Update 3 Fri 25th Oct, 2019 10:45 BST: As spotted by Magician on the Nintendo Life forums, an Amazon.com listing appears to show that the game will be digital-only, with the 'physical' version being a code-in-a-box. It's up on Amazon for $19.99.
Update 2 - Fri 25th Oct, 2019 06:10 BST: Techland has officially confirmed Call of Juarez: Gunslinger for Nintendo Switch. It'll be released on 10th December 2019 and is enhanced with motion controls and rumble. Above is the announcement trailer.
Update - Sun 20th Oct, 2019 13:05 BST: Following a rating by the ESRB earlier this month, Techland has seemingly started teasing Call of Juarez: Gunslinger for Switch.
It recently sent out a postcard to select media (thanks, VG247), showing a picture of a gunslinger playing what appears to be the recently rated game on the Nintendo Switch. The back of this postcard says "more" will be revealed on 24th October. Take a look below:
Keep an eye out for a more official announcement next week.
Original Story - Wed 9th Oct, 2019 04:15 BST: A Nintendo Switch version of the western-themed first-person shooter Call of Juarez: Gunslinger has been rated by North America's Entertainment Software Rating Board.
This game was first released in 2013 by publisher Ubisoft and was acquired by Techland in 2018. It's the fourth entry in the Call of Juarez series and received positive reviews by critics when it was originally released.
There's been no mention before now about Call of Juarez: Gunslinger coming to the Switch, so we're guessing a more official announcement is on the way.

Didn’t this game get a lot of backlash for its portrayal of Mexicans or is that a different installment?
@brandonbwii
Maybe you're thinking about Call of Juarez: The Cartel?
Potentially. I have no idea really.
Sounds like a parody of Call of Duty.
@Heavyarms55
lol nah. It's an entirely separate franchise with four installments that's been around for a while. Just a similar name
I really liked this one back in the day. I may have to double dip, depending on the price.
This game is quite cool, and gun mechanics is better than in Red Dead Redemption 2.
@JR150 Oh. I'm guess this'll be the first time on a Nintendo platform then? I'm kinda surprised I haven't heard of it otherwise.
Played one of those Call of Juarez on PC and it was good fun! Looking forward to this one.
Ah Back in days on PC was soo fun,Looking forward for it
Absolutely amazing, I hope they release the rest of the series too! Never got to finish the second game on pc. One of my favourite game series ever. Will be a lot of fun with the gyro controls!
60fps please and this is a no brainer
@Heavyarms55 no that’s call of booty
Looks good. Definitely picking this one up
It was a fun but largely forgettable experience when it came out. I would not double dip, but depending on the price, it could be a descent FPS experience for the Switch for newcomers.
I enjoyed this back in the day and it had an interesting story and a good score mechanic for shooting multiple targets so I'll probably pick it up.
Enjoyed the Call of Juarez games. Might pick this up again.
This is by the same developer who make Dying Light. They said a few weeks ago they would be bringing one of their games to Switch, it could only be Call of Juarez, Dead Island or Dying Light. I had hoped for the latter but Call of Juarez looks alright too. I'll get it but it depends on the price.
Yay! I can't get enough old west FPS so this is a buy for me, now how about a remaster of Dead Man's Hand?
@marck13 that's a way cool user pic, what is it exactly?
@nin10dobot pretty sure it’s maiden of black water
If you like shooting, shooting, and shooting, you will enjoy this game.
It doesn´t offer anything else.
Not a game for everyone, I played with some friends, and we didn´t even finish it. Too boring.
Cartel was terrible, this one is supposed to be good. Missed out on PS3, might be a great game to play on the go.
Great game! I enjoyed it on PS3! A solid addition to the Switch library!
This game was dang good. I'm pretty excited. Replayed it earlier this year, and it holds up very well.
My favourite Western-shooter-game by far. Yes, as far as the actual action within that setting goes, it steals the cake fron all others, it's prequels, GUN, the RD-franchise ... hands down. If you are looking for a deep engaging world or tight narrative though ... go look elsewhere. It's more like an arcade game of sorts in that regard.
Still, the shooting is bloody brilliant and a helluva lot of fun. Highly recommend for any fans of Spaghetti-Western.
I would prefer a Switch port of Dying Light from Techland.
Played this game on my Xbox 360 and it was really fun! Hope that Homeland make another CoJ.. or even bring the 2 first games on Switch
It's a Ubisoft.........
Absolutely LOVED Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood on the PS3. Think I played half of the first one too on 360 so would definitely pick this up. Wasn't a fan of The Cartel one though.
@nin10dobot
Thx, it’s from the Wii U exclusive Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water
@marck13
👌
No multiplayer. It would be nice if they could add some.
This seems like it’d be really fun on Switch. I want it.
A 6 year old Mediocre game, I can play right now for $7 if I wanted.
Yep, exciting stuff right there 🙄
GREAT GAME !!!
i can highly recommend Gunslinger. it is the best of the series and worth more than a single playthrough. the artstyle makes it look really nice even after a few years.
@Agramonte dont mock Nintendos Third Party support... just wait till next holidays when we get all the good ports in 480P.
I really need dying light on switch, best zombie game ever
@Agramonte
You’re downplaying. Clearly it’s exciting for quite a few people, as you can see in the comments.
If you only want to play cutting edge releases, best to go play games somewhere else. Doesn’t matter if a game is 6 years old, 2 years old, 10 years old... Games don’t spoil like milk. If it’s a good game it’s a good game, and that’s all that matters.
If you think it’s mediocre that’s a perfectly valid criticism, for you. Not for others. But how old it is means jack, especially for a handheld system where console games 5-10 years old are the sweet spot for the system’s strength.
And it bares mentioning, the only reason you can play for less is because you waited 6 years after release for the price to drop. Which means you should have no problem waiting 6 years after the Switch release for its price to drop. Pound for pound. But it’s kind of a moot point anyways considering the fact these 7th gen ported games and remasters get released on PS4/X1/PC for the exact same price alongside Switch.
Don’t downplay. It’s a sign of insecurity. All you had to say was you didn’t think the game is that good (although if you’re talking about buying it elsewhere that suggest you don’t even own it which kind of calls your opinion into question) and leave it at that.
I hope it has gyro aiming. I have this great game for PC, but I am not going to buy it again without motion aiming.
@Quenaelin
I can appreciate that. Gyro makes these games play better than any other version. Sniper Elite III was so good. One of the best looking games on a handheld to date, and the Splatoon-like gyro aiming made sniping incredibly fun.
I’ll be eagerly awaiting news of gyro for Juarez. May buy it anyways depending on reviews, but gyro would make it a for sure lock. It’s really hard playing FPS with sticks once you’ve tasted the sweet nectar of gyro 😁
I thought this game was awesome and I loved the narrative hook. I’d get it on sale, or if the price was right.
So now that Techland is experienced with programming for the switch, give us dying light complete edition too ;D
The arcade mode in this game is probably some of the coolest shooting ever done in any western game.
@JaxonH except Witches 3 topped out at 16th on the best seller list on the NA Eshop list. So you may have a few people on here talking like these ports are third party game changers and that graphics don't matter or the age of the game or the price. But the Eshop in NA says that's not true. It's a vocal minority in here claiming that it's good enough but the majority are voting with their wallets. I mean Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun is dominating witcher 3. Who would have expected that.
@sixrings To be fair, you're comparing a digital only in the west game to the first game in the west that's on a 32GB cartridge. If any game is going to be attractive physically, it's Witcher 3.
@link3710 I can't wait to see the actual sales numbers. Without those numbers anything just sounds like an excuse.
@sixrings I mean, fair, but when you consider that Taiko no Tatsujin is 60% off ($20) as well... I think it's apples to oranges. Actual numbers mean a lot more than what's beating what on the charts.
@sixrings
except Witches 3 topped out at 16th on the best seller list on the NA Eshop list
Wow... Take another look- it’s up to #11. Your words are crumbling as you speak. Trying to use sales numbers to downplay the legitimacy of certain games is juvenile.
Furthermore, Witcher 3 is the biggest digital game released on Switch in the history of the console’s lifespan at 30gb. And it’s all on the cart physically, which is where most sales will be. The game dominated at the top of the Amazon Best Sellers list for the past week, sold out, came back in stock and is now climbing back up and already back in the top 20. The game is doing exceedingly well. And as a game that already released on other platforms a few years ago.
And for the record, Drum Master is 60% off, and never released physically in NA. So 100% of sales here will be digital. Whereas only 5-10% of Witcher’s sales will be digital. All that means is a digital-only game with an orange clearance sticker has done about as well as 5-10% digital sales of the first few days of a fully priced AAA game release.
Obviously demand for handheld AAA games is less than console AAA games, even moreso when they release later, but that doesn’t mean the demand that does exist “doesn’t count”. I don’t care if it’s 500k people who are interested in it, 1 million, 3 million or 10 million. The people who are interested in it are loving it to death, and that more than justifies its existence. These games are game changers. Full AAA games on a hybrid handheld? Absolutely. No longer do you have to be tethered to a television to play AAA games. But even if they weren’t, so what? You’re not here to talk about great games, you’re here to try to downplay games on Switch due to the insecurity of not being able to handle seeing other people have such a great time with them. It’s a golden era of gaming right now for a lot of Switch gamers. Why try to downplay that?
@sixrings
But it hasn’t topped out at #16? Witcher 3 is #11 on the NA ESHOP and it still has another week before it should fall of the chart (when the ESHOP stops counting launch sales).
@JaxonH Not Downplaying anything. This game is not a classic, it is a meh game. And every old port gets praises here - and when it sells a fraction on Switch... same people use my point - "it is late and available elsewhere" 🙃
Exactly... they do not spoil. So for everyone like me, who has multiple hardware this has been an option for years now. So long, it is now dirt cheap
I have said this a million times... it can be on X1, PS4 or Steam - being on new hardware does not make mediocre old games relevant again. If this stuff was announced for PS5 two years from now, tons of people with a Switch will not care either (even less if at 2 year old pricing on a machine they already have)
Na, Other way around. Insecurity would be trying to elevate nonsense into something special even when it is not.
Nop, I actually own it. But not the point I wanted to make - that right now (this stuff not even announced on Switch) people can play for cheap. They been able for ages.
Before it was on the switch all I heard was BOTW best open game ever. And who cares about other games on the other consoles. It comes to switch and all of a sudden it's best game ever. Sure 11. Congrats.
@sixrings
Before it was on Switch, all I heard was “Witcher 3 is the game of the generation”. Who cares about Switch games. But now it comes to Switch and all of a sudden it’s “that’s not exciting”. Sure. Congrats.
See, it goes both ways.
And just because Witcher 3 is an excellent game doesn’t take anything away from BotW. Zelda is still one of the best games ever made. And in the opinion of many, so is Witcher 3. And now Switch has both, so people can enjoy both. It’s not a competition.
@Agramonte
It very well may be meh. I never claimed it was or wasn’t. I haven’t played it and can’t comment on it. But I do know that a great many people consider it a good game, so I’m going to listen to the consensus of the community and reviewers before forming any conclusions. Most importantly, I’ll judge for myself, since I have played games reviewers were “meh” on only to discover I love them to death.
But my response was more aimed at trying to knock it for being a 7th gen release, which is obviously going to be cheaper. 7th gen games get ported to Switch, PS4, X1 and PC all the time. And people buy them on every console. And they buy them for a much higher price at that, even despite the fact they could technically play it cheaper elsewhere. Either they want a remastered version, or they want the freedom of a hybrid “play anywhere” version. And that’s exciting for a lot of people.
The reason Switch fans won’t care for a PS5 release, is because Switch fans value hybrid gaming. They have no problem with games they already played being ported, as long as it’s a hybrid version. hence why all the Wii U ports do so well. I can appreciate if you personally already played it and don’t want to buy it again, but your comment made it sound like nobody should be excited for it because “it’s old and cheaper elsewhere” or because you personally declare it as “mediocre”.
@JaxonH all I know is Nintendo has been the king of the hill in the past and arrogance saw them fall behind time and time again. The Wii flew off shelves for a few years and then the tech was so archaic it started being a shovelwear system and people left for 360 and PS3. Just because Nintendo is doing well now doesn't mean it will be once PS5 and XBS come out. You're assuming that people will still care about portability over graphics when the new systems come out but that might not be the case. I hope the best for Nintendo but I have a hard time seeing how a sub 1080p system is realistically going to compete with 4K and 8K systems. It may work. I'm skeptical.
@sixrings
because Nintendo is doing well now doesn't mean it will be once PS5 and XBS come out
Why don’t we let the future speak for itself when the time comes, rather than speculate about what “might” happen.
That’s such a silly thing to even say anyways. By the time those systems come out Switch will already be nearly 4 years old and 65-70 million units sold. The masses aren’t going to suddenly stop caring about Switch just because better graphics exist. Much better graphics already exist and nobody cares. Dialing the knob up a few more notches isn’t going to change anything.
A “sub 1080p system” is going to compete because it’s the most technically advanced dedicated gaming handheld in the world and the only hybrid system on the market, and offers tons of great games. And will be 1/3 of the price at that point. You think PS4 graphics aren’t enough to cause people to not care about Switch (which clearly they aren’t, since Switch is so popular), but PS5 graphics will be? Like people are suddenly going to say “Well that’s it! Graphics have gotten soooo much better I just don’t even want to play games anywhere anymore”. Come on. Next systems aren’t even going to look that much better than the current ones thanks to diminishing returns. But even if they were miles ahead, nobody’s going to care to the point they stop wanting to play Switch.
You can crank up the “k” all the way to 10,000 and it’s not gonna change the fact people like a system where they can play anywhere, not to mention, nobody even has 8KTVs, and it’ll take 10 more years just to see everyone adopt 4Ktvs, let alone 8k (not to mention the fact 8k offers little to no return unless you’re on a 100” projector anyways). Current systems already do 4K and it hasn’t changed squat for Switch. And FYI, next systems aren’t doing 8k. That’s just ridiculous. They might have the ability to output a signal that high but the games are not going to run higher than 4K.
Anyone who cares about graphics so much they would have no interest in Switch already has no interest in Switch.
@sixrings How did a 240p handheld (the 3DS) survive the launch of 2 1080p consoles? Especially when it had a more technically superior rival that had many popular Western and Japanese publishers backing it with many ports of recent popular games, yet that handheld failed.
Great game and the way the story is told is pretty damn cool.
@Toy_Link it was a handheld. With a $100 Canadian starting price tag including a game. The games were $39 at max. Now we're talking about a system which is cheapest at $279.00 with major first party games $79 plus whatever DLC costs. Totally different animal.
@JaxonH people bought FIFA on 4k machines. It's constantly number 1. Some people do care.
@sixrings
Switch Lite is $199, and that’s before sale prices. That’s cheap enough, especially considering it’s a console and handheld hybrid combined. 3DS was $200 for most of its lifespan. Just because price dropped in its latter years doesn’t change the fact it was $200 when other consoles released, and they didn’t impact it one iota. Switch also will have price cuts later in its life.
Many games are $30, $40, $50 and $60. Even $20 and $15. You have a full range of games at all kinds of different prices. Clearly being $20 less on 3DS wasn’t the reason it sold, because Vita also had $40 games and it flopped like the Wii U.
And yes, people do buy FIFA on power consoles. I never claimed “nobody cares”. I claimed “nobody interested in Switch cares enough to suddenly not be interested in Switch to the point it impacts its sales”. Context my guy, context.
@JaxonH well I do know a few people who bought the system and then after BOTW odyssey stopped playing it. They went back to playing AAA games on the power systems. Just because the switch sells consoles doesn't mean people won't regret their purchases or just play it less and less as games are more impressive on other consoles. I get letting the future figure itself out. But you have to be proactive otherwise you find yourself behind the 8ball. As another poster wrote the system was sold as a hybrid and each year that passes is making the console experience less and less adequate.
Hopefully a physical release. Good game this. Would rather have Gun or RDR1 But this will do.
Cool, never played this. Another good addition to the library, could do with more FPS on the Switch.
@sixrings
And there’s people who buy PS4s, play Spider-Man, and then never touch their PS4 again and regret their purchase, and just play it less and less as games are more restrictive than on Switch.
Each year that passes, the TV-tethered nature of games on other consoles becomes less and less adequate.
Idk what point you’re trying to make.
@JaxonH Everyone judges for themselves. That you wait till whenever it comes on Switch "OR" I did back in 2013 makes no difference. Either conclusion, can be posted here.
Tons of people with Switch do not care if they can play every game "Hybrid". Just like I play PC/PS4 at home and SteamWorld Quest on the GO. Somebody else will play RING Fit at home and Luigi Mansion 3 on the bus. Take your own advice... That is important to "you" - and not everyone who owns a Switch.
And these graphics are so old, you can play it over SteamLink anywhere on the GO you can play Overwatch on Switch at this point.
@JaxonH the tv tethered nature of games becomes an obstacle to some people. Just the same as poor downgraded ports become an obstacle to others. Nintendo can't be all things to all people. I get that. But to assume that they are making the right decision to make a system less powerful because it's selling well today is shortsighted. Sure that trend may continue. But it might blow up in their faces as well. Clearly you're optimistic about the future where as I am more inclined to be skeptical.
it was average at best 6 years ago. the zombie games would have been a better port. if its dirt cheap worth a punt but im guessing it wont be so no not worth it.
@sixrings
“ But to assume that they are making the right decision to make a system less powerful because it's selling well today is shortsighted”
They’re making the right decision because they’re selling a portable. That’s their core hardware business but it carries with it certain unavoidable limitations when it comes to power. However they live with those limitations because Switch also sells as a Home System to play Nintendo games on and allows them to concentrate all the development of those games on one System. It continues to confuse those who think Power and the latest “AAA” games are the only true path but it’s impossible to conceive of a sweeter spot for Nintendo when it comes to hardware.
@sixrings
They're making the right decision because it’s the most powerful portable ever released. Complaining about a portable console’s power not matching more powerful home consoles is about as frivolous as complaining about home consoles’ power not matching more powerful PCs. Different markets, different expectations, different limitations.
They are making the right decision because it’s a popular and highly demanded product. Portable gaming devices have proven to be highly popular since the 1980s. That’s not going to suddenly stop being the case in the future anymore than home consoles are going to suddenly stop being popular. You’ll see interest in portable gaming tank as soon as you see interest in home console gaming tank. In fact you’re far more likely to see PlayStation and Xbox go extinct before you’ll see Nintendo hybrid consoles go extinct. Streaming is a very real threat for home console gaming. But it can’t touch portable consoles because it’s greatest weakness is a required internet connection.
If you’re going to worry, then worry about the power consoles’ future. That’s far more uncertain than Switch.
@JaxonH @electrolite77 that would mean I would have to trust Nintendo's business decision over say PlayStation. That's hard to do. I love Nintendo first party games but every single PlayStation has been a massive success. Nintendo has peaks and valleys.
This games average.. and old as hell to boot..will most likely be overpriced..people on here be acting like This is setting the world on fire.
@sixrings
The Playstation Vita was a massive failure for Sony and the Playstation 3 was a failure for the first 2-3 years of its lifespan until the Slim came out.
@Mgene15 don't worry. They survived selling 240p games at $40. we should be happy with the improvements
@Toy_Link so what you're telling me is portables aren't always a cash cow?
@Toy_Link I'm pretty sure PlayStation has never had the failure of the virtua boy proportions or had to cut its system life short like the Wii u.
@sixrings
Yes, your point? Should movies stop being made because Pluto Nash lost tons of money? Should consoles stop being made because the Atari Jaguar, 3DO, and the Wii U were failures?
And while Sony hasn’t had any one console/handheld sell a bad as the VB (there are a few revisions that did sell very badly such as the PSP GO and PS Vita TV for Sony, but no exact numbers for those). But the Vita in a practical sense was killed in 2015. Sony stopped developing games for it and stopped all promotion outside of Japan.
It's old and tired. Let it die.
@Heavyarms55 hahahahahhahahahahha that really got me
@Anguspuss thanks for the heads up! I was maybe gonna try it but you seem to be against it. Maybe I’ll save up for star dew valley. Thanks.
This game is fun, hope it's 60fps on Switch. Need some good western action on Switch.
Never played any of the series, might take a look at this point assuming that it is actually cleaned up in some way and not just a like for like port ala Ghostbusters.
Gotta admit... I've never played that game but it looks sweet in this trailer. Don't know how I've missed it. I'd give it a try if it is coming to Switch!
@sixrings And Nintendo handheld have done really well. Why would Nintendo make a Wii U 2 which could fail, when they can make a Switch/Gameboy successor and maximise their likeliness of success?. I mean, when Sony and MS release a slim then pro as the standard Road map for hardware releases. Nintendo straight out did a completely portable version of their console. They know full well they have the handheld market locked down, and who their consumers are.
The Switch also isn't their last console. From reports I've heard, they have a Switch pro, Switch 2, and potentially a brand new dedicated home console all in development. If only one aspect of that is true then it means Nintendo will have a stronger console to go against the next gen playstation and xbox. Even if it releases a few years later (but my personal guess is to see a Switch Pro release next year).
The current trend I've seen puts 4k tvs to be at under 50% adoption rate by 2023. Meaning, half of potential buyers won't even be able to take advantage of the current pro 4k consoles, let alone the 8k future proofed next gen ones. So I struggle to envision a world where the 'downgraded' Switch versions are preventing anyone from enjoying a good game on the console.
Its $20 and a damn fun game.
A console cannot have too many good games irrespective of age. The switch is a great console due to the hybrid nature - the experience of playing these ports handheld Significantly enhances the experience for many - great times.
I play Xbox one x on a 4K tv - it’s unbelievable - incredible gaming experience. Gfx, frame rate are stunning. Picking up the switch and playing these games in handheld mode is similarly amazing though in an altogether different way.
@sixrings you mean that PS Vita I got on 2012 and Sony started killing it barely 2 years later?
I like the Vita a lot but Sony and AAA dumped it directly the first moment they could, the only reason it still got games is because of indies, japanese devs and passionate community that bought them.
Nintendo at least kept supporting the Wii U, even while anybody else dumped it (even the Vita got more love overall than the Wii U, because aside from Nintendo most devs did not care)
Every company had their failures once, no exceptions.
Geez some of these posts are longer than the article. Hehe.
"enhanced with motion controls" sounds like an oximoron to me. It might sound unsensible, but except people with a disability, who really "enhances" their game with motion controls?
Any word of a physical version?
Is there a solo campaign?
@JaxonH
Man, I've not been on here too much in a while, but it was great seeing dimes drop on these clowns heads when I come through. It's got to be a sad life and state of affairs when you're such a lowlife that all you do is troll a gaming Message Board like some stereotypical hygienically challenged basement dweller. It's pretty pathetic, but I do sometimes just shake my head and laugh at these people. In any case, I've never played this game, but I do remember it. While it certain got a glass or two from me, It ultimately got caught up in the wash.
However, now that it's been given a second life, I might check it out on the Switch if the price is right for me. A game like this that may've been overlooked by me before I feel would be a great addition to the my Switch's liibrary. The gunplay and such certainly looks fun enough that it would be great to play during breaks at work, while commuting or maybe on one of our road trips. So, it's all good, let these haters hate. That might be the only thing that some of these guys have going in their life after all.
@Scollurio
What speaks against motion controls, especially when they are implemented as one option and not as the only option? Well implemented, they enrich the gaming experience - if you are willing to try them out and not just refusing to use this kind of controls. And I think it brings more to an immersive gaming experience than playing with a gamepad. But in the end, if you prefer playing with gamepad because motion control is nothing for you, that's okay.
That said, is it possible for programmers to use the Joy-Cons in a way similar to Nunjuk and Wiimote on Wii? I really liked it using the Nunchuk for steering and the Wiimote for aiming/pointing/and grabbing/moving things. This way of using the Wiimote felt much better than aiming/pointing and grabbing/moving things with a gamepad does.
i will definetly play through this again on PC. great game
This game was just fine, I cany say it is worth bringing back but Techland do like money for ols rope.
I wouldnt mind a compilation of the others though...obviously not the terrible modern day one of course.
I need to understand code-in-a-box releases because I don't and I wish I did.
digital only? shame. I'll wait for a sale then sadly. (I really must update my 256gb memory card, if the trend is going digital).
@RazumikhinPG it's literally just that. So with OverWatch, it was a normal Switch game case, but without a cartridge inside, instead, it was 2 leaflets, one with the code for the game itself which you redeem through the eShop and another code that gives you some Blizzard-related stuff for their other games.
@popey1980 I know what it is, I don't know WHY it is.
oh lol. I can only assume it's financial-related; saving cash on the cartridge cost but still marketing it as a full-RRP product ... plus it kinda appeases the collector in everyone by giving them a case to show off on their shelf.
@gameboy1975 Yep you've got a passive aggressive concern troll (but but but 4k/8k, graphics, pixels and all that jazz), someone who's done everything years before you, but better..and another one who does the playground console warrior routine.
Well there goes another game I will never buy. Sad too cause I was kinda interested in the game when I heard the news.
Big oof with the download code. Thats a no buy for me.
@Scollurio Have you got Splattoon 2 or Doom or Turok for the Switch? They all have gyro aiming and it makes a huge difference. Give it a try if you have any of them.
You set the sensitivity on the right analogue stick to maximum so you can aim really quickly in the right general direction and then use the gyro aiming to fine tune. I find it incredibly intuitive and I actively avoid buying first and third person shooters on Switch that don't include it now (I'm looking at you Resident Evil 4 and Ghostbusters).
@Scollurio
I prefer FPS with motion controls, to the point where I played Reflex on the Wii more than COD4 on the 360 even though its visuals were nowhere near it. The Wii U version of Black Ops 2 remains my favorite in the series because it combined HD visuals with the Wii motion controls.
I've never played any of the Call of Juarez series, so this one is on my radar.
If this would have been a physical cartridge I would have bought it. But a code in a box? No way!
@Ambermoon I have nothing against their implementation. The more options the better. I was just wondering if anyone that had the choice between pro controller and motion controls would actually prefer motion controls, as they seem clunky and unprecise to me personally. What's your personal take on them?
@BulkSlash Hmmm really? That indeed does sound useful. When I hear motion controlls I think of 10 year old kids steering their smartphone while playing some cash-grab-mobile racer... might have to re-evaluate then! Thanks for that insight.
@CaPPa You guys got me intrigued now.
@Scollurio Yeah I totally agree, when I first heard about gyro aiming I thought it would just be a load of Wii-like waggle, but I really do think it's the real deal. In fact I plan to get Doom Eternal on Switch even though I've got a PS4 Pro and Xbox One X which will likely run the game a lot more smoothly.
60fps or no sale
This code-in-the-case bullcrap needs to stop. We buy physical games to have them physically, not to just have a case and have a code for a game even though we can already download the game at home through the E-Shop.
I get it, cartridges are expensive. But how about wait a few months while the digital version sells, and do physical copies then once they get the money? But hey, I might be missing something.
@brandonbwii these games constantly press WHITE narratives, literally it’s the most racist thing ever.
Now that Techland has Switch experience, could we see more Chrome Engine titles hitting the system down the road- Dead Island? Dying Light?
@BulkSlash But would you prefer it over mouse/kb on PC though?
I’ll wait for the eShop sale.
Why not be digital only? Or what they couldv done is an empty box but you can put in multiple cartridges and changeable cover. Then its atleadt good for something😒
Cool game, but this whole "ony code in the case" crap needs to cease. This is because companies want shelf visibility, but without having to offer the actual product on the shelf.
Now, about those discussions regarding the Switch not being worth it anymore once the PS5 or next Xbox comes out... Can I play the PS5 or next Xbox on the go? No? Well I rest my case then.
Anyone who buys the Switch thinking this is a console that competes with even the current PS4 or Xbox One is just delusionnal. I don't think many people actually put all of these in the same league. I don't know of anyone who'd be hesitant between a PS4 or a Switch. They're completely different animals. Most of the selling points of the Switch are hardware features not available on other platforms. Sure, the big Nintendo franchises like Zelda and Mario play a role as well, but let's leave the graphic tarts to the other platforms. Because if someone cares THAT MUCH about graphic performance, why in hell would that person buy a Switch in the first place? These persons are not part of the target market.
On a cart I would have preordered.
Download only kills my interest.
@Scollurio Aha, now there's a question! Mouse/keyboard is very probably better, especially if you are playing competitively and have one of those gaming mice with ballast weights and eleventy billion DPIs.
Gyro aiming is IMHO the best option for consoles though as its got great accuracy and it's easier than trying to balance a mouse on the settee!
@Liam Doolan - thanks for the kudos, Liam. tip of the hat
@Patron I believe it’s just Call of Juarez: The Cartel that got flack because of its use of Mexican stereotypes.
Man people call me a troll for wanting 1080p 60fps in 2019 meanwhile they say they refuse to support games without motion controls. Nintendo fans are a strange bunch.
I will grab this when it launches. I have always enjoyed these games.
@JaxonH @Agramonte Has the right of it in this case. It's not like Doom that's a shining example of it's genre coming to Switch. This isn't a "bad" game, it's just a fairly generic game that was kind of "filler" even in it's own last gen launch. It received a decent track record overall, but it's a pretty dated run & gun design that feels a bit behind the times, and not in a retro-classic sort of way, and doesn't really redefine or showcase the genre pinnacle in the way Doom or Wolf 2 does. It was an "also-ran" on the 360 that isn't bad in any way, but also isn't particularly noteworthy in any era. It's a bit overpriced in some ways, but at $20 it's at least a bargain bin find of higher quality than a lot of indies. But it's also not something to get especially excited about amidst a backlog a mile high filled with much better games.
Code in a box....... That's a no from me then. If/when it's on a steep Eshop sale I might get it further down the line.
Nah, code in a box just turns me off completely.
I’m pretty sure this was always considered a ‘download’ game, rather the disc based. It’s quite short.
@Peach64 everyones version of what should be downloaded vs cart is different. It's all subjective. I buy everything digitally while some buy half on cart for one reason or another and the other half digitally. While there are some old school people which refuse to buy any game that isn't 100% physical. Those people are going to have a hard time gaming in 5-10 years.
@BulkSlash Fair enough!
@sixrings those people will have a hard time staying a live another five to ten years (cause theyre old) just kidding. I'm one of them. I buy first party games and "bigger" games on cart (also for resale value if I eventually get rid of it all) and smaller/indie games digitally but only on sale, for the same reason.
Thinking about this, do you know what needs a full remake? Gun. I still think that game is in some ways better than RDR and was definitely better than red dead revolver.
I would of paid $30 to have it physically on a Switch game card! 😐
Christ, the code in the box scheme is like a spreading cancer
@Scollurio
I appreciate the possibility to have options, too. But I have to admit that I am not that good in aiming with the whole console in hand. With Splatoon on Wii U, I was better with the gamepad for aiming than with a Pro controller. I'm not really good in shooting games in general so that doesn't say much. But I gad a better feeling when playing with the gamepad. I got better along, so for me it was more fun.
In the end, though, it depends on the quality of the implementation. Well done it's worth at least a real try.
No cart no sale.
@NEStalgia
Think you completely missed the whole point of my post.
I made no comment on how good the game was. I made a comment on dismissing it and mocking it simply because it already released somewhere else and can be found for less, which is the case for 90% of the games to come to Switch and they are some of the most exciting releases I’ve seen to date.
So “excitement” has zilch to do with already having released elsewhere and being sold cheaper elsewhere. Same was true for Witcher 3, Diablo 3, DOOM, etc etc. It doesn’t mean jack.
But now that they’ve confirmed gyro, I absolutely am excited for it. You can tell me that’s not exciting but you’d be wrong because you can’t really tell me what’s exciting for me you can only tell me what’s exciting for you.
Perhaps reread the post
I couldn't care less about the code in a box, nor is this my type of game - but getting these games on the shelves is good for marketing. It's probably the only reason its done.
When publishers release a game on a physical cartridge, there is a "minimum order size". I don't know what the numbers are for switch games, but you can't order a few hundred... It used to be 4,000 or so.
So if it's $10 per SKU (cost of the box, cartridge at a given size, shipping), at 4,000 units for a minimum order ... The publisher needs to cough up $40k before they ship anything to a retailer.
And if they only sell a fraction of these, the other units go nowhere and it's wasted money.
So it's a measure of risk, dollars, estimated sales, retail orders and more.
Digital only may have less sales, and less profit ... But it's also less risk.
"Step one, cut a hole in the box"
@OorWullie
I’d love Dying Light on Switch, but I doubt it’ll ever happen. I’d also take Dead Island, Riptide not so much.
This got me thinking, I’d love a remaster of Gun on Switch. It was the Red Dead Redemption, before RDR.
@Scollurio
It depends how motion controls are implemented, and there is personal preference too. For example I dont like the motion aiming in Doom on the Switch because it's too slack. I would always play FPS with a zero deadzone setting, for me that's perfect, but some of my friends would find it unplayable.
They are only charging US$20 for this, but they easily could have charged more, say US$40 for a full physical version, and charge accordingly on the eShop as well.
@SteelSunglass : That would cause contention as the game would likely be available for dirt cheap via the eShop while expecting that customers will pay full-price for a delayed physical release (at present, physical and digital releases are usually simultaneous, and at the same price, with the key exception being limited physical runs of prior digital releases, and under the circumstances, collectors usually don't mind paying extra).
To date, delayed physical releases have usually cost the same as the digital alternative, as was the case with Snipperclips Plus and more recently, Tetris 99.
They should perhaps consider the opposite approach, where the physical release is issued a limited print run at full-price followed by a cheaper digital release later on (meaning that the digital version is delayed to enable the physical release to sell at the highest possible price), but likewise, this could annoy consumers who prefer downloads.
I for one like W3 that was fitted on a cart is one reason why this game here just doesn't make sense. And people bought W3 at it's price without worries. They should make a effort to do a PreOrder to insure that they would have the volume order needed to get such Phsyical options. But even if risk they could refund and or give the PreOrders option to convert to eShop Code. I think they are looking at tunnel visions not how can they expand their user base.
Why bother. So annoying. A complete waste of plastic not helping the environment this shady business practice 🤔 maybe we could use that argument against them 😏🤣
No cartridge, no buy. Easy.
Why are people upset that this is digital only. It was digital only on PS3 and Xbox. Digital is the future. Get a bigger memory card. I delete games when I finish them. You can always re-download it later if you want to play it again. It is just learning to better manage your memory card.
