We know, you're still recovering from the fact Sol Cresta is actually real, but we've got a little bit more Platinum news to share.
The company's fifth game announcement has now been revealed as the brand-new action title, World of Demons. Unfortunately, it's an Apple Arcade exclusive. It also happens to be PlatinumGames' first mobile title.
"World of Demons is an action game with a magnificent visual style inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e and sumi-e woodblock prints. Players will assume the role of the samurai Onimaru as he explores beautiful environments battling and recruiting yokai and oni, the spirits and monsters of Japanese folklore."
If the name sounds familiar, according to the producer, Koji Tanaka, it's because it was previously announced as a free-to-play release in 2018. Back then, the game was meant to be published by Japanese mobile company, DeNA.
It's now "very different" from the original announcement and has been redesigned from "ground up" for Apple's games service. Here's what Platinum's head, Atsushi Inaba, had to say about it during a chat with IGN:
“The graphics style, the design of the main character and the concept of including yokai inspired by traditional legends are all the same as before. Apart from that, it is a completely different game. We had the opportunity to release the game for Apple Arcade, and instead of just making a few small adjustments for the new platform, we decided to take this opportunity to rebuild the game from the ground up."
As this is an exclusive, don't expect this game to pop up on consoles any time soon. In saying this, would you like to see Platinum bring World of Demons - or something like it - to the Switch? Tell us down in the comments.

Aww... here I thought it'd be bayonetta 3. you suck platnium give us wonderful 101 2, metroid prime 4 and a new viewtiful joe game.
I used to get my hopes up with a Platinum* announcement... I have since learned better.
Bayonetta combat with Okami visuals, yes please. I have little doubt that this will end up on Switch once the Apple exclusive period ends and I'm fine waiting.
A new title from Platinum is always exciting news, but as a plus this one has the same art-style inspiration as Okami
Hopefully it's just a timed exclusivity deal like some other titles from Apple Arcade that eventually were also announced for the Switch
I played the first level and it's ok. Kinda in line with something like the Korra game they did, pretty simple combat mechanics. I think having to design it around a touch screen held it back. I played with a controller though. Love the art and sound design since I'm a big Okami fan.
@TheJGG why do they need to work on Metroid Prime 4? I trust Retro Studios.
looks like just the battles of okami without the paint moves
I’ll try it once it hits consoles in a year or two. I will play anything with ukiyo-e and sumi-e artstyles. Plus it is P star...
Lol well this was quite a disappointing stunt from Platinum. Coulda just shown us Bayonetta 3.
I’ll tell ya what: this is pretty cool looking. There’s another Apple Arcade exclusive out now from the creator of Final Fantasy and it looks soooo cool. Take Link’s Awakening on Switch and take it to the next level—They used real-life hand made dioramas as the world/map so it looks sort of like that toy land type dreamy thing in Zelda but more mature.
Now granted. I have zero intention to get Apple Arcade to play these but I’m really hoping they come to Switch. It’s nothing against Apple, I just don’t play mobile/cell phone games.
And I NEVER want mobile games to come to Switch but these two on topic look really cool.
I'm playing the game now, and as someone who absolutely DESPISES mobile gaming of any kind, I am actually enjoying it a lot. The art direction is gorgeous, the controls are serviceable, and the action is fast and fluid. I really hope that the game comes to the Switch at some point, though. That's when it will truly shine.
I already have this game. but it's called Okami. same art, same music, same game play, but welp.. wolf. and slightly different demons.
The usual judgemental comments on here despite having not played it.
For what’s it’s worth it’s a great game let down only by oversteer on the manual camera.
With no word on either Bayo 3 or Babylon's Fall and now Platinum doing mobile games I wouldn't be surprised to see Bayo or BF do a Scalebound and disappear.
Okami 2 looks lit! See you next year on Switch (you know its gonna happen).
It’s not just the art style, many of those assets look ripped right out of Okami. Not complaining it is one of my favourite games of all time. Timeless art
Platinum: doesn't announce Bayonetta 3.
People: brrr platinum big succ
@Mr-Fuggles777 World of Demons is also on Apple TV and Mac, it's not just "a mobile" game. Apple TV can be used on TV and you can use a PS4 / XBOX ONE/Series controller. Making it more a console than anything "mobile".
To be honest, this is a very smart move from Apple.
You know I would like pretty much everything on the Switch. A spectacle slasher from PG only tenfold moreso - barring the usual "strap/holder gamepad" compromises, it's no kind of game I can imagine playing on a touchscreen (unless the whole battle input is more like FFXIII/Xenoblade, but frankly not overly enthused even then). I still get flashbacks about trying to drive in mobile Disney Infinity, and even the relatively tolerable Black Desert eventually tired me. Mobile gaming still remains curtailed by its zany hardware fashion in what genres it can fully handle, and the need to invest in extra peripherals (often still more expensive than even the standard PC compatibles, especially here in post-Soviet realms) remains an underwhelming solution.
I've noticed any apple arcade 'exclusive' soon makes its way over to Switch, World's End Club is one example among others
Platinum seem to making sure that all of their eggs aren’t in one basket, both in the variety of ways they’re releasing their games and on what platforms, and the style, length, and cost of what they’re producing.
As a business move, it’s a smart plan. Don’t fail because you make niche games and sell them to a limited fan base.
The game looks interesting enough and yeah it will be a timed exclusive. But I'm still annoyed with platinum over their horrific wonderful 101 Kickstarter campaign. Letter hope B3 meets all our expectations (an impossible task).
First Fantasian and now this... Apple arcade seems to be getting a lot of amazing games (at least from amazing developers) lets hope it releases, so I can try my “free month” period. And lets pray for Switch ports (and since we are praying, lets add a switch port or “terra battle” to the mix)
Oof the similarities between this and Okami is too much.
And I'm just sitting here waiting for Project G.G.
Get Apple Arcade, it’s extremly cheap with a lot of great games, i.e. Fantasian, can be cancelled any time. Thanks to it I saved a big amount of money.
I don’t see this as an issue. Apple Arcade games are generally timed exclusives and many jump to Switch after that period ends.
Plus, I have Arcade (for exactly that reason, actually, it’s saved me a lot of money on great indies that were also released on Switch), so I’m set lol.
lol so the Okami sequel we all wanted is just combat with no wolf.....
Art style looks fantastic
Not sure how many employees Platinum Studios have but talk about spread yourself thin.
Bayonnetta 3 probably could have been finished by now.
I guess these smaller companies have to play the odds game and develop and release a few games rather than putting all their eggs in one basket.
Well, if it's coming to Apple Arcade, which has stayed a failure despite all these deals, it will surely come to Switch eventually, as has been the case with other big Apple Arcade releases like Oceanhorn 2, Heroki or Shinsekai into the depths.
I refuse to play an Action game on a touchscreen, call me when it's on a real platform.
I'm very confident that this will just be a timed exclusive and has a good chance to appears on the Switch later, but as a shmup fan i'm more interested in Sol Cresta anyway.
@link3710 You can connect a controller to an iPhone or apple tv and play it that way. It literally says that it supports controllers on the app store page.
Many many Apple Arcade games have gone on to release on PC and Switch, so I suspect there's probably just a few months exclusivity, with a possibility to see a Switch release in the future. Just to give everyone a bit of hope.
Nice artstyle, but if this is gameplay and that gameplay is done via touch controls, this game will be incredibly bland and not worth my time.
Touch the screen to both attack and move. No thank you.
Wasn’t this announced ages ago as a mobile game?
I suppose they can't actually call it Okami, but yeah, that is Okami
I couldn't get this, or Fantasian to work. I was looking forward to check it out, it looks good.
LMAO What’s with the pipi monster at the 16 sec mark?
Give it a month after its relesase.
Looking forward to playing this on Switch
How do you guarantee i can never play a game? Put it on a phone brand i don't own. Why would I have two phones?
I guess the Apple Arcade exclusivity would be less sour if:
a) Any of these exclusives were the kind of game you'd get a device for
b) Said device wasn't a a grand.
Even on contract, a flagship phone can be a back-breaking investment if you're just trynna get by.
Im all for consoles exclusives. But making a game exclusive to a platform no one gives a ***** about is a little stupid.
@link3710 Damn no The World Ends With You for you, then
Played for a couple minutes and I gotta say, so much wasted potential...
@Xyroc Doesn't matter tbh, I don't have any Apple products lol.
@TheDavyStar TWEWY isn't a DMC/Bayo style action game lol. Touchscreens are great for certain things, not for others, just like physical controllers.
...Though TWEWY's controls were hardly perfect either.
@sanderev I honestly forgot you could even do this and I have an Apple TV capable of doing it. Oh man now I’m tempted to try this out.
With this and Fantasian, I'm starting to get interested in Apple Arcade.
@nhSnork On the flip side, Baldur's Gate plays incredibly well on an Ipad, but the Switch port was a dog's dinner.
So, no announcement afterall? Weird...
Definitely not gonna buy any apple device so it better gets ported to the switch.
This is an old game, rereleased on apple arcade.
Edit;
I'll maybe try this on my wife her phone, with a free trial.
I think it looks fantastic. Like Okami and Ninja Gaiden had a three-way with Bayonetta action. I don't have an iPhone so hopefully it'll release on Switch at some point!
Apple Arcade is pretty cool. If u just check out a game or two a month it’s worth it. I agree with some in that mobile gaming in general isn’t as fun as a dedicated console, especially the Switch. But it’s hard to beat $5 a month for the selection you get. I really didn’t care for Amazon or Google to get into gaming, but I like Apple’s approach....
Oh well, I won't be playing it as I don't own an Apple phone and my ipad is unusable now (and has been for years).
I swear some of the sound effects and samples are exactly the same as in Okami
