Re: Fez Creator Believes Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is More Suited To Vita

AtomicToaster

The old psp controls were terrible, you had to use your index finger in a claw like position to make the camera work. But i bought an XL because games like this metal gear, and resident evil need that extra real estate.

He does have a point that the Vita is better suited simply because of the extra stick. But 3ds is selling better so we got the game. The lack of an extra stick isn't a deal breaker for me, especially since it now has a lock on like zelda. He should at least be playing on an XL if he's angry about screen size!

Get the Wiiu version! Online and off tv play (off tv coming in an update)!

Re: Talking Point: The Perils and Positives of a Packed Release Schedule

AtomicToaster

I'm in North America and it's already ridiculous here! I have Monster Hunter 3 for Wiiu, Lego City Undercover and Zombi U which I bought at a buy to get 1 sale. Then I got Need for speed on that Origin sale for 30 dollars, and I also got Darksiders 2, a new copy, for 30! I haven't even been able to pick up Luigi's Mansion and Fire Emblem yet which totally sucks! I really don't think I'm going multi platform this gen, I wanna support first and third party content on Wiiu and 3ds and there's no way I'd have time for another console, I'm not even touching steam, I'm ignoring it!

It's getting to be a bit like college again when all I had (because it was all I could afford) was a gamecube and a gameboy and that was more than plenty!

Re: Renegade Kid Reveals Upcoming 3DS eShop FPS - Cult County

AtomicToaster

Survival horror isn't really a genre that needs to be cutting edge graphics. Look at games like Amnesia, ZombiU and even the old Dementium on DS. The game is about atmosphere and sometimes atmosphere can't be attained it were a game with crazy jaw dropping AAA studio graphics. It's fine if things are a bit grainy and "film like" is what I mean. Actually old film stock was something used in awesome B flick horror movies even back in the day, no cutting edge HD, in fact it would probably take away from those older movies! Fact is, your brain does a lot of the imagining in these games.

Re: Wii U Version Of Dead Island: Riptide "Not Worth It", Says Deep Silver

AtomicToaster

I'd like to see this game come to Wiiu, because I'd like to see all games that can make it over make it over, but I probably wouldn't buy it because I'm not that excited about this franchise. If borderlands and bioshock made it over now that'd be another story and I probably will pick up Deus Ex. Saints Row and Dead Island weren't games I was gonna buy, so maybe they got me pegged on this one! I'm sure other Wiiu Owners would have grabbed em!

People are going to largely be going PC or new Xbox (unless microsoft screws up) and a Wiiu just like last gen I bet yah 5 bucks! I just want something comparable to the 3ds library, I don't need xbox 360 games on Wiiu necessarily.

Re: Talking Point: The Problem With 'Old' Wii U Ports

AtomicToaster

The thing is it'll have a sub par opening week and then go down in price and even gamers that want it on wiiu know that and will wait for the gae to hit the 40 to 30 dollar range. This desire to out smart the consumer with year old ports is what bights these devs in the butt!

Re: Talking Point: The Problem With 'Old' Wii U Ports

AtomicToaster

Yeah, every time a Sony console comes out it's assumed it's just going to sell in these insane quantities and kill the rest of the industry but the last three times they released hardware it did NOT go that way so I'm a little skeptical of all that hype, Especially since PS4 has no run out and buy feature that PS2 had (the built in dvd player no one had). PS4 has games you've played on PS3, that's not going to move units!'

We haven't seen Microsoft's console yet, so who knows. I do imagine that because they're a software company we're going to see something that feels a bit more brand new on that end and maybe that will move units? We'll see. The fact that they're waiting so long this time around to tell us seems a bit weird too! But maybe that's just so the competition doesn't have time to copy and they still want 360 consoles and games to be selling.

I'm sticking with steam unless 720 is too awesome to pass up or something.

Re: Talking Point: The Problem With 'Old' Wii U Ports

AtomicToaster

I'm happy with any big third party games that come to the Nintendo platform. The way the publisher sees it it takes a lot of resources to do simultaneous release because they need a separate team to handle the Wiiu content while they're trying to release on the other big platforms they care about, PC/PS3/Xbox360. But after the game is already been out for a year the marginal extra cash it would take to port it over with a small team working on it is less of a deal, and they're looking to get a few more sales at a premium on a console that doesn't have used versions of the game out in the wild for people to pick up for cheap. It's away to have an opening weekend all over again and how well it actually does is no bother to them as they didn't actually spend all that money PRODUCING this game, remember IT'S a PORT, the money has already been spent "It didn't sell well thing" is an excuse, it's just something they say to get more gamers to buy their lazy efforts at a premium in my view. It does sting when big third parties make a game for Wiiu from the ground up and it's awesome and it tanks however. I'm glad to hear Zombi U did well!

Re: Talking Point: The Problem With 'Old' Wii U Ports

AtomicToaster

"If these games arrive and fail then we face another generation where a Nintendo system may rely on the occasional big third-party game, some excellent efforts from smaller studios, indies and, or course, all of the first-party content Nintendo can muster."

That's what I'm on board for, anything else is just a bonus!

Re: Did You Catch The Super Mario Easter Egg In Castlevania: Mirror Of Fate?

AtomicToaster

Just finished it, will probably come back to it and play to 100 percent and to also play hard mode. I'd like to see a bigger outing and maybe focus on one character along with more exploration but this first game was a lot of fun! I think a lot of the complaints we're unwarranted. They're trying something new for the portable series and I'm sure we're going to see them expand on the ideas as they iron out a brand new formula!

I thought the game look pretty and the combat system was good. I don't get all the hate, I think it's mostly people that played the original games so obsessively and so many times that a change wasn't welcome, they wanted more of the same.

Sometimes I think if a reviewer is one of those types of people that plays a game like say Mario 64, a hundred million times. Well, they forget the flaws because they're good enough at the game that they adapted to all of the flaws. So when a new game comes out that tries to make improvements they say, "This is crap!" because they forget the old game had flaws, now the flaws are a formula that can't be improved on and they aren't as good at the new formula because they didn't spend a million hours over 20 years on the new title so they don't like it. It's a tough situation for game devs I'm sure. You're damned if you keep it the same and you're damned if you try something new!

Re: Dead Island: Riptide Is Skipping Wii U

AtomicToaster

@AlexSora89 Ps3 games will never run on Ps4 and Pen psngames don't transfer either. We're gonna have this really awkward transition. No one is going to want to pay 500 to abandon their entire game library especially with all the big.games still for.current Gen this year! I thought wiiu and 3ds at the very least had a smooth transition as you could at least play last Gen while waiting for content.

Re: Saints Row 4 is Skipping Wii U

AtomicToaster

That portable N64 is current gen, you couldn't make a portable N64 back in those days, just like you couldn't make something with PS3 and 360 graphics about the size of the original Wii! Is your tablet last gen because it isn't as powerful as your gaming tower?

Re: GameStop: Wii U Will Need Great First Party Titles To Compete

AtomicToaster

I wonder if Xbox doesn't sell well until COD, Gears, or Halo hits it if people are going to freak out, haha! I didn't find the PS4 line up too interesting, there's a realistic head and then some games that look a little better than games you can get on PS3.... okay that's a trailer? If it didn't say PS4 on the commercial most casual consumers probably would have thought those were all PS3 games! Maybe they got a megaton announcement for holidays but I don't think PS4 will have the buzz everyone expects. Every freakin' time a Sony console is coming out people think it's just gonna own like the PS2 and every darn time it doesn't meet expectations. Oh and Nintendo is always doomed to go third party publisher by the way, since the days they were supposed to surrender to Sony even, lol!

My main point being we're comparing Wiiu to last gen, this gen is going to be a whole different can of worms because the industry is struggling in general and no one knows what the adoption will be of Any of the major consoles.

Re: GameStop: Wii U Will Need Great First Party Titles To Compete

AtomicToaster

I don't know anyone that didn't expect this, you need NIntendo games to sell a Nintendo console and a 2d Mario game, however awesome, isn't going to justify a nearly 400 dollar purchase unless you're insane like me and have to have the new Nintendo console when it comes out! None of my Nintendo fanboy friends have even bought one because they still have a Ps3 or 360 and are waiting for a 3d mario or zelda game before they make the plunge given it's the most expensive Nintendo console in history. Also, 3ds shows a price drop may be in the works so people are waiting for that too! Right now I just use the thing for Netflix and to catch up on Wii titles I didn't play because I was gone traveling Europe for 2 years.

I think that Nintendo has more than a year head start on the competition simply because I feel the adoption rate of New Xbox and Playstation could likely be a very slow one. Slow to get true "next gen" titles. Slow to get adopters of the hardware (no backwards compatibility, still tons of games on their old platform, etc.) The way it works out Sony and Microsoft may have 2 years until the mainstream are buying the console and that's 3 years into the Wiiu's lifecycle, which is just insane to me! By the time Sony and Microsoft's consoles are viable platforms we could be looking forward to the next Nintendo console!

So I feel the other consoles have their own set of challenges as "Next Gen" platforms, all Nintendo has to do is a price drop and a ton of first party content, including the casual crap for the mainstream to go nuts for, a market they aren't even attempting to hit with Wiiu yet (but they will) and people will buy their console!

Re: Pachter: Wii U Will Sell Between 30 to 50 Million Units During Its Lifetime

AtomicToaster

I feel that dude is just paid to say Xbox will be successful and Gaming in the West for the win and Nintendo will die! But that's just me! It feels like a lot of these people skew towards the Big Corporate interests like they're giving it a freakin' blowjob and can't see clearly that it has it's own problems and compared to their problems Nintendo's are pretty marginal! lol, Where's talk of Sony's economic struggles? Just silent!

Re: Pachter: Wii U Will Sell Between 30 to 50 Million Units During Its Lifetime

AtomicToaster

I truly have no stake in the outcome. As long as Nintendo keeps making hardware I'll continue to buy it for their software. If they exit the console making industry I'll buy their software on other consoles. However, I feel like the media is skewed toward these giant monolithic companies that took over the industry years ago and now every time Nintendo releases hardware they're "Doomed", but the other consoles have their own problems! They have to release consoles at a loss in a poopy market at probably around 400 to 500 a pop and publishers are going to be expected to release more expensive games on these consoles to a smaller install base. Many people may not even pick up this console until 2016 onwards and by then we'll probably be hearing about the next Nintendo consoles. If there's anything nintendo does right it's maintaining a 5 year life cycle. This 10 year thing is just crazy with how much the market changes in just two years!

I don't think the world is a better place because Sega doesn't make consoles anymore and Nintendo bowing out would be sad as well! Those companies actually made good CONSOLES not just poopy PC's. That's actually why I really like the Wiiu, it's mostly just a CONSOLE, it's for games. If PS4 is headed the same direction it may be good too, they certainly have the first party content!

In five years graphics for portable devices will be so good we may not even see Nintendo leave hardware but instead combine their portable and home console into being one device somehow. I mean look at the Wiiu! It's almost there! People are taking the thing on train rides! I think that's the direction we'll see nintendo go in personally, but we'll see! Time will tell!

Re: Review: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate (3DS)

AtomicToaster

I laughed at people saying it's not "Castlevania", still felt like a Castlevania game to me! It ain't like the old school games but I can play the old school games, haha! I wonder if the industry is going to be more accepting of change. Back in the day something like Zelda II was a total freak out because it was a totally different direction and there had only been one Zelda game prior. These days we have a million games in a franchise like Zelda and Zelda II really stands out as it's own thing and it's totally fine. Same with MGS II, quite different for it's time and freaked people out but we've also had a ton of Metal Gear games since. I just wonder if the industry can stop freaking out at change knowing we're still going to get new titles and these series will continue to evolve and it's no big deal! I'm sure there will still be oldschool castlevania in the future!

The "It's not Symphony of the Night" fanboy reaction is just silly. I've played "Symphony of the Night" in one iteration or another (meaning that formula) like a million times now! This is the first time I threw in a Castlevania game on a portable and got something I didn't expect.

Also, they had years to perfect the formula of Metroidvania, this style of game is something brand new, I'm sure if they make sequels they'll be even better than this one!

Re: Review: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate (3DS)

AtomicToaster

I bought it..... and I like it! I've played the standard castlevania symphony of the night formula so many darn times that it WAS getting a bit tired. Not that I wouldn't go back to that style as well. This was a nice change of pace and I think with a few more instalments they'll probably perfect this formula as well. Only gripe is framerate but it's a pretty looking game nonetheless.
