@3Daniel I would imagine N64 games would be very difficult on a single joy-con due to the number of buttons. You'd have no C-Button options for example which makes OoT impossible to play.
I'm interested in the official ad talking about "enhanced resolution" and whether it will be using the same emulator as the 3D All Stars collection for SM64.
I'm not expecting enhanced textures in the same way SM64 did in the collection, but if it can have the same resolution for polygons than that's much better than I was expecting.
And for £3 a month, people really need to stop complaining...
Surely it depends on the game itself and what it needs. It shouldn't be about cost, or the longer the better. Some games would get dragged out, some games would be cut short. Something like Donut County for example is perfectly short for what it is, whereas some could argue Breath of the Wild is pointlessly long for the amount you get out of it towards the end. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
@WhiteUmbrella the number of people who watch Directs, compared to the millions of unit owners, is a minority. Therefore, the people who downvote a YouTube video, is a minority in comparison to the greater audience out there playing on their Switches. Just like the minority of users who complained about the Skyward Sword Amiibo, had no impact on how well the Amiibo sold.
@BlackenedHalo they're available in both formats. That's like complaining that Game Pass has games you lose access to when you stop subbing. They're available full price separately as well. Exact same principle.
£3 a month (when broken down) really isn't that bad for what we're getting. It really is crying over nothing in the grand scheme. But there's this online minority of Nintendo "fans" that wish to scream out about anything nowadays... Amiibo's, remasters, cost... that thankfully don't represent that greater majority.
There’ll always be newcomers to welcome to GO as well who need the Pokémon cycled and attainable, that’s without adding more and more gameplay features from newer entries in the series as new elements. Pokémon GO could continue forever really.
@Nymos By then the cost of the DLC as a standalone will be far cheaper to buy outright, and then visiting your creations (which will always be a physical local file anyway) will continue to work.
@BlackenedHalo I feel people are jumping to conclusions, and that if anything this is a preview of other ‘expansions’ coming to the service once games such as Splatoon 3 and Breath of the Wild 2 are with us.
That’s better than the previous DLC provided by NSO for Animal Crossing. The free rug you’re entitled to simply vanishes if you’re playing on a console with no subscription. So they’re not doing that this time at least.
I'm happy with the UK Family Plan price personally. It will be benefitting four devices, and will also give all of us access to the new Animal Crossing DLC as well as N64 content.. for me, that's very affordable. And for others, the individual plan works out at what... £3 a month? It's nothing...
Could we maybe finally get a re-release of the binders for Series 1-4 now, please? It's great that the cards are available again from time to time, but we kinda need something to keep them in haha.
Zero reason for these games to cloud based. When I see a game like Guardians of the Galaxy using cloud it doesn’t surprise me. When I see games that ran fine on last gen hardware using cloud, it just annoys me. Fans have waited so long for these games on a Nintendo platform, just make them physical Square…
I don't think this era has gone at all, it's merely sleeping. The success of the app Beatstar on iOS and Android recently is proof that people still enjoy rhythm music games. You just need to find the right way of doing it now.
Guitar Hero Live was a fun concept but ultimately didn't have longevity when you couldn't keep the tracks being offered. If GH went back to its roots with a more up-to-date soundtrack and found a way of relicensing the older sets to include as DLC, then I think they'd find an audience still.
Donkey Konga being rebooted on Switch is what we really need however...
Surreal to think I've just restarted the Batman Arkham series again tonight, and realised Tom Kane was part of the ensemble there too alongside LEGO Dimensions I recently replayed too. Such a loss to the industry, but completely understandable.
I'm quietly looking forward to this landing on my doorstep to slot into my GBA at the time. Hopefully in a similar manner to Shovel Knight we might have another indie mascot on our paws here.
First GBA Kickstarter I've felt the need to back after seeing the demo, the more good games are encouraged for older hardware the better in my opinion.
I would still say the Sonic Adventure series is the pinnacle of 3D Sonic gaming personally. Also, sadly I'd have to say the Switch outing of this version is probably the weakest link when you consider other platforms are now in 4K and 60fps in comparison.
@TryToBeHopeful as an Easter Egg in LEGO Dimensions there is. If you use the TARDIS in a select location in the Fantastic Beasts story, you land in the Series XI bunk room and find Bob and Madge there, along with a few corridors and the medi lab.
@nessisonett if you can it’s worth it, the sheer amount of content through the level and story packs is phenomenal. The level of attention to detail is mind boggling, and there are entire franchises like The Flintstones and Red Dwarf that have entire levels hidden as Easter Eggs. Just brilliant. The fact we didn’t get the final year of expansions was such a shame.
I agree it’s the best standalone Doctor Who game made to date.
I still feel however that the LEGO Dimensions level pack was the best take on Doctor Who in a video game ever. I would love TT and LEGO to make a full blown standalone Doctor Who game, if the attention to detail and love from Dimensions was put into it.
As much as I understand why sites such as this cover such fan projects, I do feel it’s time not to. Otherwise the exposure it generates almost guarantees their take down.
I wonder hypothetically whether something like the Steam Deck is ever really going to be capable of running a mod like this for a Switch title. Because I feel it would take something accessible like that for this level of community modding to become popular. If it's always going to need beefed-up gaming towers to achieve it, it'll always be niche.
@RadioHedgeFund I’d love to think that’s the real reason. But I genuinely think even once people feel safer long term, the aspect of effort will be too much still.
@Kirgo oh and it will sell like hot cakes... like Mario 3D All Stars and Skyward Sword HD did despite people's opinions. But here lies the issue... should issues be ignored just because people fly out in droves and spend money on it blindly because all most people see is a TV trailer and box on a shelf? Or should fans hold their favourite franchises accountable and know they can do much much better.
Games like Elements that has just been announced for Switch and Steam, looks far far crisper than Arceus. And it most certainly won't have the budget and team that Game Freak have at their disposal. There is no excuse. And it's not a case of complaining for the sake of it, it's complaining because the franchise, and the open world game people have wanted for many years now, deserves better.
@Kirgo The biggest complaints I've seen about Pokemon in recent years are mainly not Game Freak related... Pokemon Go as of late for example, not made by them. Diamond and Pearl's remakes not looking good enough, not made by them...
The last time Game Freak were criticised was Sword and Shield, for two reasons. One, visuals again. Two, making a game where the concept "Gotta Catch Em All" is no longer a valid tag line.
@johnvboy I just can't understand the logic of a game where grass, cliff edges, sand etc don't look sharp. That's just an image on a flat object. You can make that look as sharp as you want to. But their compression levels are making it look fuzzy as hell. Go and look at the shot of Wyrdeer on the cliff edge, and tell me the cliff doesn't look like it's from an older console. Because it does, it looks like the Wii, not the Switch.
EDIT: Actually, go and look at Elements, the game just revealed on this website tonight... made by Apogee Entertainment... whose biggest Nintendo game to date is porting Duke Nukem to DS... that game looks far far crisper than Game Freak have managed. And they're nowhere near the size of Game Freak as a company.
@VoidofLight The models are fine, the Pokemon themselves look very good... and thankfully have a decent frame rate now too. But they'll always look poor sadly because of the backdrop they're on. Not to mention clips in the new trailer where the Pokemon look like they're floating over their own shadows for example. That's where you have to stop and look at your product and go "do we really think that's the best clip to use right now?". Because it isn't.
@johnvboy you can still be a fan of something, and feel critical about something related to it. Does the concept of this game look amazing? 100%. Could the visuals (specifically the textures) do with a complete overhaul, also 100%.
The biggest issue here is The Pokemon Company get a free pass from its fan base over and over again. They just get away with it all the time. Games can be simplistic, and use particular art styles, and still look crisp on the hardware they're designed for. Indie devs manage it all the time.

And people who will sit there and be cynical about Nintendo not caring, and happy to sit there taking the cash for supposed sub-par work... need to start thinking the same for The Pokemon Company.
@Chowdaire I'm not comparing to movies or Pokken at all. Just like I wouldn't compare to Snap and its on-rails small worlds. I will however compare it to other open-world titles on the same console.
