Do note that below is not my favourite game on the platform, it's the games that made me snap and bought the console
PSP- SD Gundam G generation World and Macross Ace Frontier
PSX - Rockman X 4 and SD Gundam G generation F and Harvest Moon Back to Nature
PS2 - Naruto Ultimate Ninja
PS3 - Gundam Extreme Vs Full Boost
SNES - Super Mario World and Top Gear
Gameboy - Pokemon and Super Mario Land
Gameboy Color - Pokemon and Harvest Moon 2
Gameboy Advance - Megaman ZX and Yoshi Island
DS - Super Mario Bros and Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
3DS - Project x Zone and Rune Factory
Wii U - Nintendo Land and Super Mario Bro U
For the Wii U it's not just the games though, it's a combination of A LOT of things. It has been 20 years since the last time I played a Mario game on a TV screen + Nintendo finally going back to proper controls + VC + Gamepad (I was drooling on the gamepad at Bestbuy when I saw it for the first time) + a local shop is having a sale and selling the Wii U for $190 (May 2013, which makes it extremely worth it).....so yeah, I snapped hard.
I'm too lazy to name all my consoles so:
Xbox 360 - Red Dead Redemption
Wii U - Bayonetta 2
3DS - Animal Crossing (Love it) and Paper Mario (major let down)
The cat's the only cat who knows where it's at.
NNID: Muffin-Gun
Smash Bros melee, Pokemon Red, Smash Bros. Brawl, Kid Icarus Uprising, Nintendogs and Warioware touched, and Smash Bros. for Wii U. GBA didn't sell me on any particular game, but the vast number of good games was enough for me.

Most recently, it was Lego City that actually made me want to buy the Wii U the most. I was excited for all of the games promised at that E3, and even though not all of them came to the Wii U, Lego City was the game that really made me want to purchase.
For the 3DS, it wasn't a game, per se, but the awesome trailer for the system with all of the Nintendo characters and Street Fighter stuff coming out of the system.
Playing Wii Sports and Smash Bros. sold me on the Wii... And I finally got what could be done with the DS when I played a Pac Man game where you had to draw Pac Man different sizes to eat the ghosts.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
Mario Kart sold me on the 3DS and Wii U. Those two games and knowing that Pokemon (3DS), Xenoblade Chronicles X (Wii U, known simply as X at the time), Bayonetta 2 (Wii U, before the pack-in of the first one was announced), and Super Mario 3D World (Wii U) were all either coming or out when I got my system.
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire for the GBA. It was all I played at the time, aside from Kingdom Hearts on the PS2.
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl for the DS. It was still all I played at the time, aside from Kingdom Hearts on the PS2.
Technically having the PlayStation 2 prompted me to get Kingdom Hearts, but I count it anyways because, at the time, it was the only series I wanted on the PlayStation 2.
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep for the PSP.
Oh yeah, Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and No More Heroes prompted me to get a Wii... last November. Then I got my Wii U in February in preparation for MK8. I only wish I got a bundle that wasn't the WWHD bundle, but the LoZ design on the controller makes it worthwhile. XD
none. i always buy consoles depending on the console itself and how much potential for great games it has. although animal crossing new leaf was one big reason i got the 3DS at launch.
New Super Mario Bros. U was the game that convinced me I needed a Wii U.
No, I'm not kidding. XD
At least it wasn't Just Dance
Arriving late to the Wii and DS convinced me to adopt the Wii U and 3DS as soon as possible. ZombiU and LEGO City Undercover really nailed the hammer home for day one for the Wii U. 3DS was day one too, however I will admit it didn't really have a decent software lineup at launch, but hey free GBA and NES games and a free OoT soundtrack and actual Ocarina for buying OoT a few months later.

I guess the only time I can remember that a SPECIFIC game sold me on a new system was with the 3DS. The game was Link Between Worlds, and it was definitely worth it for me.
I can also say that some of the PS3 exclusives pushed me to getting that console when choosing between the 360 and the PS3, even though The Last of Us turned out to be a massive disappointment for me personally. I had also wanted to play Murdered Soul Suspect when that was released. I still haven't played it due to the awful reviews.
The game that made me get a gaming PC was, believe it or not, Fez. For some inexplicable reason, that game only runs on supercomputers. If you're rocking an Intel video card, you are out of luck for that game, despite how the graphics look. I bought the game hoping to enjoy it, and ended up waiting several months just to actually play it because it wouldn't work with my laptop. Fez was actually quite good, despite what the vocal gaming majority says about its creator.
3DS - Super Mario 3D Land, which is really funny because that's one of my least played retail titles.
Funny, because I usually only play through games long enough to complete the main campaigns, and am by no means a completionist of any sort, but I 100%ed that game. Got five shimmering stars on my file.
Ended up getting almost 50 hours of playtime out of it. And I plan to do the same to 3D World.
No Man's Sky is making me seriously consider getting a PS4. That game looks incredible, and just my kind of game. Of course there's The Pinball Arcade and Battlefront 3 as well, but No Man's Sky man, I really want to play it! And now I'm torn on if I should get a PS4 or a Wii U. (Right now my bro owns the Wii U, but when he leaves so does the U, so I'm gonna have to buy one eventually. [I've said that a lot, haven't I?])
