Re: Editorial: The Frustrating Quest for a SNES Mini is Bad Business for Nintendo

Alessandro_P

Well, this is an interesting article, right in every single point.

I barely managed to preorder a SNES Mini just because the preoders opened during my lunch break and I was browsing Twitter in that exact moment: i got one for my brother from Amazon Italy and, after 2 hours, they were gone.
And with "I got" I meant "I preordered"... With the NES Mini, Amazon cancelled tons of preorders, so, let's hope for the best.

It doesn't make any sense and this time it looks like they are deliberatly doing this... I will never believe they didn't learn their lesson, and this is just so immensly stupid.

Re: PETA Calls Out Nintendo Over Inaccurate Portrayal Of Milking In 1-2-Switch

Alessandro_P

I love the fact that milking is an activity that standard farmers do without those rack things and without taking away calfs or whatever.
Also, not milking a cow, as far as people who actually own cows told me, cause a lot of suffering for the cow itself.

Ok, PETA, I get it, humans are bad, animals are good but, as far as I remember, you are humans too, sooooo....

And then he discovered that all PETA members are just a group of human-like intelligent, wanting-to-conquer-the-world rabbits

Re: Mysterious RetroEngine Site Goes Live, Promises Support For Nintendo, Sega, Atari And Sony Systems

Alessandro_P

@ThanosReXXX Yes, there are tons of emulators in Retropie that aren't in that list. Most are in an experimental state and don't work properly.
I'll try Atari ST myself to see if it works without going crazy over keyboard issues!

Still, I wonder why they put MAME on the list.
MAME on Retropie, with all the problems tied to the constant changing of the roms, is confused as hell (and also, in some occasion, can't work properly without a keyboard, which is absurd) XD

To make it simple: they're trying to sell the most user unfriendly thing ever as a plug and play thing, and it is incredibly far from that. XD

Re: Mysterious RetroEngine Site Goes Live, Promises Support For Nintendo, Sega, Atari And Sony Systems

Alessandro_P

@ThanosReXXX I haven't tried WinUAE on Retropie yet, and evereything you're saying makes a lot of sense; but still, for example, Commodore 64 runs on Retropie with Vice, which is an incredible emulator on Windows: on Retropie, though, when you boot a game, everything is confused.
The controls on the pad are a mess (right on the analog stick is down on the emulator menu, down on the d-pad is 'enter', etc.) and there is no easy way to remap the controls without a physical keyboard. If you know how to use a Pi and Retropie it's fine, but this Retroengine will be probably sold as a ready-to-go unit... And some emulator, while working extremely well, are way, waaay far from ready-to-go!

Re: Mysterious RetroEngine Site Goes Live, Promises Support For Nintendo, Sega, Atari And Sony Systems

Alessandro_P

@ThanosReXXX Because there is support, and the emulators work fine! Maybe with the ST and the Amstrad CPC, the emulator doesn't need a physical keyboard to play and so they put it is, but I can assure you that, with a gamepad alone, Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum, even if they work, are absolutely unplayable: the gamepad buttons and directions are used for emulation functions and not for direction/button press, you need a keyboard to run game, change stuff, etc..
If they're selling this machine as a pure gaming console, they can't take the risk to add such things to the mix, I guess.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of Pokémon Sun and Moon: Special Demo Version?

Alessandro_P

I thuoght it was good. Not great, but good.
I love the fact that you can do stuff only in certain days: you have more than one reason for coming back, from time to time.

Only major iussue I had was with the catching minigame: ok, not keeping the pokemon you caught is fine, but Greninja oneshots pretty much anything. It was a terrible way to make you learn about the basics of catching pokemon if they canot be weakened, most of the time.

Re: PokéVision Creator Writes Open Letter On Niantic Shutting Down Fan-Made Pokémon GO Tools

Alessandro_P

I always though that this game has bigger problems.
I LOVE the social aspect of it, don't get me wrong, but it's a flawed app that is getting worse and worse every day.

Pokevision was an interesting experiment, in my opinion: if you think about it, it worked almost exactly like the standard game Pokedex: you check a road, you see what Pokemon live there. Simple as that.

The three step tracking was necessary to give that Pokedex Map feeling to the game, but Niantic removed it. Pokevision made something to fix it, but they simply had to collaborate and maybe, I don't know, help Niantic to fix the problem!
That would be great!

Also...
Am I the only one that thinks that this game will become mostly unplayable when the new generation will be added? Think about it... More pokemon = less chance to find the candies that you need.
I don't care too much for battling (but they NEED to implement trading) since The Pokemon Company has to leave the standard game mechanic as far as they can from this game if they want to sell the 3DS ones, but they really, REALLY have to change the evolution system with the new generations...

Re: Review: City Connection (Wii U eShop / NES)

Alessandro_P

Well, I respectfully disagree: maybe it didn't age very well, for sure, but 3/10 is very cruel. It's not that bad. It's an average but somewhat funnish arcade game with slow controls that are part of the challenge!
Still, I didn't know about the character change... That sad and without motivation...

Re: Upcoming Super Mario Maker Update Adds P Warp Doors, the Fire Koopa Clown Car and More

Alessandro_P

@Matbtz That's a great news for sure! But still, you had to find a Community OUTSIDE of the game (like the one you mentioned, or like the level uploader here on Nintendo Life): the original product lacks all of that, and for such a good tool it's a shame.
I know that a game helping communities growing is a good thing, but it's still not enough of an effort, IMHO. Especially since MM locks your possibility to upload more levels if you don't have enough stars: if somebody doesn't join a community or he/she's not somehow famous, he/she is doomed to have the 10 level limit for a loooooong while...

Re: Upcoming Super Mario Maker Update Adds P Warp Doors, the Fire Koopa Clown Car and More

Alessandro_P

Am I the only one to think that this is a very good game without any purpose?
You just play... You got nothing to complete... And the in-game search system makes most levels (maybe even good levels) disappear into nothingness...

I don't know, I had fun with it for a good while and I still think it's very well crafted for a tool... But still... It needs something more: gameplay with no objective is not good enough for me...

Re: Analysts Weigh in on Nintendo's Successes and Failures with amiibo

Alessandro_P

@shaneoh Yeah, I was thinking about that too.
Amiibo Festival is a great letdown in its concept. It's the most skylander-ish thing Nintendo has put out... And I hope that future amiibo-centered software will be, if not free, at least not full reatail price games...

I love my amiibos but, yeah, they should do more with them. But not THAT MUCH more, and for that price.

Re: Poll: Did The Final Video Presentation for Super Smash Bros. Provide a Memorable Ending?

Alessandro_P

I thought it was an interesting direct but a bit ppor on the content side... Ok, 2 new characters and the explaination of Cloud ad some costumes and amiibos, but it stops there.
Well, didn't they tease some sort of Online Tournament Mode (Mario Kart style) in an old direct, when the game wasn't out yet? Where is it??
A final mode to add and close everything would have probably made the direct a little better.
Still, applause for Sakurai, he did an amazing job on the game and i respect his work so much. Also, Cloud is good. Very good.
