While Nintendo’s amiibo line has resulted in a mixture of happiness and frustration for fans, it’s clearly a goldmine for Kyoto-based company right now. For these reasons it comes as somewhat surprising news the upcoming 3DS title, The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, will not include amiibo support.
In a recent interview with IGN, the game’s director – Hiromasa Shikata – revealed the latest portable 3DS Zelda entry “isn’t a natural fit” for amiibo support.
I think [that's] because we're focused on giving players the ability to choose different outfits to impact their experience within the game. We didn't think amiibo added anything other than what games with it are already doing.
"There's no reason to shoehorn it in," Shikata concluded.
Since Nintendo released its amiibo line last year, the toys-to-life have shipped 10.5 million units worldwide. It’s now become pretty-much expected that every single latest release on either Wii U or 3DS will feature some kind of amiibo functionality.
These latest comments from Shikata, however, may be signs Nintendo will pace themselves with in-game amiibo content if they can’t think of anything more than additional character outfits.

The game about fashion and clothes is not fit for the feature that usually unlocks clothes and styles for your games. Huh.

Wow almost hearkens back to ye olde days when game design came first, must be an extinct philosophy in this clime.
TBH the outfits in the game are already cool and it seems smart to limit their presence to a handful of instantly recognizable classes or roles.

I'm skipping this title anyway, but wouldn't they want to incentivise amiibo as much as they can? Good on them for not caving into the pressure and all that, but... c'mon, give us some bang for our buck, Nintendo.
Good, amiibo doesn't have to be in every game. It's better to not use them in this game than to shoehorn them in by locking content to them. Hopefully Nintendo can start to think of better ways to use amiibo in games.
It's still a little surprising, considering that there is a Toon Link amiibo, and yet another Toon Link Zelda title.

That's fine, I mean the possibilities are there but not every game needs amiibo support.
Yup, there would be nothing worse then Wmiibo locked costumes that are mandatory to progress the main and / or sub routes of the game.
Even with SPlatoon, a majority of single player content was locked away and many people cant pay it because Amiibos arent available.
If the Amiibo situation was different, id say go for it, make themed costume for all Amiibos, but not right now.
What Nintendo should do is make a poll. People check Amiibos theyve got, and say why they didnt get the other ones. Demand controll.

Mixed feelings
On the one hand I’m happy they aren’t locking content behind figures you can’t get.
On the other hand, the Zelda characters are among the few that you actually CAN get and I’d like to be able to do more with them. Link and Toon Link are among the most useful Amiibo and they still really don’t do that much.

I agree without on this post when I say in a game with costume content why wouldn't Amiibo costumes be supported? Seems lackluster for an excuse and lazy at best. The whole Amiibo situation just looks lazy in general.

Reads title ...Good! Amiibo has no business in a Zelda game imo.. Also, this title could be partially ruined if it had crossovers, like Yoshi or Captain Falcon costumes / suits.
At last a focus on what's best for the game and gameplay, rather than just supporting a gimmick! Unlocking content isn't really the best way to go with amiibo anyway as it's not actually "using" them to add anything that really requires the figures and their memory capacities - unlocking stuff can be done in other (cheaper) ways. Amiibo are collectible figures.

I'm glad the guy had the guts to stand up to Nintendo and not buckle to amino inclusion, but his reasoning sounds more like after the fact rationalizing - he just didn't want it, and now he needs to explain why.
And now the bad news - if this Zelda game doesn't have it, is the real reason b/c they are already using amiibo in Zelda U?
Best news in a while! I want to enjoy collecting all the costumes in TriForce Heroes without having to track down figurines, which I don't want. I already got really mad, when they announced that I had to get the Link amiibo, if I wanted to use the Spinner in Hyrule Warriors. That was a massive disappointment.
amiibo is an huge issue for everyone, who just wants the content, but not the figurines. I think amiibo are great in Smash, because they don't take anything away from the game, but add an interesting idea. However, their inclusion in other games usually just results in locked content... and either it's not really interesting or worth it for the amiibo fans or it angers the people, who want to buy a complete game. In any case someone will always be unhappy with amiibo and it's good that they keep it out of this Zelda title.

Naw, I get it, and I am with them. Also toon link is not the most desired in general. And i cant imagine them making a ton of money from it, cause im not to sure they will make a ton of this game, so... I would like it, but yeah...
I am torn on this. I only have one amiibo (Luigi - Super Smash Bros), and I think Nintendo's over reliance and hyping of them is disgusting. On the other hand, I am not really against options.

To be real amiibo support is nice, but every game doesn't need amiibos. Plus with some games having amiibos and other not having ammibos, we will appreciate amiibo functionality more. So overall the their decision for triforce, had neutral a affect on me, I still like the game.

@Morpheel Precisely what I was thinking. They most often unlock clothes and skins. Seems right up this game's alley, but I'm okay with this news. Doesn't bother me at all.
@rjejr Hopefully it's limited to like a potion or extra rupees, something easily gotten without amiibo.
