People forget that whatever any company does is never, and I repeat never, in the best interest of the consumer. They have shareholders they first need to appease, then, the company itself, the product and the ability to remain relevant in the market. Consumer is below the radar besides what he/she can buy, nothing else, nothing less. Also, Sugimori is either alienated from reality and doesn't know the thousands of games already not available, either in physical or any other form, or he simply does not care. Nintendo is especially famous for holding on to their IPs, rarely making them available anyhwere else. Seems to have been more of an afterthought that the Switch has some old generations included. Understand they rather have clients not have a physical library in order to resell them later at higher prices in a bundle or "remaster library".
I don't understand why they keep releasing this... They clearly don't have the money to back it up and make it more affordable, like Valve or Nintendo have, and their devices tec isn't that much impressive, that one would choose this over the others. Even if I could buy this, I still wouldn't and get a Switch instead. This device looks like a nightmare in the making, since I believe it's not easy to repair or replace if something happens.
Konami, according to leaks, seems to be working on a new Silent Hill, since the days of SH:Downpour. Seems amazing that every so often, a leak will tell you a new game is coming...But, wait, now, not only one, but three... Let's all just forget that this exists. Konami doesn't and never seemed interested in this series since Silent Hill 1, and I think that will not change.
Statements like: "this happens everywhere", or "this is common", are the exact mindset that supports this things to still happen. In a day and age where everyone is "woke" and "pro civil rights", it does seem we do turn a blind eye more often than not. As long as those Apples, Zeldas, Halos, Red Dead Redemptions and whatnots keep coming, we certainly don't mind. We will defend you, but please keep bring us some Zelda. -What you said? You've been working 24/7, minimum wage? Well, at least you still have a job......
Why would anyone care? It's mot like they're doing anything with the IPs they own. And most of us, certainly, don't play Pachinko, to even realise this name change.
This is bad... A clear copy of HK,but with nothing to offer. Uninteresting combat, plataform and game design. Maybe the devs learned anything from this.
I don't think Nintendo will ever realise that pricing "evergreen" titles mostly at full price, doesn't help either... Mario and Zelda are the ones who sell the most, true, but if you ditch 350£ for a Switch, plus 49.99£ and 59.99£ for a "evergreen" title, it hurts. No wonder new Switch owners won't buy these straight away. Money doesn't fall off from trees, Nintendo. Make bigger discounts on older software, and maybe your sales will not decrease.
@Ventilator oh, I remember Dreamcast, and a game that I was really impressed by, especially, and I barely hear mention of it now: Headhunter. I thought back then it was amazing. And Shenmue nearly made me cry, stupid as it sounds, when I realised what games could actually be and do, to tell a history. And not mentioning that I always thought DC was the best way to experience my favourite game: Soul Reaver.
Dreamcast was lightyears away from the competition and they managed to pave way to on-line gaming as well. An amazing feat of tech, indeed. 😀
And I'm mostly excited with the Deck because of the horror games, since, let's face it, it's very lacking in the console world. 😂 Hopefully, Scorn will come out in my lifetime and I can play it on the go...
@Ventilator and I totally agree with you regarding the Deck. I'm pretty sure it won't sell as much as the Switch, if at all, but if successful, might show other companies that there is a market for affordable portable consoles, since the Aya Neo's and companie are all but affordable for the average consumers.
@Ventilator it is a very good game, although I didn't understood the ending and I finished it 3 times, especial ending included. Makes me wonder if they were being cryptic to follow with Little Nightmares trend back then, or if they simply didn't had much of a history to begin with.
@Ventilator fortunately, for these companies, numbers kept adding up. Look at Sony, selling millions in the middle of a global pandemic and recession. As for Nintendo, and as you said, they're stuck in the 80s,90s, and were literally saved by a nich most companies thought wouldn't sell anymore: portable gaming. A lot of people might not like it, but the Deck will for sure change the panorama of the gaming industry.
@Ventilator true. Hence why Nintendo always seemed to me like the grandfather who refuses to accept that the times have changed and we no longer need to ride horses to reach where we need to. I've always wondered how do they still exist, with such a retrograde thinking.
@Ventilator seems weird, actually. I suppose they get away due to no competition, differently to Steam and Epic, where there's usually massive sales. And BOTW still costing as much it does, with the second right next door, it's proof of that.
@Ventilator true. I have 105 games on my wishlist and at the moment, only 5 of them are discounted. I still cannot understand why Hellblade never seems to go on sale...
@FroZtedFlakerZz I just bought Lost In Random, and despite some repetitive combat, the game design is flawless. Totally advised for fans of Tim Burton, Malice in Wonderland and Little Nightmares. And the graphics, for the Switch, are really quite impressive.
With the arrival of the Deck, many of these ports will loose it's reason reason to be. I wonder how the Deck will affect the gaming industry as a whole, if it actually works.
@TheFullAndy totally agree with you. Or either these people are rich and have money to spend on "poor devs" or I'm just too poor to pity someone who I just gave money for a product I won't be able to use.
@russell-marlow another? The game was released in 2016, made by one person. I wouldn't consider it another, but yes, one of the first games to actually try and mimic DS/BB before everyone thought it was profitable. The game is indeed amazing when considering it was created by one developer.
@Medic_Alert true. Although the game was first released in May, 2016, a year after Bloodborne, making it one of the first DS/BB inspired games, even before everyone thought it was a trend. It's a good game, with a steep learning curve, but the low price on Steam makes it a 10/10 quality/price wise, which is something I only said about Hollow Knight until now.
@JasmineDragon this is a very good statement, and really grounded on reality. It seems like Covid became the excuse of the century for not doing your job. Specially desk jobs.
@Filth_Element that would be actually quite nice. I wouldn't mind a more open world game or at least larger areas to explore. In the series, the action is set in the town where Ash grew up, which didn't seem that big, and could make a good set for a horror game. ED always had a sense of humor, but the demons are of the most violent and brutal I've ever seen in any media, and that would make quite an unsettling design, if incorporated well. Maybe a Silent Hill kind of thing, but with the dark humour ED always had. A shame that the past games couldn't deliver this, and hopefully this one will, with more ED then battle royale.
@TheRealMW amazingly, I read all your thread, and unfortunately, you assumed that I care if this or any game gets delayed. And, by this, I'm 34 years old, I have plenty of other hobbies that do not include gaming or whining about when will the next Zelda be released. And, you are absolutely right, games get delayed and got by the pandemic, although I don't understand how a work that actually asks you to be in front of a computer can get delayed, no matter what people say. I work in the front line of the pandemic, as a carer and my job never got delayed because of anything, since I cannot afford to it. Delays are common with everything, true, but what amazes me is everyone assuming that delays mean quality, which doesn't. With this said, once again, I'm not a kid to be whining, or neither do I make gaming my first entertainment choice, but truth is, I'm 34, and some things I would rather be able to see before I get to a point where I can't or won't appreciate games. This all "ready when it's done", it's mostly for kids who think they'll live forever, and reality is more cruel than that. Some games like Duke Nukem took ages to release, and by the time they did, they were already outdated and their fanbase, now with lifes, wifes, husbands or kids, couldn't care less. So, don't say that it doesn't matter how long games or any media, take to come out. It does. Time is short, and shorter still now.
@Filth_Element mostly because from what they've shown, pretty graphics aside, the game seems more like a battle royale than anything else. Honestly, the idea of a horror BR never seemed enticing to me. The only one that, in my opinion, will work, is Outlast Trials.
Amazing would be if any game, at all, from the last 2 years, wasn't delayed. This is a new trend where no matter how long the game as been in production, it still needs "improvements". And everyone seems to defend this, as if a delay automatically means better quality. By the looks of it, so many games are "coming soon", like Scorn, that I will be playing it on my 80's. Not saying that a delay to improve is not good, but assuming better quality just because it will take a bit longer to be done, is just wishful thinking from those who don't understand how the industry really works. February will see a crazy amount of games coming, that if we don't include the rumor of Silksong in February also, so, a delay to "improve quality", seems outright lying.
Just by those images you can't actually see what the game would look like. Mostly because of the quality and size of the images. For what we know that could have been some kind of FMV game. Open-world back then might not have worked so well due to the consoles limitations but a kind of small bigger areas would have been nice, á lá Zelda - Ocarina of Time.
@ChromaticDracula it's been on my wishlist since it came out, but I read somewhere that it's quite short, so I might wait for a sale. It does seems creepy, and reminds me a lot of Silent Hill.
Just bought it and after playing for about 2 hours, I find it really hard to advise any other than the nostalgia gamer, to actually buy this game. Remastered, here, doesn't do much, and most of the levels are a confusing mess of labyrinthine design. You'll find yourself frustrated over the fact that you just passed the same door, over and over again. Platforming in this game is still as atrocious as it was in the previous consoles, (N64, PS1, DC), which are the versions I played. If you haven't heard of it, or you are in doubt, I advise to keep your money and wait for a sale or some magic update that, (doubtfully), improve this. A map would be a good inclusion. Anything at all that allows you to see your progression, would be a welcome inclusion. Would be a hard pass for me if I hadn't paid already. So, a 5/10 for me.
@Shambo you're absolutely right. I actually own most of the horror games on Switch, since that was the main reason for me to buy it. Maid of Sker I stopped halfway as well, for some reason, but still a good game. Tormented Souls I think it will get delayed, but hopefully not. XD Still waiting for Silent Hill on Switch. XD Not happening, but hey, one can dream. 😂
@ChromaticDracula and, with that, the Switch now has a very respectable horror games list, if you want to check. Games like Mundaum, Maid of Sker, Silver Chains, RE:Revelations 2, Outlast 1 and 2, and The Wine, are all worth checking if you're into Horror. Not much of a Silent Hill vibe in those, but still pretty good. Unfortunately, most Horror games on the Switch are always "Coming Soon". That's the date for most Switch games, for some reason.
@ChromaticDracula I'm not sure, but it does seem weird to me, you know? If you check their Facebook page, it looks like they have been working on light and face animations for ages, and with that, some years. After the PSvita version debacle I wouldn't put my trust on the company that much. I bought the Android version and the game is indeed good, although nothing new on the genre, and with some questionable design and gameplay choices of their part. Hopefully they improve the battle system, saves, and the enemy designs, which are, in my opinion, what needs the most improvements.
@ChromaticDracula honestly, at this moment, I really think Forgotten Memories will not release on the Switch. Seems to me it has been years since it was announced for it, and still nothing. And, it's not like they have to remake the all game, since it runs pretty well on Android.
@roboshort being born in the 80s I remember this well, and you are absolutely right, some of PlayStation's games looked horrible,to say the least and Tomb Raider was no different, (a game I could never get into, no matter how much I tried), but luckily, PlayStation had a catalog and a pletora of ideas that, despite looking bad, paved way for some memorable games for generations to come. Not being a fanboy of any console, I could and do admire now the technical skills needed to create something like Zelda: Ocarina of Time, in a 32mb cartridge, (a info I only read a few years ago). N64, Sega, PlayStation, etc, did some pretty amazing stuff, considering the hardware limitations back then. They managed to create some fish and chips, while having only chips to cook with and that is some kind of next level sorcery. 😂
@Specter_of-the_OLED "Ocean’s Heart is a love letter to the Legend of Zelda..." This is NL article itself, and at no point referring it has a Zelda fan made. Since I never heard of it or read about it anywhere, I stated only the obvious, just by looking at it's cover, a Zelda copy paste. Not saying this is good or bad, just saying that hopefully, gameplay wise, this has something else to offer, besides the basic that we can find in any Zelda "love letter" around, and by my accounts, those are one and a hundred. Oceanhorn was my last Zelda "inspired" and we all know how that game fared.
Bought it when it came, never touched it and when I decided to, halfway through my first dungeon run, game freezes. Not a good start with a dungeon crawler or roguelite, due to the punishment like save feature that most Dark Souls type of games seem to favour. Game seems okay, graphics wise, but this frozen thing just made me hate the game even more, as it should have been solved ages ago. 5 out of 10 just for the environments alone.
This doesn't seem "inspired by" but more like "copying it". Even the cover makes it look like a rip off, unfortunately. Hopefully, gameplay wise, will be very different.
Nice and pretty, although as referred, not worth 10£ and I'm happy I paid only 3£, otherwise it's money I could have given to a homeless, honestly. Unfortunately, I compare any indie game to Hollow Knight and Return of the Obra Dinn, which are in my opinion, the standards of quality-price relation and DC missed a few marks.
Tried it on PC and it's not, by any chance, a good game. Very uninspired design, to say the least. And, certainly not worth 16.99$, with way better games for half that price.
I'm hoping to get one and say bye bye to Nintendo. Aside from 2 or 3 exclusives worth mentioning, i can't see the appeal of a system that barely has no price cuts, and most games come out fully priced even if they are simple ports of 20 year old games. This Steam Deck is happy news to everyone who likes gaming, since Steam games are fairly priced, with discounts and, hold it, you don't have to buy over and over to play in different devices. I hope Nintendo learns a lesson with this but I'm fairly certain they won't, since it's a company built on nostalgia and old glory days.
@Shrapnel09, @__William2, @__Oui_Oui, @snabald, @__JamieMartin, @__whereskiki, @__mariozelda_fan, @__Ret55,@sashaboo, @__TheReaFONZ, @SKTTR, @Jogurt_the_Yogurt, @Toz, i was reading this comments here and wondering where are you guys, (the commenters of 2007-2008), after 14 years? @ChromaticDracula I'm not sure, but it does seem weird to me, you know? If you check their Facebook page, it looks like they have been working on light and face animations for ages, and with that, some years. After the PSvita version debacle I wouldn't put my trust on the company that much. I bought the Android version and the game is indeed good, although nothing new on the genre, and with some questionable design and gameplay choices of their part. Hopefully they improve the battle system, saves, and the enemy designs, which are, in my opinion, what needs the most improvements.
Re: Underworld Dreams Brings Old School Psychological Horror To Switch Soon
@ChromaticDracula honestly, at this moment, I really think Forgotten Memories will not release on the Switch. Seems to me it has been years since it was announced for it, and still nothing. And, it's not like they have to remake the all game, since it runs pretty well on Android.
Re: Zelda-Inspired Adventure 'Airoheart' Could Be A Treat For Fans Of A Link To The Past
So it's a common thing for "Zelda inspired", (instead of plain copys), to have Hearth or Earth in the name. Are these names choose by a random code?
Re: Random: The OG Tomb Raider Looks Amazing On Game Boy Advance
Re: Ocean's Heart Is A Cute Zelda-Inspired Adventure Destined For Switch
Re: Review: Gods Will Fall - An Addictive And Original Nintendo Switch Roguelike
Re: Ocean's Heart Is A Cute Zelda-Inspired Adventure Destined For Switch
This doesn't seem "inspired by" but more like "copying it". Even the cover makes it look like a rip off, unfortunately. Hopefully, gameplay wise, will be very different.
Re: Review: Donut County - A Sweet Little Puzzler In Need Of Extra Filling
Nice and pretty, although as referred, not worth 10£ and I'm happy I paid only 3£, otherwise it's money I could have given to a homeless, honestly.
Unfortunately, I compare any indie game to Hollow Knight and Return of the Obra Dinn, which are in my opinion, the standards of quality-price relation and DC missed a few marks.
Re: Skeletal Avenger Is A Roguelite 'Head-Chucking' Dungeon Crawler Coming To Switch
Tried it on PC and it's not, by any chance, a good game. Very uninspired design, to say the least. And, certainly not worth 16.99$, with way better games for half that price.
Re: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
@SKTTR sorry, just saw this now. Still playing, i see. Good to know I'm not the only 34 year old playing. 😂 I really feel old sometimes.
Re: Gabe Newell: Pricing Valve's Switch-Like Steam Deck Was "Painful"
I'm hoping to get one and say bye bye to Nintendo. Aside from 2 or 3 exclusives worth mentioning, i can't see the appeal of a system that barely has no price cuts, and most games come out fully priced even if they are simple ports of 20 year old games. This Steam Deck is happy news to everyone who likes gaming, since Steam games are fairly priced, with discounts and, hold it, you don't have to buy over and over to play in different devices. I hope Nintendo learns a lesson with this but I'm fairly certain they won't, since it's a company built on nostalgia and old glory days.
