Seriously, where the f*** is Banjo? That game was a huge part of the reason I bought the expansion. If they’re still releasing it this year like they said they were, they’re really cutting it close.
@Einherjar I never said China weren’t affected by covid, but they’re owners of a majority stake in the genesis of it. And they haven’t been held accountable for it by anyone. And more infuriating than that is the breathless defending western leftists provide them for it, labeling anyone willing to so much as question China’s role in covid a racist/xenophobe/Chinaphobe.
But you’re right. We live in insane times, where the side people take is the one that makes the most noise, and history and morality are completely secondary to fitting in and feeling empowered by everyone that’s on the same side as you.
@Einherjar Yep. I’m constantly baffled by the mental gymnastics people of progressive persuasions put themselves through to reach the conclusion that China deserves to be defended by them. Beyond their human rights atrocities, this country is having its way with the environment, and they’re responsible for the pandemic we’ve all been suffering through, which has killed millions of people and ruined economies.
Idk maybe it just comes down to communism. A lot of people really seem to think it’s cool these days and will defend it no matter what.
@thinkhector A: If you think corporations “captured” government, then it definitely happened much longer ago than the 1990’s. B: Consumerism has been the main thrust of culture since the industrial revolution. And C: Decades pretty much never feel distinct when we’ve just barely left them behind, but if anything has homogenized popular culture since the 90’s, it’s been the advent of the internet and rapid centralization of web culture.
@masterLEON I feel your pain. When we got the SNES, my parents gave our sometimes-malfunctioning NES, the zapper, the box it came in, and all its games to some relatives, who probably sold it to buy meth instead of giving it to their kids like they were supposed to. I protested pretty hard but they said I didn't need it and it was broken anyway.
Now that I know that the problem was probably just worn out springs on the pin connector, I wish I would have hidden the thing so they couldn't give it away! Would have been better to take the punishment and keep the system. And all those sweet, sweet games.
And man, to own a grey zapper and an original R.O.B.! That would be so cool. I feel cool just for owning a R.O.B. amiibo, owning the real thing would be another dimension of rad.
@OldManHermit @GameOtaku Definitely the orange ones. I saw a million of those (including my own) but I don't think I ever saw a single grey one in real life.
@CharlieGirl I think people take this topic too seriously. The vast majority of media out there is pretty crappy and plays on cheap emotional button-pushing of one type or another to hook people. But if it makes people happy, it's doing its job, which is to provide escape. Nothing wrong with that. And if nostalgia gives someone relief from the drudgery of life, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Something doesn't have to be comparable to Shakespeare to be valid.
@FixMadden22 Is this a joke? He's known for playing Doogie Howser, a b-tier role on another really seriously awful sitcom, and a cameo in Harold & Kumar. We're not talking about Daniel Day-Lewis here. This is exactly in his wheelhouse.
I don't mind the visual style. I think it stands out and is more interesting to look at than a lot of other games. But is literally everything in the entire game that same color the whole time? Because just watching this review was enough to make me sick of the color burnt sienna.
@Tendogamerxxx Lol you seem like a profoundly ridiculous person. I’m going to chalk it up to age. What are you, 17?
But yes, I’M the reason the Switch doesn’t have the power you personally wish it had. Me. One single guy who has literally zero input at Nintendo and zero influence over the gaming public at large. Just me, no one else. All those 90 million Switches that were sold? All me. I bought them all. And the like one billion Switch games that have sold? Also me. Nintendo saw that and said hey you know what, obviously we did everything right because this one guy buys everything related to the Switch so let’s just keep making this model for an entire generation and never upgrade it because this one guy seemingly doesn’t think it’s necessary.
As for Steam Deck, is anyone even buying that thing when it comes out? Last I heard they had like 100,000 preorders. Not exactly lighting the world on fire. But it’s also more expensive and doesn’t have much overlap with Switch in terms of its library, so it’s kind of in its own universe. People don’t buy Nintendo systems for power or for generic multi-plats that you can get on every system under the sun.
@Bustacap Duuhhhh what’s a tiem zone? What’s a US? I not know things.
JK, this is a really stupid comment. Clearly it goes without saying that when I say “it’s weird that it doesn’t release at midnight like everything else they put out ” that A: I’m referring to my own time zone and not implying that it will be a simultaneous launch in every territory, and B: that I’m basing it on experience and not just making it up as I go, so what’s even the point of your comment? Maybe try to not be an ***** for no reason.
@HammerGalladeBro That's what I want to know. I keep checking and there's still no sign of it anywhere. Weird that they would say it's releasing today but then not release it at midnight like virtually everything else they put out.
@Martijn87 I wouldn't say "always." NES was kind of on its own without any real competition when it came on the market. SNES was up against Genesis and that contest was kind of a toss-up. N64 was technically "more powerful" on paper but it was gimped by the use of cartridges vs. the PS1's CD's and it was harder to develop for than PS1 so a lot of that power was never tapped into by devs. Again, another toss-up. GameCube was definitely the most powerful console of its generation but like N64 before it, it was inhibited by the choice of media format. Those tiny discs meant games couldn't contain as much data as a game on PS2.
As for the handheld side, those were intentionally made with old tech that was massively underpowered compared to the competition. This started with Game Boy, which competed with systems like the Game Gear and the Lynx, and was true all the way down to the last pure handheld, the 3DS, which was up against the PS Vita.
So yeah, power alone has never been Nintendo's focus with their hardware, and it was never really used as marketing bait to hook customers, either. They've always focused on gameplay and how games are played.
@MrDinosaur Yeah I honestly think it’s not at all suited to some of the stuff they expect you to use it for. Seems like it wasn’t given the attention to refinement that it needed. By far my least favorite mechanic in this particular iteration.
@anzzjam Respond in what manner? Nothing I said was disrespectful or harsh, just expressing disagreement. Sorry, was I not supposed to use sarcasm or something?
@anzzjam Lol sorry but no. It's extremely common for studios to use policies like this, so it's probably not shocking to any of them that someone would be uncredited on a game they claimed to work on.
If you go into an interview, they're not going to break out their copy of Metroid Dread and scan through a thousand names trying to verify your role in its development. They'll look at your resume, look at your portfolio (which exists even if you're not credited in a game), and probably call some of your former bosses to verify some of your claims.
And hey cool, but the expectation is completely arbitrary. Literally all I care about is that I'm compensated, and that someone else doesn't try to take credit for my work. I've even done work where it was specifically stated ahead of time that I wouldn't be credited. I totally survived though, crazy thing!
@Yorumi Thanks for saying exactly what I've always thought. Literally billions of workers on this planet get zero credit or public recognition for their labor. Why is it somehow only deemed immoral when it happens to people working in creative mediums, who are typically paid much better than the average worker in the rest of the world?
Also, I would bet that >99% of the people slamming studios for this practice don't watch/read the credits on anything they consume. It's something people either skip, leave the room for, or passively observe as they wait to see if there's secret content after the credits.
@dBackLash I love when people condemn games and entire fandoms based off of one single, short, first-look trailer. Makes them seem really intelligent and open minded.
@MichaelP I honestly have no idea. I don’t pay attention to much that other people say these days. I just know that they’re constantly releasing new trailers and videos of this game.
The logo itself is boring but doesn’t offend me. But that tag line is just horrifyingly awful. Most people outside of Japan will just scratch their heads at it.
@Crockin I’m fine with more Country games. In fact I would basically kill for them. But I would also probably love something new. As others have said, it would be great to get a new 3D DK game. The series seems more prime for that than a lot of others, yet we only have one so far.
One thing I’ve always dreamed of is a 2D game in the vein of Country but very organic and realistic looking. Lush photorealistic jungles and mountains but from a side view. Closest examples I can think of is the Trine games, but even that’s a little more cartoony than I’m thinking.
@skywake Lol wow you take defending video game rumors a lot more seriously than I would ever expect anyone to. This is probably the first time I’ve made a single comment about this, on any site. I’m not the sort of person to grief outlets over content even when it’s egregiously obvious that it’s clickbait, and my usual policy is to just ignore rumor articles because it’s just boring to me. It’s not actual reporting. It’s just fluff. And that’s especially true when it’s a doubling-down article on a rumor that has so far already failed.
But I think your take is bizarrely off base. I’ve seen/read/heard an inestimable number of rumors that never came true in my ~32 years of obsessing over games, and the most intense failure rate has always surrounded Nintendo. There’s just something about that brand that makes people love to speculate about what they’re doing, and some people have learned to make a very good living off of keeping that rumor mill spinning. If you enjoy that, cool.
But I think you must be either relatively new to gaming or very young if you think these types of rumors are mostly accurate or that the articles that propagate them are actually important or even trying to be. They’re just trying to entertain you, which is fine.
For the record I would love for Game Boy games to show up on Switch. But I don’t believe that anyone within Nintendo’s organization is spilling that or any other insider info to gaming sites.
Also, predicting that N64 would come to NSO was roughly on par with predicting that the sun would come up tomorrow morning. We got NES first. Next came SNES. Literally everyone expected out loud that we were going to get N64 next because that was the system that came out after SNES (to state the obvious). Like, no crap?
The only thing that was a surprise was Genesis, and I don’t recall anyone predicting or leaking that. So to correct your record, the “leakers” got one of four things right. They predicted GB (didn’t happen), GBA (didn’t happen), and N64 (happened), and failed to predict Genesis. Why would they leave out the single most interesting piece of information from that lot?
And calling the OLED screen a win for the “leakers” is hilarious. These people/sites were predicting a Switch Pro. As in a revamped, more powerful Switch. All we got was a new screen and more storage and they’re like “look we were totally right! we were just slightly mis-calibrated is all!” But no. That’s a fail. A new screen does not amount to a pro model. It’s ALSO something that people have been predicting since like the same year Switch came out.
I’m sorry but I just can’t take these rumors seriously anymore. It’s starting to seriously erode credibility. Like what’s the track record with these leakers now, or the outlets that give them a platform? Their accuracy is clearly way off and I’m starting to believe that most of the ones they get right are just the result of dumb luck and playing the odds.
@Poodlestargenerica Um no it’s definitely a form of scam. It’s blatant market manipulation. It’s the opposite of honest. If it were stocks we were talking about, it would be considered an obvious pump-and-dump scheme.
@Splodge No, that would be annoying to the 99.9% of the viewers watching who don’t get seizures from flashing lights. It’s a video about glitches, I want to actually see the glitches.
If you personally suffer from seizures, fortunately for you they put a warning up front so if you keep watching and have a seizure, that’s on you. You can also just look away and just listen to the audio.
@Frailbay30 If I were talking about “criticism” then I would have specifically said so. I’m talking about the butthurt people, which clearly includes you, judging by your reply to me.
