Devolver Digital has shared a launch trailer for Gris, a highly anticipated platformer set to arrive on Nintendo Switch tomorrow.
We've been keeping an eye on this one for some time here at Nintendo Life, instantly captivated by its gorgeous art and sound and the potential for an emotionally driven narrative truly worth exploring. The game tells the story of a hopeful young girl lost in her own world, dealing with a painful experience in her life; the official description reads: "Her journey through sorrow is manifested in her dress, which grants new abilities to better navigate her faded reality."
We recently shared a fantastic video from the development team at Nomada Studio, giving us a look into the making of the game and how it came into being. If you're at all interested in picking the game up, and especially if you find yourself needing to be convinced, we'd urge you to give it a watch.
In the meantime, rest assured that we'll have a review of the game for you very soon. Make sure to keep an eye out on Nintendo Life for that one.

Can’t wait to finally scratch this off my wish list. So pleased
The music might actually sell me on this game.
Art style is beautiful. This will probably be my last game of the year that I buy day one, gotta try it.
Wow. Just... wow. Art style, music... wow.
Might get this tomorrow, if price is decent.
@Realnoize I believe it $16 bucks in NA. Don’t know what it is elsewhere in the world
@LinkAtWild sadly a reviewer at Polygon said they wished it was a little longer. Still can't wait for this.
@LinkAtWild I believe that they've already confirmed that it's a roughly three-hour-long game. It's more focused on the artistic and emotional experience than length or challenge, I think.
Goddam that is gorgeous!
3 hours and, supposedly, no replay value. Hmmmm...
that's impossible to see.
not for me.
@LinkAtWild - I wouldn't either. But been burned before on the artsy games, so bad that this didn't even pique my interest.
Great to look at though.
@Gen0neD
So, living in Canada, that would mean about $20-$22 or so... + sales taxes... which would bring the price close to or over $25...
And given what others have been saying about the game being about 3 hours long with no replay value.... Not sure I'd say it is worth $25... Even as gorgeous as it is.
Will definitely put in my wishlist though. But I'll wait for a review, and probably a sale.
I've been excited for this game since it's announcement ! Love these indie developers with amazing visuals, music and stories.
And I always take forever when I play games, so the 3 hours for a regular person, is like 10 hours +.
I beat Pokemon emerald (when I was younger) in like 100 hours.... I remember and even took a picture because I was amazed it took me so long. I play games slowly
I can't wait to play this. I need to get a hole of that soundtrack too.
@Realnoize That’s sound reasoning. I’d probably do the same. Fair is fair
I'm not exactly sure why but I really dislike playing as female characters. I mean I am a male so maybe that is the reason? Is anyone the same as in they would rather play as a male character???
@proof21 Im a male and I like to play as female characters. If I cant then its not that serious.
@Ardisan Just outta pure curiosity, what makes you, a male, want to prefer to play as a female? I prefer to play as a male because that's what I am, and I can relate to it more. As for skin color or anything like that I don't really care, would actually choose blue if I could.
I’ve had my Switch since launch...this is the first game that my wife wants to play on it, haha. Guess I gotta get it.
Looks great.
Even if it is a 3 hour long game. (probably would take longer for me). I would still get it for full price because it looks so Beautiful and would probably give me the feels and that the developers put their heart in it. And that to me justify's the price.
@proof21 I used to be like that when I was like 12-13 and younger. But not anymore, I like to play as any Gender now in games (depends on the game).
Lots of lady-centric games out theses days, can only be a good thing
@IceEarthGuard Okay, it's the total reversal for me, I used to like playing as female characters when I was 12 and younger. I identified more with females when I was younger, I liked dolls, make up, little figures, etc. As I got older I kinda just started identifying with "male identity" more. And yes there are certain games in which I don't playing as a female.
@proof21
I like to play as female characters..... Even though I am male.
I feel that it is because I grew up with an older sister and I look up to her. I even liked the music she liked (I mean I still like her music haha)
Maybe that's why? I also like how dresses flow in the wind, even coats (idk why this is, just like clothes that flow in the wind )
But I don't mind playing with males. Sometimes I choose girls because they have such better clothing options and hair styles.
Maybe because I'm gay..... But I'm not transgender or whatever term of the week.
.... But I never really thought to deep about it, just choose a character. Good conversation
I played through a review code of this today. It's a pleasant game. Consistently fun and very gentle. The lack of conflict is sometimes laughable - for example, escaping one "boss" is entirely automatic - but the puzzles are clever. Also, it must be the first time in gaming history where the underwater sections are the best levels.
It's not a breakout indie classic on the level of Celeste, but it's an enjoyable way to spend three hours (I started at 6pm; finished around 9:30 with a break for food). It's also utterly gorgeous - get your thumb ready on the screenshot button. The music is agonisingly twee at times.
Overall, 6.5/10.
@proof21 Okay I may not like playing as girls when I was young, but I did play with dolls by making them kiss XD and can't remember but some make up thingy I think I played around with when I was like 7-8 and younger.
And what do you mean about "Little Figures"?
@LinkAtWild Ehh, I'd rather play a short but tightly made 3 hour game than have a 10 hour game that is 7 hours of pointless filler content.
A ticket to a 2 hour movie can be as much as 15 bucks. Don't see why a 3 hour game can't cost the same.
@IceEarthGuard I meant like little toys, figurines, trinkets, stickers. But to be honest I still like those things and I think I always will. But my parents used to scold me for liking such things.
I agree with some of the others in the fact this looks WAY too zoomed out for me. I play my switch 90% of the time in handheld due to my travel schedule and I think this would be a problem for me. Will wait for a review to see if this is addressed
@proof21 I'm a man with a short beard and a decidedly deep voice, and I always play as women/girls when I can. I really like playing as someone I'm not, especially when it comes to biological sex. It is fun and curious how, to some people, they prefer that level of relatability and realism, whereas some people, like myself, are totally uninterested in just playing the same as we are in real life!
@MagicEmperor I get what you're saying. I appreciate everybody's reasoning because it might help me to enjoy these games where there is a female protagonist a bit more.
@proof21 I don't mind playing as a female, what I cannot get into however, are bands with female lead singers. I even struggle to accept a band that has a female musician in it. No idea why.
£4.67 on the russian eshop for anyone interested
@LinkAtWild £4.67 on the russian eshop
@Gen0neD £4.67 on russian eshop
@Realnoize £4.67 russian eshop
@Fake-E-Lee £4.67 russian eshop
@proof21 I find this topic fascinating! Thanks for bringing it up!
@Fake-E-Lee nah there's none of that nonsense with the Russian eshop. Just login and pay for it. Same goes for most eshops, it's only north American ones which seem to have that issue. Most of my games come from South Africa, Russia or Norway as for some reason their prices are ridiculous.
@Fake-E-Lee use savecoins.me for any future purchases, tells you how much each game is across each store with the cheapest at the top.
@LinkAtWild All I can say is that dollars per hour is not the only metric one should use to determine how enjoyable something would be.
As an aside, comparing just about ANY game to BoTW will make that game look bad. BoTW is just that good.
@proof21
I'm a guy, but when I'm playing a game, it's an experience to enjoy differently from real life. Games are often an attractive pastime because they are dreams of doing.
I can't jump 20 feet in the air, handle a machine gun, or fight with a sword, but I do relate to characters who can, through their motivations, emotions, and decisions. So, playing as female characters can be a treat for me to get a potentially different perspective, the same as jumping 20 feet, yet grounded in human motivation, emotions, and decisions to relate to.
