I just watched the Star Wars 3D trailer, now I don't know about anyone else but I didn't notice hardly any 3D in that trailer and this is where my problem lies with the 3D on the 3DS. I love my 3DS before anyone starts.
Now I don't know if it's just after nearly a year playing it and my eyes have become used to the 3D effect and I don't notice as much or what, but it's a shame that more stuff doesn't pop out of the screen, that's the biggest selling point for me, I would love it if more games did that.

I disagree. The first game I tried had popouts, with the Nintenodog licking you, and then there are menus that pop out, like the pencil, and I feel ton of games have pop outs.

Not only does the 3DS come with an SD card, but it also happens to come pre-installed with one, additional dimension.

In my opinion the best thing about the 3D on the 3DS is that in some games it actually helps judge perspective a lot better than when playing in 2D.
Also, quite often the games look a lot nicer in 3D.
But as far as the "wow, that's really 3D" factor goes, I've never really found it that overly impressive.
But hey, when buying the 3DS the 3D was the least important factor to me, and I've actually been pleasantly surprised by how much it can help in some instance and by how good some games look with it turned on.

I enjoy how it sinks in rather than pop out more. That said, the 3D just looks really flat in many eShop videos and images.

Some things do appear to pop out, but not by very much and very few things do. What wowed me most was the confetti from the Glee trailer on Nintendo Video. That was so pretty. ^^

I also could barely notice the 3D effect in the Star Wars trailer, but I think it is down to the trailer a lot more than the 3DS screen.

I've played around a bit with making my own 3D images for the 3DS and when I add anything that pops out, even slightly, it hurts my eyes to look at it, so I'd guess that's probably why devs don't use that so much.

The Star Wars trailer wasn't very 3D to be honest, it mainly looked flat. And pop out on the 3DS strains your eyes, especially if it's quite far out of the screen.

I don't think it's the 3DS' fault, but more down to the fact that some devs aren't using the 3D properly.

In movies the level stereoscopic 3D is a choice made by the filmmaker, this is completely isolated from the 3DS.
Old movies like Jaws sported exaggerated 3D effects, but recent 3D films use a much more suitable approach with some pop-out here and there, but mostly just for there for depth.

Nothing on Nintendo Video has EVER been good 3D, whoever is in charge of 3D-ing the videos doesn't do much. (Most) games are a different matter. Rarely does anything "pop out" either. That just makes it look silly as if the games is saying "look at what I can do, this is cool!" Real 3D pull you in. Ocarina of Time used it best, so that it you became accustomed to it, until you turn it off and think how flat everything looks. 3D should enhance the visuals in a similar fashion to HD, not pop-out like a gimmick.

That being said the 3D on the Star Wars trailer did very much suck, I guess they knew if it was good I'd skip out on the movie.

Nope, not coincided at all.

I liked the 3D in Kirby episode. It has very nice effects when that monster scans Kirby. I liked it. Haven't seen Star Wars video yet.

It's its, not it's.

The problem lies with the Star Wars trailer, I had a chance in seeing a Star Wars 3D trailer at the cinema and the 3D is very hit and miss. The Good 3D parts in trailer actually do look good on the 3DS trailer but unfortunately there is only a few.

As far as 3DS games with 3D I think once you have seen Zen Pinball in 3D and I dont mean an eShop trailer, the actual game and then you can see how good 3D can be. the 3DS tends to have a depth going into the screen rather than things flying out at you although there have been times it has done that. Some NintendoVideo videos have looked quite good in 3D, the 3D machine is a good example.

I agree the 3d is so subtle you don't hardly ever notice it, then when you switch it off you release how much worse it looks (apart from that DREADFUL aliasing!!!!!)

The lack of 3D in the Star Wars trailor really is due to the trailor itself... it's way too subtle. I took a photo using the camera tool yesterday to put onto Swapnote and the picture STILL looks like it's going to take my eye out! Heh!

My main problem with the 3D is in games where you're in a lot of pressure like MK7... I seriously can't play the game with the 3D on as I'll be racing around a tight corner and SUDDENLY THE SCREEN BLURS!! And I drop off the edge. Grrr!

It seemed like that for the Green Lantern trailer, I dunno...when I play one of my 3DS games or watch a game trailer, the 3D is fine.

I think the problem with movie recording is that as they are scaled down to the 3DS screen, the 3D depth effectively gets scaled down too. It isn't possible to adjust the depth on movie footage, it either has to be recorded or rendered with the 3DS screen in mind if it is to look better.

Pilot wings resort really pops out, 3d land is pretty good, and MK7 is so good sometimes if something happens i blink thinking its going to hit me! i really like the 3d, some people dont, it never hurt my eyes, and if any of you are wondering why old games cant be played in 3d its because it wasnt made that way unless its a 3d classic. also for some reason some of you think you can turn the 3d slider up on ds games and it will look better. not so! i have no idea how people came up with these weird ideas, but if it wasnt made that way it obviously cant be done. for example nintendo dint even know they would make a 3ds when they made NSMB. So A. they couldnt have programed for it and B. if they did they wanted to make it for the DS, so it could be played on the DS without the DS wondering what the heck its a content overload! and then your D dies because the 3DS cartridge is too complicated for it. So hopefully that answers some of your questions.

As mentioned before, the effectiveness of stereoscopic 3D of videos and games is not reliant on the 3DS system itself, but rather the dev or conversion company (for older movies not shot in 3D). Stereoscopic 3D isn't about the cheap, gimmicky "pop out" that people tend to associate 3D-of-old with; it's about perceiving volume and depth (the roundness of Mario or looking down at Wuhu Town from a glider).

The 3D is beautiful for me. It works best on the higher brightness settings. I like how it "Sinks In." It gives a feeling of depth. Besides, I prefer that to the outrageous pop out 3D at the movie theatre.
