N64 is probably the closest to a regret for me. The system had some killer games and was great for parties... but games were very expensive and the overall library incredibly small. Liked the console, but hard to consider it a success. I'm a little bit worried that Wii U will end up in the same situation when I look back in a few years. At least Wii U wasn't as expensive overall though, and gives me full backwards compatibility with Wii games.
Thought about buying a Vita at one point and am glad now that I didn't.
Biggest surprise (in a good way) for me was PSP. Bought a PSP Go very late in the lifecycle for a greatly reduced price, and have since loaded it up with a bunch of marked-down PSP games and PSOne Classics. Not sure I would've been happy buying at launch, but that little handheld has given me tons of enjoyment and currently holds a lot of games I haven't yet had time to explore.
there's probably less than 20 Wii games that I'd say are "must haves".

That was the type of games released on it never appealing to me, only felt I got something out of MGS2 (and one via the emulation, but didn't replay them) on it, in the end it wound up just being a DVD player for me.
Star Wars Battlefront?
Final Fantasy X?
Burnout anything
Dragon Quest?
Resident Evil?
Ratchet and Clank?
Spyro?
Sly Cooper?
ICO?
Need for Speed?
Jak?
There are so many games, how can you not like any of them?
I've no doubt those are great games, but nothing appeals to me to play them (the ones I am familiar with never grabbed me and made me think I must play that) bar Res Evil which I could play on other consoles at the time (namely Saturn and the Cube), I guess that's the Nintendo fan in me I was sucked in before the PS2 existed. Different tastes for different people I guess.
Probably PSP, not to say it was a bad system but I did get the bulky 1000 model, only to end up getting a Vita a year and a bit later. I also didn't really get into any of the games I got for it apart from Burnout Legends, and now a good portion of PSP games are now on the PSN store for Vita, I have little reason to ever play it again.

The XBOX 360. I wanted to get it for Kinect (which was awful) and Halo: Reach (which was mediocre). I haven't even turned on the system for like a year and a half now.
My only regret in the end was the Wii. I bought into the new concept the system promised. Nintendo failed at that miserably eventually needing motion plus to correct it. Unfortunately the arrogance of the third parties on the whole acted like a pack of spoiled children in interviews and spinning stories and little to nothing came out of real quality for the system from them. Often youd have a developer call a game a test, it would sell well, but theyd still not make more releases. Or youd often get watered down rail shooters of popular franchises again promsing more, but ultimately using it as a test ground for their B level coding teams to learn from. Theyd use the DS and Wii profits to finances Sony and MS games. Ultimately I was so disgusted with the system the last years of its life I used it maybe less hours than you could count on a hand, then it sat when the WiiU hit as a netflix box and even that sucked so I sold it. Now the wiiU does stuff right and theyre still under the bus but at least I dont regret that one, at least not yet.

no regrets. not because i would like all systems but because i know what i want. glad i never bought something from sony again after the first playstation. especially the ps3 has no (exclusive) games for me except mgs4 and the controller sucks so bad compared to wii or 360.
i dont even regret getting the dsi (my first DS) which i bought near the end of the cycle. 2 years before the 3ds was announced. still had some cool games for it.
i think in the future i will stick to nintendo handhelds as my only gaming plattform.
why? no need for a big tv. nintendo games. comfortbale playing on my couch. cheaper than a console. nintendo is the king of handhelds
maybe i will get some old consoles though...
@tanookisuit i dont get why people say nintendo failed at the concept of the wii. the motion controlls always worked for me. motion+ didnt really add anything big for me. sword fighting was already awesome in the first red steel. it worked. shooting was awesome too. racing was great. i dont get the dislike
@SuperSNESLiam so kinect and halo reach are the only things you have tried with your xbox360??? are there really no other games for the system that interest you? the 360 has such a big library of games. i consider getting one someday to play all the cool games i missed while only having a wii.
None. This is why I research what Good games there are before I buy a system. The closest I've gotten to this is the PS3, if only because I bought it on the basis that it had good RPGs...and it didn't. Ni no Kuni is pretty much the only one really worth playing, especially now that Disgaea 4 is on the Vita with tons of bonus content. Thankfully there are plenty of other games I could get for the PS3 to make up for it, especially once I was able to get good multiplats since my 360 isn't worth playing anymore. But still, every game I initially thought would be worth it (except Ni no Kuni and 3D Dot Game Heroes) turned out to be bad. Wow...I have not had that happen with any other system. (Then again, when it came to the PS3, most of those recommendations were from people whose tastes I know not to trust now, so...)
None so far though the Vita could be the first addition (who knows) not because it is a bad system (it's actually a really good one) but because certain decisions made by Sony that is tarnishing my experience with the device most recently the announcement that EU will be the only region not getting a physical release of Freedom Wars.

Amended for accuracy. Meanwhile you forgot Rune Factory Frontier and Red Steel 2.
Of course, I tend to think "Must-Have" means it's a game people have to have - a game no one should have to live without. Most of your list were just nice to haves - Games that were good, but for one reason or another do not provide an essential experience (mostly because they've been done better before or are simply marginal improvements over similar games available on similar platforms).
360, but more because PS3 ended up with better exclusives (read: games after 2007 that weren't Kinect, Halo or Gears) rather than its library in general and I'm sad that I still don't own PS1/2 games. But to be fair, it is the only reason I have a working version of Crimson Skies, Skyrim and the Half Life 2 games so that's cool!
Suicune already fairly accurately disproved anyone who said Wii. If it wasn't for essentially everyone in gaming making dumb mistakes when it came to it, it would be the best console of all time.
I didn't like my PSP as much as I thought I would. Although, I spent a good chunk of my early teens playing SOCOM online. Socom Arena was my favorite website ever, that and Gamebattles when it was good. I really enjoyed my PS Vita though, damn thing was beautiful.
I also regret ever buying an original Xbox. Can't remember any titles that I really enjoyed besides the first Fable and Halo. Even then, those games wouldn't make my top 20 list.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)

I see someone didn't get Crimson Skies, Ninja Gaiden, and Mechassault 1 & 2. u_u
I regret buying a PS3 at launch. $600 and the damn thing was a barbecue. Should have waited for the slim model.
I regret buying a DS so late into its lifespan. Bought a 3DS a couple months later and the DS became useless.
I regret buying a Wii so late into its lifespan too. Same reason. Bought a Wii U about 6 months later.
No regrets for PS1, PS2, PSP, Vita, Gamecube, Wii U, or 3DS.
Well, maybe a little regret for not waiting for the Wind Waker bundle for Wii U.
Wii — I was all hyped up about it due to the prospect of being able to play every NES, SNES and N64 on it at least that's how Nintendo made it out to be. I understand that most of it is not there fault due to licensing issues and what not but that was the main reason I bought the Wii. Instead what I got was alot of VC games that I already owned either in the original formats or on collections (Like the Mega Man AC on Gamecube for example). Really was disappointed how they VC came out.
The Wii U was another one that I I regret buying but I regret buying it at launch, I wish I waited now to get one when MK8 came out. The only times I played it before that was for Earthbound and Ducktales Remastered.
