Re: Talking Point: How Do You Play NES Games These Days?

zombie-paper

Born in ‘87, I played a lot of NES up in my sisters’ room and apparently got pretty good by the age of 3. Nintendo has always been there for me as my mom got us Super Nintendo, gameboys for my little brother, N64 for Christmas one year, and then by college I sold our first Xbox to get a Nintendo DS lite and a Wii. I used to have a Trinitron with an RGB modded NES and SNES for a few years. But ended up selling all of it because of finances and we needed more space for my own kids. My fiancée and I love Tetris on NES and used to play a lot of the two player mod together. We miss that setup… but got around to getting a dock for the analogue pocket, so we can still play NES on the TV together. Long story short, we love the NES! And our kids think it’s pretty peculiar and fun too.

Re: Opinion: Donkey Kong Bananza's Delightful World Map Is Another Nintendo Banger

zombie-paper

A really well designed map is underrated in my book!! Feeling organized is really important, especially with such an exploratory treasure hunting emphasis in Donkey Kong Bananza. Its sub layer maps are definitely one of the reasons I don’t feel sick, claustrophobic, or overwhelmed, because I can zoom out and say, “hey, I’m right here, I can dig my way out this way.” Being able to find all the little maps to help with finding all bananium gems and fossils is the perfect incentive for completionists! It’s really such great design, and a major factor in pushing this game from a 9/10 to a 10/10 for me.

I’m also having mixed feelings on the new roster? The mainline characters are great as always, and I love all of their different outfits. It’ll take some time for some of these new characters to grow on me though?? I’m not sure?? but I guess the biggest complaint I have is how the character select screen is laid out? Yes you can sort to have all of your characters with their outfits in a column, but I’d much rather have the outfits on a second separate screen after you pick your initial character? It just seems a bit cluttered and messy for me as it is now, but I’m also getting used to it.

Re: Nintendo Reminds Mario Kart Players They Can Toggle Auto And Smart Controls

I’m curious to see if auto accel is more the norm now or not? There’s no way I could ever hold A for that long, let alone any other button. Maybe it’s just me? My kids argue with me that by always holding A, that they go faster? I try to tell them that I’ve played Mario Kart longer than their combined ages times two, but they have a hard time taking advice from me as it is hah.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (7th June)

Just got my system delivered today, gotta love seeing that FedEx truck out there early at 9 AM. All my kids with me cheering, it’s here, it’s here. Had a silent ASMR no words unboxing with the family. Everyone got to magnetically slap those big beautiful joycons on. Such satisfaction. Can’t wait to finish barbecuing and some multiplayer Mario Kart with everyone!!! Have a great weekend everybody!

Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch 2

zombie-paper

Very similar experience on my end overall from what I’ve read. Juggled target, Best Buy, and Walmart apps, also used a couple windows open on the MacBook. Target went live first, allowed to add to cart quickly, but then somehow forgot my preregistered payment info, and never allowed to complete the purchase once I updated it with endless error messages. It was also the first retailer I saw that said “out of stock.” Both Walmart and Best Buy had their digital wait lines… but while I waited there live chats from people on YouTube said they broke through directly on Walmart with no line at all for console + accessories. Went there immediately and have seemed to secure my preorder for base console as one order, and then MKW and switch pro 2 controller pretty easily. My estimated delivery from Walmart for MKW and controller are on June 5th. June 7th for console. We’ll see if they cancel any preorders? I hope not, but Walmart seemed to be the best experience for most people. Good luck everyone and don’t be too discouraged if it didn’t work out right away. There should be other opportunities soon I hope.

I was fortunate enough to experience this game at 8 years old when it first released. I didn’t even understand what an RPG was at the time or that a video game could tell a story, let alone impact me the way that it did. To say that it was profound is really an understatement for me, as it affected me and continues to resonate with me to this day during further playthroughs. It truly is timeless and one of my favorite things ever created. Never lose touch with your inner child everyone.

Re: Talking Point: The Super Mario Bros. Movie - What Are Your Favourite Moments?

zombie-paper

The best moments for me were more personal… when Mario and Luigi were initially separated in two different warp pipes… right before they told each other that as long as they were together that there wasn’t anything they couldn’t do… and once again when they are reunited… with Luigi overcoming his cowardice and using the manhole cover to block the flame attack from Bowser… joining together with the star power and defeating Bowser together… I lost my brother 5 years ago… he had a heart attack in his sleep at the age of only 28… We grew up together playing Nintendo… and seeing this bond play out on screen got me to the say the least.

Re: Feature: What's The Best Way To Play Super Mario Bros. In 2023?

zombie-paper

I have two different viewpoints on this…

First of all, any access/medium that someone has to enjoy the original classic, please do.

For myself personally, being an 80s baby that’s grown into a spoiled man child… original all the way w/ modern upgrades.

RGB modded top loader, HD Retrovision SNES component cables, w/ an everdrive on an Olympus OEV 203 (Sony Trinitron 20M2MDU) PVM, and a pair of Kanto YU6 bookshelf speakers…

I am aware it’s overkill.
But I can’t have it any other way now.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 14th)

First time post here!

Normally I focus all my attention on one to two games… usually an adventure or RPG and always a casual indie or puzzler on the side… but right now I am about 70% through Oracle of Seasons on game boy color… It’s a really hard Zelda in my opinion, but I am also terrible/not ashamed to use a guide.

Cu-On-Pa SFC for SNES on the side for short sessions. I really love everything about Cu-On-Pa SFC.

Also running through Kirby Star Allies with 5 year old son as we demolished Kirby and The Forgotten Land on release. He is a little completionist that one!

Have a fun and safe weekend everyone .
