparison never talked about this:

This is on the PS3 version. While I think this is technically a "glitch" it seems to be a PS3 exclusive glitch. While some haven't experienced this, if you look in the comments, there are many others that have. There's another video that isn't anywhere near this bad, but at times, its like he's playing the game in slow motion.

EDIT: Supposedly there was supposed to be a patch for this, but I don't know if it has been released yet for sure.

Re: Video: Pitching a Wii U to Parents Requires Serious Production Values

DanMan82

Seemed decent to me. Reminds me of those commercials for kids trying to sell smart phones to their parents, even down to the cheesiness of it all (this one's probably cheesier though).

About the whole upgrade thing, if you think of it in the sense of, for example, "I'm going to upgrade from a PS3 to a PS4", then it makes sense. But I understand where you guys are coming from. Hopefully, this commercial gets decent airtime and can help get the word out.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime To Tour North American Cities to Play Wii U and 3DS Titles With the Public

DanMan82

I hope Reggie comes to my city but I doubt it.

Glad to see that most of the people are stoked on here for him doing this. At least it's better than if he were to sit at his desk twiddling his thumbs doing nothing. I really like this idea of bringing games to the "average joe" like they did with E3 this year. It certainly won't hurt. But you can't please everybody and you know what they say:

Re: "Uninformed" Store Staff Are Hurting Wii U Sales, Claims Senior Games Analyst

DanMan82

I think that once a larger amount of compelling games are released for the system and advertising picks up, the system will sell fine. I think my younger cousins are getting one this Christmas.

But yeah, I think counsmer confusion is still a big problem. A while ago when my parents bought me New Super Mario Bros. U for my birthday, the cashier wanted to make sure that my parents knew the game was for an all new system and not for the original Wii. Apparently they had a lot of returns for the game because people bought it and they couldn't play it on their original Wii system. XD

Re: Iwata: We Never Fear Failure And Always Seek To Challenge The Status Quo

DanMan82

@Doma I was going to respond to your casuals statement yesterday, but it looks like @Captain_Balko beat me to it.

Without going on a tangent or anything. I think Nintendo is trying to strick a happy medium between catering to the casual and hardcore audience. For the "hardcore" you have games like COD, AC, Watch Dogs, Bayonneta, etc. For "casuals" you have games like Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party, Nintendo Land to an extent, the Wii Sports Club games coming in November, and maybe a few eshop titles. And you can't forget the Hello Kitty racing game. XD

In my honest opionion, I think the "hardcore" audience is gone after more this time around, since it seems like there's more of those types of games compared to the original Wii.

Don't see this as me saying "you're wrong". I'm just stating my point of view, and was looking for a freindly discussion.

Re: Iwata: We Never Fear Failure And Always Seek To Challenge The Status Quo

DanMan82

True. You never know how something will work out until you try it on yourself. It seems like Mr. Iwata has a pretty good outlook for conducting business.

"Nintendo is not good at competing so we always have to challenge [the status quo] by making something new, rather than competing in an existing market."

There, see. Even Iwata says that Nintendo has it's faults. I didn't think this was a big secret so I don't understand why everyone points them out as if it were some incredible revalation you discovered. To quote Forrest Gump, "that's all I have to say about that".

Re: Extended Nintendo Network and Miiverse Maintenance Confirmed for 30th September

DanMan82

@Rafie I guess that makes me the only one that has no connection problems online (aside from when my internet connection drops at the most convenient times) *heavy sarcasm. There is almost no lag or none at all with the games I play online.

You are probably right though because every time I look at other players connection quality (Injustice for example) compared to mine, I'm the only one with all four bars. Everyone else is at one or zero bars.

But about the down time, I'm sure something good will come out of it. Whether it will be visible to us, the users, or not is a different question...
