Re: Nintendo Download: 16th June 2009 (Japan)

FFIIIJ is an excellent game. Definitely worth a translation. It was the first FF to feature a Job Change system, in that you can choose to change to different jobs such as Warrior, Monk, Black Wizard, etc., and level up a certain job (as seen again later in Final Fantasy V). I've played it on an emulator with a fan-translated rom, and it really is a lot of fun. The updated DS version of FFIII is good too, but the NES version just has a certain appeal to me, with the graphics and sound effects and all that.

FFIIJ is not really that great, in my opinion. A lot of people really enjoy the game, but I've never been able to play beyond two hours into the game. It is just so uninteresting to me, and the level system in that game is kind of strange (and easy to exploit). The leveling system is that there are no character levels, just levels for each stat, type of weapon, and type of magic. Your MP goes up if you use a lot of MP in a battle, your STR goes up if you attack a lot in battle, etc. etc. At any rate, I have always gotten bored when I try to play through this game, whether on an emulator, on the PSX version (FF Origins), or on the GBA version. Also being that this game has been released several times in the US (PSX, GBA, PSP....) I don't think it is worth downloading the original on the VC, if it ever comes our way that is.

Re: Sony And Microsoft Suffering From Wii-nis Envy?

Chipmunk777

I could see the Natal ending up like the Powerglove. Not really working and being hard to get it to do what you want it to do. Video games, in general, need some kind of buttons! Some kind of dpad or stick!

Although, if microsoft makes a movie with a super cool kid saying "I love the Natal.... it's so bad." I could see it selling a lot more! The Wizard 2 anyone??

Re: Sony Expects Wii Owners To Upgrade To PS3

Chipmunk777

About the only reason I want a PS3 at some point is Metal Gear Solid 4. It used to be Final Fantasy XIII was the thing that assured me I would be getting a PS3 some day, but now that Squeenix is releasing it on the 360 anyway, I don't think I'll ever get a PS3. There just aren't enough good, original games on the PS3 to warrant me spending $400+ on it. The wii really just has the better library. Yes, that wand demo at E3 was impressive, but I still feel like the wii will just do it better because that's what it was originally designed for. I feel like that wand will just become another failing gimicky sony peripheral.

And anyway, I'm plenty happy with my computer, my Wii, and my 360.

Re: Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days Trailer

Chipmunk777

Wow this looks great! The graphics & cutscenes look great. It seems strange that they chose to make this on the ds though. Why not just make it on the wii? That would make local multiplayer much easier.... At any rate, I can't wait!

Re: Nintendo Download: Flip Champs, Final Fantasy IV, Boulder Dash (US)

Chipmunk777

Woooo great update! I'd be excited for the first time about DSiWare if I had a DSi But, as exciting as FFIV: After Years is, i'm not going to get it until probably next week. I've just recently started playing a bunch of other things, and also I'm still playing Majora's Mask also, as someone in a previous comment stated But at any rate, good update!

Re: Fugazo Announces Frobot for WiiWare

Chipmunk777

Wow this looks amazing! The music is great too! Also, I love Wii Tanks and Legend of Zelda. P: But yeah judging from the video, this game looks like it will be one of the better releases on WiiWare.

Re: Interviews: Matt Bozon, Adam Tierney, and Sean Velasco of WayForward - Part Two

Chipmunk777

Great interview Corbie! Those chaps at WayForward seem like really cool guys who are passionate about making great games! I want to play Sigma Star Saga after reading that interview. I'd never heard of it before, but it looks great! Also, lol @ "pogs are coming back in a big way!"

And they like EVO! That is one of my favorite childhood memories! It would be great to get a sequel, especially if it were from these guys.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

Chipmunk777

lol choo choo train

But seriously, this looks quite good. I never played phantom hourglass.... I'm not sure why! I think my sister has it, maybe I will have to borrow it some time. But anyway, the dual-screen boss battle in the video looks epic.

Re: Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 in "Not Coming to Wii" Shocker

Chipmunk777

Ahhhh if my dreamcast still worked I would bust this one out again. Great fun, a really challenging game also. I'll probably end up downloading this for my xbox, just for memory's sake.

Also, speaking of dreamcast, what a great and underrated console!! :[

Re: New Game Play Video - Toribash

Chipmunk777

Yeah, you all should definitely try out the pc version; if the wiiware version is anything like it I am super excited about it!

For several earlier comments, this game is not a typical fighting-genre game. The "fights" are one move that each person performs in steps. It is kind of hard to explain, it's best that you just go try it for yourself! I've spent countless hours just fighting the dummy coming up with cool moves. It is really fun! You go through an attack, frame by frame, and choose which muscles to contract, extend, hold, or let flop around and attempt to make some cool looking attacks. It does take a little while to figure out how to do stuff, but once you get the hang of it, it really is a load of fun!

Re: Interviews: Cocoto Platform Jumper - Neko Entertainment

Chipmunk777

@ Ferret75

Haha I know, I read that part and had to read over it again to make sure I read it correctly. I thought what was said after that quote was rather hilarious also:

"Our relatives, gamers and non-gamers alike, played the game and found it quite entertaining and addictive ... Initially, we wanted to add new modes and improve existing ones. But then we realized that the game is quite good as it is."

12/20 is positive in the way that a 60% on an exam is positive. All in all, an entertaining interview! I feel like these guys really want to believe in their games, I do! But it just doesn't seem like any of them are.... good. :[

Re: Nintendo Download: Clubhouse Games, Paper Planes, Platforms and Warring States (US)

Chipmunk777

@ Blaze

It seems like it would be a kind of "take your turn, pass the controller" 8 player game. From looking at the video, the game looks like it would play out kind of similarly to Risk (the board game, I don't know how its video game counter-parts play).

But at any rate, I have also been disappointed with the updates as of late. It's not a big deal though, good stuff will come eventually! I was hoping for cave story today, that would have been sweet.

Re: DSi Has a Strong Opening Weekend

Chipmunk777

I can't believe how well they have sold already! I am terribly uninterested in it. My old old old ds works just fine (and has a gba slot.), and I am completely apathetic about dsiware.

Also, first.

Re: Silent Hill Wii-make Will Make You Wet Your Pants All Over Again

Chipmunk777

woah! that would be the greatest! I loved the original silent hill, I think it had the best atmosphere/story of any of the games, and it would be so much better with GOOD graphics And I also like how your actions can change the course of the game. This would be great.

Regardless, this news makes me want to play some of my silent hill games! Specifically SH4, I didn't finish that one...

Re: Welcome to the New Look Nintendo Life!

Chipmunk777

I do like it better, although it doesn't really affect me that much since I mostly just use RSS feeds to keep up with VC/wiiware stuff anyway

which reminds me, I have to change the rss feeds on my other computer...

Re: Welcome to the New Look Nintendo Life!

Chipmunk777

what a poor choice of days to unveil the new design though!

I thought at first that it had to be an april fool's joke, but clicking around the site with the new layout and everything, there's no way you guys made all that new content and stuff just for an april fool's joke but if you did, you certainly will have tricked us all.

but anyway, I rather like the new layout. although I will miss the old vc reviews layout :[

Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - April 2009

Chipmunk777

Majora's Mask!! The only time I've ever played it is on an emulator, and I never really got into it (likely because it was on an emulator). But from what everyone says, it is very good. I would definitely download it if it came to NA.

Re: Namco Announces Upcoming Arcade Games

Chipmunk777

I wonder if there's any possibility of light gun games showing up in the Arcade section of the VC? (CarnEvil?? Time Crisis?? Hell, even Jurassic Park would be fun) Or those snowboard/skateboard/skiing games that I remember from the arcade? (balance board)

Probably not. But still, that would be cool.

At any rate, this new update has finally gotten me interested in the wii's digital distribution again!

Re: Wii Storage Solution Solved - Finally A Use For The SD Card Slot!

Chipmunk777

wow! great news! now I actually have a reason to look at virtual console and wiiware again!

I haven't been downloading nearly the amount of things I would have if storage weren't an issue. So now, I can go back and get all those games that looked good, but not good enough to warrant all the hassle of moving things back and forth from the sd card.

Re: ESRB Update: Four New WiiWare Games on the Way

Chipmunk777

I've tried all versions of FFII, and I just cannot get into it! I don't know why. That and XII are the only FFs I haven't completed.

@Mickeymac

If you thought the gameplay of FFIV and FFVI were boring, I doubt you'll like FF2. It sounds like you'll enjoy FFV, that's a great one. The job system is very addicting. In the same thought, you'd probably like FFIII also (the 3d remake on DS is great!). You know, I really like every final fantasy though. FFVII is probably one of my favorites (I find customizing the materia and trying different things on each play through very enjoyable), I have to have played through it at least 10 times. FFVIII is probably my least favorite, there wasn't much new, and it was hard to get into. I did like it of course, the story was pretty good, but it's not one I'd play over and over again FFIX is also great, just because the story and characters have a very retro feel. It's like a modern version of classic FFs. It's one of the most underrated FFs, I think. And as for FFX, I think that may be one of my favorites as well. I've replayed that one maybe 4 or 5 times. I actually think the sphere grid allows for quite a bit of customization. On other playthroughs, I like to try giving the characters different roles (on one playthrough, my main group was Rikku, Yuna, and Lulu, and they all did 99999 damage with their regular attacks, and Tidus, Wakka, and Auron were my magic users ). Aaaaaaaaand as for FFXII, it's certainly not one of my favorites. The story is boring (and basically non-existent), but I personally found the gameplay very addicting. I liked the whole "hunt for monsters" thing, too. They tried to make that one more like an mmorpg, it seems (kind of modeled after ffxi I guess ).

BUT!! I have high hopes for FFXIII, especially since it is coming out on the xbox360 now (PS3s are too expensive!). My favorite FFs? It's hard for me to choose! I'd have to say FFI, FFIV, FFV, FFVI, FFVII, and FFX. But as I've said, I really do like all of them. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm going to have to give FFII another try today :]

Re: ESRB Update: Four New WiiWare Games on the Way

Chipmunk777

wow!!!! a new 16-bit final fantasy!! And it's a sequel to my favorite FF too!! I am super excited about this! And I suspect when it gets an NA release it will top the charts for quite some time

Also, reading through these comments, I can't believe how many rpg haters there are on this site! RPG is my favorite genre, and pretty much any genre that mixes with RPG is great too (Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games). And at any rate, I have enjoyed every FF game in the series, except maybe for 2 (I've never been able to finish that one). I even like FF12! The story is so weak in that game, but the gameplay is so addicting.

But, I'm apparently alone in all of these views on WWW
