I'd actually like more Steamworld Dig too, which isn't the sort of position I usually take. But this is very much a Mario Galaxy type of situation. Just change it a bit, add more stuff and make more of it!
(Hope you're reading this mr developer)

Dezzy commented on Poll: Which Is The Best Super Mario Platformer?:

It's weird how unpopular the "New" games are given how many they sold, the Wii and DS versions especially.

I agree with others above that this should've been 2 different polls really though. The 2D and 3D are different enough, but similar enough to other 2D and 3D, that they can be reasonably grouped as such.

Why is she returning? She had almost no personality at all. Great to see they were completely oblivious to the faults of the first game.

I guess that means they'll be sticking with the 0 exploration as well. A drawing of an entire city with..........2 houses to explore. Yeah, that's definitely a 'city'

@sketchturner 'Free market' isn't the correct description for what you're talking about. In a free market, Nintendo are perfectly entitled to say that some games aren't good enough. Free market doesn't mean everything has to get the same opportunities in the context that's controlled by a private company. It just means you should get the same opportunities in a public context.

There's definitely a huge issue with very poor games being accepted onto the various digital storefronts. To be honest, if a game is at a 1/10 quality level, Nintendo should really just reject it. All it's doing is making it harder to find the good games.
On the other hand, I think having a conscious policy of not distinguishing between big developers and indies has been a very important attitude (I assume it started with Steam) in helping the indie market grow. If there's to be any kind of differentiating between games, it should be done in terms of quality rather than price, graphical budget or the reputation of a company.

I'm looking forward to it but I sincerely hope this second crowd funding fails miserably. Sometimes crowdfunding is the right thing to do. Sometimes companies are just taking the piss. Like Double Fine having a second campaign because they spent all the money. That's just not acceptable and sometimes it's important for people to fail.

Why on earth do they wait for the ratings before doing the localization? I assume the main part of that is just the translating into non-english languages. Why don't they have that done ahead of time and then just make any necessary adjustments after getting the rating?
Essentially what's happening is that english speaking europeans are having to wait for the french, german, spanish etc. Ridiculous nonsense. It's stuff like this that leads people to hate the EU.

It's not cringeworthy and it's not a bit of fun either. It's a meaningless addition. 'Sexism' really isn't the right label though, even if it is gratuitous. As I've always said, the solution is simple. Every time they do sexy women, they have to do a male version too. If those prove popular, then great. If they don't, then the liberal world just has to deal with the fact that men and women are different.

Looks great. It's shocking how quick people are to try and demonize something. Clearly they copied some of the art from Minish Cap. But it's obviously their own work. If they'd just straight stole in, it'd be a lower resolution and would show a clear difference from the rest of the art. Which it doesn't. How many games have stolen to art style of minecraft for god's sake?

At this point I'm just assuming Nintendo have been deliberately teasing it for the sake of gauging the potential response. I hope they get the picture. We want!
It's a guaranteed million+ seller with something that you've already got an engine + 1/3 of the resources for.

Dezzy commented on New Japanese Law Bans Child Abuse Images, Yet ...:

The big issue with this sort of problem seems to be the fact that they're fictional characters. If the creators just say they're 16 or 18 (or whatever the law is), then there doesn't seem to be much you can do. There are plenty of 18 year olds who look about 13. Can the government then just pass judgement on whether your 18 year old character is adult-enough? Seems like an unsolvable situation.

It is quite funny to hear someone from Nintendo being cautious because a technological gimmick might not be around for the long-term. I'll just go back to playing my motion-controlled games in 3D. Oh wait....

@Ralizah That's an insane suggestion. You need to be able to distinguish between an art style you dislike and just badly drawn art. I don't like the art style either. But it IS very well done for what it is. And whoever did it should've been well paid for their work!

As someone who's also had quite severe health problems in recent years (luckily not life-threatening), I agree that the ability of games to act as escapism is something they do better than any other media.

So much meaningless shovelware for the 3DS now. I swear, on the eshop when they have different links like "Indie Games", "Mario Games" etc they should just have a "Games for actual serious gamers" button.

@Gravedigga13

It's got nothing to do with americans. It's a far bigger problem in Europe as Europe tends to be more liberal. In the UK it's a phenomena that's been around for about a decade (the idea that you have to have a token black person or women in every group).
In essence, it's what I'd call a moral over-correction. To the liberal mindset, equality is one of the most important moral positions, which in itself is a good thing. The problem is, the people who make statements like in this article don't actually care about real-world problems. They just care about making themselves feel ok about things. So they prefer supericial and completely patronising equality over no equality at all (which ironically does more to harm genuine equality in the long run)

This is the sort of article that you only expect from sites like Polygon, who as far as I can tell, try and start a self-righteous social crusade in every other article. This weird liberal idea that racism isn't just an active thing that people do but that you can be passively racist by not going out of your way to include people of every colour. This level of masochistic thinking needs to be stamped out immediately.
