I got a 3DS XL back last February and its been a dreamboat. The picture is exceptionally nice, 3D works great. I try to play regular 3DS at demo kiosks and its just annoys me.

Only real downside is awkwardly placed shoulder buttons (running around with Pegasus Boots in Zelda: A Link Between Worlds got a tad obnoxious), but its not a deal breaker.

Love my 3DSXl, will never go back to using a plain vanilla 3DS. The only drawback (hardly noticeable) is that games are a bit stretched to fill the bigger screen. Not a deal breaker by any chance, but in some games (very few, indeed) is noticeable.

I haven't noticed any screen stretch, but I don't have the original to compare. The scales always look right to me.

I noticed my hands cramped up on occasion with the 3DS,......the XL is more comfortable.

Only downside is the Xl has the worse mic position possible, i literally can't beat phantom hourglass because you can't blow and look at the screen at the same time.

Cing is proof that the good die young.

I'm so used to using the 6th brightness(which you get with the original 3DS's charger cable) that i can no longer be bothered to play on the dimmer XL, the 6th brightness brings 3DS games to life. Plus, the 3DS has a crisper/sharper picture. XL in the end, looks dim, and the picture looks slightly blown up, softer and more jagged. Not my cup of toitle' tea, which is why i sold it months ago. :P

XL is better all around.

There's no reason to get a normal 3DS unless you aim towards being able to have it in your pocket.

Looking forward to: ZeldaU & Hyrule Warriors

EH! wrong!
original 3DS has a crisper/sharper picture, you can unlock the 6th brightness(using the charger) which trumps the XL's dim peak brightness, also i find that the stereoscopic 3D effect is more pronounced and crisp on the original, and it's design overall screams next gen. the XL is just more functional(better stylus placement, no thrills stylus), to the point, it's more comfy, Virtual console games in 1:1 have a larger screen and look fantastic, and the larger screens make for a more immersive grand experience overall.

Both have their pro's and cons, but saying the XL does everything better is just false.

I love my original 3DS and wasn't a big fan of the XL, but I eventually came around and picked one up when they launched and it really does feel like a big upgrade.
Original 3DS is still nice, but XL is just that little bit nicer.

I own both and that's my opinion on the matter.

I have never noticed any difference in screen quality from going between the two.

XL is better unless fitting the thing in your pocket is important for you, the original 3DS is also supposed to have better sound off the speakers but if you use headphones it does not matter

I'm happy with the original 3DS that I bought but having used the XL a few times, the bigger screen definitely makes that one the way to go for those just getting on the 3DS bandwagon now.

In my opinion, get the original. I really have only one issue for the XL and that's the audio. the 3DS has that loud audio. Yes its a minor thing.but that's the whole reason why I would use the original and also the fact that I feel that I got so used to the original and I want to get back to it. Unfortunately my 3DS is from Asia and even though it can run US games only, it can only be fixed from Asia so I got to sell it since the service isn't as good as it is in US and ended up getting the 3DS XL which is the pure US.

The XL definitely seems to last quite a bit longer.
With my original 3DS I always had to make sure to keep it fully charged and carry around a portable charger just in case, so I didn't run out of battery while I was out and about.
With the XL however, my battery seems to last pretty easily at max brightness on any typical day.

This is definitely one thing the original has going for it.
When playing in a group of players and one person has an original 3DS and everyone else has an XL, the sound of the original completely overwhelms the rest.
However, the XL is easily loud enough when you're just using it at home, and a good pair of headphones/earphones should be sufficient when you're out and about, so it's not something I'd be overly concerned about.

The original model 3DS desperately needs screen protectors if you don't want the top screen to get big scratches on it really easily, and if you play it a lot on a frequent basis, chances are one or both of your shoulder buttons will eventually stop functioning well (happened to mine as well as many other people I know).
So far yet to meet someone who's had the shoulder buttons fail on them with the XL.

I own both and I personally prefer the XL. I find it more comfortable to hold and I enjoy the larger screens. My only complaint is the weak audio. Why don't you try both? Some stores such as GameStop have both models on display.
