remakes are fine, as long as the original is from at least 2 generations ago. (ie. we don't need The Last Us Remastered less than a year after the original...). From the Cube, I'd like to see Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion.

@Larry433 thats not really the point at all. the point is what we have gotten for Smash Bros is not the kind of DLC that extends the life of a game. What we have gotten for MK8 is. If Nintendo is gonna start offering more DLC to pad its release schedule, DLC like what we have gotten for MK8 suits that purpose. DLC like what we have seen for Smash does not. Thats it.

@Larry433 the time frame stuff absolutely does apply to both games, never said it didn't. The difference is with MK8 they're bridging that gap with meaningful DLC that adds gameplay. In the case of smash, they've added nothing of substance. MK8 is DLC done properly. With Smash, I'd say flesh it out into a meaningful pack with either a new mode or new stages, or don't bother. Yes, some people buy costumes that do nothing, and that's fine, but it does nothing to extend this game into a "platform within a platform" or an evergreen release as described in this article.
Realistically, so far, Smash does not deserve to even be mentioned with this topic. The article should be about MK8 and Hyrule Warriors. Those have been the only two games with an evergreen release approach taken.

The MK8 DLC has been great. I'd certainly rather see a decent DLC pack every 6 months than yearly releases, and 1 game per generation can be a long wait, so this is a great solution. MK8 is DLC done right.
The Smash Bros DLC has been pointless nickel and dime. either beef it up to make it worthwhile, or don't bother. Smash Bros is the type of DLC we don't need.

Probably so they claim royalties on 3rd party accessories. You can get NES controller pattern skins for all most anything. I had one on my last cell phone, and I have one on my Wii U gamepad. Be sweet if they released a wireless version for WiiU though, even if it was only compatible with NES VC titles...

The Mario Kart 8 DLC is DLC done right. Certainly the best value DLC in any Nintendo game, and probably the best value DLC in the industry. If they wanna put out more packs like the 2 we've seen so far, I'll keep buying 'em. And if they could give us a pack or 2 for MK7, I'd be all over that as well. (or maybe give us something similar to the challenges from MK DS... i'd pay $10 for that as an add on mode...)

The Smash Bros DLC, i'm not so keen on. I have no problems with Mewtoo as Club Nintendo bonus, but i wouldn't buy him. Lucas, i'd like to have him, but i won't pay what they're asking for a single character (yes I realize his pricing is in line with other games on other systems, still not paying it.) The costumes are silly, and i really hope they don't sell well. That kind of nickle and dime DLC has always bugged me. If they did a pack similar the MK packs with, say, 2 new characters, and some new stages, or 1 new character, some of the costumes, and some new stages, I'd pay $8- $10 for that...

I suppose, generally, I'd just much rather pay more for a package of meaningful DLC than the cheap cosmetic nickel and dime crap. The Luigi DLC for NSMBU was great too. Thats what I like, expansion packs, not a dumb hat for my character.

People are reading FAR too much into this. Nintendo announced NOTHING. They confirmed they intend to stay in the dedicated console business. That's it. If you think Sony and MS don't have a team of hardware engineers working on ideas that may or may not make it into the PS5 and XB2, you're lost. Nintendo has been working on its next console since the day the U launched. Same as the others. This was not an announcement of any type, it was just to let share holders know they still intend to make hardware. You don't even know if NX is a handheld, home console, or something entirely different. Wii U will live out its 5 to 6 years, just like every other Nintendo hardware (excluding the VB, RIP)

Voice chat is going to be the downfall of humanity. throw on an Xbox live headset for 2 minutes and then try to argue that any decent human cares about voice chat. can't be done. Nintendo made the right call. free up the bandwidth for something useful.

wasn't a fan of this game on the PS systems, don't really see what all the fuss is about. it's a top down dungeon crawler with pixelated poop. It's not particularly offensive or gross, and really doesn't do anything special.

Getting Mewtwo just because he'll be free through club Nintendo, probably pass on Lucas if the pricing is the same Mewtwo. Not interested in costumes. For me, the most interesting part of this is the way the cross-buy downloads are being handled. Its disappointing that they still can't or won't link these purchases through the NNID. Download code just seems so archaic at this point. They gotta get their online store/ account system brought into this century...

@Moose_4 The folks complaining about about borders are talking about the EU versions.... the 50hz PAL versions have borders on the top and botttom, its cut off a bit from the 60hz NA versions. they're not talking about stretching the 4:3 NA version to fit a 16:9 tv....

Edit: nevermind, just realized you're European... in that case, the version you originally played was the one that was distorted. they're asking for the game in it's "original" aspect ratio, not the squashed versions europe got.

Picking up 3D Outrun. Still on the fence about Code Name STEAM, but if I do buy it, I'll pick up a physical copy. Was hoping we'd get that Sega 3D Classics sale that EU got this week... Ah well.

Needs some tweaking... Mario 'pops' too much, almost looks like he's in front of the surface he's standing on. Games like this would benefit more from adding depth to the background than 'pop' to the foreground. As a proof of concept, this definetly shows that the game could look great in 3D, but this video doesn't...

I'd love to see Sonic get the 'New Super Mario Bros.' treatment. 3D sonics, for the most part, have not been good. Go back to the roots and give us a classic 2d side scroller with a silky smooth frame rate... I'd buy that.

daveh30 commented on Study Finds That US Consumers Are Buying Wii U...:

I buy Nintendo consoles first and foremost because I'm a fan of Nintendo's characters/ IPs. The fact that the majority of those games are also kid friendly and ones that I can play together with my 5 year old son is a great bonus. PS3 / PS4 have been my secondary console to the Wii / WiiU, and on those I mostly play horror themed games that often aren't released on Nintendo's consoles. Honestly, if I had to choose just one, even if I didn't have kids, I'd go with Nintendo. Nintendo's 1st party IPs are the reason I started playing video games as a kid, and the reason I still play today.

@Shiner1776 my impression of what Baker said was that it sounds like there's something he's not allowed to say yet, and he made a silly statement just trying to say something...
Like I said previously, I'd bet money the New 3DS launches alongside Xenoblade with a limited edition bundle. Baker knows that, he's just not allowed to say. Tripped up and sounded foolish trying to cover his butt...

@Rocky2418 "All other regions still released the New standard, so that alone can't be the reason for them excluding it here."

Sure it could. You're assuming this was some sorta 'Nintendo HQ' decision handed down to NoA. Everything I've seen sounds like this was an NoA decision... They could have looked at the data for their region and made a decision that just happened to be a different decision than was made in other regions...

If you want my honest opinion, I'd bet money that the New 3ds releases along side Xenoblade, with a limited edition bundle, similar to the New XL and Major's Mask. I think you're all getting your panties in a knot over nothing...

Nintendo doesn't owe us anything. They've been in cost cutting mode for a while now, and it's clearly a business decision. We voted with our wallets when the XL soundly outsold the original. Reading through these comments, its pretty ridiculous... it seems we have a vocal minority, who seem to think they're the mass majority, upset over a percieved personal slight from Nintendo. have a look back at #124... tell me thats not a load of self righteous bull. apparently the 'dedicated' refuse to play the XL... the XL is only to 'entice the unrestrained'.... seriously, some of these guys need to get over themselves...

@Yoshis95 I own one as well. Its a sweet piece of hardware, has some good games, but they're too few and far between. mine is basically a Minecraft machine at this point. i much prefer my XL. the question remains though... no complaints about Vita portability, but no one seems capable of carrying an XL.... same size and all....

Why is it that I've never heard anyone complain about the portability of their Vita, but the almost identically sized XL (when closed) is apparently a non-transportable anchor? (besides the fact that no one owns a Vita, lol)

@Yoshis95 and thats fine, like what ya like... but all this "how the crap is that gonna fit in your pocket?" nonsense is just obnoxious. its 12mm wider, theres no need to be so melodramatic over it. If you can't carry an XL, you've got bigger problems than the small difference in size.

@Zelda64L " And what about little kids who want a 3DS for their birthday? The XL simply doesn't fit in their hands!"
Thats one of the dumbest things i've ever read. my 5 year old has been playing mario on my XL since he was 3. never a complaint. you know what was a brick of a system? The GameBoy. And we dragged that thing around everywhere, and squinted at its tiny monochrome screen, and hefted it's bulk, and it made us stronger. it's time to stop coddling the children.

@Shiek It goes both ways.... everytime I post that i'm enjoying my New 3DS XL somewhere, theres one of the XL haters right there goin' on about thats impossible, because they refuse to hook a trailer to their car to haul that Brick around. "its supposed to be portable!"

if the XL haters would stop being so melodramatic over an extra 12mm of width, others wouldn't waste time defending it...
