Oooo lets pretend to be all culturally sophisticated by listening to something we don't understand. I smell pretentious nonsense. Like those students who go on a gap year and get a tatoo in Thailand that they're convinced says "summer rose" or something like that. But for all they know the poor little thai lady misheard and it actually says "summer hos".

Dezzy commented on Poll: Do Video Game Reviews Need To Have A Score?:

It's hilarious when they say numbers aren't a meaningful way of assessing a review so we've come up with 3 different awards we give a game. Well congratulations idiot, that's exactly the same as just changing 1-10 to 1-3. Halfwits.

It's obviously decided by a certain panel of people. Most groups that have any kind of community about them end up with clear biases. So anyone who started playing Nintendo games started to get criticised or something like that. It happens all the time.

@Quorthon Unfortunately definitions aren't ultimately set by dictionaries. They're set by the common usage. Whilst the dictionary definition of "feminism" would certainly include most of us, in reality, the actual feminist movement comes out with a lot of dogmatic nonsense (in recent years anyway) that doesn't actually fit that definition. That's why so many women (and men) keep their distance from it.

They're obviously talking about pixel art, not all 2D. They stupidly seemed to make that general jump. Anyone who's played the 3DS version of rayman origins knows how it important it is. The Vita version makes it look like an absolute mess.

@Artwark Trademarks? What on earth would trademarks have to do with it? I think you probably mean patents. Trademarks are for names and logos etc. Patents address ideas and concepts. Unfortunately patenting software is almost universally disregarded. You can pretty much copy anyone's ideas to your heart content.

Right yes, well the Xbox One has the lowest install base AND nintendo fans would probably be quite eager to buy minecraft. Seriously Nintendo, just send some positive thoughts (or some cash) their way.

I'd actually like more Steamworld Dig too, which isn't the sort of position I usually take. But this is very much a Mario Galaxy type of situation. Just change it a bit, add more stuff and make more of it!
(Hope you're reading this mr developer)

Dezzy commented on Poll: Which Is The Best Super Mario Platformer?:

It's weird how unpopular the "New" games are given how many they sold, the Wii and DS versions especially.

I agree with others above that this should've been 2 different polls really though. The 2D and 3D are different enough, but similar enough to other 2D and 3D, that they can be reasonably grouped as such.

Why is she returning? She had almost no personality at all. Great to see they were completely oblivious to the faults of the first game.

I guess that means they'll be sticking with the 0 exploration as well. A drawing of an entire city with..........2 houses to explore. Yeah, that's definitely a 'city'

@sketchturner 'Free market' isn't the correct description for what you're talking about. In a free market, Nintendo are perfectly entitled to say that some games aren't good enough. Free market doesn't mean everything has to get the same opportunities in the context that's controlled by a private company. It just means you should get the same opportunities in a public context.

There's definitely a huge issue with very poor games being accepted onto the various digital storefronts. To be honest, if a game is at a 1/10 quality level, Nintendo should really just reject it. All it's doing is making it harder to find the good games.
On the other hand, I think having a conscious policy of not distinguishing between big developers and indies has been a very important attitude (I assume it started with Steam) in helping the indie market grow. If there's to be any kind of differentiating between games, it should be done in terms of quality rather than price, graphical budget or the reputation of a company.

I'm looking forward to it but I sincerely hope this second crowd funding fails miserably. Sometimes crowdfunding is the right thing to do. Sometimes companies are just taking the piss. Like Double Fine having a second campaign because they spent all the money. That's just not acceptable and sometimes it's important for people to fail.

Why on earth do they wait for the ratings before doing the localization? I assume the main part of that is just the translating into non-english languages. Why don't they have that done ahead of time and then just make any necessary adjustments after getting the rating?
Essentially what's happening is that english speaking europeans are having to wait for the french, german, spanish etc. Ridiculous nonsense. It's stuff like this that leads people to hate the EU.

It's not cringeworthy and it's not a bit of fun either. It's a meaningless addition. 'Sexism' really isn't the right label though, even if it is gratuitous. As I've always said, the solution is simple. Every time they do sexy women, they have to do a male version too. If those prove popular, then great. If they don't, then the liberal world just has to deal with the fact that men and women are different.

Looks great. It's shocking how quick people are to try and demonize something. Clearly they copied some of the art from Minish Cap. But it's obviously their own work. If they'd just straight stole in, it'd be a lower resolution and would show a clear difference from the rest of the art. Which it doesn't. How many games have stolen to art style of minecraft for god's sake?

At this point I'm just assuming Nintendo have been deliberately teasing it for the sake of gauging the potential response. I hope they get the picture. We want!
It's a guaranteed million+ seller with something that you've already got an engine + 1/3 of the resources for.

Dezzy commented on New Japanese Law Bans Child Abuse Images, Yet ...:

The big issue with this sort of problem seems to be the fact that they're fictional characters. If the creators just say they're 16 or 18 (or whatever the law is), then there doesn't seem to be much you can do. There are plenty of 18 year olds who look about 13. Can the government then just pass judgement on whether your 18 year old character is adult-enough? Seems like an unsolvable situation.

It is quite funny to hear someone from Nintendo being cautious because a technological gimmick might not be around for the long-term. I'll just go back to playing my motion-controlled games in 3D. Oh wait....
