Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight

For those of you that aren't fans, the Etrian Odyssey series is an old school, dungeon-crawling RPG that tasks players with exploring vast mazes from a first person perspective. This series is refreshing for placing players in relatively open environments, such as oceans or jungles, as opposed to the typically claustrophobic dungeons and caves that other games of this ilk are prone to feature. Absolutely packed with monsters, a wide array of class options, quests, and all the trimmings of a good RPG, it’s no wonder that the Etrian series has garnered such a cult following over the years. It’s been about a year and a half since the last entry in this series came out West and, disregarding the spin-off Etrian Mystery Dungeon, fans have been waiting anxiously for a new game. We’re happy to announce that the wait is finally over.

The good people that are in charge of Atlus USA have heard the cries of fans and will be localising Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight for a summer release. Much akin to how its predecessor Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Girl was a remake of the first entry in the series; this will be an enhanced remake of the second title - Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard - with an additional story mode being added in.

In the new story mode, players will embark on a quest to unravel the secret of the mysterious Fafnir Knight and fight to protect Princess Arianna of Caledonia. This mode will feature the exclusive Fafnir Class, animated cutscenes, voiced dialogue, and a fixed set of adventurers. Classic mode will be returning as well, which will be the original game with upgraded graphics, new dungeon layouts, and improved design. The whole package is essentially featuring two Etrian games in one, so this is a pretty good deal at $49.99.

Unfortunately, there's no information on whether or not Europe will be getting this, but we'll keep you posted if this changes. Pre-order bonuses and DLC will be announced in the near future, so keep an eye on this.
