The largest franchise in the world should be able to get a texture right, never mind polygon counts to the same degree as Breath of the Wild (which wasn't the most NPC populated game either but managed it). It looks like a Wii port at the moment sadly when you look at the grass and cliff sides. Which is frustrating when the concept behind the game looks so so good.
Arceus still needs a visual shot in the arm sadly. Those textures and cliff edges look like they’re from the Wii, not the Switch. Nintendo maybe needs to lend Game Freak a hand. At least the frame rate has been vastly improved so far, however.
This is a title I’ve wanted to see for a long time. And if SEGA are unwilling to do it themselves, getting someone else to grab the original composer is the next best thing. This is a day one purchase for me.
@x2brute auto-aim in Fortnite isn't a fair mod, the video shows the character automatically lining up with an opposing player's head without having to do a thing while they're walking past.
I'd have happily purchased the planned but cancelled sequel to this. I even during lockdown purchased a new GameCube dance mat to hook up with my Wii and try it out again.
@Dang69 he was the current Doctor yes, but all Doctors were in it. When you died you regenerated into the next Doctor complete with voiceover and relative soundtrack and TARDIS interior.
Worked exceptionally well on smartphone. Played through it in one sitting without realising the time when done haha.
I’d much rather see TT and the LEGO franchise take Doctor Who back on however. The work they put into the Dimensions pack was exceptional, and showed so much love and respect for the different eras of the show. I can only imagine how a fully fledged LEGO Doctor Who game would look.
Personally not keen on these Action Replay style devices which take half the challenge of a game away. What’s the point?
But even more so, the fact it mods online play? I’m not even a Fortnite fan, but I hope for the sake of the community Epic/Nintendo find a way of patching online use out or can work out users to block etc. It’s completely unfair for online competition. Do what you want I guess with your own games, but don’t ruin it for other people.
Makes sense really, at the end of the day the only people who will truly fight against this are the people who aren't thinking of everyone's general wellbeing as apposed to just their own. For the foreseeable this needs to be the norm in order to try and stop variants mutating as well as vulnerable people getting hurt. One day it'll ease I'm sure.
Another example of digital only gaming not lasting. I can’t imagine Dr Mario takes up that much server space in comparison to other games they own. If this is a struggle for them to maintain and even just say “the current levels are all you’re getting” and can’t just leave it running as it is then god help the bigger games. Still, this is why I predominantly still play physical games only that barely rely on internet connections. Hopefully the industry never supersedes the option.
I'm glad to see a decent sized audience now get to appreciate it, compared to the 3.5m in the first place on Wii. That means there's over 17m BotW gamers who'll have never played this before. That alone makes this release worth it. Never mind how it ties in with BotW2.
Sheik as a protagonist version of Zelda in a standalone title would 100% be more viable than just making Zelda playable instead of Link. I would be really intrigued by the change in narrative, gameplay, etc in that. It had never actually entered my head as a way to do it and give Zelda her own game. This would work far far better.
It almost lends itself to becoming an alternative series of games. When a Zelda game comes out, and Sheik is involved... what did she get up to off screen? What adventures and battles did she face to help Link get to Ganon. That's an interesting series of games that could be explored. You could even retroactively go back and explore something like Ocarina of Time as a story. Seeing it from an alternative perspective, like Wicked is for Wizard of Oz.
I don't see this as a competition in the slightest, and I don't think Nintendo or Valve do either. They're just parallel options for consumers to consider with different libraries of games. Yeah, the whole emulation argument is there now for people who just want to stir the pot, but I will own both of these devices, and still play Breath of the Wild on Switch. I can understand people wanting to emulate older games Nintendo refuse to bring to the Switch Online library from the N64, GameCube, etc... and it will do that brilliantly via Dolphin etc... but my Switch will still be my Switch, and the Deck will be where Steam becomes a portable, relaxed option.
DDR 2: Mario Mix we 100% needed... I really enjoyed that as a family party option on GameCube and had it still on the Wii for some time. I even about 2 years ago got a replacement mat from Amazon to keep the game playable after losing the original mat to water damage.
@Gwynbleidd Nintendo have never treated their staff badly. Of course infamously seeing Iwata shed millions from his own pay packet to keep everyone staffed and paid during the Wii U failure.
Any news of companies pushing cloud only based gaming is bad news to me personally. We should never lose physical media. It is yours to keep, usually far cheaper, and keeps far more people in work.
They appear to have been increasing their staff levels in recent months, which is why I think work on porting previous HD releases (whether it be TP or WW from Wii U, or now OoT and WW from 3DS) is still a thing being planned. They just don't want to steal Skyward Sword HD's thunder for now. Their E3 "nothing planned" comment can easily change. Afterall, Skyward Sword HD was supposedly not in the works according to Nintendo at one point also...
I can’t see how this could get a poor review anywhere without it being sour grapes. It was reviewed so highly in the first place, and then this time around they’ve ticked practically every tweak people wanted as QoL updates… it has to still be 9’s and 10’s (or equivalents thereof) from the majority of sites and publications.
I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt in terms of the pandemic effecting availability of DLSS and so on… but I would have rather them just not release this and wait till next year when a better model comes out anyway for BotW2 and Pokemon Arceus.
This is the 3DS XL of the Switch range, great for handheld gamers, but docked gamers should wait.
@noobish_hat it'll be like the hint stones in other remakes, because gamers seem to be less capable than ever when it comes to solving games. God knows how they'd have all managed in the NES/SNES days of Mega Man.
@Chaoticwhizz Go watch the IGN review of the original Wii release and decide from their opinion on actual story and level design whether it's worth it. Far more details than any complaining happening on Twitter haha.
@thehappyaerithch so were the other remasters though... and when the inflation rate is taken into account, it's actually the same price.
For me, a 480p 30fps game being retextured as 1080p 60fps is a remaster. A game that no longer alienates anyone who found motion control inaccessible, is a remaster. A company listening and tweaking reminders, and hints, and cutscenes, is a remaster.
I personally don't actually know what people were wanting from this as a remaster that they haven't done.
Wait for the Super Mario movie and it landing on Netflix, that'll be when it arrives on Switch Pro with a more robust entertainment package. However, I don't personally see the need in a world where our smart TV's and tablets have such easy access to them now.
Pre-ordered the purple Retrobit N64 controller. Have a Power A wireless GameCube, and now I'll have a wireless N64 too. Good for both the consoles and my Mac, so win win.
@YoungLink64 there is one more character confirmed after today, who I believe won't come on their own if it's the grand finale. A bit like Piranha Plant was a surprise addition. I think we may see the final DLC member, and then be surprised by Waluigi or something silly like that which doesn't waste a slot of actual DLC. Cause let's face it... Waluigi can't actually bring us anything, he doesn't have music or a stage etc. He's an echo fighter if anything.
One more DLC pack to come... but I do think whoever will be announced, will be joined by Waluigi as a punchline to the end of Smash Bros Ultimate's content. So it'll be someone, plus Waluigi. So 83 fighters as a final number... which feels wrong... oh who am I kidding, volume three Nintendo! Get it to 90 as a round number damn it!!!
The encore tracks at the Sonic Symphony (Escape from the City, Live and Learn) were truly astounding. That Symphonic Metal sound they created for the concert was phenomenal. It not only made me hope that the soundscape of Sonic would use that style moving forward, but it made me want a Sonic Adventure 3 so so much!
@Glitchling78 Completely agree, and the soundtracks also also some of the best 2D soundtracks in the Sonic franchise. You can almost hear the Sonic Advance series soundtracks as a transition between 2D and 3D eras. Ahead of their time in some respects. They 100% need to be part of a collection. Even if they just get Mania-esque "pixel remaster" releases on the eShop.
Finally got mine arrive today... hearing it without speaker filters, plane sounds, and other ambience ontop of it, actually shows the game does the soundtrack a disservice!
It sounds MIDI in the game, but actually it is live instruments and recorded properly. It's almost like listening to a different version! Really well put together. Literally nothing has been forgotten. And the two magazines and artwork book are printed lovely too.
I still don't understand why Bullseye doesn't have the final prize round. That's what the show was famous for. Winning a set of saucepans and a speedboat.
Just watching some gameplay... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XZth1mv3XA)... this had the budget of a dishcloth... it's not the right theme tune, it's not the correct voice for the scores, you don't even have a prize round to win a speedboat... really really odd. Cause all joking aside, this could have been quite fun.
That moment where their muppet bodies transform into the Star Fox team was one of the best reveals E3 has had... shame about the game...
But I do wish Nintendo would do more Muppets and Robot Chicken (you forgot that one) styled E3 events to keep them different to everyone else. The Nintendo Direct formula has been copied and done to death now (I think Sonic Central even used their voiceover!)... time for something more, Nintendo...
