Earlier this week, we shared the 'news' that Japanese players had been doing everything in their power to take a sneak peek at Princess Peach's royal undergarments. In what appears to be a rapidly progressing movement, a new obsession with making female fighters blush has now started to spread across those corners of the internet in its place.
The visual effect can be performed by having a character use the Spicyspicy Curry item (although some characters blush in other ways, too); the fighter will initially breathe fire and burn everything in their path, before calming down and blushing over the trauma of it all. Upon seeing this, you might simply think, "ah, that's a clever little bit of animation", before getting on with your day. Others appear to see things rather differently, however.

To be fair, some of them have been turned into incredibly dramatic scenes. We'd happily watch whatever series this image below is from on Netflix.

Just another example of how the Switch can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere, and with anyone.

Japanese people scare me sometimes.
I find this extremely sexist. Why is that only the females are blushing after spicy food? Are the devs insinuating that all women are fragile, poor little vessels that can't handle hot food and that it is reserved only for big macho males? I expected better from Nintendo.
Ultimate Zelda's design is the cutest thing in video game.
Just shows the difference in cultures.
The internet was a mistake
@Scottwood101 Legit question, is it actually the case that only female characters blush after spicy curry or is it that these online content creators are solely focusing on female characters?
I like the last series of images - the one with Tuxedo Mario proposing to Zelda. I've always been impressed with the scenes peole can create in Smash, but I've never had the talent to create my own.
Not all Japanese players have been obsessing over these things like the article makes it seem
@Scottwood101 One of the images shows Chrom, a male characer, blushing. So I don't think it's that in the game only female characters blush, more than certain fans have latched on to the female characters blushing.
@Scottwood101 Becasue women are not afraid to show weakness.
Never change Japan
I think it's kind of cute and gives more personality to the charcters, just like @AlternateButtons stated before. These people are just taking it a bit too far.
@Scottwood101 All the characters do it. But it's cool, whatevs. Fake/troll anger. Just do it better.
"I don't mind playing as a female, what I cannot get into however, are bands with female lead singers. I even struggle to accept a band that has a female musician in it. No idea why." << That's what you said, btw.

Haha I'm excited and also a little scared to see what the internet will do with the camera in smash ....... I wish I had some talent to make things like this, but I can't even play smash that well so 😐
This Zelda is just unreasonably cute. And what's Peach mad about? She clearly wasn't interested! Lol
There's a picture of Chrom blushing in there, so it's not just the females.
I was wondering how people did that...
(///UwU///)
@Scottwood101 Quiet you
@Ttimer5 8 players acting out shows on the Tomodochi Life stage, no doubt
@BeetonTheRobot There's nothing "fetish" about it, blushing is a known feature of sexual arousal. Women also use rosy makeup on their cheeks to look more attractive.
And even outside the gutter, a "proper" or "shy" character like Zelda or Isabelle blushing after losing control due to spicy food is simply cute.
I don't see what the big deal is, they're having fun
i reckon i could make $$$$$ selling empty jars with the label "Lady fart" on it in japan
@ryancraddock Just a random question, Why is this article in Blue?
Some of these are really well put together.
@HobbitGamer he's trying to impress the ladies with his fake virtue signalling.
Extremely cute feature. Love the creativity of whatever player assembled that last scene between Zelda, Mario, and Peach.
How could I have completely forgotten about the pause feature in these games? ESPECIALLY with this game's gorgeous character models.
Always for perversion... Ahh Asia...
@Scottwood101 Yeah! Fragile things like women can also handle spicy food! Nintendo should man up and apologize
@Scottwood101 You are overthinking it........
@Bunkerneath Because for some reason I placed the 'Smash Bros' tag before 'Nintendo Switch' at the top of the article, and our Smash theme is blue.
No reason other than me being a doofus!
Inkling look so funny. XD
@SmaggTheSmug Plus, spicy foods increase blood pressure and body temperature, causing mild inflammation of the capillaries. This is most visible in the face, where people tend to draw their eyes to. It’s as much a fetish as drinking hot tea 😂
Some folks just wanna say things I guess.
@Scottwood101 This is Nintendolife, Not Kotaku or ResetEra.
@0muros Nah not everyone would just think of this as perversion, like as Cute for example.
Lol, you can take all kinds of fun, goofy, funny pics in Smash. Heck, you even unlock these pics in the challenges.
Blushing is overrated
Looking at this broadly, this isn't anything new as it's just capturing the characters in various poses to create a "scene". It's sometimes funny, other times lolwut, but it's all good. Make Smash "YOUR" Smash lol
SSBU - The gift that keeps on giving
Oh God, what have we done...
I guess Mario was fed up of being given the wrong type of “cake”.
Can't believe Nintendo has blood effects in its game. This game should be rated M for Mature. Offended and trading in my Switch for a V-tech.
On the topic of ratings... The official ESRB rating description is quite funny:
Rating Summary: This is a fighting game in which players engage in brawls with characters from Nintendo and third-party franchises. Players punch, kick, and perform super attacks (e.g., giant laser blasts, rocket barrages) against cartoony opponents to knock them off platforms; a handful of characters also swords, blasters, mallets, and firearms while fighting. Battles can be frenetic at times, with screen-shaking effects and large explosions. During the course of the game, players can unlock 2D character art that depicts female characters in revealing outfits (e.g., short skirts, deep cleavage, low-cut tops). One character emits flatulence gas clouds to attack opponents.
Don't take things too seriously, is there any way of typing a fishing rod emoji using a keyboard?
@Scottwood101 should have added /s 😜
Also to your second post 🎣 just copy and paste it.
@Scottwood101 I honestly try to at least think about the feelings of others in the typically male-oriented gaming community but this is one of the worst attempts at troll anger I’ve ever seen. Who’s your audience? People who bemoan ‘SJWs’ will tell you to shut up and people who self-identify as ‘SJWs’ aren’t stupid enough to take you seriously. People like you just make it harder for actual social issues to be taken seriously, as much as it’s a joke. Plus you got completely destroyed by @HobbitGamer
I'm proud of these people. If you have a problem with this, get out of the internet and go out.
@nessisonett how did i get destroyed? I made a comment about not enjoying female singers in response to someone who doesn't enjoy playing as female characters. That was a serious comment.
@Scottwood101 Get out of here with that crap dude.
This comment thread shows why the 'ignore' button exists...
Seriously, how many of these comments are genuinly about the article and how many are people replying to an obvious troll?
@frogopus Virtue Signalling is fundamentally different from White Knighting dude.
Virtue Signaling is the act of pointing out one's virtues or moral correctness on a particular issue.
White Knighting is basically the act of going to great lengths to defend something no matter how odious it is.
Huh, I am surprised I didn't notice that the curry actually causes blushes on characters in the game. You do have to appreciate the small details that they went through for this game.
@Scottwood101 Your attempt at trolling is just making things worse for people who actually raise valid points about toxicity in gaming. Crawl back into the hole you came from.
please never change, japan^^
@Scottwood101
I think I'll let Richter do the talking.
"Begone Monster, you do not belong in this world!"
@Matthew010 To be fair, whilst I see your point, your first and only comment in this thread so far is not actually talking about the subject of the article. Not trying to be rude, but I am now curious as to what you think regarding the subject.
What corners of the internet exactly? None of the images are perverted in the least. You could, I dunno, read the tweets before looking at the Japanese text and coming up with a racist conclusion. Thank you.
@MS7000 Yeah, I didn't notice it until the article pointed it out. I did notice that when a fighter gets zoomed in on during a final KO, they'll have a shocked expression and huge eyes. So many neat touches, you can tell folks worked hard on it.
@ryancraddock I like it, something different
I'd think anyone would be flushed after eating something spicy. It's cute, but why is this a big deal?
Brawl had a few funny results when eating super spicy curry too.
Like this.
If you've ever seen this floating around, I snapped this in Brawl years ago.
Seriously nintendolife, isnt there any news to post instead of these pointless stuff?
but i have to say that the mario / peach picture is "kinda" funny.
For a game with 70+ characters, the animations in Smash Bros are ridiculously good.
@MS7000 I think it's a cool feature that these Japanese people are taking too seriously.
@HobbitGamer Yeah, I remember seeing Sonic taking damage in the water on the Great Bay stage, being confused, and then remembering that he couldn't swim. Had a chuckle to myself with that one.
@Matthew010 They certainly seem perhaps overly enthusiastic, but I did get a cheap laugh at the inkling four-panel tweet.
Really it's Nintendo's fault for making Zelda so adorable.
@MS7000 Yeah, it was a bit funny, especially this one: https://mobile.twitter.com/stama/status/1071785007172046849
@Bruh But, in order for you to tell us that... it needed to be created first
@SmaggTheSmug It’s a long-standing anime trope; this really isn’t anything new.
@RupeeClock lol, that’s great, thanks
@frabbit Lol, Wario
@HobbitGamer Love your avatar
@Antraxx777 I'm pretty sure everyone knew that my comments was a joke 😉
@IceEarthGuard I imagine.
@Scottwood101 That's exactly my point too. Stereotype everywhere and they alienate everyone. Yes it's sexism.
? my website is sad, I have to write lots XD
Blessed images
@Scottwood101 The male Characters do it too.
Also, sarcasm doesn't work well in text form.
@NLkize and yet, you sensed sarcasm
G-A-L, what’s that spell? Get A Life!
This is adorable and harmless, which means people will find ways to be angry about it.
And those same people wont care about any real issues actually hurting people, they'll just whine about fictional characters instead.
@Ralizah Think about it the opposite way..... The game is so good you'll never wanna pause the action!
Further proof that human beings will fetishize anything and everything...
@Scottwood101 Really? You expect better from Nintendo? You've never... never ever seen sexism in their games before?
Princess Peach is always a damsel in distress, and the one time she does the saving, she uses emotions to do it.
Samus removes her bulky armor to reveal her voluptuous body in a skin-tight suit for players who do well enough after they beat the game.
Popo's death is the only one that matters. Killing Nana doesn't count as a KO.
Stop being an SJW if you can't even SJW.
@Scottwood101 oh shut up already; you’re an embarrassment to the human species with your SJW nonsense.
@AlternateButtons It's sexist. That's covered by social politics so it clearly belongs. What you meant was "Stop trying to make me consider other people's feelings".
Why don't the male characters blush? Males never get embarrassed? This is sexist and it's completely appropriate to call it out.
There's no reason for this disparity between the characters and it's ridiculous to assume that no female can handle spicy food.
@Shane76 How would the male characters blushing ruin your fun?
@Sabroni I would like to point out, one of the tweets in this article shows a blushing Chrom, so the Male characters do blush.
Thank goodness it's blushing and not the runs!
@KayFiOS Fun fact: Half of Ice Climbers' alternate costumes have Popo in the front while the other half has Nana in the front. It has been that way ever since they were first playable in Melee.
@MS7000 Fair play.
In that case perv away!
@Scottwood101 well done, you get 1 million outrage points
@AlternateButtons @RetiredR @darkswabber @MegaVel91 @KayFiOS @ElectricGhost @Scottwood101
I literally have never seen a joke go over SO many people's heads!!! I'm not sure I want to be part of this community anymore if everybody is this DUMB.
And with regards to the 'should have added /s' comment, do you ask stand up comedians to please clarify whether what they've said is serious or a joke? Just that I'm unable to decipher basic sentence structure!
Really riled me up seeing all of you come at this guy for what is clearly a damn joke. Just take a minute to use your brains rather than jump to a witch hunt. You're all just as bad as the people you're painting scottwood out to be.
@MajorasLapdog the joke didn’t go over my head. I specifically said “should have added /s” because I realized it was a joke and saw others didn’t.
It was a joke. Ofcourse he shouldn’t add /s, ofcourse that would ruin the joke.
Maybe I should have added /s?
Also I probably worded my reaction wrongly, english isn’t my first language and I’m autistic so I’m sorry for wording it wrong :/
EDIT: Also I while I really hate social justice I thought scottwoods joke was funny, once again sorry for giving the wrong impression to you :/
@MajorasLapdog also where the emoji’s I had in my reply visable to you? I was reading it back and they where pretty much a tattle tale I wasn’t attecking scottswood but was joking back at him.
I actually didn't know that. Excuse me wile I see if Ridley and K Rool also blush
@ElectricGhost Well, that was a rude thing to say. Sure, Scottwood's opinion may sound trollish, but you were just downright rude to him and getting triggered by what he said.
@Sabroni good grief- just shaddap.
@ElectricGhost Okay, now you're just being rude.
LOLZ. Politics, triggers, and social justice warriors, and gamer gate have nothing to do with the fact that stuff like this is a wonderful example of why Japanese women want nothing to do with Japanese men.
@MajorasLapdog just shush and go back to IGN, edgelord...
That's really hot.
Another fun tid-bit, pit and dark pit blush when grabbed as well.
@Scottwood101 go back to kotaku
Lol, somekind of fetish?
@Late I know. I just figured I'd make that part of the joke... Which apparently flew over more heads than I thought.
Japan was a mistake
Some of them are too funny. Like the inkling and Isabelle in the thumbnail.
@Bunkerneath It’s because of Smash Bros
