Krambo42 commented on Feature: Five 'New Things' We Want in Super Sm...:

There is nothing wrong with DLC for a game like this or MK8 as long as the game feels complete when it first comes out (which seems to be the case here). New stages and characters that are released later keep the game fresh and exciting.

If MK8 had all of these courses and characters that are coming out soon since day 1, people would be just as tired of playing them as they are everything else in the game. Instead, there's gonna be renewed interest in the game next month, and then again a few months later. I really don't see how that's a bad thing.

I suppose the best argument would be that they could at least make the DLC free, and yeah, that'd be nice, but it's not realistic. Nintendo's pricing for the MK8 DLC is very reasonable, I think.

@CaptMcCloudAran If these DKC games do, in fact, come to NA, the only SNES game missing that I really care about is Star Fox. Though, I'd like it if the Super Star Wars games and Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures could come to the Wii U's VC so I wouldn't have to go into Wii mode for 'em (not a huge deal if they don't, though).

@ryanator008 Yeah, it seemed weird to me that they announced two of the Castlevania games in separate weeks but they are being released on the same day...I kinda got the feeling that Nintendo told them "no...that week is for us". At least, I hope that's what's going on here.

Krambo42 commented on Nintendo 64x64: Mario Golf:

This is a pretty fun game (every Mario Golf game is), but I would never choose to play any of them over NES Open which, after all these years/sequels is still my favorite. The simplicity...the music...the pacing...yeah. That's the Mario Golf game for me.

@ZenTurtle Oh yeah, it would absolutely make more sense for handheld games to be on the current handheld. But for admittedly selfish reasons, I'm pretty glad they aren't. Though like you said, they should just release each title on each console. I absolutely agree with that.

@ZenTurtle I don't mean to take anything away from your comment because I do feel bad for people who would prefer GBA games on 3DS...but I happen to LOVE that they are on the Wii U. Games like Metroid Fusion, Minish Cap and now the Castlevania games...man...I'd much rather play them on a console. I am not much of a handheld gamer at all but I loved my GBA because the games felt like SNES games. Now that I can play them on a TV, they're perfect.

Of course, ideally they'd just be available on both the Wii U and the 3DS...but if it's just gonna be one of them, I, for one, would prefer that they stay on the Wii U. I'm loving these GBA releases on the VC.

@Genesaur Not only what @Faruko said, but also...you want a list of 64 great N64 games? Personally, I love 2 and think that 2-3 more were pretty fun at the time (but I have no desire to ever play them again). Seems to me that some less than great games are going to be necessary.

Anyway, though I didn't care much for the N64, I'm loving this feature. I look forward to reading the reviews/comments every day, even if most days I'm left thinking "yep...still never want to play that game/play that game again".

Krambo42 commented on Nintendo 64x64: GoldenEye 007:

Eh, I never liked this game. I wanted to! All my friends (and everybody else in the world) loved it, I'm a huge James Bond fan, you could play with 3 friends for hours...but ugh, it just never clicked with me. It's worth mentioning, though, that I've never liked first person shooters. If I were to rate it based on the amount of fun I had with it...I'd probably give it a 6/10? I realize, though, that it's a very well made and important game that just wasn't for me, so 8/10 would probably be more reasonable. Hmm...I'll split the difference and say 007/10.

Nice/refreshing to see a review from somebody who didn't love the game. I've certainly had my fun with it, but I never thought it was anywhere near as good as the original. It's easily my least favorite game from the series (though I've never played Super Circuit).

@UnseatingKDawg Eh, I don't care at all about games being stuck in Wii mode. I would gladly upgrade anything that does get released to the Wii U's eshop, but if I have to go into Wii mode...well, no big deal. I'm right there with you waiting for the DKC trilogy, though. I already have 1 and 2 on my SNES but I'd love to be able to play them on my Wii U instead, and I never got a chance to play 3...

Krambo42 commented on Poll: Which Is The Best Super Mario Platformer?:

I am NOT a fan of 3D Mario. The games aren't bad, but they aren't nearly as much fun for me as 2D Mario games. But man...it's tough to pick a 2D one. They're all so darn good.

I'm actually gonna go with SMB2. There's just something about that game...

@DuggyFresh You don't consider a decrease from $50 to $5 pretty significant depreciation?

And yeah, Pushmo for $10 is better value than 40 minutes' worth of gaming, but:

1-you went out of your way to name really short games. There are many VC games that you'd get much more out of. I feel like most people who complain aren't only referring to these short games, but all VC games.

2-how many of those games would people actually buy even at $2 or $3?

3-just because it's 20 minutes that doesn't mean you wouldn't play it over and over again and get your money's worth. I seriously doubt that somebody would download Donkey Kong, play it once, and never touch it again. And even if they do...

4-I think you are missing the point I'm trying to make. I'm just saying, since when is $5 a lot of money? Especially for a game that you will own and be able to play as much as you want? Maybe you can get a more fulfilling experience for the same money (or less), but that's kind of the nature of video games. Some are short, some are long, some are very replayable, some you'll never touch again...that's just how it is. You're not gonna get 1,000 hours out of every game you buy.

Krambo42 commented on Nintendo Download: 21st August (North America):

@Sadodi I'm not saying they have to appeal to everybody. Obviously not every game appeals to everybody. But there has been a noticeable improvement in the quality of games over the last few weeks. If people don't like Mega Man, for example, that's fine. But I don't think anybody would argue that they are bad games totally undeserving of being on the VC.

@Olmectron Oh, no, don't worry about it...I didn't think you were being rude, just...I don't know...it seems to me that these last 3 weeks have been a lot closer to what people have been hoping for. Of all the times to complain, this just seemed like a weird time to me. If none of these games are for you, that's fine, but they've been releasing a good number of quality games lately. Even next week when Donkey Kong Jr. Math hits, I think we're supposed to get Mega Man X3, which is huge. We've been getting more quality, more SNES, just...more. I'd say things are looking up. Of course, we'll see if it lasts.

@Olmectron

2 weeks ago: Super Mario Kart, Mega Man 5, Cybernator
Last week: Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge, Double Dragon 2
This week: Mega Man 6, Life Force

Wow, you're hard to please. A Nintendo classic from the SNES, a well-reviewed Konami game, 2 NES Mega Man games, one of the best shooters on the NES (if not the best), a classic beat 'em up and some Mega Man battle game that people seem to love? I'd say these are 3 of the best weeks in a long time.

Krambo42 commented on Talking Point: A Virtual Console Revival Could...:

Every time I read an article about Virtual Console pricing I feel like I have stepped into some alternate dimension or something. $5 is too much for a game? Are you kidding me? And $2 would be ok? That difference of $3 is seriously what is stopping people from buying NES games on the VC? Seriously, what in the world is going on here? Even if the game is short or terrible and you never touch it again, it's $5. People spend more than that on a burger or a beer that lasts all of 2 minutes. Of course people would buy more games if they were cheaper, but the same could be said for anything.

I have a ton of VC games, and I have had no issue paying $5-$10 for any of them. It's a video game that I can play as much as I want any time I want. How is that not worth it?

If a game isn't worth $5 to you, maybe you just don't want that game.

Krambo42 commented on Talking Point: A Virtual Console Revival Could...:

I have absolutely no problem with how the VC is handled. I think pricing is fair, I have no interest in a subscription service, I don't really even care about crossbuy (I'd use it, but I tend to like playing console games on consoles and handheld games on handhelds, with the possible exception of GBA games which I actually prefer on the Wii U)...my ONLY complaint is that there aren't enough games.

"This release would break the trend of one 3D Mario game per system, but as a reaction to the times and in the quest to give the Wii U a steady flow of games, it may be the moment to bend that rule."

Didn't the Mario Galaxy games already do that?

Anyway, I wouldn't buy any of these. I didn't really like the Mario Galaxy games, I don't think the Metroid games need an HD upgrade (they already look great), I loved Eternal Darkness but don't have any interest in playing it again, I never cared much for Wave Race, and, well, F-Zero would be pretty cool, but I seriously doubt they'd ever do that.

@Yorumi I don't know for sure, but I'd guess that they would. I got Japanese CCPs that work on my US Wii just fine.

Anyway, I'll get a couple of these as long as they feel good and work correctly. I'd actually rather use these than my old Gamecube controllers.

@Grumblevolcano I mean, I'm no expert on licensing, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean the license is just in limbo. SOMEBODY must have the rights to it, right? And if nobody does, why would it be an issue?

I don't know, maybe this isn't the time or place for this conversation, I just feel like there's a way to get past this issue, if it even is the real reason it's not on the VC.

Krambo42 commented on Super Mario Kart Speeds Onto the North America...:

@tysonfury Good question. Honestly, that and the SNES Donkey Kong Country games are the only games that I really care about that are missing at this point. I know people talk about issues with the Super FX chip or whatever, but to that I say figure it out. It's a classic Nintendo game and it needs to be on the VC with the other classics, whatever it takes.

Krambo42 commented on The Game Boy is 25 Years Old in North America:

@3DSfan134 I don't think their reactions are that bad, honestly. I mean, as great as the Gameboy is, it does seem kinda silly when you can have something smaller with a color screen and countless games to play without cartridges. I mean, I prefer the Gameboy, but I get why a kid wouldn't. I was actually surprised they liked it as much as they did (some more than others, of course). Plus, were they even aware that it plays more than just Tetris?
