Proposed Boogerman Reboot Will Feature Earthworm Jim

Posted by Damien McFerran

16-bit icons stick together

We recently reported on a Kickstarter campaign to make a new version of Boogerman, a gross 16-bit platformer which originally appeared on the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis back in the '90s. The creators are seeking $375,000 to fund the project and have raised just over $24,000 so far, with 27 days remaining.

They'll no doubt be hoping that this latest piece of news will trigger a rush of pledges, as it has been confirmed that Earthworm Jim will be playable in the game, and that there's also going to be a two-player co-op mode.

The game — should it be funded — will be coming to the Wii U eShop, as well as Xbox One, PS4, PS Vita, PC, Mac and Linux.

Earthworm Jim was a massive draw during the 16-bit era, but his star has faded in recent years. Will his involvement convince you to lay down some cash? Let us know by posting a comment below.

Wasn't it said that Earthwork Jim will only be available to people who pledge a certain amount of money as a reward, and not a normal part of the game?

@ Tsuchinoko Yes, the co-op mode featuring EWJ will be DLC. as far as this campaign is concerned, you have to pledge $40+ to get it included.

I knew the rivalry of Earthworm Jim and Boogerman since the 90's ended at ClayFighter 63 1/3 would come together in this title FTW.

Just wondering, since this article doesn't mention that, and (as is often the case), the wording on the rewards tiers and what is an add on, what is an exclusive for backers, and what is part of a stretch goal seem to be not completely clear in some areas. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they can't edit the rewards tiers after the original posting, but can talk about added rewards in updates.

But it doesn't seem like Earthworm Jim will be DLC for everyone to play, just a reward for backers.

@ Tsuchinoko They have stated in their updates to backers that EWJ and the co-op mode will be available to everyone. They said if you're not interested in the tshirt/ soundtrack/ etc in the $40 tier, EWJ and co-op will be available as addons, cheaper than the $40 tier.

This would be amazing, if they were to pull it off. I am hoping they don't run into a license issue though...

Although I have absolutely no interest in this game. I do however appreciate Earthworm Jim making a reappearance

Not sure how they're going to pull that off. Jim's creator, Doug TenNapel himself can't even really use the guy unless whatever publisher that holds the rights lets him. But maybe they worked something out.

Earthworm Jim 2 is easily one of my favourite platformers of all time and it all sounds great so far, so i guess i have no other chance than to raise my pledge to 50$ for now.
I just hope this doesn't turn into another Shantae - Half Genie Hero where i end up pledging an awful lot just to get the best physical rewards. [/sub]Or maybe i do...[/sub] :o

I think they are going to have a tough time getting the money, boogerman is an obscure game. Now if Earthworm Jim was the game in question i would throw money at it , but they are making Armikrog.
