Re: No Battlefield 4 For Wii U Because DICE Wants To "Play It Safe"

Since when did Ubisoft profit from Assassin's Creed III? Do you have a link to sales of how many copies were sold? I'm doubting your claims.

It's not Ubisoft's fault it's contributing to a momentarily lost cause. I'm not declaring that third parties will never release games on Wii U, all I'm saying is that no smart publisher with big budget games are going to release them on Nintendo's Wii U in the next year.

Yeah, I'm sure that's why, but nothing lasts forever and if Nintendo truly had that mindset (it doesn't), you could expect it closing its foreign doors in the next few years, lol.

@Zellybeanie

The people who want BF4 are the people who already own a PC or last generation console. Taking these comments as an example, most of these users didn't even want the game to begin with which, as predictable as it is, isn't shocking and further proves that DiCE and EA made the best decision possible.

Ubisoft doesn't have mystical powers to see into the future so it had no other option but to gamble its few games at launch. Otherwise, no other third party is contributing to the Wii U and won't until it sells well.

(Prepare for low budget risks on Wii U, lol.)

I'm not too sure if Wii U outsold the Xbox 360 but even so, look at the slump Sony's PlayStation3 was in and now it's a success. Launches don't determine the outcome of consoles nor do past launches. Now, where Sony was sitting in 2007, it had a lot of third party support on the way and a wealth of first party titles on the way as well including an over abundance of new IPs.

There's no denying that. The question is, is that can Nintendo do the same? I'm not too optimistic about it due to its history of lacking in that aspect.

Re: No Battlefield 4 For Wii U Because DICE Wants To "Play It Safe"

Nintendo will have to resort to handhelds-only if third parties are not supporting its consoles. Nintendo will only last so long after its audiences figure its same old franchises are starting to burn out rather quickly and with its new IPs selling below the horizon at every corner, it's only a matter of time.

@SethNintendo

Either way, it's not selling well as of now and won't for some time. The launch of Wii U was only the launch and has no key benefits for Nintendo anymore. Actually, Nintendo had to decrease the goal of the sales target not too long ago to help its share holders.

That's not good. Plus, there's no reason to buy one until the Holiday season unlike its current last generation competition and with a lack on interest from third parties, nothing will change substantially for the next generation console. Looks like it'll be yes another Nintendo console where only Nintendo's games will be worth a look.

Re: No Battlefield 4 For Wii U Because DICE Wants To "Play It Safe"

@Exile20

The Wii U didn't sell at the beginning whatsoever. As of now, there's no demand for it. Plus, there's barely any third party support aside from Ubisoft. Which isn't enough to justify a purchase.

What happened in the past happened in the past. The past has no impact to the future success of any console on the market. I'm not sure why any of you are debating this, but it's a tad redundant.

Re: Phil Fish: I Love Nintendo In Ways It Probably Doesn't Deserve

@Windy

I don't think a documentary that revolves around Team Meat, Phil and the man who made Braid is the best source of discovering Fish's, or anyone else's, people skills or any other aspect of their personalities.

Especially considering how short the movie is, how limited Phil's part was and the fact there's no concrete evidence to validate your observation.

It's funny how nobody but pixelman has realized what's going on here (and has been for a long time).

I know it's annoying and unnecessary for you to read Fish's opinions but you're blaming the wrong guy. Blame Damien and the NL staff for allowing this unnecessary "news" article(s) to be published.

It's unprofessional and, in other words, utterly immature.

@DarkCoolEdge

Ego or not, he has an opinion I agree with. Beyond that, you or anyone else ranting on about how it's "wrong" or "bullcrap" are just wasting time on this fantastic Sunday with a professional that will never read these comments.

@yobokkie

Who are you to say he doesn't have room to talk? For all we know, you're the average joe that only plays games and nothing more.

Re: FEZ Creator Insists The Game Wouldn't Work On The 3DS

Chrono_Cross

Seems like he has plenty of time and energy to port his game to a decent amount of platforms. I suspect he just has a grudge against Nintendo for some reason. All WiiWare issues have been fixed and Nintendo doesn't even charge for patching (which can be a big fee for each patch on other systems). I just don't see a legit reason to ignore Wii U and 3DS eshops while porting it to Steam, Mac, even a Linux and OUYA port...
You seem to like to stick up for someone that doesn't have a legitimate excuse.

There's not a market for his game. Even if the install base is decent, he's not going to support a service that barely anyone acknowledges and a service that's backed up with outdated hardware.

The community that wanys Fez more than any other is the Sony fanbase.

you should be friends with Fish... You seem like you'd understand the deep issues of his life. "...half a decade." Hahaha! Fish is probably just tired of Fez.

I watched that indy developer movie with him in it. Very interesting. So I sort get a jiff of what he went through. And I believe he's tired of Fez but who knows, lol.

Uh, he just said it was coming for the Vita...

Probably because it's coming out on PSN. Cross-play sounds like a fantastic exclusive feature to have.

Phil Fish never expressed his "concerns" with Japanese game development. He said "your games are ****ing terrible." Kind of big difference there.

He has every right to brag. No need to get all offended.

Re: FEZ Creator Insists The Game Wouldn't Work On The 3DS

Chrono_Cross

@SethNintendo

You obviously don't understand Phil Fish. He's not money hungry with his eyes open to every opportunity there is. It took him (a one man band/developer), nearly half a decade to develop Fez and it was a bumpy ride for him. It was difficult for him to develop an innovative game all by himself on a difficult platform.

Yet you, a consumer who thinks game developing is all sunshine and rainbows, demands a "real" answer to why Fez won't release on your beloved toy. Maybe Phil doesn't want to do that since he already achieved his goal of releasing Fez with successful ratings and sales. Maybe, just maybe, he's sick of death threats and didn't want to anger the community any more with the blatant truth.

It's not announced for the Vita, though, that's no reason to get upset. It's his time, resources and, most importantly, his game.

Re: Lead Designer On Watch_Dogs Has Parted Company With Ubisoft

@AlexSora89

Replying to everyone is an unnecessary task.

while game companies' main purpose is to make good games for money

That's what both companies do. Whether you judge quality based on reviews or sales, both Activision's World of Warcraft expansions and yearly Call of Duty titles sell millions of copies. I'm going to assume you think those are bad, rehashed and include other cliche complaints but those games are fantastic because if they weren't, they wouldn't sell millions in the first month.

As for the artistic portion, no, not every developer has to innovate to make a profit. (Nintendo is guilty of this as well.) You're leaning towards freedom of speech, which is what Activion's studios act upon.

The gaming industry, much like the music industry, is an industry. Shocking I know, and the companies that make up the industry make a living off the games it publishes. Nintendo and Ubisoft don't make good games because it wants to please whiny, hormonal teenagers for self satisfaction, rather, it makes good, innovative games because those sell. High in demand.

As for micro-transactions, EA is losing money and has to make up for it in some other way. Simple as that.
