The Nintendo Treehouse: Live Day 2 is well underway, and while playing through a segment of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Nintendo accidentally showed off the icons for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! by going to the home screen.
You can see a screenshot of the slip below, which was quickly captured by @Magitroopa on Twitter.
The Smash icon in the picture looks like it could well be some kind of placeholder - we imagine the final thing will be much more bright and colourful. The Pokémon games certainly look like the real deal, though - and they look as bright and cuddly as you might expect.
Not too long to wait until our consoles have those icons all lined up nicely, too!

Please don’t let the Smash icon be that ugly...
Hopefully no one gets fired.
What's the big deal?
I doubt the Ultimate one is final, but Let's Go's probably are, which look how they should honestly
It shouldn’t be such a slow news day, 25 hours after Nintendo’s E3 presentation!!!
Icons don't matter.
Who says this was an accident?! Why is this news?
Who cares nintendolife!
Why should it even be a secret in the first place?
Is that even an "oops" kind of mistake? Just seems inconsequential enough that they shouldn't even care if people see or not.
@Octane: It's a secret to everybody.
Oooops they just showed off over cooked 2 as well.
@-Juice- I don’t understand it either. When the Vita was first shown I remember hating the icons but as it turned out, they were placeholders and looked completely different when it launched. Same thing here. The Smash logo is generic and not final but it’s not finished.
Yeah because the icons of fully announced games should never be seen in public 😆
Icon lovers. Pfffft.
I came here to see what users I should use the ignore button on, honestly. Folks getting mad about the picture even existing as a moment in time. I like the Pokemon icons, though!.
Nooo!Spoiler!...no really,who cares?
I think it was actually planned and they just've shown that Shulk is in XC2.
Do people really care about this?
You know it's a "down year" at E3 when you write an article about icons being revealed.
@Tyranexx gasp Link confirmed for Smash!
Why is this news? Are home screen icons such a big deal that they have to be kept secret?
@Deku-Scrub Agreed!
I was watching the stream and the dude hit Home and was like “Oops my bad” and I thought it was hilarious
Then I went back to see if he accidentally leaked any new games 😂
Lol, why is this news?
Oh my god! What a shocking reveal! Where's my inhaler?!
When I was moderating a Photoshop jam (basically, a marathon where Photoshop and its user's artworks were featured), one of Adobe's poor evangelists---who was up for more than 24 hours---accidentally launched the beta version of Photoshop (which no one other than everyone involved in the beta had access to) in front of everyone, live, over the Internet.
We were cracking up behind the digital curtain. He quickly realized what he had done and closed it down. It was a big nothingburger though, other than being good for a chuckle. We all lived. He still has his job. xD
But this? I don't get how this was a slip. They're icons. How else are they supposed to get access to whatever's on the console?
@MH4 I did the same when that happened, it’s a shame nothing leaked
Scraping the barrel comes to mind.
I don't see what the big deal is?
Those Pokémon icons look so so good. As does the cover art. I love the super large Pikachu and Eevee artwork. It’s gonna really pop between all the other big games on store shelves.
I think it would only constitute as an “oops” if these icons (with the games) ended up on a consumer Switch. Mine please
@Deku-Scrub Oh well! Hopefully they show something that’ll wow us during Treehouse. But I doubt it.
The Treehouse stream did sell me on Super Mario Party, however.
Who the hell cares
Just give us new avatars and folders for hypes sake. I’m sure people would love to use a Smash character they’re planning to main.
They're not exactly letting the cat out of the bag, are they.
It's them confirming that Animal Crossing wasn't even considered for 2018.
I'm not sure something as insignificant as this would have even been news during the lean mean Wii U years.
omg.. what a revelation this is.
That Smash icon isn't that bad, actually. But an action-filled colorful one like the Splatoon 2 icon would be better.
(Fixed the spam. Sorry! ^.^')
@MoonKnight7 @OorWullie @Octane
It was done on purpose so Ntinedo has an excuse not to show up at E3 next year. The whole Treehouse crew is fired. /s
Considering all the icon placeholder eShop network spoil everything hacks over the past week seeing icons for games we already know about - practically the only games Switch has at the moment - really has to be pretty low on Ntinedo's list of concerns when it comes to the Switch's security or identity.
Now if there was a Netflix or Youtube icon, then we could talk.
Oops! I think they just accidentally published this article as if it was useful information
What’s up with heavy negativity here. It’s honestly more embarrassing than the silly article.
What's the squiggly line symbol on the top right between the airplane and the battery? I own 3 switches and I've never seen that
God, it's Snake Pass all over again...
Why is this even a "mistake"? Did they say they weren't supposed to show us and quickly cut away? It's just an icon, it's hardly a spoiler
Another "no real news" article from Nintendo Life. Click bait headlines, articles that are only two lines long, reviews with inconsistent grading and writing, writers' opinion articles that the read like they came from a 6 year old child's mind, comment section with a decade old structure, old fashioned "hello lovely people" monologue videos . Why does this happen to my long favourite site?
no way Smash will be grey box with the smash logo, it will be the typical colourfull Nintendo logo with multiple characters in it, the Pokemon ones I believe could look like that
The Ultimate icon is probably not final. Switch game icons usually match their retail game box art
In before these get changed because they got leaked.
I'm more disturbed that they don't have the black background.
This newspost is like "she showed ankles" or "a bag of rise in china fell over". I'd rather get a leak on when animal crossing will get a release.
Oh no!
To be fair, not once in the article did Ryan say this was a big deal. All he said was that this happened. Y'all can stop acting like he claimed this was the scandal of the century.
@leo13 it means that the console is using an wired internet connection
@dutchguy thank you.
FYI for Canadian gamers, Amazon Canada has the Poke Ball Plus up for pre-order.
@leo13 it means it’s hard wired into the network. They have the usb to Ethernet adapter and it’s connected to the network this way instead of WiFi.
