As we come to the end of yet another week, it's time to take a moment or two to discuss which amazing games we'll be enjoying over the weekend. That "Ultimate Smashing" game may well have released just last week, but there are plenty of other experiences being had by Team Nintendo Life this time around. Turns out we're a pretty cultured bunch after all... Anyway, feel free to give our entries a read, and then put forward your own entries via our poll and comment section below. Enjoy!

After claiming I was done with new games until the new year, discounts on ABZU and Wolfenstein II had me flushing that plan down the pan. Both Everspace and Kingdom Two Crowns are still drawing me back after playing them for review and, having tracked down a jolly Solaire of Astora amiibo, I should probably jump back into Dark Souls, or perhaps get beyond the opening of Mario + Rabbids. Oh, and this morning I saw that Quarantine Circular had launched and used my remaining US credit on that, too.
Last night I also came home to a freshly delivered Flip Grip, so until Downwell launches I’ll be testing it out with arcade Donkey Kong. I should probably get some shmups, too – I hear Ikaruga is rather good…
So, as you can see, I almost definitely won’t be heading to the eShop again until 2019. Youbetcha.

Sorry to go for the obvious choice, but I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that my weekend will consist of more Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The last couple of Smash releases didn't really grab me as much as Melee did in my younger days, but I'm absolutely loving every moment of my time with Ultimate. From playing random local multiplayer games to blasting my way through the surprisingly long World of Light mode, the whole thing has been a blast.
At some point, I really hope to be brave enough to explore new characters and properly learn all there is to know about each fighter and stage to give me an edge in battle. Currently, I only truly feel safe playing as Kirby, but I'm starting to see some weak points that could well be sorted by using someone else. Where to begin, though!?

This weekend I'll be returning to one of my favourite games of 2016 - the engaging and emotive story of Firewatch. It's about to make its debut on Nintendo Switch so I'll be putting Henry and Delilah's journey through a forest full of mystery through its paces once more. Look out for my full verdict next week.
Elsewhere, I'll be carrying on my love affair with Warframe. Seriously, how does it run and look this good on Switch? Someone definitely sold their soul to the Devil...

While I could simply write "Smash!" and walk away, I can’t ignore the amount of quality that rolled up this week onto the eShop. One of my personal favourite games of 2017 is now on the Switch and I’m losing my mind all over again in the procedurally generated sectors of Everspace. We also have the brilliant Desert Child, the astonishing Conduct Together!, the solitude of Starman and the gorgeous visuals of Omensight: Definitive Edition. Despite being late to the party, it's excellent to have Juan back on the Switch; Guacamelee! 2 is just as incredible as its predecessor!
Yet, despite this incredible quality, none of the aforementioned titles reaches the visual/audio heights of GRIS, my game of the week and quite possibly another personal GOTY candidate! It truly is the season… of bankruptcy.

No surprises for guessing what I’m playing this weekend. Yep, it’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch. For the majority of the first week, I’ve been familiarising myself with the technical aspects of the game and training up with a bunch of new and old fighters. If you must know, I tend to practice with Link, Kirby and Inkling.
If I’m in need of a break, I think I’ll spend my time rolling about in Katamari Damacy Reroll. Else I might finally spend some of my precious gaming moments playing the Switch eShop version of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. It’s definitely one I’ll be enjoying when I’m out and about.

Forza Horizon 3 and Breath of the Wild Shrine hunting for me!
There's a splatfest today...
Arena of Valor has been eating my time away and I just started Dragon Quest 11.
I'm pretty much done with smash after about 20 hours.
Monster Boy, Diablo 3 and Smash Ultimate.
More Okami - which I hated on PS2, now I'm loving it - and Splatoon 2.
Never liked Smash and I'm very disappointed about Everspace. It looks awesome but it bores me af.
I’ve gotten really addicted to Smash, collecting spirits and recruiting new fighters. Tomorrow’s my birthday, will probably spend a big part of it playing Switch games, something I’ve little time for otherwise.
The self imposed wait for Smash at Christmas is killing me.
I’m mostly playing the Sega Mega Drive Collection (love Gunstar Heroes) and dipping back into Diablo 3.
I am playing sonic the hedgehog (still one of my favourite games of all time) and will try a couple more things on the mega drive collection. Let's see if I launch fantasy star to start my first ever journey through the series
Finally gave in and bought Smash! It’s really good fun. I keep losing new challenger matches though which is soooo annoying!! I want more characters to play with.
Going to be participating in today's Splatfest obviously. Aside from that also the very thing this Splatfest is inspired by of course.
Got two more chapters of Octopath Traveler to go, plus two or three side dungeons and whatever endgame there is, and then I'll be ready to move on to something else. It's been a very good RPG, and I'll probably hit about 90hrs before I'm done. Even now, coming up to 80hrs, I still occasionally stop to admire the scenery.
Smash Bros Ultimate! I am in Love with this game.
As ultimate is my first game in the series, i have one question:
How exactly are players supposed to play competetive? There is no option like „ranked match“ or something like a rating, is there? Is this planned for the Future?
Also i would like to know which Match settings do „professionell“ players in tournaments play with? I Could Not find that out...
Thanks for answering!
I finally went back and finished Chrono Trigger for the first time.
It's such a wonderfully paced little game in a genre that usually goes for sheer length. I've no clue why I always stopped short of finishing it in the past.
Diablo 3 and Train Sim World (PS4).
Splatfest and Stardew Valley multiplayer with my daughter
And probably some Graceful Explosion Machine. Got two levels to get S+ on.
Smash, Dark Souls and the SEGA Classic Collection
Stardew Multiplayer with my S/O. We love this game
@CrimsonMoonMist There is no such thing because Nintendo doesn't support the official tournament scene in the game. The only thing there is, are unofficial and official events where players duke it out live on stage.
As for the rules: Often its just Omega Stage, 2 Stock, no Items
I was playing Smash last night and then had enough, so decided to play Monster Boy, however as I have it on a physical cartridge and the missus was asleep next to me I decided to play something from the system memory, so as not to disturb her when I hunted for it (because cartridges hide from me when it gets dark). I dropped on a game I've been meaning to look at for a while - Detention. What a corking game, very creepy. So, round the houses but that's my game of choice this weekend.
Not many NintendoLife staff playing games atm (esp from main staff I see on site)?
I'll be playing Smash Bros. Maybe even take those blushing pics in between.
Trying to finish up Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag before finally starting up Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
I’m playing Smash. And Smash. And even more Smash.
Smash! What else?
Whoops, forgot about the Splatfest. Added it to the poll! I'll be sure to make some time for it as well.
1. Bloodborne
2. Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance
3. God of War
Smash Ultimate, LA Noire and Fate/Extella.
Warframe. Splatoon mandatory Splatfest followed by more Warframe (i really need to farm Meso Relics guys).
Smash, Stardew, Hearthstone and Civilization 6.
Since the cat decided to wake me at 530, I suppose it’s time for Smash. Maybe Jack just wants to see Incineroar? (Joke’s on him, it’s Ness’ weekend)
The bestie also grabbed herself a copy yesterday, so I’ll be thrashing her local and online until she learns proper fighting. It’s tough love.
Yoshis Woolly World and Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
Smash and maybe Splatoon 2 for the Smash themed Splatfest.
Unfortunately I’m busy with papers for school, but it’s my final semester. So if I have any free time, it’ll be playing some matches of Smash Bros or starting Guacamelee 2
Smash and Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice.
@SterlingEyes
You can unlock in Adventure/spirit mode as well. And through amiibos I think. Haven’t tried that myself.
Picked up a copy of Yooka-Laylee for $28 on the eShop... I’d been eyeing it for months and could no longer resist in the face of a discount. Really looking forward to launching that this weekend. Otherwise I’ve got it bad for Skyrim, which I’m playing through for the first time. It’s so absorbing I think about it all day at work and can’t wait to get back to it when I return home.
Before I bought a Switch earlier this year, it’d been 15 years since I’d owned a console or been any kind of gamer. I must say I’ve had so much fun with the Switch and my return to the hobby. It’s been a great year.
Enjoy your weekend folks!
Vrally 4 and Smash.
Enjoy a smashing weekend!
Split between Smash Bros and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (I'm really getting into this game)
Still so much to do in Smash before I can rest... Only unlocked 46 fighters so far and the character screen already looks overcrowded... Seems insane now that Smash 4 only had 3 or 4 hidden away at the start...
Splatfest for me. Finished Breath of the Wild but it hasn't given me my Zelda fix, I wanted some meaty dungeons and all the cool items like the hookshot. Am hoping the next Zelda game is more like every other one but BOTW.
Gris. Feels like the game Bound on PS4 but better. Most artsy looking games have little gameplay but this Gris does has a lot of interesting ideas in platforming puzzle. This is not just a good looking game, it's fun to play.
Guacamelee 2!! Man, I’m having a great time with it!
Rayman legends and surpsingly, nso nes games. The last few days ive jumped back in playing some of the classics. Tecmo bowl works really well with a single joy con. LoZ not so much 🤔
Recently discovered Civ6' hot-seat mode on my softmodded Switch, Smash on my other Switch & Ni No Kuni fan translation on 3DS.
The Messenger. Great controls. Just a couple of annoying areas where it’s a bit unfair.
F-Zero GX. Definitely better than FAST Racing.
Gris and diablo 3
1. Portal Knights (Switch)
Keep continue building my town on Creative Mode.
2. Animal Crossing New Leaf (3DS)
Keep maintaining my 2nd town, Nova.
3. LEGO CITY undercover (Switch)
Finish an Assignment Mission, wandering around the city with six pack and destroying the cars nearby with Astronout's Ray Gun.
Between Mario tennis aces. Let’s go p. Mario party and smash
Smash and Gear Club 2.
subnautica (pc) and randomized pokemon x
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will take up most of my time but if I get a chance I'll also play some games from the Sega Genesis Classics collection and start Guacamelee 2.
Dude, I'm a Medafighter champ! I love Medabots! I'm also participating in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Splafest! No one messes with me!
Oh and I started up Dragon Ball Fusions again with a new game, I had this game for a long time and haven't played for soo long. Also I restarted LBX.
Hollow knight, need to finish it at 100% and Membrane its only 1$ on eshop I'll give it a try.
Everspace, Warframe, and some Knights of Pen and Paper. Also grabbed Prey on PC, so Im looking forward to that.
1. NinoKuni 2's The Lair of the Lost Lord DLC
2. Darksiders 3 (actually not bad - hard, but good)
2. Starlink (Switch Version)
Everspace (doing a review for my site being ROCKFISH Games was generous enough to give us a review copy), Smash of course, Civ 6, and Splatoon 2 if I have some time.
Splatfest and AC Odyssey
Traveling this weekend so Super Mario Run and solitaire on the iPhone.
Twinkle Crusaders GoGo! (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VisualNovel/TwinkleCrusaders)
WWE 2011
Little Big Planet
Call of Duty on PSP
Smash Bros Ultimate
i also got NBA and Madden NFL 11 (although, im not into these games. they just came with the used PSP
that i bought on amazon.)
Stardew Valley
Gris
Smash.Really getting into WoL
Sega Genesis Collection
Monster Boy
Super smash bros ultimate
Sega Mega Drive Collection
Final Fantasy XIV (PC)
SSBU
Overwatch
Subnautica (Free on PC on Epic Games)
MHGU & GRIS for me.
I know it has been out for a while but I am still on Dark Souls (I have beaten it 4 times) Diablo 3 still gets played but between those two I have been unlocking characters in smash. Just unlocked Mr Game and Watch.
I’ll be trying to finish Xenoblade Chronicles for the 3DS so I can finally get to the second one. And Smash.
Probably be playing Torna mostly. Definitely one of the best dlc/expansions I've bought since The Witcher.
Splatoon 2 - Playing in the Splatfest!
What in the World? (Windows Phone) - Still time killing...
Fallout 3 (Games For Windows) - Still watching a Let's Play.
Quantum Break (Windows Store) - Constantly crashing on me so far...
Just picked up xenoblade chronicles Torna golden country , enjoying it so far. My first taste of the xenoblade franchise. Just finished smash world of light which was really fun, and thinking about picking up Guacamelee 2
Probably won't be doing a whole lot of gaming. Too busy with decorating for Christmas, writing Christmas cards and cleaning up. Plus the World Championship for darts has started. Might sneak in a couple of rounds of Fortnite.
I got will wonderful world and cat quest on the european sale, I'm loving those! So probably gonna keep playing them and eventually finish cat quest, i heard it was a 7 hours long game
I didn't have much time to game this past week, otherwise I probably would have finished Golden Sun: The Lost Age before now. I'm pretty sure I'm getting close to the end, but we'll see. XD I also plan to jump back into Majora's Mask 3D after letting Termina sit in limbo for the past three weeks....
Have a great weekend all!
I've picked up Gris. Gonna play it on my lazy Saturday evening. Spider-Man on PS4 is on sale now, so I'll be playing that on Sunday.
Smash Bros, I haven’t touched any other Switch game since Smas was released. I wanna play Mario Tennis and SNK Heroines but I can’t put Smash down.
I’m gonna play a lot of Smash (duh), and some SNES Classic!
A friend and I tried Pro Wrestling via SWO last night and we had hysterical fun, probably because it was really late, but still, it was hilarious in a weird way! I’m gonna play it with my siblings today, maybe.
I also got to play some of the Splatfest yesterday! I’m a little disappointed the Shifty Station isn’t shaped like a Smash Ball, haha.
Everyone have a safe, fun, and blessed weekend! 😃
PS4:. Battlefield V
Switch: Mutant Football League Dynasty Edition
Just picked up Wolfenstein II today on the Switch. So will most likely be playing that and dipping into Diablo III and SteamWorld Dig 2
I just started Telltale's Batman last night. Not really sure yet but I'm leaning towards "this is not for me".
I'm still fighting through Starlink, gearing up to what I think is the endgame. Lots of fun, I still have so much to explore to complete the game.
Hoping to get to a Gamestop today to pick up Katamari as well.
Gonna (probably) finish GRIS and in between that I'll play Paladins (on Switch) and some World of Warcraft.
Just bought Gris. £4.67 from Russian eshop. Bargain!
I'll be playing more Pokémon Let's Go, finally got my shiny Nidoran so I'll be training it up to beat the Master Trainers in that evolutionary line. Might hop back into Katamari to improve my scores, and possibly Kirby to continue on in the new mode from the final update.
I was really feeling conflicted about buying a game this week, I wanted to pick up Gris but then I heard that Rain World was out and I cannot resist platformers of this style. So I opted for Rain World. It looks deep, dark, & challenging, can't wait to tear into it.
God of war for the long sit down story time, and smash during the gaps a free time.
Smash of course! Will sneak in some Splatoon 2 matches for the splatfest though
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Splatoon 2.
Smash. It's my first time playing any of those games. I can't explain or justify why I've never tried them before. I've also gotten Street Fighter IV 3D for the 3DS in the sale, and I find it quite good. Guess I'm in a fighting mood!
It will be Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Octopath Traveler, and Wario's Woods.
Fire Emblem Warriors, finally.
Warframe addiction is in full swing, but will force myself to take Smash breaks. 😁
I'm juggling Smash, Warframe and Stardew Valley multiplayer. This year certainly ended with a bang!
Gris was really excellent. Gonna try and get all the collectables. Bought Katamari as well so I'll play that inbetween Smash.
@CrimsonMoonMist I agree with you it's an awesome game, but this isn't a ''little game'' like you said. I think it took me 20 + hours to finish it. The website How long to beat mark it 26 to 45 hours which is a lot for a snes game and long enough for today standard.
Oh damn, forgot about the splatfest! Shouldn't there be a reminder in the news bit of the switch? Unless its not on in Europe? Will check in a minute.
Otherwise, played a 2nd runthrough of Oxenfree (love it - 2 plays of it is enough but very atmospheric and i think I'll get the soundtrack on bandcamp. Also mario bros 3 on nso - even after all this time its still great. Played some warframe too although im starting to find it a little repetitive. I do like it, but with big games like Odessey, Skyrim and XC2 on the backlog, I feel I should move on.
Oh, also played a bit of SSB and mario kart 8 on wii u yesterday as my son was hogging the switch. Really tempted by SSBU but never seem to play SSB games enough to warrant the purchase, going back to the n64 one, so trying to resist.
Sorry for the essay, enjoy the rest of the weekend all!
Zelda Breath of the Wild. I'm afraid I don't like it as much as I was expecting. Silly NPCs, uninteresting side quests and same monsters over and over.
So in Stardew Valley the main 2 events added for the single player are in the Winter, I loaded up my save and I was at the start of Spring, Year 5. Got a lot more farming ahead of me!
Starlink battle for Atlas has my full attention. Seemed a bit weird and tiring at the first but as you get into this game.. You get to like it.. A LOT
Let’s Go Eevee.
Bit of Smash Bros. Bit of Dark Souls.
Captain Toad,
finishing Blossom Tales and hopefully starting Guacamelee 2,
and the usual Hearthstone.
Okami HD. Smash is on hold until I beat this game. I reckon I'm over halfway and it's starting to get much more interesting.
For me is whas,
Smash
Katamari
Octopath travlers
My intentions were to play God of War and Gris but with my son having his friends over I was only able to use my Switch. Instead of starting Gris I ended up playing Mulaka more and then I got hooked on it. I ended up putting in about 9 hours into the game and finishing it on Sunday morning. Other than that, I started up Smash a little and played a little of Membrane (only .99 on the NA eshop right now).
Starlink and Phantasy Star IV all night long. Walkin' in spaceships, baby.
@Xaritah Hi there, could you maybe add me on discord, please? I send you a friend request some days ago ^^
@gamecubefun sorry i haven't been online lately 😅 what's your name on discord?
@Xaritah No worries, I kinda figured out that you weren't lol. My username is Ethica#6880
