Re: Interview: Marc Franklin - Nintendo of America

@JSuede

I actually don't think the WIiu is doing that poorly. I actually think it's got a lot of good games especially if you don't have a 360 or PS3 already. I think the delay on first party content is the same reason there was a delay on 3ds. They started this generation by giving third party an opportunity to lead on the platform while they developed content. It seemed commendable on paper but it didn't work out too well, they adjusted strategy and now their fine. There's no reason the Wiiu shouldn't be a similar situation. They'll adjust strategy, release a ton of content to get the system off the ground and be fine. I think that they didn't feel the NEED to say anything shows confidence. If they didn't have anything in the works Nintendo would be panicking about the poor sales but they aren't. They know people are going to buy the console when they see the games.

I'm holding out for E3. If the story doesn't change by then, I'll be a lot more worried for the console. You can't expect that kind of news in a Nintendo direct. All three companies are really on Radio silence on what they have for their home consoles because they don't want to give another company time to retaliate when they announce the big guns!

Re: Interview: Marc Franklin - Nintendo of America

I actually like how much the Zelda franchise has to go on. The fact that their can be a subcategory of Zelda sequel shows how different every iteration is. The unique Zelda formula is really just the thread that connects these games and allow them to consistently be different but appeal to a broad audience IMO. I've played through Phantom Hourglass and Skyward Sword and they don't even feel like the same experience.

Re: New 3DS Nintendo Direct to Broadcast on 17th April

AtomicToaster

I'm sure wiiu will rock e3 I get the feeling the competition isn't going to have much yet, looks like a lot of ports of current Gen games, and is also going to be expensive where the Wiiu should have a decent lineup of games unless things get delayed and that would be rough!

Re: New 3DS Nintendo Direct to Broadcast on 17th April

AtomicToaster

This is cool but we need some info on when games like Wonderful 101, Windwaker HD and Pikmin are hitting the console because we've got nothing on that front! Wiiu is in a drought and we don't even know when we're getting the launch games! I'm not saying spoil the stuff for E3, I just want to know about the stuff we were already promised!

For 3ds I'd like more entries in 1st party titles that aren't mario related. I get they released all those mario games to boost sales for the 3ds and assure 3rd parties, but I'd like to see a Metroid, Zelda, or Starfox, or even an Fzero! Yes please!

3ds is now doing pretty well so Nintendo can afford to experiment!

Re: Translated 1997 Interview with Miyamoto and Itoi Reveals Nintendo 64 Insights

AtomicToaster

N64 did keep it's quality over quantity promise. The PS1 had so many terrible games, not that it didn't have tons of good games as well, but people kind of forget that PS1 had so many unplayable games come out for it at the time! Quality was a real issue, much like on the Wii later! I think Nintendo hardware tends to age really well too. I'm totally considering picking up a Gamecube and N64 again because there were tons of games from studios your never going to get again!

Re: Hardware Review: 3DS Circle Pad Pro XL

AtomicToaster

I dont feel like i need it, its harder to reach the touch screen with my thumb when using it and im fine aiming with buttons or using the touch screen in monster hunter. I actually thought the controls were really good in the metal gear port without the circle pad, but thats me.

Re: Nintendo to Pull the Plug on Several Online Wii Channels

AtomicToaster

Wow scary! I've thought about buying a ps3 slim for last of us, but if its lights on a lot of stuff a few months in to Ps4 maybe I'll wait! This is an awkward time! You don't want to buy the old because they may stop supporting it in just a year but you don't want to buy the new yet because there won't be any games and no back compatibility. Its a good thing games are long because it sure is a waiting game!

Re: Talking Point: The Next-Gen Console War is Wii U's to Lose

AtomicToaster

I do feel like many developers will favour the other consoles over Nintendo even if they don't sell. Theyll put more faith in them eventually doing well than they will Nintendo. There's a lot of cronyism that goes on, even guys like Pachter seem like paid off analyst. It doesn't surprise me that he says Xbox will win, the problem with Nintendo is always that its not an Xbox with that guy!

Re: Interview: Michael Pachter On Wii U, 3DS And The Challenges Facing Nintendo This Generation

AtomicToaster

Saw this guy in a Sessler interview where he downplays some of the more troublesome things about the triple A industry as well as tell us that the new Xbox and PS4 will be "wonderful consoles" even though we haven't even seen Xbox yet. Then he goes on to say that the WIiu is a "Terrible product."

The Wiiu certainly isn't a "terrible product". If this new console is going to be a success, Pachter isn't going to be the guy that knows his bootie from his elbow on what's going to sell Wiiu units. He's been dead wrong so many times before I just don't understand why he's given so much attention. Because he says negative things about Nintendo products? He's been doing that for eight years now even when the last consoles from Nintendo were commercial successes.

Re: Interview: Michael Pachter On Wii U, 3DS And The Challenges Facing Nintendo This Generation

AtomicToaster

This guy says a few true things but then adds a spin to it that just doesn't work. Just because he doesn't see the value in wiiu doesn't mean consumers don't
The biggest problem with wiiu is that the mainstream just doesn't know about it or think its the same console. Nintendo is sure to recover those missteps this holiday I would think. 3ds hasn't even seen a Pokemon release and now it has new monster huntercoming. These consoles will do fine unless Nintendo just royally f things up.

Re: New Research Claims Wii U Success Hinges On A Price Cut

AtomicToaster

I'm sure if sales continue how they did the last couple of months it's going to see a 50 dollar price drop going into holiday 2013 with it's content of first party games for that season. It'll be going up against PS4 and 720 and they can proposition that they have great content NOW and are way cheaper than the competition. It hinges on the price of Xbox next and PS4, but I'm sure we'll see a price drop.

PS4 already sounds insane to me. You want me to buy a PS4 when all the good content coming out this year is on PS3 and PS4 isn't backwards compatible meanwhile PS3 is only like 250 now? LIke.... what? I don't see the proposition their making for early adoption. At least not yet. I don't have either and between the two I'd probably buy a PS3. Their in competition with their own console this coming gen!

Re: Talking Point: An Open Letter To Nintendo

AtomicToaster

I think people are overreacting to Nintendo making things looking "better" for the console than it was. It's called marketing. Sony and Microsoft do it too. It's called selling a product, if anything Nintendo should be doing more of it. "Hell yeah, this poop will cook your toast and butter it for you!" Buy this poop! Why did the Wii sell so well? The thing was marketed like it was the freakin' messiah of games!

Yes, back yourself up with great content too, but market you the poop out of what you got!

Since Tomb Raider was "a failure" after selling millions of copies, I'm sure we're going to see a port, I would bet next year actually.

Re: Talking Point: An Open Letter To Nintendo

AtomicToaster

This guy's problem is he bought a Nintendo console for Battlefield! He set himself up for dissapointment right there! He should have bought a high end PC or a 360 for that game. I didn't buy into the bullpoop from third parties so I'm not heartbroken. I'm happy with Lego CIty, New Super Mario Bros, Monster hunter and Zombi U... to me that was an awesome launch!

We're hearing this week about EA losing their head honcho and Square calling most of their major games failures... meanwhile the Wiiu just revealed how easy it is for devs to develop for it, maybe even easier or comparable to steam.

If Nintendo's gets content on Wiiu looks like 3ds I'm more than happy. I didn't buy the console for Battlefield. I think that was an unrealistic expectation to expect the AAA industry to back Nintendo when they have more ties to big companies like Microsoft and Sony than they do to Nintendo. (That's where the anti Nintendo stuff is coming from, it's seems to be part of their business model for these big companies to back their fellow monolithic corporations over a much smaller company like Nintendo).

For me, Nintendo wins if it makes killer games and houses great indie games and games from smaller studios. Everything else is a bonus!

This guy wants Nintendo how it was in 1980's. That was prior to the mega companies throwing their hats in the ring of the console industry. The fact that their even still around after all these years is damn incredible!

But what's interesting is we're seeing bad news bears for the AAA industry and meanwhile we're seeing Nintendo with two brand new great consoles that people are going to buy. Meanwhile, "NINTENDO DOOMED OMG"! Yeah, ok! If you wanted the support of all the mega corporate hugglebunnies and all their bullpoop I guess you lost out, go buy a 720! haha!

That's not anything against this fairly well written letter. It's just my opinion!

Re: Netflix Now Available on TVii

AtomicToaster

Tvii is meant to work as a meta search between all hulu amazon netflix and your television provider. The apps are too slow loading up to make it worth it. It is awesome for regular tv as it tells you whats live and jumps you to it buy typing the channel in for you. This app has a lot of potential but needs work! Half the time it doesnt work and takes you to dead links or doesnt show all thats available on the service and if it does work its still slower than just using the channel directly. Nintendo Tvii could be big for Nintendo but not in this state!

Re: Talking Point: The Download or Disc Dilemma

AtomicToaster

I think there's enough people out there that want hard copies of games to keep that market going for a very long time. I don't get used game hate from publishers it allows for game rentals so people can try out the game, people sell the game to buy more NEW games, and if your game is good people want to keep it and want a hard copy. Especially with Nintendo games, they've always made their games worth owning forever. I love games like Skyrim or Mario Galaxy where the studio is like, here's our game on disc! Buy it and keep this mofo! I used to like download, on steam and what not just like I used to like itunes but I've recently moved back to wanting hardcopies of the content I like. I think there's a market for both!

Re: Talking Point: The Download or Disc Dilemma

AtomicToaster

I don't think people "collect" CDs as often anymore but they do collect vinyls so maybe video games should go back to cartridges? The hard copy era is dying out but it'll be a sad day in many ways as we'll lose a lot of content to the ether without the hard copies. If the Xbox 720 is always online install only but PS4 is hard copy plus used games, we're sure as hell going to see people vote for what they want this gen! i like that Nintendo by and large is still relatively simple, you pop in the disc and it just works kind of company. I'm appreciating that even more this gen with Wiiu!

Re: Phil Fish: I Love Nintendo In Ways It Probably Doesn't Deserve

AtomicToaster

And the Ds could have had an analoug stick and better screen resolution too and the first gba could have been backlit, etc.etc. Its about the games at the end of the day. Nintendo handheld have always won over superior tech because they get the point of a handheld. It's tough for me to go back to not having a second touch screen even on Wiiu the big map feature adds a lot to gameplay!
