Taiwan, China, and South the west, they are the enigmas of the gaming world..........lots of duds.....but lots of truly great games as well that we have no clue about.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted was excellent.

I don't blame third parties though, most of them at least tried (albeit some, not all, with delays or old ports) but once the sales data came in, they ran for the winds.

Oddly enough, the buyout from the Chinese company may have been a good thing, since it seems like Neo Geo IP's have more cache in China, south-east Asia, and Latin America (especially Fatal Fury and KOF).

The new KOF still looks off, but they do have the talent of some of the people behind Street Fighter 4, so I'll continue to wait and see.

Anyways, on the whole, awesome news, for a short time, say 1993-2000, SNK was one of the better developers in the world.

Thank god, enough of this "ohh! you want a new F-Zero?, well....I couldn't think of a good enough gimmick to cripple the series during the last 15 years instead know, just doing a logical sequel".

Have some hope if he could tell the Wii U was in troubled waters from the start by trying to follow the same path as the Wii.

As for Iwata, kinda verifies that it was a sudden passing away, yes, he had health problems, but he probably didn't see the fragility in the situation, nor anyone else.

I have a friend who has Apple TV, but yes, perhaps it's more popular in North America. That being said, it's not super common over here either.......lots of hype during the intial launch, but afterwards it somewhat fell off the publics radar.

LOL at the confrence though, Apple managed to make Microsoft and Nintendo look like innovators and themselves as a company running on borrowed time.

sub12 commented on Video: Even Reggie Is Crazy About Runbow:

He's not an idiot, but he's obviously very much focused on the P.R. and marketing side of things. Wasn't he the marketing head for Pizza Hut or something.

I believe Shu and Spencer actually do play games outside of their respective consoles, Reggie only plays a game when it's in the best interest of the company.

Necessity, at least the NeoGeo had Data East for third party support, the Wii U has perhaps the most pathetic third party support of any console that has remained afloat.

But, that's a huge testament to the quality of Nintendo's first party software that they haven't sunk the ship yet, and will not until after the NX.

Don't really get why this is a thing......speed running the game proper, awesome without a doubt......initiating glitches in order to see the ending in a minute or so, rather lame, and it doesn't show much talent outside of knowing how to break games, so who cares?

More like economics, like the fact that the Wii was doing well in both the west and Japan when Tri was released (c'mon now, both the PS3 and X360 had better controllers and online connectivity for such a title), and that the 3DS has been the most popular platform of its generation in Japan..........shhhh, don't tell anybody.

sub12 commented on Nintendo Highlights Increased US Hardware Sale...:

I'm right with you, even as a 10 year old, I could tell that despite loving my N64, the Playstation kids had a greater range of titles and genres. Gamecube, sold that for the orginal Xbox, never really regretted it.......Wii, some clasics, but largely ignored. Wii U? Great titles but it spent the majority of it's time collecting dust while I waited for the next Nintendo release, now sold.

Nintendo handhelds have all been ace, not taking away due to the fact that some titles are ports, the GBA has perhaps one of the best software libraries of any piece of gaming hardware, full stop.........the DS was good, but given that the 3DS refocused Nintendo efforts on non-gimmicks (IE, DS stylus or touch controls), it has been even better IMO.

sub12 commented on Nintendo Highlights Increased US Hardware Sale...:

I would rather see Nintendo focus it's assets on the portable side as well..........Nintendo handhelds, have never let me down...........Nintendo home consoles, 25% of the time it's gaming bliss, 75% of the time it's collecting dust.

Disasters for the 32X, Jaguar, Virtual Boy, etc.......dunno, you get the point, I'm not sure the Wii U is a failure either, but after the Wii era, and considering that console sales are still healthy for the competition, it is a huge disapointment.

sub12 commented on Microsoft Once Had Some Pretty Wild Ideas, Inc...:

Agree with you that Microsoft buying SEGA would have made sense after the Dreamcast OS support and the exclusivity deal......., I think half of my time on the orginal Xbox was playing SEGA exclusives (Shenmue 2, Jet Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Crazy Taxi 3, House of the Dead 3, etc. )

The reason why the N64 was so popular in North America was that it's games appealed to a wide demographic, for ever traditional Nintendo game you had a quality first person shooter or racer.

Ohh Nintendo, what happened to you....

sub12 commented on Nintendo Confirms Super Mario amiibo - Gold Ed...:

Amiibo is starting to grow very tiresome, just the approach to the whole concept. It's not like it's even proping up hardware or software just feels like a future intrusion into my gameplay experience.

sub12 commented on Satoru Iwata Highlights Growth of Wii U Sales ...:

The Wii U's mediocre, but against all odds exsistence is a great testament to Nintendo's biggest strength (quality first party software) and it's biggest weakness (being out of touch with third parties and the larger gaming community).

sub12 commented on Weirdness: There's an Awesome Super Mario Bros...:

Dying Light is that odd title that is getting a lot of bad press from the critics, but most players are finding it a flawed but enjoyable experince.

I pretty much agree, have yet to beat it, up its a low 8 for me.

sub12 commented on Talking Point: It's Time to Salute The Nintend...:

I like the 3DS more so than the DS (and the Wii) in a number of ways. Nintendo became a little off-putting in efforts to shove motion control and the dual screen / stylus down our throats last decade. With the 3DS, IMO, I appreciate the more traditional approach, and software has improved because of it.

I'm not so sure of the home-portable hybrid, it makes sense in theroy, but your doing something very un-Nintendo like......your throwing all of your eggs in one basket, if that platform sells poorly, you have no alternative. The handheld market has always been the savior for Nintendo during doom and gloom home console life cycles.

I think you will see a very high level of connectivity between the new handheld and the Wii U / next gen home console though.

sub12 commented on Satoru Iwata States That Around 5.7 Million am...:

The thing that really hurt 3DS momentum in 2014 was a lack of appealing software, especially compared to 2013. You can almost see that shift of assets to Wiiu development after that system tanked in early 2013.

I could see a new handheld in late 2016 though, for sure not out of the realm of possibility, by that time the new 3DS LL will be two years old in the Japanese market.

I still don't think Iwata has been aggressive enough to make a true difference, look at what Spencer has done as the head of the Xbox since late spring 2014, and Iwata's hollow statements from January. smh
