Didn't they want to improve their "Nintendo Switch Online" service? Why not make it a part of the service after the free limited time website is gone? So there would be a little bit more value coming to the paid membership.
@Damo Probably you are right with your last sentence as news nowadays have a very short expiration time. Being late on reporting the more asked information (or, even worse, ignoring them) would be like suicide in the long run.
On the other hand, reporting about smaller topics, being of interest for only a small group doesn't mean that you would/should be "a site which ONLY reports on stuff that people aren't interested or engaged with". Nobody wants you to do only such news coverage but also report these topics being of interest for smaller groups (again: with many small projects out there taking the mentioned RoR2 just as placeholder). This diversity in news coverage would make NL a place to go for such groups and make NL more interesting for existing longtime readers. Though I myself really like BotW, I often enough wonder if there's nothing else then the 99th BotW news, especially with mods being something you can only use with a (totally unofficially, of course) mod for the game. Can get exhausting. I know I don't have to read these articles, and I often enough ignore them, but I not do visit NL for getting the chance to ignoring articles but to get informed about a diversity of topics, being it software or hardware. Just my two cents.
@Damo "A quick glance at Google Analytics shows that Zelda: Breath of the Wild β despite being 3 years old β is of much, much more interest to the average web user than Risk of Rain 2 is."
Taking "Risk of Rain 2" just as a placeholder here, do I have to conclude: clicks over reporting news? Reporting news on a very selective (i.e. economically) base?
Just to complete the inspiration sources (taken from their Kickstarter site):
"Ray's the Dead features fast paced combat akin to Pikmin and Overlord, the high level adventure of The Legend of Zelda, and the off beat humor of Stubbs the Zombie."
The islands in "New Leaf" offered the chance to meet other players online and make friend, iirc. Not so in "New Horizons". Missed opportunity for enhancing the online experience a bit.
Maybe my English is not good enough so I misunderstand something here but why should "As much as possible, ..." exclude any changes to existing characters? Is this term not the same as "as far as possible" and just means "if possible, do only use characters already existing in the Mario universe but you are not restricted to them" and is not saying "Do not change any existing characters under no circumstances"?
So there should be room for more creativity regarding the characters?
Nintendo talk about making the Nintendo Online Service more attractive.
They should raise the fee by β¬ 5,- a year and let come XCloud to the Switch. This would make the Nintendo Online Service much more attractive.
Other than that they just do talking. And these rumored GBA games for the service. Well, one more older than old games library that probably will only offer a small and slow growing number of games.
Maybe not bad games at all but they'd best fit using the Switch in portable mode. On TV? Better not.
I miss meeting strangers on a mysterious island with the possibility to offer friendship to them. The way it now works to get friends into the game is not overwhelming as far as I don't overlook how to become friends with strangers.
I wonder why, as paid downloaded data is bound to your account. When I got a new Switch recently I had to realize that I would have to redownload everything I had on my SD card (more than 128 GB). Still haven't done so because of the time that is needed for doing that.
They should patch in that the Switch friends list will be used for the game instead of an own friends list for AC. Right now, you see a friend going online, playing AC, but you can't visit him until you get a Dodo code for a visit and get added ingame as a friend. Stupid way ignoring a built-in feature of the Switch.
Question: Does "If you own both Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp for mobile devices and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, youβll receive special items in each game" mean that you have to have both (!) games connected to your account to get the special items for AC on the Switch?
@liam_doolan
As this article originally was released at the end November and was only updated now, why is this not reflected in the headline on the main page?
@those who thank the leakers for leaking info and helping avoiding/making a decision on buying or not.
If the leaked information were gathered in illegal ways TPC has the law on their side. like it or not.
And when it comes to deciding whether to buy or not...
Maybe, just maybe, some of you are smart enough to wait until a game's release and the then upcoming reviews, be it written or in video format, and then decide on getting a game or not.
If you think preordering is the way to go and then mourning that a game is mediocre (or worse) then it's just your impatience.
And some people out there may be old enough to remember those days when reviews and magazine articles were the only way to get information about a title and thus waited until those reviews/articles were out and could be read and then made up their mind and decision.
Just because people don't want to wait until a company has released its latest title really does not legitimate leaking information gathered by breaking arrangements made.
And to be honest, though I like it, too, to hear about a new interesting title being in the works, these leaks just destroy a lot of surprise effects such a title would otherwise offer when being played for the first time.
Unfortunately games developers and distribution companies themselves aren't any better when announcing games one, two or even more years in advanvce of the planned release and afterwards drop information only peu Γ peu. These developers/companies really should wait until around six months before release when there really isn't more to do then the last testing phase, when the beta phase has been left.
@link3710
A good argument. And looking at other publishers who have done something similar when they released games in Japan and six months to a year later in the west naming translation works as reason probably at least part of the decision.
@link3710 Basically, I think you are right. On the other hand it seems that this game is not that special in story and gameplay (as little as I do know) that there is no reason to not release it outside China, too. "Journey to the West", which it is said to be based on, was used several times as inspiration for a video game and thus is not completely unknown and new to video gamers. Party games - when well done - are also welcome in the gaming world all over the world.
It's funny that Nintendo wants to push the Switch's handheld functionality, especially with the release of the Switch Lite, but does seem to have no intention to carry over this wonderful feature from the 3DS to the Switch. What may hinder them from doing so? One feature too much for the Switch? Too battery demanding?
While I can understand creating a title exclusive to a specific console, I wonder what makes a publisher developing a game for being released exclusive in one single country. Any ideas?
@PickledKong64 LM3 is available on Amazon.fr for β¬ 44,49 right now. Somewhat lower than the launch price, isn't it? So no need for a Nintendo fan to save 60 bucks for a Nintendo game. π
I think the intention is not to make you pay to participate in a beta but just limit the number of participants to those with a gold pass to be able to (hopefully) do a controlled server stress test next to testing the MP itself. What comes after the beta - who knows. A company that hides the 200 cc cup behind a paywall may also hide the MP of the same game behind a pay wall.
Btw, Amazon Germany offers the physical version of "Luigi's Mansion 3" for β¬ 47,99. The download code, they are selling, costs β¬ 59,99. Now I know why: it's the missing online multiplayer. π
"Luigi's Mansion 3" comes with local and online multiplayer, stated on the rear cover, right? No mention of the need of a patch to play the online MP, correct?
But then the online MP is only(!) available after downloading a patch. So, a mode named being part of the game right from the start is missing... no uproar... instead a discussion about advantages/disadvantages of physical vs digital...
Is there anything I didn't notice? Is it because the publisher is Nintendo and not EA, not Ubisoft, not Activision?
Weird discussion, really.
@Scollurio I appreciate the possibility to have options, too. But I have to admit that I am not that good in aiming with the whole console in hand. With Splatoon on Wii U, I was better with the gamepad for aiming than with a Pro controller. I'm not really good in shooting games in general so that doesn't say much. But I gad a better feeling when playing with the gamepad. I got better along, so for me it was more fun. In the end, though, it depends on the quality of the implementation. Well done it's worth at least a real try.
@Scollurio What speaks against motion controls, especially when they are implemented as one option and not as the only option? Well implemented, they enrich the gaming experience - if you are willing to try them out and not just refusing to use this kind of controls. And I think it brings more to an immersive gaming experience than playing with a gamepad. But in the end, if you prefer playing with gamepad because motion control is nothing for you, that's okay.
That said, is it possible for programmers to use the Joy-Cons in a way similar to Nunjuk and Wiimote on Wii? I really liked it using the Nunchuk for steering and the Wiimote for aiming/pointing/and grabbing/moving things. This way of using the Wiimote felt much better than aiming/pointing and grabbing/moving things with a gamepad does.
If anyone buys the Switch Lite because of its more compact size and the resulting better portability (is it really more portable?) over the normally sized Switch - why buying grips that make the Lite bigger again? Somewhat weird thought imo.
@JasmineDragon
I don't know, to be honest, but I'm not interested in these games, so this is not so important to me.
It's more the statement itself, I think it's not so well worded.

In the end it's plain and simple an economic decision.
@Liam_Doolan

Don't you think so?
"... this update reportedly fixes some bugs and adds in voice chat support for Android 9 devices."
Does this mean that people with Android 9.x on their devices couldn't use the voice chat feature before this update?
@BlueOcean Remember some docks bricking the Switch after an OS update? So better do not count on a third party solution. You never know what Nintendo will come up with in a future firmware update. Serious question: Will uploads like this be possible in the EU once the coming new copyright guideline with the article 17 (formerly article 13 in the draft) comes into effect?
As was said above, XBox Live is switched to auto renewal when you subscribe. To revert this you have to do it manually - of course -, and there's no opt-in or opt-out when subscribing for the service. The worst thing, though, is that while you can subscribe via the MS store on the console itself you can't unsubscribe within your account management on the XBox (or I just overlook it everytime) but instead you have to visit the MS website and switch it off there in the account settings. So it's no simple one or two button action.
@Dazzle Why do you think so? Though I have to admit the trailer does not show any puzzling parts. At least a game without 8 bit graphics coming to the Switch. A first highlight of this game.
And for those living in the EU but not in the UK it's around β¬ 19,99 (incl. VAT, source: German eShop). The British Pound is not far spreaded in the EU.
Maybe @Nintendo Life you could bear this in mind when mentioning a game's price. You list the prices as if the EU and Australia would use the GBP as currency as the UK does. But that's not the case, it's simply wrong.
Edit: And a game's price in Canadian dollars is afaik normally higher than in US dollars.
