Re: New Swords & Soldiers Instructional Video

Chipmunk777

It seems like fun, it's a lot like the many "defense" flash games you find on Newgrounds though.. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing (the success of Defend Your Castle has shown this); I like those games! And this one seems like it will have a certain charm to it.

Re: Secret of Mana

Chipmunk777

Very good review, Corbie! The only thing missing was a discussion about the ability to raise your skill with a certain weapon/element. This was one of the most addicting things about this game, for me! You gain experience the more you use a type of magic (Undine [Water], Gnome [Earth], Sylphid [Lightning], etc.), and when you gain a level the spells become stronger. Some spell animations also change as you get more proficient in a type of magic.

Weapons use the same type of system, but when you gain a level you can charge an attack for longer and do stronger attacks, each with different animations.

Anyway, this is one of my favorite games of all time. This is a steal at $8. Especially with the 3 player co-op option (I was never able to play 3 player on my SNES because you needed some weird multi-tap type thing), this is one of the best games you can get on the VC.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (8th Oct)

Chipmunk777

Wooo! Mega Man 9 and Bomberman! And, I'm surprised at how well Orbient is doing too! It's a largely unknown game. I guess it's that low price tag that brought in its sales! I bought it and am very happy with it; I like anything with an interesting physics engine.

Re: Why You Should be Excited About Cave Story

Chipmunk777

This is one of my favorite freeware games (next to the original Spirit Engine, which by the way, you guys should check out too, as well as the excellent sequel!). It truly is expertly crafted; this article touches on many of the great points of the game. Great article! I'd say the best way to get excited about the wiiware version is to download the pc version and try it out!

Re: WiiWare Games To Be Directly Downloadable To SD Cards

Chipmunk777

Seriously! Nintendo keeps releasing Wiiware games and VC games, and yet they don't think that people will run out of room? Do they hate making money? My main deterrent the past, what, like 6 months, from buying VC or Wiiware games was that I just didn't have enough room on my Wii. The only things I've bought in that time is Ys I & II and Megaman 9, and I had to delete an N64 game and some other SNES game from my wii to make room for them! But, there are countless others I WOULD have bought if I had had room, but I chose not to because I didn't want to delete anything I currently had on my Wii.

Re: Mega Man 9 - Proto Man Details Revealed

Chipmunk777

@Juampi

Ahhhh, very cool! Thanks! That looks pretty interesting actually! I don't think it would make the game too much harder (since the main cause of my deaths is usually platforming ), just different. I like that he deflects shots during his jump, that's a pretty cool mechanic. I'll probably dl this as soon as it's available too, since I have some leftover points anyway

Re: Review: Mega Man 9 (WiiWare)

Chipmunk777

I agree, Galaxy Man's stage is definitely where you want to start, it's the easiest. I think Tornado Man's stage is hardest. And I agree, I haven't noticed much difference in the sprite flicker mode. And the most fun? I'd have to say Plug Man's as well. I like the look of it, and I'm always a sucker for a good disappearing block puzzle

Re: First Impressions: Madstone

Chipmunk777

I think this probably won't sell well. The puzzle game wiiware market is over-saturated. As a side note, the title makes me think of Powerstone. Which makes me miss my Dreamcast

Re: Review: Mega Man 9 (WiiWare)

Chipmunk777

@deadly.by.design

Try Galaxy Man, he's easy. His stage is also probably the easiest of the 8.

@Objection Blaster

Ooooh! I'm glad you decided to buy it! You won't be disappointed (although you may make a few holes in your TV )

Anyway, great review Corbie! (as always ) This is the best wiiware game yet. Excellently executed by Capcom. Amazingly NESque. The game is definitely hard. It took me about 2 hours of play to beat one boss (because I tried Galaxy Man last )

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Mega Man 9 and Plättchen

Chipmunk777

@Mayhem64

Oh really? lol You'd think the water person would be weak against electricity But then again, most of the robot masters' weaknesses never made sense. And, Tornado Man's stage drives me absolutely insane! That damn rainy/windy part is so annoying..

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Mega Man 9 and Plättchen

Chipmunk777

Nah, I've beaten Galaxy Man, Jewel man, and Plug man. Next time I play I'll go for Splash Woman's stage, although that damn moving water-filled platform section always kicks my a**. I think I'll just buy a crap load of lives before I try it again

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Mega Man 9 and Plättchen

Chipmunk777

@ x.supermario.x

I've found the wiimote to be the best thus far. the buttons config on the classic controller just feels weird. and, correct me if I'm wrong but the GC pad doesn't work? it was listed as an option, but I can't get it to work for me.. Either way, I probably wouldn't use the GC config anyway

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Mega Man 9 and Plättchen

Chipmunk777

@Objection_Blaster

The gameplay is perfect. Authentic Mega Man. So, if you have played any of them, you know what to expect. If not, it's hard to say. Mega Man games present one of the most challenging gaming experiences out there.

Mega Man 9 is not unfairly challenging (a few things are REALLY frustrating though ), but make no mistake; Capcom made this game truly authentic. The game is hard. MM9 fits in perfectly with the rest of them, I'd go as far as to say it's one of THE hardest (certainly more-so than MM1 or 2, in my opinion. but, that may just be because I'm not as familiar with this one) mega man games.

I'm really enjoying it, in spite of it completely kicking my a**

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Mega Man 9 and Plättchen

Chipmunk777

Wooo! Megaman 9! ....This game is freaking hard. I played through MM1 and 2 a few times the past couple of days to get myself psyched up for MM9, but holy crap man! This game is ridiculously hard! Those god damned water-platform things on splash woman's stage and the disappearing block puzzle on plug man's stage are so frustrating. Anyway, yeah the checkpoints are as usual; middle of the stage and right before the boss.

This one will take quite a bit of practice. And the leaderboards/challenge things are also quite a nice touch. Definitely a great buy for 1000 pts and 66 blocks! Could this be the first 10/10 on WWW?

Re: Plättchen: Twist 'n' Paint

Chipmunk777

I have no idea what's going on in that video..? I'll check out the review later, I only took a look at the score. But unfortunately, if the choice for Monday is either this or Megaman 9, I won't be getting it this monday anyway

Re: Secret of Mana

Chipmunk777

@Bass

I think when I first played the game when I was like 10 or 11, I named them Eric (boy, my name), Jac (girl, my sister's name), and Midget (sprite). Ahhh man, such good memories. Me and my sister used to play this all the time when we first got it. The two player co-op was the best! Occasionally, we will still pick up the cart and play it together

Also, I greatly prefer SoM to SoE. I wasn't a big fan of SoE's magic system (well I kind of liked it, but I like SoM's traditional system better), and SoE just seemed kind of unpolished to me. In the sound effects, graphics, all that kind of stuff. I still like the game, just not as much as SoM. Maybe I'm just partial

Re: USA VC Releases: Ys Book I & II and Samurai Shodown II

Chipmunk777

Wooo! Next time I get a free moment I will definitely download Ys Book I & II! Can't wait! But between work and now school starting up again, I won't be free until about Thursday night

And of course SMRPG didn't come out today! You people have to be crazy to think that would happen! However, the two games released today are excellent. Give them a look, don't just pass them by because they aren't SMRPG

Re: Midnight Pool

Chipmunk777

@deadbattery

Yeah Wii Play really isn't that great of a game, but hell I got it when it came out just for the extra wiimote

At any rate, I did really enjoy pool on Wii Play, that and the shooting gallery game were my two favorites. But, as others have said, the rules they used in Wii Play for pool were annoying. This one should have a lot more depth.

Re: Review: Strong Bad Episode 1 - Homestar Ruiner (WiiWare)

Chipmunk777

@ACK!

I agree with you completely. If you don't enjoy Homestar Runner, you probably won't like this game. I actually laughed out-loud pretty consistently throughout the entire game. The puzzles aren't mind-numbingly difficult, but they all make perfect sense. You don't have to combine a half-eaten donut and a clothes hanger to make the key to a dresser in a room you were in 5 hours ago. All together, it's a simple point-and-click adventure that is very entertaining if, as ACK! said, you enjoy the source material.

However, there is definitely room for improvement. I'm looking forward to the next one! I decided to buy this for the PC instead of the Wii, due to the price difference ($35 to preorder all 5 episodes) as well as the storage issue with the Wii

Also as Naturestee said, if you are undecided about buying the game, download the PC demo! That's what made me want to get it! I played the demo for about 5 minutes and they already had me laughing. The way it's written is so unlike any other point-and-click game I've played. It's very authentically Homestar.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (13th August)

Chipmunk777

You know, I'm really not surprised by these lists anymore. Although I am happy that Strong Bad is #1, it is an excellent game.

I just don't care about the top 20 anymore. Continue to buy games like Pong Toss and My Pokemon Ranch, America. I'll continue to enjoy great games like Toki Tori and Star Soldier R. Although it is a shame that Toki Tori never got support from the American market, it really is a brilliant game. I was hoping for a sequel

Re: New My Aquarium Trailer, Game Due This Month

Chipmunk777

Hah.... No thanks. I work at Petsmart and I get to see enough "fishy goings-on" when I'm scrubbing algae out of 70+ fish tanks

But I must say, the fish in the game do look very authentic, and it seems like they'll have some good variety as well (saltwater fish without all the work!)
