@Yorumi I hear ya. Getting hard to see what's in front of us these days, with the media constantly misdirecting our attention. It shouldn't be hard to comprehend that Nintendo, learning a keen lesson from their current struggling home console, isn't likely to repeat it's blunders.
@KirbyTheVampire "Anyone who's more hardware savvy than me have any idea what this means for those big AAA games we were all hoping could end up on the Switch?"
It means nothing, dude. It's just more irrelevant speculative gossip, though the media wants you to think it isn't. As for ports, Nvidia's CEO has already confirmed that games from PC/XB1/PS4 can be easily ported to the Switch. He (the CEO) stated that to the public, not venturebeat or some other source. Doesn't get more relevant than that, so don't worry about ports, for now anyway.
I'm so tired of all this. Nvidia's CEO confirmed that PC/XB1/PS4 games will port to the Switch easily. Some speculative gossip about the specs of the device comes in trying to disguise itself as real news, and now we have doubts? Come on! And, are we seriously going to calculate the future of this console by speculating on blue prints? Why can't we just wait to see what's on hand, in January? I mean, shouldn't the software momentum tell the biggest story. I'm not proud of my gaming nation right now.
@peeks "Another game that won't sell and ubisoft will base all future gaming decisions on this and it's poor sales!"
Lol, I can understand why you'd feel that way, but, you have to realize that the lack of third-party sales was likely a Wiiu thing, and not a Nintendo thing. Fortunately, the Switch seems like it will be a better console, and hopefully it sells well enough to stimulate third-party growth. I'd say it probably will. 😉
@rjejr The mobile device market isn't where the most dedicated gamers are, and for a reason. There are no physical input standards, and its software is dominated by the indie scene. None of that will change anytime soon, because smart device gaming, having created a huge number of casuals, is riding on a wave of success similar to the Wii. At best, it's an effective starting point for gamers.
The idea that the mobile market has been gaining a dominating foothold on the dedicated gaming market is a myth, brought on by its impressive growth and a lack of assessing its nuances.
Believe me when I say that mobile devices will never own the industry. At least not without supplying a competent dedicated hardware configuration. Had a powerful mobile device myself, top of the line. Had fun with it for a while then put it down for a Vita and 3DS, and haven't looked back since. As the dedicated handheld market evolves, I can see this happening more often.
@arrmixer "The only thing I was upset about was the Rayman disaster .. that really had me pissed. I remember playing that game in Gamestop as one of the games showing off the system and LOVED it.. I actually bought the system looking forward to playing that game."
Yeah, I assumed that Ubisoft had let a lot of gamers down when the company hacked up the Wiiu's Rayman exclusivity deal. I was thoroughly impressed with the demo myself. Although it was a 2-D game, one could argue that it did an excellent job of showing off what the Wii U is capable of, not just in terms of Graphics, but in terms of gameplay as well. And I still believe that keeping the course with that deal would have been beneficial for both Ubisoft and the Wiiu.
@YoshiTails "The Switch is not an innovation. It's a Wii U with a severed umbilical chord."
Sounds like someone's grumpy and looking for an upvote. Well, if it was another dual-screen concept with Wiiu backwards compatibility and tons of gadgets in the controller, then maybe you could argue that, just maybe. But, it's not, so...
And why are you fighting against third-party enthusiasm? If they want to be excited about the Switch, then let them be. I mean, that's what we want, anyway. Right?
The Switch may not be the most powerful (although it will likely contain the most powerful handheld) console in history, when it launches, but it will be the most flexible gaming device in the history of dedicated gaming. Which I feel should have a wonderful impact on an era of rising development costs.
@TomJ "I still have yet to see what makes the Switch tick outside of taking your home console experiences out of the house."
Understood. It took me awhile to discover what makes the switch special outside of its portability. But I came to realize that the prospect of the switch is bigger than me. The Switch isn't just about us gamers, it's about developers as well. It will effectively and automatically double the marketability of softwares by catering to two markets simultaneously. In other words, multiplats can have a greater market reach on a Nintendo platform for once, and without requiring any strenuous optimization. I get the feeling that publishers are going to value that ease of extra profitability, and that makes me excited.
And, fans can finally rejoice. We've needed something like the switch for a while. You like Monster Hunter on the go? You've got it. Been wishing for a competent sequel to play on your home console? You've got it. And all in one package. It's a good thing that Nintendo didn't listen to irrational critics and dropped out of any particular market, because they wouldn't have faced the challenges that led to the creation of the switch.
@KidRad "lol WHAT games do you speak of? The lame unintrresting boring basketball Sim? The two unexciting wii u ports that people have already played? The fake 5 second Mario tech demo and unannounced skyrim quickie?"
Hmm, interesting; you seem to be reveling in your supposed disapproval of the switch presentation. Serious question, did you want the presentation to fail? What's your deal? I was trying to open your eyes a little. I don't know what people want from Nintendo, but the company isn't going to fully recover overnight. It's going to be a process, and I would say that they are off to a good start.
Boring basketball Sim? You mean the likely popular one that looked good on the Switch, with fluid frame rates? Two wii u ports that people have already played? I don't remember being able to use two items in MK8, and we saw new animations, hairstyles, outfits, and a new level in the Splatoon presentation. Not to mention that I don't recall anyone being able to play either of those games on a train ride. A fake 5 second Mario tech demo? Who said it was a tech demo? An unannounced skyrim quickie? Better than no Skyrim. Now, allow me to have the last laugh at your feeble attempt to insult me. 😁
@Manjushri "Console fails totally, so what do they do? Make the same console, only this time you can take the game pad outside."
What are you talking about? The Switch is nothing like the Wiiu. It just retains the Wiiu's best feature: off TV play, and makes it better.

@G-Boy Yeah, me neither. But then again, they've made a lot of mobile-optimized touchscreen based games for Nintendo's handhelds. The Switch's console level power, and commitment to home console level games, and simplicity might be presenting an early challenge, not just in terms of concept, but financially as well.
@JaxonH I get the feeling that Multi-plats, on the Switch, are going to be competent where it counts. Think about this: Nintendo designed the Switch while being aware of the Wiiu's CPU/GPU issues and being aware of what the competition is putting on the table. So, it would make sense to assume that the Switch isn't just a new idea, but will also be Nintendo's response to the competition and the failing Wiiu, hence why the company has been communicating with publishers and went with a top chip maker like Nvidia.
Nintendo has gone through a tremendous amount of reform over the last couple of years, and that's apparent in the presentation of the Switch. So forget about the old Nintendo, that company is dead, and have faith in the new Nintendo.
@impurekind You're seeing what you want to see. And you're making assumptions based on what you think you know. It's okay, a lot of people do it. But, it's best to wait until concrete details are revealed before discussing concrete theories. In the meantime, if Nintendo says it will be a console first then that's what it will be. Oh, and in the Switch's press release info, Nintendo DID describe the device as having "the power of a home console". What that power level could be, we don't yet know.
@readyletsgo Whoa, whoa! Slow down! It's a rumor. It's open for discussion. But are you seriously making a decision, based on this? Sheesh, don't be so gullible. No offense, but it's like some of you guys are looking for a reason to hate the Switch.
@jimi The Wiiu's gamepad was designed with too many locked-in functions, which became an obtrusive issue when developers wanted to do something simple. Its controller's integrated feature set, though useful when intuitive, brought more issues than benefits, in the long run. Is that what you want for the Switch? I would imagine not.
As a proud Nintendo fan, I wish Nintendo gamers didn't complain so much. They seem to love complaining about what they don't have. Nintendo gives them gimmicks, they want simplicity. Nintendo gives them simplicity, they want gimmicks. And, it annoys me to think that, when it comes to speculation, what wasn't in the trailer is getting more attention than what was. I guess we're just used to attaching ourselves to rumors.
@cfgk24 24 I don't think it's going to function as a traditional tablet. That would require it to have a full operating system, like Android or ios, which can be costly to develop and can steal resources needed for gaming.
@KidRad So you didn't notice the games? I thought that's what mattered the most to gamers. And you don't have to use it as a portable, so the portable element shouldn't bother you.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Packing in motion and touch gimmicks that would do little more than add to the cost of the console and/or complicate ports? Seriously? Where have you been for the last four years? That's the very thing that got the Wiiu in trouble.
@JHDK A number of the companies on the Switch's support roster are companies that abandoned the Wiiu. I don't think those companies that abandoned the Wiiu would be interested in coming back if they didn't feel that the Switch was a lucrative concept. And I think with the Wiiu, publishers didn't care about whether the hardware was worthy or not; they were just looking to get a piece of that Wii audience that unfortunately didn't show up. But, at the end of the day, I wouldn't worry too much because the Switch will grant Nintendo the opportunity to start over, build a brand new reputation.
@NinjaWaddleDee There's nothing wrong with keeping your expectations in check. But, "no more powerful than the Wiiu"? Come on. You gotta give Nintendo more credit than that.
@XCWarrior Calm down, dude. Lol. The Switch's era, heck, the full reveal, is yet to begin and happen. You guys Crack me up, with your rushed assumptions and constant tantrums.
@MitchVogel A question that's been in my mind for a while. My assumption is that they want to maximize holiday preorders and pre-purchases for 3DS bundles before revealing the NX. That and they are probably finalizing the product for showcase.
@Yoshis_VGM I agree. But, I smell a conspiracy with that comment. Why just mention the PS4, when there's also the remarkably similar Xbox1? Sounds like someone doesn't want the PS4 to be overshadowed.
@Ufaowl I don't think we'll have to worry too much about that. The success of Nintendo's mobile software promotes brand recognition, which is good for their own dedicated hardware. There are some geniuses at work behind the reformed company, and they are building a bigger fanbase for their upcoming hardware.
@brandonbwii I understand what you meant now, and it makes a lot of sense. In fact, I agree with you. To an extent, that is.
Most third-party relationships won't be difficult to build or repair, once Nintendo provides a modern platform. But, then there are the big companies like EA, Activision, or even Ubisoft that will pose a challenge for Nintendo, in terms of bringing proper support. The real dilemma with Nintendo and the modern gaming industry is that the industry has changed. It hasn't grown up like people say; there's always been games for adults to play, it's just that adult themes have nearly come to define the industry. Nintendo is being bold by remaining a family friendly company in such an era, considering that it's costing them a bit of popularity at the moment. Who knows, maybe in time, even they will change.
Which brings me to the point of this comment: I agree with your assumption that Nintendo, in the near future, probably won't get the support that the competition is getting. But, I disagree with your assumption that there is nothing the company can do about it. I think it's just a matter of whether or not the company is willing to do what it takes. Will Nintendo sacrifice its family friendly motto to join the third-party ranks of Sony and Microsoft? Or will the company not have to? Maybe nintendo will become what propels the industry to becoming family friendly again. Only time will tell.
@EXP Good question, and it's good to hear someone ask it. The truth of the matter is this popular theory of gamer migration is just that, a theory. There's been no posted correlative evidence providing proof of its legitimacy. And, if you ask me, The 3DS's underwhelming success and the Wiiu's infamous stumble are both likely the results of misdirection in their research and development phase. The smart device market and the dedicated gaming device market are too different from one another for one to cannibalize the other. Nintendo knows this, which is why they're putting their IP on smart devices, and creating awareness of their brands.
@brandonbwii Here we go again. Can you give me a thorough explanation for why you feel that Nintendo, without a magic wand, can't achieve all those things you said the company can't achieve? I didn't know the market was that predictable. Or perhaps, is it that your basing your theories on the crippling influence of fanboys? I don't think fanboys have those kinds of numbers.
@ThanosReXXX Thank you for saying that so I didn't have to. You'd think that a number of these commenters want to believe that the NX will be an underpowered gimmicky mess . They have a crooked outlook.
@SPG "nowhere near" is a bit of an overstatement. It may not be as powerful as those (Neo, Scorpio) other two consoles, but we may be surprised at how it compares, considering that Nintendo can spend more on graphics specs with a cheaper cartridge bay in the NX.
@MadAussieBloke I can see it as a hybrid, but not like people expect. I imagine it will come with advanced streaming technology that will allow it to be playable anywhere around the house, and even on the porch and in the backyard several feet away from the house. Simply putting PS4 power into a handheld would be too expensive. Although...
