Re: If the PS3 is an F1 Car, the Wii is a Go-Kart

zeeroid

@slapshot82

Absolutely agreed. As per my understanding, from the very beginning, Nintendo was the only one actually marking up the price of the Wii and making a profit on each console sold (whereas the 360 and PS3 were both sold at a loss, especially the PS3 -- this has been common practice with initial sales of most consoles). That's not to say I have any right to fault Nintendo for it; they are a business, after all, and they certainly got away with it. But at this stage of the race, I would really like to see the price come down. Obviously that won't happen until people stop buying it, but a guy can dream. And let's face it, before they reduce the price, they still have to release the black edition here in the West. O, pitiable Wii owners we are...

Re: Epic Games: Give Us HD Wii and We'll Talk

zeeroid

Well, by 2011 or 2012, just about everyone will have HD displays and a more powerful system from Nintendo will be a no-brainer. Of course, the question is whether they actually intend to produce a new system at all, or stick with the Wii... which isn't showing any signs of slowing down. Nevertheless, there is no doubt in my mind that Nintendo's next system will support HD and probably larger storage media as well (like blu-ray or a similar proprietary format from Nintendo themselves). By 2012, I'm guessing standard def will be a thing of the past.

Re: Shia LaBeouf Disses the Wii

zeeroid

el oh el.
Okay, honestly, who really cares about Shia's opinion? People give far too much gravity to everything celebrities say, think and do. This shouldn't logically have any more impact than if I were to say the same thing. Perhaps less.

And, @WoRMaSTeR: HEAR, HEAR!

Re: Miyamoto: You Need A Controller For True Immersion

zeeroid

While I agree with a lot of the sentiment about how Natal is being a bit overhyped, I should say that it does have a fair bit of additional potential as well. Without going into any great detail, I can see Natal working in conjunction with a standard controller to add depth and immersion to traditional games. For example, imagine Natal analyzing/interpreting one's facial expression and temperament, and having implications in-game, ie, in an RPG. I'm not saying that is necessarily a good idea, but if you think outside the box a bit, there are a whole realm of other ways to use the technology, as opposed to simple hand-waving. Just a thought.

Re: Review: Disgaea DS (DS)

zeeroid

I have this on the ps2 and i've clocked maybe 70 or 80 hours and have still barely progressed at all. I just get totally absorbed in the Item World, and upgrading my characters and everything else there is it -- hell, I even spend time grinding "for fun" (the battle system is just that awesome). Let's not forget the fun times you'll have building up massive color chains and then find legendary items in the process. There just isn't enough free time to go around to accomplish all there is do. I took a break from the game because it was sucking up all my spare time, but if I had it on the DS (the PSP version is probably superior, to be honest, but I only have a DS), it'd be a lot easier to get things done in my downtime. A fantastic game that's worth every penny, but be PREPARED; if you're the OCD type who wants to do everything you can, this will quickly turn into one of the most intimidating games you'll ever come across. The sheer breadth of it is exasperating.

Re: Suda51 Has Bonkers Ideas For Wii Vitality Sensor

zeeroid

@theguitarhero
I was thinking the same thing
Not just for horror games either though, it could be used in just about anything, and depending on how powerful the sensor is, your character's stamina, physique, and a wide variety of other factors could be affected as a direct repercussion of changes in the player's own "vitality". No doubt developers will come up with plenty of other zany but awesome ideas for how to implement the vitality sensor in their games.

Re: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

zeeroid

@Gabe
Well, we should assume that those "extra 1200 points" are something you would gift to this friend in the future anyway, so that shouldn't count as part of the cost. And, the classic controller, I'm assuming would come in handy in the future for a multitude of other games. So for the sake of argument, let's say that you're going to end up using the controller for 4 games, eventually. So that makes 800 points ($8) for SMRPG and an extra $5 for the controller. On this game, you're spending $13 +/- $2-3 depending on how much you use the classic controller. Definitely, definitely, definitely worth that much

Re: Capcom Confirms Megaman 9 WiiWare Exclusivity

zeeroid

@Thomas
on the other hand, the gamecube was commercial failure for third party titles, and especially among those mature-rated ones. capcom took a risk with re4 on the gc and although it sold relatively well (afaik), it was probably nowhere near what they were hoping for for a game of that calibre. the success of VC games on the wii, however, should be some indication that there is quite a strong market for games like these, and it should sell pretty damn well on the wii. with the sheer volume of wiis out there, it's probably not such a big gamble anymore for capcom to risk wii exclusivity.

having said that, if nintendo's not paying them some substantial exclusivity fees then they would be fools to not release it on the other consoles, where it'd definitely sell very well.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Gyrostarr

zeeroid

lol, I just went through all the comments above - took me like half an hour. Interesting stuff... I was pretty dead set on buying it before today, although I never buy anything without seeing at least one review from a reliable source (such as this one), so still waiting on that. But yeah, while a lot of people seem to find it loads of fun, there definitely seem to be some flaws from what I'm hearing, so that's kinda worrying. Still, while I'm a fan of twitch shooters, I'm not really a conoisseur, and it seems like a good bargain for 700 points. Just gonna wait it out for the final word. ; )

Hooray for 07/07 birthdays! I'm at 07/07/88 man, myself.

Re: Wave Race 64

I love how probably about 80% of N64's all-time must-haves were released either at launch or within the first 6 or so months of its life cycle.

Re: Opera Browser Available NOW

zeeroid

It's certainly an improvement, but it would have been nice if they had added tabbed browsing and other more advanced features. It's nice to have better functionality, but I'm still going to be using www.wiiminder.com

Re: Beyond Oasis

zeeroid

This is what I love about VC! Every single time I see a game I'd never heard of before get a 5 star review like this one I just jump with glee in anticipation to download it and play it for myself

Nintendo was a little short-sighted putting in such a small 512 MB flash drive into the Wii, since mine is nearly full, as I'm sure is the case with many other people as well

Re: Double Dungeons

zeeroid

Geez, when are we going to finally see a REAL turn-based RPG on the VC!? Yes, I'm looking at YOU, Square Enix. *malicious glare*

Re: Hardware Focus - Sega Megadrive / Genesis

zeeroid

If this NiGHTS sequel on the Wii thing ever pans out, then I think getting Saturn games on the VC would be a logical move. So hopefully we'll see some of those high quality saturn games on the Wii. After all, even if there isn't a particularly huge library for the Saturn to port over, it's not like it requires much extra funding to introduce a new console onto the VC. I'd say its probably inevitable that we'll be seeing Saturn games (I'm looking at you NiGHTS and Sonic CD!) pop up at some point.

Re: Top Five Most Wanted Virtual Console Games

zeeroid

OK, let's seeeee....

NES: Super Mario Bros. Lost Levels (ie Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2) This game was fantastic, providing some intense challenge compared to the original SMB, and letting you play as Luigi OR Mario, and even differentiating them in terms of gameplay. Anyone who has All-Stars for the SNES will know exactly what I mean.

SNES: Earthbound. WOW, this was an amaaaazing RPG that broke so many barriers and really pushed the genre with its creativity and exciting gameplay.

Genesis: Shining Force (series). Another great RPG, especially for its excellent multiplayer and fun combat.

TurboGrafx16: Bonk sequels. Don't know a whole lot about this console, but gotta love Bonk

N64: Perfect Dark would be awesome, even if they didn't Wii-ify the controls (which would be even more awesome), especially because its only flaw (imo) was the intense slowdown, which probably won't happen on the VC. Too bad Rare -- Microsoft owns the license, so it ain't happening.
