Re: Random: The Pokémon Company Re-Uploads Its Pokémon Unite Videos, And Fans Aren't Happy

Cen

This was a long time coming, but after Pokemon Sword/Shield, I'm just done with Pokemon. After years of stagnation of a franchise as hugely successful as Pokemon, they make a mainline Pokemon game that leaves out hundreds of Pokemon, moves, and mega evolutions. And so many more problems that shouldn't exist in a entry in a franchise like Pokemon. Very depressing to me as I've spent more time playing Pokemon games than any other game franchise in my life, with Silver version being my favorite game of all time. (First Pokemon game I played was Red version when I was 6-7, still remember the first time I played the game in the back seat of my family's car on the way home from the store)

With moving to the Switch they could have made something that represented the accumulation of 20 years of the Pokemon franchise. But instead, we got Sword and Shield. And it sold so many copy's it became the 4th best selling mainline Pokemon game. That puts the final nail in the coffin of any hopes for the future of Pokemon being anything but bleak.

I'm moving on to Shin Megami Tensei and Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth and not looking back.

But yeah, at least we have a new Poke Snap game, Pokemon GO, and Pokemon Unite! YAY!!! (/s urgh)

Re: Waifu Uncovered Mixes Bullet-Hell With Boobies, And Even Comes With A "One Finger" Mode

Welp, given the current climate, it's understandable why some people are getting up in arms over sexy/revealing/risque drawings. Reminds me of the big fuss over violence in video games in the 90s.

1. These are fictional characters. They have no rights because they are not real. It is in the realm of fantasy.
2. There is no evidence that shows consuming this content (or movies, tv shows, books) correlates with sexual harassment (or violence, murder, drug use, poor life decisions in general).
3. People that do commit said things would do those things without consuming video games, movies, tv shows, books, or other forms of entertainment, as they did for tens of thousands of years before such forms of entertainment existed.
4. No one should support censorship of any kind. Censorship is a bad thing for creators and consumers. If someone doesn't want to create something, or if someone doesn't want to buy something, that's completely fine and is their right. Same goes for people who want to create and consume such things.
5. Since fictional characters have no actual age beyond when they as a concept were created, their fictional age is irrelevant besides the story the creator is trying to portray. Beyond that, art is inherently subjective, one might look at the Mona Lisa and say she looks to be in her 50's, another might say she looks like she's in her 40's, and still another might say she looks like she's in her 30's, and so on. In actuality, the Mona Lisa is over 500 years old.
6. "This is not a pipe". (google it)
7. If some movie, book, tv show, or video game offends you, look away and move on with your day, your week, your year, your decade, and finally, with you life. Better yourself. Go make a difference helping real people with real problems that desperately need it. Worry not about some movie, book, tv show, or video game, because even if you make sure violent video games, or risque video games, or boring video games, or bad video games, will never be made again and all of them that were ever made was censored, removed from peoples' possession, and destroyed, violence, sexual harassment, murder, adultery, rape, gun violence, gangs, drug use and abuse, hunger, climate change, etc etc etc will still exist and will not be impacted in the slightest by doing so.

Anyway, good for Nintendo. Sony really dropped the ball with their censorship practices. The game doesn't look like my type of thing tho.

Re: Nintendo Talks Maintaining Momentum And More Announcements Coming This Year

Cen

IMO, I think the game line up for this year is fine, and the second half of this year is actually pretty good:

Octopath Traveler
Shining Resonance Refrain
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk
Snk Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy
Disgaea 1 Complete
SNK 40th Anniversary Collection

Plus by year's end we get:

Pokemon Let's Go
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The World Ends with You: Final Remix

These are just the games I'm planning on buying (all but Pokemon Let's Go). And there's plenty more coming out along the way.

One question that comes to mind when I see so many complaining about Nintendo is: Have they ever done it any differently?

Oh, and one more question: Has complaining about Nintendo become a new fad, or is there just ample angst/hate in the world to go around and now it's Nintendo's turn?

Re: Nintendo Is Considering A Successor To The 3DS According To Its New President

Cen

I love my 3DS, I still play it all the time. But I don't really believe we need the next generation of 3DS to come out yet. I feel like they should just focus on the Switch for the next couple of years while continuing to release select games on the 3DS.

Release games on the Switch that need the Switch's increased power/hardware, and release games on the 3DS that the 3DS can handle. As the Switch is both a home console and a handheld, and with the Switch having been released not that long ago, and with the absolute need of supporting the Switch, why put time and effort into developing another handheld system?

Put your main focus on the Switch. We don't need another WiiU mishap. The 3DS is fine for at least the next couple of years.

Re: Todd Howard Says Bethesda Will “Certainly Be Doing Things" With Switch In The Future

Cen

At this point, after how they've treated their best franchises (TES, Fallout), after Fallout 4, after milking Skyrim into oblivion (no pun intended), after the paid mods fiasco, how they seem more interested in making money than actually making video games or respecting their IPs, I'm just done with Bethesda. I'll keep an eye out for TES 6, but even then it's more out of pure worry and fear that it'll be like Fallout 4. Don't get me wrong, Fallout 4 was a good FPS, but horrible as a Fallout game.

I just pray Obsidian get's another shot at Fallout, or even TES. Now that I'd be excited for. They know how to make RPGs. Bethesda seems to no longer care about making RPGs, just as much cash as possible.

Re: Rumour: Google Is Creating A Gaming Platform To Rival Switch, PS4 and Xbox

Cen

sigh

"Hey, what should we do now?"

"Oh, I know, let's make a video game console!"

"Why would we do that? Isn't it almost impossible to compete against the three giant of the industry: Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft?

"Because even after throwing away a bunch of cash on the whole google glass thing we did a couple of years ago, we still have a ton of spare cash laying around and I thought we might as well throw that away too!"

"That does sound appealing."

"And we can also contribute and help usher in the next big crash! Wouldn't that be swell? "

Re: US Research Analyst Believes Gaming Could Become 100% Digital By 2022

Cen

Not going to happen.

By 2022:
50%? Sure
75%? Unlikely
100%? Just plain not going to happen

Now by 2050...

On a side note: while I do like the argument/example of vinyl, what if the next, or in a few generations, consoles down the line don't have a place for game cartridges/cds to be inserted and completely go digital? Is Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft going to release a special version of the system and special physical game cartridges/cds just for people who don't like digital when the whole idea of not releasing physical copies is that it's cheaper to produce and distribute? I don't think so. It may have happened for music, but how many people can actually see that happening for video games? That's where I think the whole "vinyl" argument goes down the drain when it comes to video games.

Just to make clear, I'm completely opposed to an all and only digital market for video games, but as time goes on and more and more people have decent access to the internet, and with it being cheaper in the short term for companies, it seems inevitable.
