Topic: Systems you regret buying

I can't say there's ever been a console I regret buying. Gamecube would be the closest, but when I look at the library of games I had for that system I can't say I regret it. As a huge survival/horror fan at that point in my life, REmake, Eternal Darkness and RE Zero alone were worth it. Then I had Metroid Prime 1, Smash Bros. Melee, MGS Twin Snakes and RE 4 plus some of the top third party multiplats I bought for GC before I got the PS2 and original Xbox and started buying most third party games for those systems.

The only regret I might have is the DSi and the 3DS (before the major price drop). The DSi was really great and I loved it, but everything that made it great is gone: Flipnote Studio / Hatena. As for the 3DS, I became and Ambassador an got free games, but I really should have waited for the XL. A bigger screen and playing area would be much better for me now.

360, if I had to choose. It provided plenty of fun, playing shooters and stuff with my friends online was fun. But I saw the PS3 getting exclusives like Uncharted, TLOU, Ni no Kuni, the Kingdom Hearts remixes, and Persona 5. Not to mention exclusive Tales games, too. Mistake was pretty clear right around then, and my 360's been sitting in dust for about a year.

On the plus side, I think the 360 controller is arguably the best controller of all time, crappy D-Pad aside.

The GBA, since I never really found the time to play it before the GBA SP came out.

Also, the Wii U, since I paid $350 for the Nintendo Land bundle with the expectation that it would be a while before any price drops, only to quickly see the Zombi U bundle deal show up with a sale, then the Zelda bundle for $300, and then I saw the Mario & Luigi bundle go on sale for $250 several times. There were so many delays with the games that it wasn't like there was any benefit to being an early adopter, and I was never really that hyped to own the system in the first place, but I went along for the ride hoping it would somehow turn out to be worthwhile. If I would have known the price would drop on the system so fast before any real games had even come out, I would have waited.

I'm happy to say I've never owned a system I regretted, though my list is shorter than most:

  • Atari 2600
  • NES
  • Sega Master System
  • Gameboy
  • SNES
  • N64
  • Playstation
  • Gamecube
  • Wii U

Sega Genesis (I was a child at the time, so it wasn't exactly my choice, and the system does have some good titles, but compared to the sheer number of incredible games on the SNES... I missed out on so much)

Original model Xbox 360 (strong early support gave way to lousy exclusives, an overabundance of dudebro-type games, and you had to buy an expensive wireless router to get it online anywhere where plugging in a wire was impractical)

Don't really regret a system purchase to be honest, because I've had good fun with all consoles. Agree with @Ralizah that the wireless adaptor for the Xbox 360 was really expensive and is the only thing I really regret about buying gaming hardware.

PS3, I regretted it once i realised no Jrpgs were coming especially sequels to PS2 games i loved (First 3 years or so). I was so upset that my Xbox360 had more Japanese games than PS3. It took about 4 years before i started to love PS3. Now its amazing as there are loads of Japanese games i can import if they are not localised. II bought my PS4 expecting the same thing to happen so now i have such low expectations it can only go up from now on .

PS2, but only because I had a huge backlog of games before I even bought it (I bought it for Okami btw), and I simply didn't have time to play the games it had to offer, so I sold it again pretty quickly. I was also spoiled by Nintendo quality games, and hated (still do) the DualShock controller. I've now got a PS3 and I'm quite happy with it, although I still pick Nintendo consoles over the rivals any day. And I still dislike the controller.

PS Vita. I brought it back in a hour.

First of all, I didn't get games for it, because I didn't know if they were to my liking. But I thought I could just download some demo's.
I got the system, and did Welcome Park, then I tried the PS Store.

I tried downloading the Uncharted demo, until it said you needed to buy a memory card. I went to see if I could do anything else on this, so I tried the browser, and went to youtube. You also need a memory card for that. You need a memory card for EVERYTHING. Except one thing. WELCOME PARK. I hate that piece of crap. Really, it gets frustrating when the only thing you can do is WELCOME PARK. Checked the prices for a memory card...
4 GB is the lowest you can get, and it costed around a 30 euro back when I got it. Then I brought it back. The end. Then when I see that the thing is cheaper, I realize it has no games.

Well, I made the mistake of purchasing the N-Gage years ago. But was able to trade for a Nintendo-DS and was very happy with it for a long time until it brake in the hands of a stupid kid... and them another kid after I glued the thing together. Now is just gathering dust, all broken down...

I don't regret any systems but it is rather frustrating when you buy a 'doomed' console and have to spend 5 years supporting it in the face of harsh criticism while watching people buying lesser systems in their droves!

I think some of its best games were released near the end of its lifespan. 2012 wasn't all that exciting, but the Wii U was coming. And besides, disliking the system for having a not so great last year?

I don't completely regret any console I've owned. PSP was basically useless to me, which I got in a trade, but I just sold it and it didn't really bother me. PS3 was the only HD system I had for a while, but I got an Xbox 360 and games primarily on that. The only reason why I still had the PS3, was because of bluray. My dad brought me home a Sega Genesis with the Sega CD, but I didn't really have much use for it. I had a Dreamcast, but people always charge too much for all the good games on eBay, so I got rid of it.

In otherwords, either I can't blame the console for why I didn't like it, or I was looking for something specific, and it just didn't fit the bill. I thought PSP playing movies and stuff was cool, but between UMDs and expensive(at the time) memory stick duo cards, it wasn't really worth it, IMO.

Well, if that's the only year you had it, and the next system was backwards compatible...

None, although the Wii U comes dangerously close. Even then, there's enough stuff on it for me to not regret getting it.

This meme needs to die. The Vita has a TON of great games on it. Even if you're only considering physical retail releases. If you count in digital games, however, the library expands even more.

The consoles closest to "having no games" on them are the PS4 and Xbone, primarily because they're still quite new.
